I did it! I got Navi’s dress finished… now you might not recognize it because I changed it again! Guess you could say, I did a “Take Three” on it… I didn’t ask your opinions this time… I just finished it the way I thought, and listed it… but that’s not to say I didn’t take to heart your suggestions! :o)
I changed the 3 red buttons down the front, to three little white pearls!
I laid Navi down and tried to figure out what to do next… this flat cut out shape of a bow was some inspiration…
Then I tried to do the thinner thigh highs, but these shoes were made to fit her foot… not her foot with socks on… so I thought I’d do something like leggings that stopped at her ankle, but it looked funny with her cut out shoes… SO… I decided to make some pantalettes and have them come down to her shoes… yep, worked for me!
I kept looking at her in that red wig with those braided knots on top and it was just so overpowering, even when I tucked those dangling tendrils around the knots.
So, I decided to try making her a wig out of some wispy pieces of Tibetan lamb mohair I had… I had an auburn color and wanted to give it a try. I’ve never made a wig by gluing the mohair wefts onto the head form. I wrapped Navi’s head in saran wrap, covered it with white glue, and then covered it with about 1/2″ strips of cheesecloth just on the part where the wig would be. I didn’t take but a few pictures as I was doing it… silly me again… I didn’t know how it was going to turn out so I just kept working instead of taking pictures as I went along. (I thought I better let you know the wig isn’t included!)
I had these pieces of lamb skin with the hair still attached. The hardest part was snipping off the curls and cutting them close to the skin part and holding them together long enough to get them stuck to the glue. I glued them in sections starting at the back of the neck and working my way up and around the sides. The top was a little tricky trying to decide if you wanted it to be a side part of just kind of wild looking. I tried to go for a side sweep, but it’s best with a bow there to hold it down in places…
I wanted to maybe try wetting my curls and see if they became a little more conformed to her head, but my glue was still drying, so I just went ahead with my pictures… I know it’s a bit wild, but I do like it better than the knotted top knot wig. I’ll try wetting it tomorrow and see what happens to the curls. It was my first try and I’d like to try another one now that I know what I’m doing a little bit.
Which brings me to the next thing I did… I made a sweet little bow out of the dress fabric and used the red sparkly ribbon for the band the bow was stitched to. It closes in the back with a snap.
Here are a few shots of the set… we had fun with LOTS of pictures and lots of posing. She looks a little washed out from the lights I had to use to capture the details. Remember she’s only 6″ tall… (or “small!”)
I hope you’ll look at these pictures and then you can go check out my listing on Ebay… You can find it by clicking the picture at the right side bar or your can see it by clicking HERE.
That’s one of the things I got done this weekend… let’s see what I can do this week! ;0)
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, I do like the changes! Getting rid of those red buttons and putting little pearls there was just the right touch. I didn’t like the white lace on the dress before, but I do now! I know someone suggested white buttons the other day, so I’m glad you did that.
And the pantalettes–just perfect with that dress! I think I like that better than I would have thigh-highs (even if they Had worked with the shoes!).
So, now Jeanne has added “wigmaker” to her other talents! What an interesting process you went thru, but I do love the new wig on Navi. It’s cute as it is–little girl who would rather not have her hair all combed and tidy!!–but let’s see if you can coax some curls into it, too!
Jeanne, I’m so glad you took my suggestion of pearl buttons instead of the red ones, and they make all the difference in the world! The pearl buttons dress it up, while the red ones were just for an ordinary dress! It all meshes together so well, and those little pantalettes are the perfect thing, to hide her joints, yet to see her shoes.
Her wig is cute, how you decided to tackle that, I have no idea, but there is another craft you are dabbling in now!
The pictures turned out so cute, my favorite is still the one of her reaching for the star.
Got it right again! The Pearl buttons tie in with the white lace. I like the pantaloons that cover the joints and help to make the shoes look In better proportion overall. Another winner!
Such a darling doll and outfit. The white pearls are far better and the pantalettes a brilliant solution! As for the wig, really, really cute on her. I also particularly love the picture of her reaching out, standing on the chair. I bet you were just delighted to pieces when you wrapped this all up and got it listed. Good luck, Jeanne. ❤️
Quite interesting to see how you made Navi’s wig. Glad she didn’t suffocate under that plastic. 🙂 I like the wild wig look. Very popular. The last pic is definitely my favorite.
My RRFF Phanie made it to NY. Hoping she takes a quick flight here. Maybe. 🙂
What an adorable save. Can’t believe I had doubts! The pearls, pantaloons, and darker hair color were perfect choices.. Before those cute little carrot buns were adding another color fighting for attention. Restored my faith LOL. I really like the untamed hair, after all this little miss is too busy to stand still for mommie to brush hair that just looks the same in 5 min. (I had one of those). Bravo Jeannie and Navi!
oops, hit the post button instead of letters.

Navi’s outfit turned out so cute. She looks so adorable reaching for the snowflake from her tiny little chair. I do like the changes you made and the pantalettes are perfect.
I was sorry to hear that George is still having problems with his knee replacement. Will he need to have more surgery? Has he been told why this is happening? Prayers for a solution for him.
I liked the red buttons but you are right — the white ones work better with the white lace. This new pattern, with the new sleeves, is going to be a nice one to have in your repertoire. I wanted tights, but having larger shoes would have made Navi’s proportions awkward. The pantalettes were the perfect solution. They make the whole outfit an outfit instead of a dress. I Iike the sparkly red ribbon. You have had very productive year during which your talents have grown.
If it’s getting a bit late for Christmas, it’s not yet late for a New Year’s outfit. How about a 20’s dress?
Dear Jeanne, Navi looks adorable. I bet she will not be happy to give up her dress. You may have to remind her that she will not want to pout so she can stay on Santa’s “nice” list (laugh).
I have been pouting since my washer broke down and I need a new printer. I have been doing it quietly though because I don’t want Santa to hear (chuckle).
Hahaha, love Navi’s outfit, the ‘pantalettes’ hit the spot. I need a wig like that! I always wanted to have red hair 🤣
