Wellie Wishers, Kendall, goes to the the Spa!

Well, not really the spa, but we did spend some time in my bathroom… does that count? I scrubbed her body until it was kind of shiny and after I could see her little body, cleanly, she was actually in very good condition. She has no marks on her body, that I could see, but that hair… I decided to wash it, but quickly realized it definitely was cut in the back… the pieces on the back of her head are only about 1/2″ long… I’m sure they didn’t come that way…

With her hair being cut, there wasn’t much to the washing and conditioning… it only took a few minutes and I was done. Her hair is very coarse and since it was cut, there wasn’t much to pull up in those fun little puffs! So I went to Plan B. I tried pulling it all back and put it in a bun to cover those cut locks of hair, but she didn’t look like a pretty little girl. So I went to Plan C. That was pulling it up in pig tails, but they were on the skimpy side and they just stuck straight up… no curl whatsoever. She looked ridiculous… so I proceeded to Plan D. I french braided the sides as best I could with the few strands I had to work with and when I got just past her ears, I put a rubber band on the rest. They were a bit on the skimpy side, but she looked the cutest this way… I tied ribbons in her hair and decided Plan D would work.

Then she had her teeth problem… the paint was scratched off them, so I painted them as best I could… they were teeny tiny!

This enlarged picture shows every piece of lint in every crack and crevice on her face, but she looks better with 2 white teeth.

This next picture leads me to our next topic… my new full length mirror!

Kristoffer had given me a gift card to Ross’ Dress for Less store for my birthday back in August and I still had some left on it. When I spotted this mirror, it made it very reasonable, so it came home with me… my first “haul” in my new Rav4 that Rebecca and Karn gave us! It’s wonderful and is 18″ x 72″, so even my hubby can see himself from head to toe in it… We spent quite a bit of time putting it up. It had these looped hangars on the sides but that made it tip forward, so my hubby came up with a new plan. He cut out the places in the back of the mirror where his PVC 3″ x 3/4″ blocks would fit. It took LOTS of measuring to get it just right, so the mirror would fit flush against the wall and not hang on any metal loops. He screwed the blocks to the wall in the exact spots where the mirror would slide over them. Then he screwed it from the top and on each side at the very bottom… Here are a few pictures…

…and here it is…the new mirror that greets you as you walk into the room! YAY!

I sanded the spackled nail holes on the wall, and got them touched up with paint. The room looks really nice and clean now…

Oh, I forgot, I was going to show you the new curtain rods with the curtains pulled back… they can even go back a little further…

We had some company stop by this afternoon, so I didn’t get my curtains in the sitting room hemmed, but I have to alter a man’s jacket for friend tomorrow, so maybe I can get both of those things finished…

I think the bedroom is almost finished, except for the decorating… I wish Cindy were here… I think I’ll have to put in a long distance call to her soon! :o)

Oh, and about the knobs on the little desk we got… They are just a black metal knob…and I’m not sure they are the originals, as they were painted green on the back section, but a kind of pinky “Calamine” lotion color on the front… I’m sure they could be stripped so I put them in the top drawer for another project some day when I’m bored! :o)

I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Kendall looks so much happier now! You did well with what hair she had, and she will make a cute model for you, for sure!!

Lucky you, to have a full-length mirror. I have one that’s Almost full length, but have a free-standing towel rack in front of it (in the bathroom) as that’s the only place it would work. I just move it when I need to see.

The cardiologist thinks part of Ron’s problems (not the shakiness–which I’m pretty sure is neurological–but the chest pressure when he lies down) is due to fluid retention, so she upped his diuretic. He is not thrilled! He is to weigh himself daily and keep track, to see, and come back in a couple of weeks. We were able to get the appt. the same day as the neurologist (they are in the same building) so that should work well.

Not ready to make an announcement yet; I had trouble with PayPal tonight and will have to call them in the morning. Hoping it works in the morning!!

One sad announcement is that our sewing expo is going to be virtual again this year. Most of us are really bummed about it; some had already made airline reservations, and many of us already have motel reservations! A few of the ladies are downright angry, especially since the Fair went on in that exact same location this summer, with more people, even, than we get at Expo! (Our expo is aptly called “the biggest sewing party in the nation”!!) As for me, I was SO looking forward to that little break….

Charlotte, Ron’s problem seems to be similar to what my grandmother had. She was on hydrodiuril (sp?) for years but still had to occasionally go into the hospital to have it drained. Aside from that not much slowed her down.

So sorry to hear about your Expo going virtual again. I think we’re all ready for things to return to normal. We did have our Chorale concert this year after a two-year hiatus (Fall 2019 to Fall 2021), but we were on pins and needles till the day arrived. We had no idea what kind of an audience we would have but we packed the house and it was pure joy to see everyone again.

That is wonderful, Barbara–so glad your chorale concert went well. I would have loved to have been there!

Ron sees the neurologist in two weeks; I imagine there will be a round of tests before they figure this thing out, but we are both getting tired of it!!

I am so sorry about the sewing expo, but, as someone who spent months in a hospice and months more in rehab, I have to say that staying safe is the most important thing. Making sacrifices now so that we have a future to enjoy is the best alternative. No super-spreader events for the sofa sisters, and no losses either.

So, what would be fun to do as we spend another Christmas trying to keep ourselves and our families safe? I understand that AG’s next historical doll will be a Black American Girl involved in the Harlem Renaissance. This is from Wikipedia:

“The Harlem Renaissance was an intellectual and cultural revival of African American music, dance, art, fashion, literature, theater and politics centered in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, spanning the 1920s and 1930s. At the time, it was known as the “New Negro Movement”, named after The New Negro, a 1925 anthology edited by Alain Locke. The movement also included the new African American cultural expressions across the urban areas in the Northeast and Midwest United States affected by a renewed militancy in the general struggle for civil rights, combined with the Great Migration of African American workers fleeing the racist conditions of the Jim Crow Deep South,[1] as Harlem was the final destination of the largest number of those who migrated north.

“Though it was centered in the Harlem neighborhood, many francophone black writers from African and Caribbean colonies who lived in Paris were also influenced by the movement,[2][3][4][5] which spanned from about 1918 until the mid-1930s.[6] Many of its ideas lived on much longer.”

American Girl apparently scrapped an earlier idea — a 20s doll interested in archaeology (2022 will be the 100th anniversary of Howard Carter’s discovery of King Tut’s tomb) — and that upset some AG fans, who discovered that the blonde ballerina doll sold recently in Costco, I think, was the planned archaeologist doll, and some people are buying the ballerina and improvising archaeologist wardrobes. Riding pants, boots, Kira’s meet jacket, Nikki’s riding hat, Kit’s party dress, and so on can be double purposed to create a 1920’s girl archaeologist’s wardrobe.

Of course, any AG can become your own archaeologist — I’m using Jess, someone else is using Blair.

And how does this tie into this blog? With an official 20’s doll and an improvised one, it’s time for some 20’s clothes, and who but Jeanne can make the prettiest ones and who else has a collection of dolls of various colors to show them off?

I’ve gotten hooked on the books by Elizabeth Peters where Amelia Peabody’s husband Emerson is an archeologist and they go from England to Egypt during the excavation season each year. While there they solve some interesting mysteries. They are great books and I’ve nearly finished the series. Unfortunately Elizabeth Peters passed away a few years ago so there will be no more books. I also bought a series of books set in Egypt for my grandson where a brother and sister along with their friends solve mysteries. I read all of them and they are great. He’s working on them now. So I liked the idea of a doll who was interested in archeology. I guess not many others did.

Good job on Kendall’s teeth. I was hoping you would paint them. I can see some wig glue along the front hairline, so I presume that it is a glued on wig. Perhaps, you can remove the wig and get her another one although the hair does look much better. Just a thought.

Sorry Charlotte’s Expo is off, however, at least it will be virtual and not entirely cancelled.

Beautiful sunrise this morning, but so sorry to hear of all of the flooding in the northwest. 🙁

Headed to Costco this morning to fill up (cheapest gas anywhere) so we’ll be ready to travel to grands again next week. We just might have to pick up a pumpkin pie. We’ll see. 🙂

I knew I forgot something. I think you definitely need a luggage rack for the room. One that you can pull out of the closet and put up when guests are expected. We have one, and it is so helpful. They aren’t very expensive and you might even find one on Craigs List or Nextdoor or the thrift store. 🙂

Kendall is such a happy looking dolly. Your hairstyle is just what she needed. Love the braids and it isn’t bad from the backâ˜ș She will fit right in with the information Marilyn shared too. Maybe sometime she could get a few strands of hair in front to be tiny curls right at the hairline like lucky girls with curly hair have?
The mirror is a great addition
George’s mounting idea was perfect.
So sorry your Sewing gathering was cancelled Charlotte. I know it is one of your favorite things to do 🙁Are any of the ladies local? Could you have your own little gathering?
We had 2 days of 70 degree weather so got all the roses cut down..they grew so tall this year some were caught up in the eves of the roof! They almost filled my hubby’s little pick up. I hope not to loose any this winter. My favorite Double Delight didn’t make it and had a hard time finding another
and the one we did find is so spindly. đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«
    Enjoy your day everyone😍

Pretty amazing job on Kendall’s hair but it does look like a re-wig is in order for this one, especially if she is to be a model. She is an adorable doll. You did a great job on her teeth. Another layer of expertise for Jeanne Marie – dentist specializing in tooth whitening.

I like your mirror. I have a full-length mirror in my bedroom and can’t imagine being without it. Your guest room is coming along but it does need some color. But then I’m a lover of color. Lots of color.

House of horrors! David told me that his appointment with his ortho doctor tomorrow is at 8:15 a.m. I’m usually barely up at that time. It’s no problem for him he’s a morning person. He told me to think positively. When I got home I’d have the whole day ahead of me instead of having a chunk taken out in the middle of the day. He had a point but I’m a night owl and turning in early usually means I lay there wide awake for a good while. If I have to get up early I usually end up taking a nap in the afternoon. I’ve even nodded off at my computer trying to not take a nap.

    1. Had to laugh at your expression “ house of horrors!”
I haven’t heard that expression for awhile. It’s too funny! But I get it when you’re not a morning person!

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Barbara, you have my sympathy! I’m not a morning person, either. I always tell people, I’m not responsible for anything I may say or do before 10a.m.!! LOL (When I was still single, my mom called one morning. Apparently I dreamed I had talked about her–and had picked up the phone and just put it back down, then she couldn’t reach me again for a couple of hours! Finally–after I was actually up–she called and it did go thru. She said, “the strangest thing happened this morning…I called you and someone picked up the phone but no one was there”. I said “I talked to you!” and she said, “no, you didn’t! And then I couldn’t reach you for a long time!” I told her, well, she should have Known not to call me that early!! LOL)

Hope all goes well at David’s appt.!

Oh, my. Well, first, Kendall was not only at the spa but at the dentist’s office as well. Awesome! Congratulations on the transformation, Jeanne, and glad you got the mirror you so hoped for. I would have it put on the back of the bedroom door to be out of the way and thus would not need such a creative solution for hanging. But you prevailed and you have your mirror, so that is mighty fine. Congratulations again! 👏

Charlotte, wishing Ron all the best. You too. As for the exposition, cancellation most likely would not have happened if this epidemic hadn’t been politicized and all sorts of conspiracy theories been running rampant. The chamber music society of which I am president is to hold our very first live concert on the 28th. We bounced all sorts of ideas around. Since our last live concert 1.5 years ago, we have had our concerts professionally videotaped and did very well. We decided to go ahead live, but another board member and I will be at the door checking vaccination certificates with photo id’s and everyone will be required to wear their masks throughout the entire time they are in the building. Dale and I will be ruthless about this. We are also live-streaming since we don’t expect too many to turn out. We’re a pretty senior group. But going to “packed” or “near packed”events is not on my list of things to do for quite awhile especially with numbers going up and going back indoors. We are all tired of it, but I still maintain “the greater good” standard and always will. I grant it’s plain depressing and maddening. Big, fat, ugh. I also admit to being a Gloomy Gertie.

Well, Joy mentioned a pumpkin pie. Guess I will make one now. That may lift some gloom.
Charlotte, looking forward to the announcement! 😊

  7. Charlotte, glad you and Ron’s doctor are watching over him. Hopefully soon he’ll be feeling better.
Also, wonder what your news will be!

Jeanne, your little Kendall looks so much better. She now has the “Jeanne touch”. She’ll be a great little model. The hair is one of the most important things to me in a doll. Maybe you’ll come across another wig for her someday. Can’t have cut hair. Oh no!

And your mirror in the bedroom looks very nice. The room will really look complete as you find interesting things to put in it. The room looks inviting to begin with. Great job.
I wasn’t sure if this was your room or the guest room. Btw, loved that sweet little green end table of sorts.
    Really a great find.
Is Kendall getting a new dress or someone else?? That’s the question! 😉

  8. Since I don’t think I’ve ever seen Kendall up close, I’m not positive, but I’m guessing her hair in the back was NOT cut, and that is how her original hair was – that’s the case with Willa’s hair at least – it has short hair in the very back with longer hair tied into pigtails. I bought her for my granddaughter, and that part of her kind of disappointed me. For the price, I thought she could have had a nicer wig.
