It was one of those weekends…you know, where you have plans but too many other things get moved up into top priority and they never get accomplished… We did get the bed for the new guest room put together… (the mattress and box spring are coming Friday.)
I haven’t touched the stacks of books since I last looked through them… I still have several stacks that need to be thinned out…
My hubby is wanting to put the small 19 x 27 inch attic window in tomorrow and we decided to try and put some grills in it. (It didn’t come with any grills.) Well, there IS a reason my hubby saves things that most people would throw out… he seems to save the stuff that WE DO USE eventually. He remembered a bathroom window he had stored down in the basement. Several years ago, one night when it was very cold, I heard a big crash in the bathroom that sounded like the window had shattered and fallen into the shower. It turned out only to be a crack from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, but it made the window useless because the crack separated. He brought that window up from the basement and proceeded to take the grills out of it and we were like two little kids with a set of vintage Erector sticks trying to form them into a grill so we could use them in this new tiny window. They were aluminum and very easily bent (not a good thing) but we carefully measured and fashioned them in the middle to make a cross and now look at this… :o)
We pushed the pieces in and lined them up with the marks we had made on the window and used some glue to hold them in place. YAY!
It’s going to go here…about 14 feet high, so no one will ever notice those aren’t the original grills. :o)
We had it boarded up because right before they started roofing our house, it broke and water was blowing in, so we boarded it up until we got a window.
You want to know my first suggestion for grills? I thought of using white tape, but he told me it gets WAY TOO HOT up there, and he’s right… and the tape would just slide like it was melting off the windows. So he won out this time! :o)
Since we are going to put down new flooring in the sitting room, my hubby agreed that we should probably paint the walls. Another YAY! There are no baseboards down and no trim around any of the doors… and the floor is still plywood. BOO!
As far as we know there won’t have to be any remodeling in this room, but he has already started changing out the outlets and switches to white instead of the black and almond. The room was one of the first we painted back in 2004, when we bought our house and it really needs a new color. Right now it’s called Verde Antique, but it’s basically a pretty bright mint green. Since I got to pick the kitchen, and bedroom colors, I told him he could pick the color for the sitting room. He said he thinks he wants a green color, but not so bright… we’ll see…
I went to Lowe’s and Sherwin Williams to gather some paint chips and the guy at SW let me bring home one of their color Swatch booklets. There is every color they make in there… I’ve been looking and comparing and holding up things to it… I do have paint chips everywhere…trying to see the various colors.
We had a church picnic after church today and found out from DV that I needed to take my Etsy shop link off of my blog website… so you won’t see it there right now… Things still aren’t solved and I haven’t heard from the lady who bought the last slip… but I’m sure I will soon… I can’t do anything until she emails me (probably mad!!!) and then I can tell her I was hacked and could she please send me her name and address and I’ll get it out to her right away… UGH!
We chatted with Rebecca and Karn (it was her birthday) for almost 2 hours. They are still on their honeymoon trip but they called us! :o) It is beautiful in West Virginia! The trees are SO pretty!
Then I was working on her birthday box (yep, I’m late at getting it to her, but she said to wait because they have been gone.)
So that brings me to the Ruby Red Fashion Friends girls… this is how far I got before I had to help my hubby with the window… I’m getting closer… but thought I’d show you I wasn’t just lounging around eating Bon Bon’s this weekend… I was pretty busy…
I know I didn’t move the girls any, just a few shots of what I had set up… I am determined to get these dresses soon! I mean it! Let’s see what tomorrow holds!
Thanks everyone… for still hanging around when my life gets so busy…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Well, Jeanne, even though you didn’t get the girls’ dresses listed yet, you certainly did get a lot of other things done!! It’s good you got the bed set up already, so all they have to do is just bring in the mattress and spring, and plop them down!! And what a neat “fix” on that window! My husband used to save things from his job (he repaired natural gas appliances), particularly if it was a part that would work on one of Our appliances, or perhaps things like a perfectly good thermostat that was being replaced by a high-tech one. Instead of pitching it, he would hang onto it, and he was able to replace thermostats for several elderly and/or needy customers at virtually no cost that way. They were most grateful! And…those parts he salvaged? Well, it’s why our 53-year-old dryer is still running! I think next time it “dies”, though, we really will have to replace it, as Ron is getting less and less able to do things like that any more.
What fun to have All. Those. Paint chips.!! Don’t your eyes kind of want to boggle after a while, though?! Even with just a few chips, when we were painting our exterior last year, they all kind of started looking alike after a while!
And I have to comment…I know gray is very popular right now, and I can admire it in someone else’s house, but it is one color I would Never use in/on my house. In our area, the skies are gray 9 months of the year (sometimes more), and, sorry folks, I need COLOR!!! So, as long as I have any say in it, there will never be a gray (or beige/tan/brown) surface in or on this house! There’s enough brown already that came with the house. Poor Ron! We drive by a tan or beige or gray house and he says how nice it looks, and, um, NO!! LOL
Hi, Charlotte. I forgot to mention the other day how wonderful it was that your dad could marry you. What a sweet blessing for all of you.
No problem here with the gray/beige/tan/brown. We get almost too much sun. I’d be glad to send you some if I could. But I have to admit I love color too as the inside of my house will attest to.
Such is life, Jeanne! You are doing exactly what you should be doing! Your wedding vows never said that a blog, Etsy shop, or anything like that should be your priority! Your husband and the life you make together is way more important, so don’t feel you have to apologize to us for anything!
Your window will look really good! George knows what he is doing, and you can be sure it will work out just fine. The green colors for the sitting room are SO pretty! My favorite color! Can’t wait to see what you pick out!
Oh, those poses of the girls by the Christmas tree are just what I had in mind! Perfect! Then you can showcase each dress when you get them ready for Ebay.
I’m so hapy to hear that Rebecca and Karn are enjoying their honeymoon doing the things they oe the best! West Virginia is a beautiufl state, especially now with the fall colors in play. That’s my kind of honeymoon!
Love your reply! That says it just right!
What a busy weekend, and more busy days to come while you work on the sitting room. I love seeing you two working together.
I really like that new bed — it will make the whole room look special. And while I’m on the subject of things I like, the picture of Rebecca the other day was lovely. It looks like a great trip at a perfect time.
The RRFFs look very happy with their tree, presents, and pretty dresses. I’m sure they don’t mind waiting while they wear their new clothes. They know they don’t get to keep them, but every day there’s nothing on Ebay is another day to be dressed up and looking like Christmas. Who could object to that?
Looks like you have not been slacking around. So much to do and so little time eh? I am glad you will be changing the sitting room color. It seemed a little dark in there. Does this room flow into another? If so, they should probably be similar shades in my humble opinion. Love those strip paint store color books. They used to be free, but around here now, you have to put down a deposit for one. How times have changed.
Had a fun time with your grills. At first read, I couldn’t figure out why you were putting a bbq grill on a window. Funny, regional differences. I’ve heard them called grids or a gridded window or even grilles. Here, most anything about a grill is outdoor cooking. 🙂 Anyway, your now gridded/grilled window will be a great attractive feature that matches the lower windows. Good job.
A two hour phone call from a newly wed couple? Wow, you are lucky. A one line email is a treat around here from a grown daughter. I was just looking yesterday at a Southern Living Magazine that featured W.Virginia and showed a bunch of cute towns and the great parks there. Looks like a very inviting area.
Love the girls with the tree photos. Showcases their beautiful outfits and brings on the holiday season. They really photo well. 🙂
We had some real rain yesterday for a short time. So refreshing and the trees loved it. 🙂
I really love the bed. Can’t wait to see everything set up and decorated. How fortunate you can put it together with little money involved.
Joy’s comment on the window grills/grilles was funny. Took me a minute to figure out what was going on. I live in Texas so, like Joy, grills make me think of yummy BBQ. You and George did a great job on the window and it will be perfect when put in place.
The photos of the RRFF girls look like they should be on Christmas cards. They do photograph so well and their dresses and packages are lovely. The windows look like they have frost on them. Too perfect!
My husband also is a pack rat but it has benefitted us and others on many occasions. If someone needs something and he has it he’ll usually give it to them for free. And he’s good at using what he has to create what he needs at very little cost.
I’m asking my sofa sisters for prayers for my 11 year old grandson, Skyy. I always check my e-mail before going to bed and last night I saw a Facebook post from Dionne. They usually contain special pictures of the grandkids, especially the little one because he’s at the age (9 mos.) where he’s acquiring some new skill daily so I hurried to open it. Usually that’s a fun thing to see before I retire. Imagine my shock when what I saw was the bloody face of my grandson. At the time Dionne sent the pictures he was in the emergency room at the children’s hospital.
It was such a beautiful day yesterday Dionne took the kids to the park to play. Often in our part of Texas you can’t take the kids to a park in the summer because it’s too hot for them but the day was perfect. Skyy was walking on rocks and he slipped and came down on his face on the rocks. The damage could have been far worse than it was and I’ve been thanking God profusely for His looking out for Skyy. Skyy did break his nose and has a hairline fracture on his cheekbone. They just glued the cut alongside his nose and he had a slight concussion. Thankfully it did not involve his teeth or his eyes, although he will have black eyes just from the impact. Needless to say he is not feeling great today.
I have no clue why they have something like those rocks at a children’s park in the first place. It’s a very bad idea. Sometimes planners get too involved with landscaping aesthetics and don’t think at all about who will be the primary user of the space.
Another beautiful day here. Our high yesterday was about 74 and will be about the same today. Hopefully days like this will keep coming. It actually does feel like early Fall, which is the best we can hope for here. And West Virginia is going to be my go-to place for a Fall excursion next year. By that time my sister will be in her new house and David’s knees will be fixed and he’ll be ready to travel again. I looked up Fall in West Virginia on the internet and it is absolutely beautiful. They have mostly the hard woods there and they are the best for color.
Dear Barbara,
I’ll be keeping Skyy in prayer. Poor boy, what a terrible thing to happen. The children’s parks her have that thick foam like stuff under the playground. i think it’s the same as on the running track at the school. Rocks are a crazy idea. I hope he can find distracting things to do.
The Christmas scene will be very cute, Jeanne. Can’t wait to see. Life is busy her as well. So very much to do outside before snow flies.
What you described is what is under the playground equipment here but Skyy and Jaiden were playing outside of that area. I’ve never been to that park so I don’t know what it looks like so I’m not sure where the rocks are but they still don’t seem like a good idea.. Too tempting for kids to climb on.
So sorry to hear about Skyy’s accident. Hope he heals quickly. I’m sure his classmates will rally with him in sympathy. Sad this had to happen.
I’m still shuddering. Keep thinking about what could have happened I guess.
I’m with you on that. So scary.
Dear Barbara, I am sending special prayers for your grandson. I am hoping that his recovery will be speedy.
Hello, Barbara,
Of course Skyy has our prayers. We hate seeing our young people get hurt. May his recovery be speedy and complete.
Hugs,
Sally
How sorry the baby had an accident. Hopefully he got the appropriate medical attention. Children sometimes have to limit their ideas for the sake of their safety. Everything will end well.
Oh, dear Barbara, I’m so sorry!! Of course I have already started praying for Skyy, and his family, too!! It’s hard to keep a toddler down who wants to be on the move all the time. So praying for quick and complete healing for him, and patience for them all!
Barbara…Oh my …poor little guy ! I’m sure his parents were scared too. Luckily little ones heal quickly and well but still a worry!
Jeanne that photo by the Christmas tree is getting me in the Christmas mood! Are you going to have a pic of all 3 in with each Auction?
Your guest room will be lovely… I remember the bedspread that you already have☺️ I have a story to make George glad he has a stash of parts and pieces. Our stove light burned out so hubby removed the glass cover and wire that holds it on. The wire dropped… no problem right? He felt around for it…I helped take the drawer out…we searched and searched…several flash lights…took the base of the oven out…..No Wire! So he ordered one. Care to guess what it cost when he went to pick it up? $38.00 !! Good grief!
Have a good week Sofa Sisters
Dear Jeanne, the Sew-premes look adorable. I imagine they will break out singing the new song, “Stop, in the name of Christmas!” (chuckle)
How wonderful that you got to chat with the newlyweds! Did Reuben get to “woof” at them? He looks like he is still supervising your remodeling efforts (laugh).
I am sure that the guest room will be completed shortly and look spectacular.
I would have voted for tape on the window also.
How clever Dorothy. Sew-premes. I love it!
Dear Barbara, thanks! I grew up on Motown!
