What’s better than seeing a half cleaned Sewing Room?

I’ll tell you in a minute…but first… I must enable some of my fellow doll lovers…

DID YOU KNOW TARGET HAS THE OUR GENERATION DOLLS FOR 10% OFF RIGHT NOW.. I THINK UNTIL OCTOBER 2ND! Just thought I’d mention it as I was over at Target today returning something and had to take another look at all their girls…

Oh and one more thing… as we were loading all of Rebecca’s stuff into the U-Haul, and had the ramp extended over to our front steps, they broke… and so now we have this…

It’s a pretty ugly hole and my hubby is going to fill it in with concrete tomorrow and hopefully get it finished…

I bet some of you were thinking, when I said, What’s better than a half cleaned Sewing Room?, that a wholly cleaned sewing room was better!
Well, I’m sorry to tell you but that’s not what happened… You see, a friend asked me to go antique shopping with her out of town and we did… so that kind of cut into my cleaning… BUT I will get my sewing room back in order…I’ve already done a lot… so just hang on…

So, what’s better than a half cleaned sewing room? A trip with ME to some antique shops. I took LOTS of pictures so you have lots to look at and enlarge them if you like… (just not when you are making a comment though… it’s still making your comments disappear when you do…) I hope you find something interesting along the way… Let’s get started.

Lots to look at, isn’t there?

Have you ever seen so many cast iron skillets and pans?

I picked up these plastic egg cartons, but the lid just sat on top and didn’t snap on… :o(

Leann found a few things but I didn’t buy anything this time. We sure had a nice time though. Afterwards, we went to a place and I had a strawberry lemonade and Leann had a lavender lemonade. Yummy!

Well, I guess that sewing room is calling my name! I hope my hubby doesn’t put me on brick duty! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Ooh, thanks for the tip about the sale at Target! I wonder if they’ve gotten any more dolls in since I last looked?! I could check the Everett store, too…

Oh, gosh, just what you need…a hole outside your front door! Hopefully no one is trying to go in that way–and you have a sign on the inside of the door, warning people from going OUT that way!! I’m sure George (and you?!) will have it fixed soon, though!

What a great antique mall! So much to look at!! Kind of reminds me of some of the big antique malls we have up in Snohomish (“sno-HOE-mish). They’ve used some of the original buildings on First St., ones that were, perhaps, dime stores, dry goods, etc., and transformed them into antique malls.

There is sure a lot to look at in your pictures! I think I’ll take another peek!! (And, no, I’ve never seen so many cast iron pans in one place before!! I have one–a 6” frying pan–which I use all the time; the bigger ones would just be too heavy for me!)

Project front step. I my opinion, it looks like the bricks have heaved here and there and should be relayed with something that doesn’t trap water underneath. If you haven’t seen it, there is a This Old House episode that redoes a pathway/step. There is a special mix that goes underneath and then brick dust I think they call it is swept between the cracks. Our front patio, of which I laid the bricks, has the same problem as yours in a few places. Fixing it has been on my list for quite awhile. As to the step, I think they used a solid piece of stone/rock, but you’d need a backhoe to set it in place. Sounds like you are going to do something a bit easier. For our bricks, I used a mix of concrete and sand to sweep between the cracks. Held up for a number of years, but now needs to be redone. Have fun!! 🙂 Oh, another thought after looking at the step site, why not build a larger level with the door bottom entry platform and then move the steps further out. That way, you’d have a nice entry and could have some pots or a seasonal display there. I think that would look lovely.
On to the antiques show. Thanks for sharing the photos as I always enjoy seeing them. The only thing that was of interest to me were the snowshoes hanging on the wall. They would go along with the other pair I have. Different shape though. And I spotted a great 50’s floor lamp too. 🙂 I also noticed how nice the displayed items looked with a white background as compared to the usual brown shelves. Really made the items pop. 🙂
Thanks for sharing and can’t wait to see the front step fix.

Glad you took a bit of time for yourself to look at some antiques. Stores like that are getting fewer and fewer🙁 and spending time with a friend is the best😉All the cast iron pans made an amazing display! I have one but don’t use it too often.
Looks like the Jeanne and George Construction Company will be at it again! The new steps will be sturdy. A bigger area to step out on would be nice.
My boring Monday is going to be laundry and switching out summer for fall clothes.
    Have a good week everyone😍

Dear Jeanne, thanks for taking us along on your antiquing adventure. I loved seeing the dolls. You are making me want to go to a wonderful antique mall I have not visited in over a year. I will have to grab a friend and go.

Your sewing room will get put together by and by. It will be just lovely when it is finished.

Yesterday I attended a MADC Fall Friendship Luncheon in Virginia. It was so much fun. I missed it the last two years so it was great to get back. My dolly travel mates won a gazillion Helper(Raffle) dolls. I managed to win one (which never happens). There is another one coming up next month that I will attend.

Also coming up in November is the Lancaster Doll Show. That’s always a fun outing.

I always loved visiting Lancaster. The shopping and the food is enough incentive but going there for a doll show would be the ultimate enjoyment. Since I know I won’t be getting up there in November, pictures please.

  5. Hope you get your steps fixed quickly.

Oh, I love seeing antique shops. Sadly, we’ve lost two of our four during the pandemic. I’ll comment on my highlights in no particular order. Wow, that Victorian dresser is amazing. My great aunt had one and I loved the carved mirror, the marble sides, and the candle holders. We do have the marble topped chest of drawers that was my great grandmother’s.
Love the cast iron display and the Bible verse above. I cook nearly daily in cast iron, have the Wagner skillet that was my grandmother’s and also a cute cornbread pan that makes ears of corn.
Those mushroom canisters bring back memories. My grandmother had a set. The largest always had homemade cookies just like her pink depression glass one. I luckily have the depression glass.

I second Joy’s comments about replacing the steps and the walk. Good opportunity to get that job done.

The antique store looks like someone took about 50 houses in the Midwest and shook everything out after the people my age passed away. My house, though, is full of things from travels after living in various places. The oldest thing is probably that chair in the bedroom which I reupholstered in Bargello needlepoint, bought in an antique shop in Houston in 1983 or so. Oh, and a copper tea urn from England. The last thing was the little desk that shows up in the picture of one of the mannequins. After buying that about 20 years ago, I haven’t set foot in an antique store because my house will surely sink if I buy anything else. I did like seeing things that reminded me of my grandmothers. I wonder what have other followers found in antique stores. Might be a good question next time you need to ask one.

And you thought your to-do list was coming to an end. Our property is one endless to-do list so I can’t imagine there being an end as long as we live here.

What wonderful antique shops. That would sure make a fun day. So much to see. It looks like it would take more than one day to see everything.

I’ve had my “want” sewing put on hold for a couple days while I do some “need” sewing. Dionne and Sean bought some curtains for their family room. Unfortunately the ones she liked only came in 84″ and they needed 63″. When we met for lunch yesterday they nicely asked if I could shorten them. I’m not fond at all of doing that kind of sewing/altering, especially since there is often no quality control at the factory and I’ll have make sure all the panels are exactly the same length. I can’t assume that if I cut off a certain amount of inches on one panel that will be the same for the others. But they did ask nicely.

Weather here is nice, but it is starting to warm up again. But it is that time of year. Kathie mentioned switching out her summer clothes for fall. I’m still about two months out from having to do that.

Barbara, you’ll laugh, but I probably would have told them to raise the curtain rods so I wouldn’t have to mess with the hems. 🙂 I do not like doing hems either.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, I don’t think that’s funny at all. I would have suggested duck tape or safety pins. That is why I am a non-sewer (smile).

  7. Linda in St. Louis

Oh no, Jeanne, another “project” just when you thought things were finished for the time! I think making a bigger platform to sort of have a little porch would be nice! And like someone said above, you could put some flowers in pots there for decoration. While brick is so good looking, it does have it’s problems. We had a brick patio before getting ours redone, and had to redo it over and over until we just decided to have the whole thing paved over. No problems any more.

Wow, those antique shops are stuffed! We have a little town here that is full of antique shops and eateries, so a friend and I go a couple time a year to just look! Neither of us is really interested in buying, since at our age, what do we need? But the fun part is just going through and seeing all the things that bring back memories of what our parents and grandparents had. It’s like a step back in time.

I spy a T. Cohn dollhouse that I see on Ebay all the time! I wonder what the price is. Nice ones cost a pretty penny, but the shipping is what makes it go way higher than I would want to pay. I found my dollhouse on EBay, and it was in a little town in Illinois just north of Springfield, so we made a day of it and drive up to get it. Free shipping!

So, I just had to go back through all of the photos to find that dollhouse. I too have seen it on Ebay. But, too pricy for me. Thanks for pointing it out. 🙂
