The newlyweds are safe at home in Pennsylvania…

Rebecca and Karn made it safely home to PA and said everything in the truck was strapped in place just like it was when they took off early Thursday morning. YAY! My hubby still has his “packing touch!” I can’t tell you how many times he has helped people move…near AND far! No one breathed a bigger sigh of relief than he did when he heard nothing broke loose!

I kept myself busy with little things today… we moved the furniture from up in the attic that we plan to use in the guest room, down stairs but didn’t set anything up yet. We’ll have to use that room for moving the big furniture in the sitting room into when we start doing the floors. I think my hubby is wanting to start fairly soon… We can just take our time because (as far as I know we have no deadlines this time!)

See that “Mission” style bed? We were coming home from town one day and as we drove down this street, we saw someone putting this bed and frame out by the road… and it had a FREE sign taped to it. We stopped and I happened to know the guy putting it out… We made sure it was FREE and he said it was… so we began trying to figure how to get it in our car… we wiggled and tied down pieces and after a little while drove off with our new treasure… We couldn’t believe it! Fortunately we weren’t too far from home…

AND… when George’s niece came here for the wedding a few weeks ago, we found out she has an almost brand new queen mattress with pillow topper and box spring that she’s going to give us! She’s bringing it in October! Wow! What a great deal… we had just looked at mattresses the week before the wedding…

I rearranged a few kitchen cabinets that were left empty when Rebecca took her stuff out.

I got my bed made back up the way I had before Rebecca and Karn got here… I had it switched out with Rebecca’s mattress and her comforter, so she never actually got to see how it all looked… except in my pictures. :o( I slept in a twin bed, in her room, just on the floor. It was fine… The sun was shining in so brightly and I couldn’t resist taking a few more pictures of the room… and you can see the closet doors better…

I still have things I’m working on and wanting to change out, but for now, I’m living in there and loving how clean and bright it is! And modern and homey and pretty and romantic all wrapped up in one! A HUGE thank you to my sister, Cindy, for helping me figure out what I wanted! (Because I didn’t know!) Crazy, right???

I never made it into my sewing room today, or yesterday or the day before for that matter. I will soon… I still have lots of piles that I have to take care of. Rebecca didn’t take “everything” back with her… they DO have a house, that is Karn’s and his mom lives there too… so she didn’t need all the stuff she had collected for herself when she got married… So it will stay here a while longer…

I found Reuben back by Rebecca’s room this morning…

…and a few minutes ago I found him in the love seat we moved in there temporarily while we do the floors…

I can’t remember if I shared the link to the pictures of their wedding… it seems I told someone and I do remember seeing a few ladies comments on their pictures, but if you haven’t seen the sneak preview pictures from their photographer, you can see 14 of them on Kalyn’s Facebook page. Rebecca and Karn’s pictures are the second ones down on the right side of the page…

Well, that’s going to be it from me today… not terribly exciting, but I’m still getting things OUTSIDE my sewing room in order, so I can get INSIDE my sewing room with ease and begin sewing again…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Jeanne, I know you are very thankful the kids got home safely and without incident!! I’m sure many of us were praying for safe travels for them.

Looks like you already have a little start on decorating your new guest room! That bed is lovely!! What a terrific find! And then George’s niece giving you the mattress and box spring–talk about effortless!! You didn’t even have to shop!

It’s so nice to see your bedroom complete with the freshly painted closet doors! It looks so pretty in there!!

Poor little Reuben, he looks a little lost! Wondering not only where Rebecca is but where all that stuff is that was in her room! Extra pets and loves for him this week, for sure!

Thanks for the link to the pictures of the wedding. They got some beautiful shots there, and Rebecca and Karn look so happy!! I see a few of the sofa sisters had added congratulatory notes, and I did, too.

Another update: I have taken pictures of all the stuff that I received in the swap, but I still have to download them to the computer, and that’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Ron wasn’t feeling all that wonderful this afternoon, which took some time away from what I was doing. He did start feeling a bit better, and even ran a quick errand, though, and seems to be okay tonight.

About what I received, let me just say this: WOW! 😊

Jeanne, what a great find in the bed frame and then to top it off, a free mattress! And it was so effortless! You must have been born under a fantastic star for all that to happen! Love it!

So nice to see that Karn and Rebecca made it back and everything stayed in place. Now for the unloading and figuring out where everything goes. I have no idea how, when I went to my FB page, their picture was the first thing on it! So naturally, I just had to comment and say Congratulations! Beautiful pictures of a couple so much in love! Oh, to be young again!

Poor little Reuben! He certainly looks lost! I guess you will have to give him extra attention, treats and a lot of love!

I forgot to mention that your bedroom looks so nice, cozy and comfy, AND stylish too! Could be in a decorating magazine, with “before and after” pictures!

Can’t wait to see the WOW, Charlotte!

So glad Becca & Karn made it to PA without any mishaps. The pics wedding pics are great. Kalyn’s photography is wonderful. Good choice.
Looks like you aren’t wasting any time at your place. Furniture down from the attic and on to the floor show. Really can’t wait to see that lovely flooring everywhere. It is going to look so nice.
Poor sorrowful Reuben. Did you get him a toy or something with Rebecca’s scent on it? Hope so. I’m sure he will like the new floor too. He’ll enjoy watching you and George working on it.
Sewed some buttons yesterday on the crazy doll outfits here. Thought I was done. Guess not. Although, I do have five girls dressed. Have to do some shoe switcharoos though. 🙂

Poor Reuben — he’s been a star for days now, but he’s going to need some cheering up. But Rebecca is not gone forever, and you may all grow accustomed to enjoying her company some of the time instead of all the time. Altogether Karn and his mother look like a real gain — I think you’ll enjoy them a lot and you’ll get to know something about Armenian food if you are lucky. I have the lovely old Time-Life Cooking of the World series, and of all the wonderful food pictured and described, the Armenian section looks most fresh and appealing. (I hope I haven’t got her native country wrong.)

Your new bedroom looks lovely with the sun coming in — and you found a rug. I still agree with myself that the bedside tables might look nice painted to match the closet and trim. I liked all the adjectives you used to describe your room. I think that’s what most of us want in a bedroom.

I love the new bed. What a wonderful “freebie”! And a free mattress set too. What’s not to like about that.

Your bedroom looks so pleasant and cozy. You’ve done a great job with it.

Poor Reuben. I hope he adjusts soon. He looks so forlorn. Maybe a trip to the chicken yard is in order.

Thanks for the link to the pictures. They were wonderful. Rebecca and Karn chose a wonderful venue. Great pictures and equally great photographer.

Thanks to all those that have been giving me advice on knee surgery. Obviously regarding recovery one size doesn’t fit all. I never thought it did but was looking for just a ballpark idea of what will be forthcoming. He’s been trying to get this done all year but one thing or the other kept interfering. I’m not over the moon that surgery and recovery are going to be during the holiday season when I have a million other things on my plate, but I will be over the moon when it’s off the to do list. His second surgery is right at the time of my Chorale concert. I imagine he won’t be attending because sitting that long in one very limited spot probably won’t work well for him. As for PT, I’m not worried about him taking it seriously. After he had heart surgery and they told him he had to walk, he drove the medical staff nuts because he wanted to walk all the time. He said laying in bed was boring. He’ll be on his feet and down at his shop as soon as he can I’m sure, and with the boys down there with him I won’t worry.

Can’t wait to see Charlotte’s swap and Joy’s creative endeavors. I hope to get back to sewing today. I planned to the last two days but got doing other things and didn’t get to it.

Jeanne, Rebecca and Karn’s wedding photos are so beautiful and they look very happy! Their adventure begins. I don’t know who is the most sad, you and George, or Reuben-all three of you I am guessing.

Your bedroom looks so soothing, those colors just work beautifully with the wall color and the floors. The closet doors look amazing, I am remembering all the reconfiguring that went into getting them perfect. Well done!

Well, three cheers the kids got there safely and that you and George are back in your own lovely, lovely bedroom! I am continually astounded with your bargain finds and connections, Jeanne. What a pretty queen frame and a mattress set! Hot diggitydog!

I could just hug wee Reuben to pieces! Poor, sweet baby.

Is Karn is an only child? And his mama lives there, too, in the same house?. Well, I wish them all good luck. I am married to an only child who could never ever do anything wrong. Thank God we didn’t all have to live together! Saying prayers for them all and that Mama has her own apartment set up there so she’s rather independent. Golly!

Very much looking forward to seeing your next DIY.

Have a wonderful day day, ladies!,

What a great find the bed was and now a mattress too. The room will come together quickly like your lovely room did.

It’s nice that Rebecca is familiar with living with more than one other adult in the house. Lovely people 🥰. I hope they will get a dog or even another dog 🐕 🐶 !

I went for a walk on Huntington Beach Pier yesterday for the first time since an operation last year. I was shocked to see what I thought was a new oil rig on the road to get there. Turning onto Pacific Coast Highway, it turned out to be a huge container ship with about 20 more anchored ships lined up at equal distance from each other all the way to LA and Long Beach Harbors. A fisherman on the pier said there were actually 60 ships if we were seeing all of them through the haze. Turns out there are another 30+ out so far that it’s too deep to drop anchor! Turnaround time is about seven days to get in and two days to unload! I think I was seeing Christmas gifts and decorations on the high sea and hope it all gets distributed soon. If you see it, buy it because things will be scarce this year.

    1. Sally from Colorado

      Susette,
Happy to hear you were able to get out to do that walk, but very sobering news, I agree. Yes, shop early so we can all emit convincing “Ho-ho-ho’s” when the holidays roll around.

    2. Joy in northern CA

Oh, Susette, did you see the box with dolls from RubyRedToys? Hope so. Have a dolly coming hopefully. Just kidding! 🙂 But, they have been saying that if you need to purchase toys for kids to do it now while they still have things in stock. But, so hard to think that far ahead for me anyway.

      1. Susette from Southern California

No! I checked the site but didn’t see a box of toys. Help! Love miniature things.

  9. Anne Coldron in New Zealand

Poor Rueben my heart goes out to him. he will need lots of love and reassurance for a while but I bet you will get comfort from cuddling him as well. My eldest son lives in Melbourne and don’t see him much more than once every two years but all that is in the past with covid. Melbourne is still in lockdown so the last time I saw him and my grandaughter was in Jan 2019 after Rob had his stroke and I went over to help. I can’t see a visit any time soon. Luckily my other three children live here in Christchurch.

I love your room now it is finished Jeanne. my bedroom is not very nice. Boring curtains, boring bedspread, old (but not beautiful) furniture. Once Sam moves in and she gets her share of the proceeds from the family home (strictly 50/50 split in this country) we will extend the house and I will re do the bedroom but till then I will live with my office in there as well as the bed..I will send some photos if/when the transformation happens.
