In case you have been absent for a week or two, we finally got the new roof on our house. and it’s wonderful!!! However, the mess that was in my sewing room was crazy…The shingles that had disintegrated on the roof, fell into this crack on the roof…
…which runs along the ceiling in my sewing room below… (it’s an 8 second video)
It seemed like the more grit and dust I swept up, the more it multiplied. It just kept falling out… and sort of resembled crumbled up Oreo cookies all over the one side of my sewing room. If you jumped in the house, or slammed a door, more stuff fell out… My hubby finally took a flyswatter and swished it around up between the trim and where the ceiling met and it finally stopped coming through enough for us to vacuum up by the trim and finally begin to caulk the crack all along the ceiling.
The grit from the shingles scratched up my newly painted trim so I had to do some touch up work all across that top trim board… BUT now it’s all good… clean and bright white just like it was before and NOW, I don’t have to worry about it ever leaking again… That’s a VERY GOOD feeling…
But, my sewing room was a real mess because I had to move my sewing table out and everything that was on it to clean… I didn’t think it would take me as long as it has, but those crumbles were everywhere… I moved most of my stuff to the other side and I didn’t like it…I wanted to back the way it was…
They were all over the floor and if you stepped on them, they were essentially tar, so they smeared and stuck to the floor… I had to use Goo Gone and Magic Erasers to get those spots off… I certainly didn’t want to track them all over my house… so I took off my shoes, and that way I could feel when I stepped on one… and knew one was below my foot. I know that sounds silly, but it worked… and I think I finally have them all up… at least I think I do! I managed to get the table and my machines moved back in place…
My dolly shelf was close by and I guess all the jarring and hammering on the roof, made lots of dust appear in my room too… I had taken my clear containers with all my buttons and trims on that shelf in the middle of my room, and put them over on a chest on the other side of the room, and put my dolls behind that curtain to keep them safe from jiggling off the dolly shelf…
And I just got them all back on the dolly shelf, after giving it a thorough wipe down…
So even though I didn’t get any sewing done over the weekend, it’s next on my list… I’ll keep working on the other half of my room, but I can at least get to my sewing machine and sew!
The hens still haven’t gotten in the swimming pool yet… my hubby is a bit disappointed… however, “SOMEONE” is trying to earn some “brownie points!” :o)
I am so glad you have been able to restore order to your sewing room again, Jeanne! I know that had to have been irritating, to just think you had the mess cleaned up and then some more came showering down! But all should be well, now, with the fly swatter technique, followed by a good caulking!!
Oh, my goodness, it certainly does look like one of the hens is trying to earn brownie points! That egg is HUGE!! I wonder if it has a double yolk? It just might.
Our son and his two younger boys came to see Ron this afternoon for a short visit. We hadn’t seen the boys since the end of Jan., so both Daniel and Jacob got their long delayed birthday gifts (their b-d’s are in Feb.)! I also took a picture; I really thought it was important to do that, as Ron is getting so frail, and we just never know how long we will have on this earth. I posted the picture on my FB page tonight (look for Charlotte Larson Trayer, and send a friend request if you want to see).
Hope George and all the other dads out there had a good Father’s Day, too!
How nice that your son and grandsons could visit for awhile. I’m praying for you and Ron. We have a friend from church who will be going in for heart surgery today. He has holes in his heart that they say they can close up. He’s looked so frail lately. It seems we are at the age where things like this happen often but in every case things have gone well. Much answered prayer. I’ll be sending you a friend request for FB.
Thank you, Barbara. I sent you a message and added you as a friend.
So happy for you guys having a new roof. It’ll take a load off your minds in many ways.
And yes the hammering and pounding has some unexpected results. Its why the lights over my bathroom sink don’t match π€£
Happy Monday! At least you donβt have to spend the week on the roof again. So nice to be finished with all the extra things that pop up when you take on such a bid project.
Your doll room will look so organized and pretty again soon.
Hope everyone was able to spend Fathers Day with those close to you.
Have a sewing good week!
Sorry to hear of the mess and more mess. Definitely wouldn’t want that black asphalt stuff tracked everywhere. Good thing the water heater is working too for clean up after. π If you think back, this year has had so many things needing a fix or repair at your place, it is exhausting. I presume that the air conditioning sprang back to life after a reset? Hope that isn’t next on the down time list. Anyway, sounds like everything requiring work is coming along and soon that wonderful back to sewing time will occur. Not sure which chicken laid that egg, but hope she is resting today. π
We had a great time visiting the grands yesterday and seeing there now complete downstairs remodel. Well, all complete except for the cooktop that just arrived and one elusive bathroom vanity. Fortunately, their contractor ordered wood, appliances, etc. well in advance because as Jeanne knows, getting appliances isn’t easy right now. After living upstairs with a makeshift kitchen for five months, the new spacious, bright, beautiful area is delightful. The highlight was seeing the recent swim meet on their new huge tv. Middle grand won first in the medley for the whole county even beating out the boys. She’s 8. π Brag brag. π
I will definitely take pictures after the new vanity is installed. All the bathroom fixtures are black. We bought the sinks years ago when we bought the rest but are just now getting around to creating the vanity for them. It’s a double vanity. The sinks are octagonal.
Congratulations to your granddaughter for her win!! I think her first name is Landry but what is her middle name? I’m thinking Landry would be a lovely name for another LD. So unusual.
Her middle name is daughter’s maiden name. Aloise. π
Your bath is going to be so fantastic. Couldn’t live without a double vanity. Ours is small, but so helpful in keeping my sanity. π
I’m glad you are mentioning the effects working on the roof can have on the inside of the house. I will keep that in mind when we finally get around to doing ours. It’s great that you solved your fall-out problem. And what a mess it was. What a great idea to use a fly swatter to get all the debris down so you could finally get it all cleaned up. Now it sounds like your sewing room has reached nearly ultimate perfection. I say nearly because it always seems when you think things are “just right” you see something else you want to change. But your room looks like a wonderful place to sew. I love the size of it.
I’m nearly finished re-organizing my patterns so I can move on to other things. David and Sean left this morning for their out-of-town job. They will be gone till Friday evening. I actually like having some serious time to myself because I have several projects that require a lot of hours and I like being able to work until I choose to stop. I haven’t had this chance for a long time so, as they say, I need to make hay while he sun shines. These organizing projects have been hanging over my head for a long time and once I get them taken care of I plan on spending more time in my sewing room free of guilt.
Your sewing room looks beautiful. Your kitchen is beautiful. The roof makes your house look wonderful. Even the chickens look good. Congratulations on many jobs well done.
Is Josefina next?
We are having a nice day. I hope you are too. The heat will be back tomorrow.
