If I EVER say I need more lace, you have MY permission to scold me….

A few of you mentioned that I must have a lot of flowers to decorate my hats… I readily admitted I did… but I thought I’d show you. I keep them all in a butterfly box and they are easy to find… I have them still in packages to keep them from getting smashed. I have bought most of them on sale, on clearance or at yard sales… I keep my leaves and greenery in a drawer…

If you click on any picture, it will enlarge…

This probably needs no explanation… Either Rebecca or my hubby bought this tin picture for me one year… I don’t currently have it up on my wall, but with all the clothesline talk, I certainly remembered it…

I was working on my lace cabinet today… It was a disaster and I didn’t even take the picture when it was at its worst… I was too embarrassed to show you… If you opened the doors, you had to be ready to catch whatever was in front, because something surely would fall out…

I was sorting laces and appliques and it took me ALL day… I started somewhere around 9:00 this morning and I just left my room at 9:30 tonight… and I’m not even done yet… but I did do this…

It always gets messier before it gets better…

I’m hoping to be finished with it tomorrow and then I’ll show you more…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, you really do have a lot of flowers and things! I did wonder what you meant when you said you kept them in “a butterfly box”, but then that one picture explained it!

Oh, that is a cute washday picture! You need to put that back up again, I think!

I have to say, I think you Might have more lace than I do! Yours is Much better organized, however! I really like how you used compartmented boxes, then rolled the laces to fit various compartments. I think I need to do that. Right now, they are all shoved into two plastic “shoeboxes”….and in no particular order! Hopefully I will remember to pick up some of those compartmented boxes next time I see a good sale. That would be a good job to do in front of the TV some night. Put on a good movie and sort and roll and stash….

I take it you didn’t get together with Sebastien again today? Maybe you could do as a couple of gals have suggested, put the fabric against a red or deep pink background, or try some of those mints next to it. (And of course you might have to nibble a few!)

    1. HI Charlotte,
It’s kind of nice that my hat flowers and things don’t take up too much space… except for my hat braid and my molds, it all fits in this box…
I organized all my leather things too… tools, foot forms, patterns, and leather all in another box like that… I had it all over the room so it’s nice, when I want to do shoes, or hats, I can just grab the box and have everything I need…

I have been wanting to organize that lace for years and years and yesterday I got a really good chunk of it done… I do need to go through it and let go of some of it… I’m sure I won’t use all that making 25-35 dresses a year… even if I made 100 slips a year, I’d still have lots left over…

Sebastian came over today and took some pictures with his camera, but now I have to wait on him to do what he does before sending them to me…
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I think the blue dress on the tin may have been the inspiration for the beautiful blue America Girl dress. Linda or Marilyn, our historians, will know the name of the dress. The tin plate was made in Germany and I believe the dress is a Pleasant Company item. I’ll check later. So you may have a bit of history there.

Wow! You certainly do have a first class collection of lace! How good it must feel to have that task completed. It sure makes for easier sewing to have so many supplies on hand. Thanks for sharing your collection with us.

    1. HI Susette,
The dress in my tin picture does look like Samantha’s Skating party dress… Who knows? Maybe it was the inspiration for Samantha’s dress…

I’m not entirely finished with the lace yet, but I got a good head start of it… I need to sort it out so all the eyelet is in a container, all the cluny lace is in one, all the venice lace, etc…
It was My pleasure to show it, but as I look back at my post, I might be slightly embarrassed at my stash… oh well…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I love your collection of flowers. I can’t believe you have found some at garage sales. I never see things like that even in stores. So nice to have them all available to peruse when designing a hat or adding the finishing touch to a dress.
The lace all sized and folded/rolled into divided boxes is a perfect storage solution. So nice to pick up a box and be able to see inside too. Are your boxes from Hobby Lobby? I have Art Bin boxes that are similar for my dolly shoes. However, I’m still working on that project. I could no longer get the same kind of mini size boxes at Joann’s that I use for the tiny shoes, so I ordered some from HL which arrived remarkably fast. I bought enough so there was free shipping too. 🙂
Hope you can figure out Isabelle’s outfit lighting soon and get it listed. Many are waiting for it. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
That is so neat that you lived near Charles Schultz and that he waved to you. What a sweet memory you have.

      1. Thanks Laura. Yes, and he did a lot for the town. Loved skating at his ice arena as a kid. Kind of rare here in CA. His last home burned in the 2017 fires, but fortunately the museum which houses much of his collection did not. 🙂

    2. HI Joy,
Yes, I find all kinds of things at yard sales and estate sales… stickers, flowers, doll baskets, fabric, crafty things, etc… I’m like a magnet when I see a yard sale… I can almost tell if they’ll have craft things… and sometimes they even advertise they are having a craft sale…

Actually my boxes are Plano boxes and came from Dunn’s Sporting Goods store… Rebecca just bought a whole bunch a few months ago… and gave me 6 more of them… They were $2.50 each… can’t beat that!

I have my buttons and felt flowers and other little things like that in them… and now ALL of my lace is in them… Well, not ALL of my lace, but all the by the yard laces are in them… I would like to get them sorted so all the same kind of lace is in the same container… It would be nice to have it that way, so when I’m looking for ONLY VINTAGE laces, I can just pick that box… but for now, just getting them rolled and in a container was wonderful!

Sebastian came over today and took pictures of Isabelle but he wanted to go home and do some things with Photo Shop to make them better… he is really hoping he got them right… I guess we’ll wait and see…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I was pretty sure the other day I didn’t have a “flower stash”. Now that I see yours I realize I truly don’t. But I did see some of the things you have that I have also so maybe I have the start of one. Never thought of the compartment boxes for storing lace. I use them for a lot of other things but didn’t think of that. My laces and trims are all in ziploc bags and then in bins according to color. I do have to go through them whenever I am looking for something but I use it as a chance to review in what I have. I go through it while I watch TV. I do the same thing when I’m searching for buttons. I have buttons in three boxes by size and use. Like “doll clothes”, “children’s novelty”, and a box for whatever doesn’t fit those categories. It is fun to review what I have every now and then.

I love the tin picture. Does remind me of my childhood.

The Easter Tea photo shoot got postponed a few days. The hostess is having her yard sodded. Actually what I planned for the grass didn’t work well so I ordered something that hopefully will be perfect and that I can use for other outdoor photo shoots in the future. Needless to say the girls not only want the photo shoot to happen but they know there will be lots of yummy goodies also so are chomping at the bit. I’ll be glad to get it done so I get my kitchen back. I always said I should have been a wardrobe mistress because I love messing with clothes, but I think I also should have been a set designer because as I’m putting things together I keep thinking of other details to add to it, which is probably why I don’t do it more often. It consumes me.

I seriously need to do some outside sprucing up but every time I put it on my agenda, it rains. I just took the dog out and it had rained again. My sewing projects have been put on hold until after the Tea but I’m sure there’s something around here that needs doing that is not outside. I probably won’t have to look too far.

    1. Yikes, Barbara…
Maybe showing my flower and lace stashes weren’t the best thing to do… I have had lots of those for years and years and lots of the lace was given to me… I used to sell at my local Farmer’s market and I can’t tell you how many times ladies would bring me laces and fabrics and threads and all kinds of crafting things… I’m pretty frugal when it comes to purchasing things so don’t think I bought all that! :o)

The boxes came from a Sporting Goods store… the tackle box section… they are Plano Boxes (I think from Texas) and work wonderfully for LOTS of my small stuff…

Whenever you get your photo shoot to work, we’ll be here to see it! Don’t stress but enjoy putting it together just how you want…
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Oh my goodness, Jeanne, you have enough lace to be sewing well into your100’s! At least now you have a better idea of what you have! You had better stay away from any sales that have lace included, and I have your permission to say that!😄

That cute clothesline picture does does remind me of beautiful crepe dress that belongs to Samantha! It is her Skating Party Dress, which she wore at a party, not to skate in! I have that dress and it is just a bit different, since it has long sleeves, not like the shorter one in the picture. You need to find a place for that picture in your sewing room!

Things are getting crazy here in St. Louis because today is the home opener for our
Cardinals baseball team! Unfortunately, it is going to be an off and on rainy day today, but the sun is shining right now. Gotta see those Clydesdales prance around the stadium to the tune of “Here Comes the King”! Win or lose, we love our Cardinals!

    1. HI Linda,
Well, good… you see that’s how I planned it… Live to be 100+ and have enough lace for all the dresses and slips I’ll be making in the meantime! :o)

I asked Rebecca if she gave the tin to me and she said she did… I like it too… I should find a place for it…

Go Cardinals… I love to watch them play! Do you go to all their games or do you watch them on TV? I’ve only been to 2 games I think… one was when pitcher, Al Hrabosky (The Mad Hungarian), got into a fight on the field… I remember seeing all these guys slugging one another and never forgot it… it was a LONG time ago…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Yay, we won the home opener! We used to go to the games quite a bit when we were younger and had season tickets too. However, one time I won a pair of box seats, at the place where I worked, and wow, those seats did it for me! Nothing else would do after you sit in the box seats! So now we watch at home. ☺️

    1. HI Julia,
I’m glad you enjoyed my stash! I personally like to see other people’s stash too! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. You do have a nice collection of flowers. I’ve never seen things like that for sale at yard sales either.
That little picture is just darling. It would look sweet in a laundry room as well.
Wow, you DO have a lot of lace. No wonder it is so easy for you t find an interesting piece to use with any given outfit. Now that it is all carefully rolled and organized it will be even better.

    1. HI Laura,
Yep, I always scout out the crafty tables first at the sales… and then look for other stuff… always have and probably always will! :o)
Yes, I know I have lots of lace and it will be lots easier to find what I’m looking for by opening these containers instead of digging through gallon zip lock bags full of everything…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Sylvia from NH

When I first looked at your flowers very early this morning, I thought you were really over the top with 5 boxes of flowers. Looking again, I see there is 1 box with 5 views. Not to many at all. Never have enough lace and eyelet. I have mine in plastic bags that sheets come in, I keep my buttons in plastic boxes.
I have been going to pass along that at 85 I still hang clothes out every day it is above 60 degrees and not raining. I love hanging out my wash. I do hang my husband’s tee shirts etc.
towards the road as someone told years ago that they drove by my house and there was a person taking a picture of my wash. Nobody is going to take a picture of my panties.

    1. I wish I lived in a place where I could hang out my wash. It would be a good way to get some sun, exercise and do a chore too. My mother always preferred it to her dryer but we lived in PA. I never thought about the logistics of hanging out the wash, but our clothesline was behind the house and not visible from the street.

    2. HI Sylvia,
Oh, bless you… as you mentioned “Not too many at all!” That makes me feel better! I’ve been sewing and collecting things for a years and years and that’s just what happens… things multiply and you end up with a stash like mine!
I had to laugh at your comment about nobody was going to take a picture of your panties…
Maybe the person taking the pictures of your laundry was just wanting a nice picture of your things blowing in the wind! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    3. Sylvia, we have a watercolor of an old home with laundry flapping in the breeze. Love it. Never even thought of looking at exactly was flying. Maybe the person was taking photos to use for ideas when painting. 🙂

  8. Loved seeing your stash…mine is similar with lace, not so many flowers. I’m a basket girl. A couple years ago I separated laces by color, then by age and put them in labeled baskets. They were nice, stacked well, and tidy….for awhile. At least I can find what ones I am looking for that way☺️
When you are not in town it is so handy to have right on hand. I rarely go to the fabric store for doll dress fabric or trims. …just a trip to my basement😊

    1. Hi Kathie,
Oh good… someone with as much lace as me! Yay! I have your sweet little Forget Me Nots in that box too… and love using them… thank you again…
I too, just go to I Dream of Jeanne Marie’s store… :o) I can “usually” find what I’m looking for!
      I bet you can too!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Now that your lovely lace is beautifully organized, you need inspiration to use it.

If you fall in love with the christening dresses, consider buying the babysitting set from AG. To see good pictures, go to AGPT and check out bingandnelsonfan’s post.

    1. Marilyn, there are so many great ideas for doll outfits here. Could go crazy. I was drawn to the first pinterest where a ways down there is a little jacket made with laces. Very simple, but with the lace added, wow. I would probably pair it with jeans for a more modern look. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    2. Hi Marilyn,
OH WOW! So much to look at! That dress on the top row about 4 over by Alyne or something like that caught my eye first… HOW adorable!
I’m going to be going back to this page for a long time… looking for ideas! I’m set for the next 100 years I think… and I’ve already got some of the lace! *wink* *wink*
Thanks for all the links… How fun! I hope everyone sees these…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. What a great idea for storing lace, Jeanne. I have a lot of those divided boxes but they all have stranded embroidery thread in them. I will have to try your idea. When I did some reorganisation in my work room, after 3 weeks sorting I couldn’t face sorting all the laces, and braids so they were drawn from all the different places and put in four deep boxes that fit in my cupboard. Now I wish I had bought the divided ones. Never mind I am sure I can find a home for the lace if/when I do get some of those. You do have a lot of flowers! I thought they were in 5 boxes till Sylvia mentioned them so I had another look.

I think I have everything sorted to set up the dolls for their Nan’s birthday party. Will have to talk to Sam, I think she and Ashley will want to come and do the photo shoot, they will be very upset with me if I do it without them so maybe this afternoon after school. I love the ‘Provence’ dress but quite disappointed in the ‘Get The Look’ dress. Hoped it would look better than it does. Not very happy with the shoes Anastasia is wearing I think she needs boots but they will have to wait as today and tomorrow I am busy all day.

    1. HI Anne,
No, ONE box full of flowers should last me quite a while… I’ve only ordered one group of the flowers… the long pink ones on the right side… I wanted that color pink for hats and couldn’t find them anywhere…
I hope you find time to set up for the birthday party… I bet it will look spectacular! I’ll have to look at the Provence dress pattern, I’ve forgotten what it looked like.
Oh come on Anne… just whip up a pair of boots… I’m sure you can do it! ;o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, your laces look lovely. I so need to organize, everything (laugh).

I feel like this Spring is bringing us all hope. It makes we want to do some new things. Not sewing, cooking, or crafting, though (laugh). I haven’t totally become a new person.

My first Afternoon Tea, since March 2020 in my favorite tearoom, will be this June. I can’t wait.

    1. HI Dorothy,
Maybe this is the year you learn to SEW! Could be… you never know! :o) Could be the NEW YOU! :o)
I hope you have your tea dress all laid out and ready to put on for your June Tea Time! :o) It will be here in no time!
      Blessings, Jeanne
