There’s something special about a blue dress on a blue eyed Little Darling…

I was busy today and got lots accomplished… (well, sewing wise… not so much on the painting.) I wanted to get Emmie’s dress set finished and I “almost” succeeded. I just have to do something for her hair… I needed to wait and see what the dress looked like before I decided…

So I wrote one of my goofy little poems to tell you what I did..

Emmie has thigh highs made for her dress
A bit of a pattern, to give them finesse
A sweet little bralette was very much needed
We have to be modest, I hope I succeeded
The slip is just perfect, I think it’s quite twirly
I know for a fact, it’s pretty much girlie!

The snaps are sewn on, five sets in a row
The hem has been done, by hand, don’t you know

I moved her sweet flower over a touch
Some of you noticed…thank you so much

So now, let’s see pictures of the dress all complete
I don’t think Miss Emmie has looked quite this sweet
I brightened the colors cause she looked somewhat drab
Now she looks great, and some might say FAB

I still have to make a hair bow or hat
We can’t have a dress and forget about that
I’ll try to get finished and then I will list it
I hope that you like it and your “girls” can’t resist it! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, yes!! The thigh-highs and petticoat add so much to her dress, and moving the flower made a huge difference! Can’t wait to see what’s next!!

BTW, hubby got his first Covid shot today–yay!! After hours of searching online for somewhere close (we were Not going to drive an hour since we are already in an urban/suburban area!!), I got word from one of the clinics I go to that they would have the vaccine available, and a phone number. I called Wed., and got a recording; I called today, and got an appt.!! We went there about 5:30, and it was done in a flash, had the 15 min. wait, and off we went! (I have chosen not to get it, at least not yet, due to my tendency to develop sudden and severe allergies to things; my doctor did suggest I wait until more data is available, and then I told her that is what I had already decided. Good to know I was on the right track.)

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
I have been gone most of the day working at the Food Pantry, so I need to kick it in gear and get her “hair” thingy done… surely I can get that done this evening…
I’m glad you like it so far… and thanks again for mentioning the flower placement…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oooh, I love that, Jeanne! Even her little bralette is just adorable, and paired with the slip, could be a ballet costume, althou a bit risque, I might say! LOL What would make an adorable picture, would be you various sized dolls all in their bralettes and slips in a befroom scene! Am I thinkinf of Degas’ ballerina’s picture?? Must be!

I don’t know if anyone else notices this, but having the dress open all the way doen to the hem at the back allows for one to dress the doll easier over a crinoline. Most of the time, the slip has to be added after the dress, which is kind of a pain, since it is hard to get a dress over the slip. I like that !

Yes, the flower at the waist is much better now, and I see the added pearl buttons on the sleeves, such a Jeanne Marie touch! The slip certainly does make the dress stand out, and I am wondering what you have in store for the hat or ribbon for her shining hair!

Good for your hubby, Charlotte! I am happy to say both Michael and I are getting our first shot tomorrow! We have signed up at various places only to get notice that either it is not available, or at some little town or some places that take us up 4 hours to get to! We lucked out, and only have to drive a minute away, at our church! What a stroke of good luck!

    1. HI Linda,
I’d like to see all my girls in slips and bralette’s TOO! But it will probably never happen… but it would be cute!
I like my doll dresses to open all the way down the back and I think “most” everyone else does too…
I’m going to get on that hair “thingy” next thing I do!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. The little undies are darling! Your ensembles are always so detailed with unique features. It’s fun to watch the thought process evolve. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    1. I downloaded the Freebie Pattern for Espadrilles from Pixie Faire for Freebie Friday. You might like one too.

    2. HI Susette,
I still sometimes can’t believe I have this blog and people like to read what I write and see what I sew… I’m glad you enjoy it here too… :o)
I’ll have to look at the pattern for the espadrilles… I’ve seen that pattern before…
      Thanks for the reminder…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Just lovely. All of the touches are so special. Hope you get it listed without any headaches this time.
    Happy painting. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
Thank you for your kind comments and I TOO, hope this one goes on without any hitches… I’m a little bit nervous about giving it a try… but I have to get that hat/hair bow made first… so we’ll see… pretty soon…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Very clever poem. The dress is gorgeous and with all the added accoutrements it is irresistible. I am hoping some day you will do a tutorial on making the slips with the yoke. I have Sara, Bella and Hanna sitting on the table in my living room where I can see and critique their Easter dresses (still have to do one for Stella). I keep thinking that aside from making them some lace tights their dresses could really use pretty slips. I could probably figure it out myself, but I know others on the Blog have asked for the instructions also.

It’s hard to think of some of my sofa sisters still getting snow. It is spring like here. I had to turn on my A/C yesterday.

    1. Thank you Barbara…
I’m glad you liked the poem… it was fun to sit down and fiddle with and see what came of my rhyming words… :o)
I WILL do a tutorial on making the slips… I have it written down…
We are having rain like crazy… and at 2:15a.m. this morning, I awoke to dripping in the master bathroom… yep, our roof was leaking again…
We got a second estimate the other day and it was higher than the first… my hubby has 2 more guys he has called but they haven’t called him back yet… We HAVE to get something done… and the sooner the better…
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Jeanne, I just went back and noticed you commented on my comment yesterday. Thanks for the info about the rows of gathering stitches. I was wondering if one of them was outside the 1/4″ seam. The Liberty of London designs I bought were Eloise, Wiltshire and Amelie.

    1. HI Barbara,
Nice picks on your Liberty fabrics… I can’t wait to see your colors… The dress fabric Emmie has on is called Emma and Georgina… I can’t wait for you to feel them…
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. That is a very clever poem, Jeanne. I like how it flows throughout the pictures. Another wonderful talent of yours.

The dress is darling. Fresh and crisp with its lovely flowered print. The length of her dress is perfect and her crinoline holds it out nicely. Such a pretty sweet and feminine outfit.

    1. HI Paula,
Kind of a silly, useless talent both my hubby and I have, but “sometimes” it works out just fine for what you need! :o) Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for your compliments on Emmie’s dress. She looks so pretty in blue… but then again, she looks pretty in almost anything!
      Thank you,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. What a neat poem
    And a beautiful dress
Wish I could think of more –
But my head is a mess!

Haha, just kidding. Nice job 🙂

    1. HI Karen,
I’m glad that you liked it, it’s really quite easy
To think of some rhymes and do bits of teasing
The words are so simple when describing dear dolly
But mostly I do them to make you feel jolly!

      Thanks Karen, :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Wow Jeanne, is there no end to your talents, now a poet, lol. Love the whole outfit. I really want to get back to the doll clothes every time I see your outfits but they aren’t big sellers at the market so have been concentrating on making things like the novelty bags that are not available anywhere else.
Pixie Faire Freebie Friday has espadrilles this week which look good. I have added it to my collection of as yet unused patterns lol

    1. Thanks Anne,
My hubby and I both write silly little poems like this all the time, in birthday cards, etc… and love to hear each others…
I’m going to show your purses tomorrow I think… I’m glad you have something that no one else is making for the market.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. What a darling dress and fits Emmie so right,
Anyone who sees her will be in delight.
From her shining brown locks to the tips of her toes,
She’s a special girl, as you already know.
I’m sure, once it listed, it will sell like a dream,
All Little Darlings will be glued to the screen.

    1. Awww, Laura,
      I loved your poem… that’s so sweet!
Thanks so much for sharing it! I can’t top it so I won’t even try!
I hope you are right about all that you say! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Cute poem, Laura — I was waiting to see where it would go — success — very nice. I always like to see Jeanne’s poems answered by poems.

Our governor doesn’t want to see a winter disaster like the one in Texas. He has issued clear emergency directions and has the National Guard ready to find and take care of emergencies — the snow is so intimidated that the nearly 1/4″ we have had so far has melted.

The dress is lovely and the underclothes push it over the top. I’m still hoping for a bonnet but a nice bow would probably set off the outfit just fine.

    1. Thanks Marilyn,
Karen commented with a poem and now Laura did. I love it!
I’m glad your snow is melting.. just in time for Spring to arrive!
I looked in my hat straw last night and I don’t have any white white and I don’t have any blue that’s the right color… so it will probably be a hair bow, maybe attached to a hair band… I hope that will work…
      I’m glad you like it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Carole Hopkins

Jeanne The whole ensemble is perfect. I love the bralette, panties, and slip–so girlie. I love the dress too. Can’t wait to see what you do with her hair a bow or a hat???? I appreciate your help with my whitening hankie dilemma.

    1. Thank you Carole,
      I finally made it to my sewing room…so let’s see what happens… I made a note about the whitener… so I wouldn’t forget…
      Thanks for your sweet compliments!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I love the length you have chosen for the dress.

Emmie’s adorable, that is so true.
    And who made her dress?
    Ah, that was you!

    1. Awww…Dorothy,
      How sweet you are!!!
Thank you SO much!! I’m just now taking pictures of her______
Oops! I’ll have to wait till tomorrow to tell…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. You are just the best poet! Her pics in her bralette socks and slip are just darling. The dress can be for any season and such a pretty blue! Maybe make her a small straw hat with big flowers…., ðŸĪŠ

    1. Hi Kathie,
Well, the straw hat will have to wait till another time… I already have a hair bow made for this dress. I didn’t have any blue straw and that was what I was hoping for…although I just realized after reading your comments… I “could” have made her a natural colored straw hat… now why am I just now thinking of that… silly me…
Oh well, next dress maybe will get that straw hat!
Thanks so much! I almost cut up the blue glove you sent to make her a purse, but it was a bit too bright of blue for this fabric… but it would have been cute to see a little leather purse… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne
