Don’t forget: Tonight my yellow and blue dress, “Spring Chic”, ends on Ebay… If you missed it, you can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar, or you can click HERE…
Here’s a picture of it… just as a reminder…
Now… guess what color Elizabeth’s Regency dress will be? Well, that was a no-brainer, but I debated about a pink this time. However, when I held this blue up to her, I heard a tiny little, “yes please” from her… so I decided I would use it… :o)
I think it will make a pretty Regency dress and I should have gotten farther along on it, but I got stumped…
…on what lace to use…
I tried a zillion different variations on the bodice and liked this ecru colored vintage piece (I think Kathie sent me), but as lovely as it was, there were some age spots that kind of were in key spots and I didn’t think I could work around them…. but I’ll find a use for it one of these days…
Then I tried all different kinds of vintage laces but finally settled on this white one that my sister, Cindy, sent me from Pennsylvania… It’s a German lace and very pretty and I had exactly enough to do the neck (minus the back piece) and the sleeve cuffs…
The rest of the dress “should” go together pretty quickly… Let’s hope so…
My pictures aren’t the greatest as it was late at night when I took them… but I think you can tell and hopefully be excited about what will be coming in the next few days…
Well, that’s it for today…short and sweet…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I see that “Spring Chic” has EIGHT bids already!! Congratulations to you, Jeanne, and to whoever wins this auction! Exciting!!
Oh, that is lovely fabric; blue was my mother’s favorite color, and I know she would have approved! The lace is beautiful, too, and I’m glad you had just enough. Although the other lace is really lovely, to almost seems a bit to “big” (the motifs) for Elizabeth, at least to me, although it was very pretty with that fabric.
I’ve cut out a new dress–for Bella! I discovered, on checking Bella and Hanna with various fabrics, that Bella actually looks better in yellow than in lavender, while Hanna looks wonderful in lavender! So Hanna will get the dress I originally made for Bella, and Bella will get a yellow one with red, green, white, etc. “sprinkles” on it. I promise to send pictures when I’m done.
Oh, and Bella’s new nightgown fit her perfectly, so the adjustments I made to that pattern were just right!!
I really like the lace chosen for Elizabeth’s dress. Just enough to let the blue fabric shine. The ecru didn’t go at all to me. However, it would be lovely with a different colored fabric at another time. Perhaps you can soak the lace and remove the age spots? I’m trying to figure out how you did the sleeve band. So pretty. Did you sew the sleeve to the lace and then put the band on top? or some other way? I really like that touch. Perfect width band too. Pretty and not too fussy. The sleeves have just the right amount of fabric too. What will Elizabeth be doing? Picking a bouquet of wildflowers as a gift for her aunt? Taking cookies to the church bazar? Guess we will find out. 🙂
Just stopping in quickly before the store run. Well Jeanne, you are certainly in speed sewing mode for the new year, three beautiful dresses with a fourth on the way and a mix and match set thrown in.
I love the blue fabric, so airy and springlike. It’s wonderful to see spring things while we have maybe 4 or so inches of snow on the ground. The lace is just perfect to set off the square neckline. I love those.
Elizabeth looks so pretty on that blue colored fabric, Jeanne, and I do also love the white lace you have chosen. I thought the ecru lace just didn’t go well, and gave the blue a “muddy” look, but the lace itself is beautiful. The white is so clear and crisp looking when paired with the blue!
Perhaps a garland of pretty blue and white flowers and a ribbon streamer for her hair might be the perfect touch? She would look lovely with her hair down or maybe two sides pulled back with some curls on top? Hard to explain, but the dress is coming along beautifully and this looks like another winner to me!
It’s another cold day here, but looks so pretty with the light snow we had yesterday! We are staying in for sure!
I was so busy having fun with the package that arrived yesterday from Jeanne that I didn’t take time to Comment. Kit loves the one outfit and looks like she’s ready for Canarby Street in London in the ‘60s. Ninea is ready to work in the garden in jeans and the blouse. I’m also going take pictures of two other girls wearing the other prototypes. I like the fit better than a pair of super-tight jeans 👖 I had ordered on the day before Jeanne started on her odyssey of the jeans. They are too tight and are fingernail breakers to put on. Every piece of Kit’s outfit is so special. The purse is totally realistic and has a mini version of the Memory Match card game in it. Thanks everyone for passing on this one. I’m obviously thrilled!
Oh, dear. It’s Carnaby Street.
That’s how I read it, Susette!! I had to go back and look, after your “oh dear” comment!! 😊
What a lovely blue print, Jeanne. The blue compliments Elizabeth too. It looks so nice on her. The white lace is the perfect choice. I like how you’ve sewn it on the sleeves and around the neckline. This is going to be a beautiful Regency outfit. It will be interesting to see what else you have in mind for it.
I love the blue fabric, it is so pretty. Elizabeth will look lovely. I must admit I like the white lace on the blue. You are so industrious.
Sam and I haven’t been too flash the last couple of days, some kind of tummy bug. We probably got it from the rest home when we pick up my friend, I know it was going around there. Feeling a lot better today, thank goodness. Didn’t do any sewing but started on tidying my quilt pattern collection. I have more patterns than I will ever make in my lifetime so decided to only keep ones I really love and may actually make. Unfortunately Sam and I have very different tastes so I need to get her to look over the ones I don’t want before I toss them. I would like to start sewing today, hopefully I feel up to it.
Susette, would love to see your girls in their new outfits, I hope you are going to send a picture. I must remember what you said about the skinny jeans being hard to put on. I’ll make sure any I make will have enough room.
We had some heavy rain last night, best time for it, the garden really needed it. It is supposed to be fine today so hope so. It hasn’t been the best summer so far and it is nearly over !!! Not much rain, LOTS of cool cloudy days, with the occasional hot day thrown in. The children are all back at school now so the weather will probably improve, that is what often happens! In an ideal world they would be on holiday from end of Jan to beginning of March which is equivalent to July/Aug/Sep in your part of the world but because of Christmas and New Year that just wouldn’t work so they finish a week or so (earlier for High school) before Christmas and go back beginning of Feb.
I was looking on TradeMe yesterday which is a local auction site. There we several lots of doll clothes (very cheap) and I started comparing them with yours on EBay. There was no staging, no props (not even a sheet behind) and no ‘extras’. They weren’t as well made as yours either.
Absolutely love that blue fabric…such a yummy shade. I like the white lace you choose too. That piece in your pic of laces that looks like a series of little fans is one I’ve never seen….oh so pretty. Maybe a couple days soaking in oxy clean would take the stains out of the beige lace. Or if it is rust a dab of rust remover may do it.
Right on with your dresses! This one will be a knock out!
Elizabeth does indeed look brilliant in blue. And I love this dress. I’m not big on period attire but I do love the Regency era. Everything was so feminine looking. I love the high waists that let the skirts of the dresses flow so prettily. The blue fabric is gorgeous and I love the lace. I too am curious about how you did the edges of the sleeves. Really pretty.
David and I both had a good night last night. He had a doctor’s appointment this morning. I drove him and sat in the car reading till he was through. He has another one tomorrow. I’m actually hoping to get some sewing done later in the week. I still have the quilt to do for my new grandbaby but hesitated working on it while I was fighting the leaky roof. I definitely need to spend more time creating. That keeps my head on straight better than anything else. Always has.
Dear Jeanne, what a lovely color. I can’t wait to see what you do next with the dress.
