The voting will be TOMORROW…but today is just for fun…

My sisters are leaving early Tuesday morning, so I spent time well into the evening Monday…to be with them. I want to get a few outside pictures of the girls so you can see the details on the dresses better. I’m hoping for a clear day Tuesday and will get those last few pictures for you. Then we’ll let the voting FOR THE DRESS YOU THINK WILL BRING THE HIGHEST PRICE ON EBAY begin on Wednesday. I think I’ll let it go for 2 days so everyone who wants, gets a chance to vote. I’ll explain it all again Wednesday…

So keep an eye out for Wednesday’s post…

In the meantime, Linda sent me some fun pictures of her girls dressed for Fall. They are adorable. If you are on a laptop or desktop, click on the pictures, so you can see ALL the details! They are loaded this time… :o)

This is what Linda wrote me about her pictures:

I finally got most of my fall pictures taken, except for the modern girls, but I don’t want to do too many. You know how it is when people go on vacation, or have grandchildren, they just keep on taking pictures over and over!! Hopefully, I’m nothing like that! Hopefully!

Well, I decided not to have the 40’s girls at a pumpkin farm. I do that every year, so I wanted to do something a bit differently. So what are they doing? They are at a pumpkin farm! Ha! I decided to add something new, and I noticed they had pony rides at most of them, and since I never did that, I decided to add the AG pony I have and put Betsy on it. It worked out just fine! However, due to the space I have for the scene, it is a bit crowded for my taste! It is just OK, but Betsy looks like she is having a ball! By the time I added the pumpkins, hay bales, four dolls and a pony, plus two dogs, it was more than enough!!

If you have the earlier AG dresses, you might recognize Addy’s Birthday Dress on Cecile, and Felicity’s original meet dress on her. They both look “Fallish I think.

I’ll get the modern girls done sometime this week, then onto Halloween!
Love to you,
Linda

Thanks Linda… there is plenty to look at today!

See everyone tomorrow, with final pictures for voting on…
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I hope you are enjoying every last minute you have with your sisters! I always envied my best friend because she had FOUR sisters, and I had none, just one brother. (Of course she wished she’d had a brother! LOL) June and I are still best friends–since first grade!–and I figure she’s the sister I never had. We have a great many things in common–even our married last names are similar!

Linda, I always enjoy seeing the vignettes you create with your dolls, and today is no different! I’m glad to see that Molly is holding onto the horse’s reins so he doesn’t run away with Betsy on his back!

Cecile looks good in Addy’s dress, and seeing Felicity reminds me, I need to see about getting my Felicity fixed–her joints are a bit loose, and I’ve only had her out of the box once or twice! I bought her in the Chicago store, years ago–she was my wedding anniversary present from my husband when we were traveling that spring! (Bought so much stuff, I had to have it shipped home–there was no room in our car! LOL)

  2. Thank you Jeanne for showing the picures and Charlotte for commenting on them. For some reason, they look like underwater scenes to me, since they look a bit fuzzy! Not like that on my computer, but that happens!

Yes, Charlotte, get your pretty Felicity out of the box! If you put her on a stand, loose joints are not a problem, since the stand holds her up. Since my dolls are out all the time, they all have and are on stands, and loose jomts are not a problem.

  3. Charlotte, how do you feel today?
Soon we should know if Anne’s work got some recognition. I’d love to see that doll dress win a prize. If not, the competition must be out of this world. Pictures would be nice.

Jeanne, I’m looking forward to hearing about your weekend and whether the three of you managed another project. Was this their first time seeing the sewing room finished?

Linda, your pictures are always great. Betsy looks so happy. Years ago, when my mother was going downhill, my sister Sue gave her a teddy bear with something about hugs written on his shirt. Mom got out a tiny floppy bunny to be a companion for the bear. On various occasions I took things over to add to their adventures. Once my Riley doll took her stuffed rabbit along and I forgot him. The next day, there was Emily, Mom’s tiny bunny, holding the even smaller rabbit and looking so thrilled that I couldn’t take him away from her (and Riley had another one, so it was ok). Who says dolls and bears — and rabbits — don’t have feelings.

Marilyn, I am feeling SO much better, thanks for asking! The swelling is down, the pain is gone (some areas were painful to the lightest touch), the welts are gone. Still a little itchiness and redness here and there, but definitely tolerable! If I hadn’t been able to see the doctor when I did, I’m quite sure I would have ended up in ER, they were that bad. Very thankful for medication!!

  4. Love your pumpkin farm photos, Linda. Great details, especially Betsy and the pony. Such a fun scene to display for fall.
Did you do anything exciting with your sisters this weekend? Started unpacking yesterday from the evacuation readiness. Today, I’ll hopefully get the photos back on the walls and other things returned where they reside. Much better unpacking than frantically packing. Hopefully, we won’t have to do that again for a long time.
I’m already anxious to see how the dolly vote turns out. Will it be blue or beige?

    1. I just have to know, do you pack up all the dolls to evacuate? Since I always worry about hurricanes here, I’ve often thought what I would pack if I had to leave in a hurry. I keep all the dolly children within arms reach to put in a box or basket, I would grab my embroidery/sewing machine, I keep all the family pictures in one spot for quick access and I would grab my laptop. Oh, and I guess some clothes, at least for me.

      1. The first big fire, I bundled the dollies into pillowcases. Easy to transport. This time. They didn’t make the cut. Mostly things off the walls and the necessities like paperwork etc. Just not enough room to cram in things. Clothes were minimal, but definitely underwear. 🙂 We had our phones and charging cords. Didn’t bother with the computer this time. When you start piling things by the door, it gets crowded quickly. I know I would probably kick myself for not bringing something, but if time was the factor, just the basics are all we would be bringing. The total of lost homes in our county is now over 300. Some had been in the families for generations and many back to the early 1900’s. 🙁

  5. I love seeing your doll vignettes, Linda. Do you have baby Polly? I see a little hand in the bottom right corner of Felicity’s photo.

I’m starting to miss my dolls. I did bring some tiny dolls and I am crocheting a dress for one. My creative outlet has been crochet since I got to my dad’s. I have a big project that I thought I had reached a “start sewing together” place. HA. I discovered a big mistake so I frogged back to it in order to fix it. I haven’t gotten back to where I was. Instead I started a new project with some new yarn. So that’s 3 projects on the go. A bit of hand sewing is going into some Christmas presents, too.

We’re going to Roseau today. Dad has an eye exam. We may do some shopping. We will definitely grocery shop at a bigger store than locally. Woo hoo! A trip to a bigger town!

    1. No baby Polly, Julia, she is very hard to find on Ebay. I put a little Kewpie doll in the cradle instead. It works out fine!

  6. Fun pictures Linda! The girls look they’re having a ball at the farm. Betsy is adorable sitting up on the horse. Does the horse have a name? All the pumpkins and activity – it’s great. I always enjoy seeing everyone’s dollies having fun. Your scenes are great!
Jeanne, glad you got to spend some time with your sisters! Sister power!!!

  7. Love your pictures Linds. You are right about Pumpkin Farms having pony rides . Pictures with kids and pumpkins and pony’s always look festive. The western shirt and bunnies are perfect too.
The decisions between blue and beige will be very interesting!

  8. Fun pictures as always, Linda. I love seeing how all the dolly kids have fun. I’m thinking of doing some fall pictures myself since I have a lovely fall backdrop, but I definitely plan on a winter outing for the girls. I just got the Wellie sled and snowshoes. Now I’m taking inventory to see who has or needs winter outdoor clothes so they can participate. I don’t usually do coats and things but I decided this year I would do it at least for some.

I keep my dolls on stands as Linda does. They all seem to do quite well with it. My 18″ Natalie needs her joints tightened so I’m going to try the rubber band method. In the meantime she is wearing a pair of tights that help some and she’s on a stand.

Since I won’t be in Colorado this year and my Colorado grandson’s third birthday is today, we are going to do a duo call at noon. He’s talking very well now and it should be fun. Looking forward to eBay election day.

  9. Thank you all so much! I’m glad to bring a little bit of sunshine in your days! It makes it all worthwhile to show others who also have fun with their dolls . You all “get” it!
Oh dear, no, I don’t have a name for the paint filly! She is a very busy little pony, and goes galloping around in Josefina’s, Kaya’s and the 40’s girls scenes, wherever she is needed. She is small enough to put in various places, unlike the bigger horses.

  10. Linda has a wonderful collection and sets the scenes with so much interesting detail. Always winners, especially the overalls and straw hats. So many things to see in each picture. Thanks for sharing.

Linda reminded me that the family has a picture of one grandson looking highly suspicious at being placed on a pony when he was in nursery school. He wouldn’t even go that far the year before, not a bad reaction since he had no occasion to ever see a live horse before.

Love the picture of you and your sisters. You are very fortunate to have such a lovely family.

  11. Always glad to see what Linda’s girls are doing. Betsy looks sweet on the horse and #21 (Susan) is absolutely adorable in the flannel shirt and kerchief. I like their scarecrow as well. Your village wallpaper border makes a perfect backdrop!
Cecile looks wonderful in Addy’s birthday pinafore. I was able to get that as my birthday present this year for Marie-Grace to wear. Felicity’s meet does look fallish. When I have time, my Felicity wears her Town Fair in September/early October and then switched to her school jacket and petticoat before her Christmas gown, but it doesn’t look promising this year.

Yes, Charlotte, you need to get your beautiful Felicity out of her box. As Linda said, if she on a doll stand the loose joints aren’t a problem , unless you’re attempting to have her hold something. The hair tie trick is easy. I did Marie-Grace’s and my customized Nellie’s arms a few weeks ago. I only had to take out a little of the stuffing to find the joint. I got these doll stands about five years ago

They’re out of stock now, Maybe you can find similar. I hope that I can. I loved that they were dark wood and would disappear plus they are super sturdy and have coated vinyl.. I now wish I had one more set, but at the time I only had four dolls, I hadn’t bought Marie-Grace or won QT Mary. The QT dolls need a stand, too top heavy . I have to keep her seated.
Can’t wait to hear about your wonderful time with your sisters, Jeanne.

  12. Loved seeing your photos Linda. I must show them to Sam and to Ashley, especially Ashley, she would love to set the scene for the dolls and photo them but we don’t have enough of any accessories yet and Sam is so busy with hospital appts either for her or Greg she hasn’t time to do other things.
Well I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t win anything last night. The prize in the category I entered the doll in went to a draw string bag called ‘A Bag for a Geisha’ and was the boro style (I think that’s what it is called. Basically darning patches using large, even running stitches. It is the latest ‘thing’ in patchwork. I am not very keen on it myself but as the judges said in their speech, they try to be objective but at the end of the day it is what appeals to them. I’m not sure they thought my doll outfit belonged in a Patchwork and Quilting exhibition. As far as the Christmas quilt went none of our group won anything for them. They looked great all hung together but we weren’t very imaginative with our titles, out of ten of us five called them Christmas Row by Row! The 20/20 Challenge first prize went to what looked like a page from a fish reference book. It was a Rainbow Trout, sounds boring but actually it was beautiful. If I take a photo today it won’t do it justice. You had to look very carefully to find all 20 items. Who knew you could buy hexagon sequins? I was a little disappointed that the second prize, although beautifully done, was from the centre of a quilt pattern in a magazine. The trout was no doubt taken from the picture in a book but Linda had to recreate that photo in fabric and she made all the different lures 8 of them, the second one didn’t have to do that, the patterns had already been made for her. I thought it lacked the creativity of many of the others. Had to laugh when I looked at mine though, apparently it was from a design by ‘Sam Clements’! I thought that was Mark Twain’s real name? Or was that Clemens? Either way, I don’t think whoever it was was into designing quilts. It was supposed to say Sam Chalmers, which is my daughter’s name. Someone did say to me that I had entered some lovely items and I overheard someone say that they liked my challenge quilt so that was nice
Joy, we had a fire here this week. This fire has been burning in the Mackenzie for a long time, I have mentioned it before, but they had strong norwesters (hot dry wind) this week and it whipped the fire up again. A small village on the shore of Lake Ohau had to be evacuated in the early hours of the morning, no time to collect anything, and the fire completely destroyed 50 houses in the village. Fortunately, thanks to the firefighters, no one was injured or died but it was a close run thing. The problem is that the fire is on Department of Conservation land and like most govt depts they aren’t given enough money to look after it the way they should. Most of the money they get around there is used to get rid of the Wilding pines which were originally planted because they grew well in the climate but have turned out to be a noxious weed because they reseed themselves so easily and are a real fire hazard. Still, it is only early spring, Summer is coming!! They need some heavy rain before then or there will be more fires.
I hope you have enjoyed your time with your sisters Jeanne. It is always sad to say goodbye. Just look forward to the next time.
Must go, I am on duty at the exhibition this morning from 10 till 1pm then Sam and I are having lunch with our friend then Sam has Chemo so it is a busy day. Since I won’t be home for quite a while I had better take the dog for his walk.

    1. Well, I think those judges need some refreshing. Your dress was amazing. Wish we could see the quilt. So sorry to hear of the fire. Such a sad thing when homes are lost. Believe it or not, we had a group of fire fighters get carbon monoxide poisoning today. They haven’t released the information yet, but figure they turned on a heater in one of the trailers that they use for emergency housing. Very serious. Hoping that all are okay. Hope you get some rain soon, and we have some sprinkles coming maybe this weekend. 🙂
