I couldn’t be happier with how Elizabeth’s Spencer turned out. She’s pretty thrilled with it too…
I modified the pattern…
…by leaving off the long tail and adding a short ruffled peplum starting at the side front and going around to the back. I like it this way very much.
The inside bodice is fully lined…the sleeves are not.
I used black snaps to close the front so it mimics the button side if the jacket is left open.
The best way to put the Spencer on your doll is to position both arms behind her and gently slide it on.
I only had a few scraps left…not nearly enough to make a bonnet…
But…my sister, Cindy, brought some straw bonnets the last time she came home and I wanted to use one, however they were slightly large on Elizabeth’s head. The brim was way too long…in my opinion.
I decided to take it apart, then redo it by stitching and gluing it together… for a much nicer look…
You can see the difference in their sizes below…
It will work now…I just have to get it embellished. That will give me something to work on today!!!
I hope you have a terrific Thursday!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, you did an amazing job of turning that Spencer jacket into one of a kind, Jeanne! I LOVE the back! Not to say the front isn’t nice too, but the back certainly is different! The whole outfit is just amazing of how it came together! I see there is a “space” for something pretty to put around her neck! That will be perfect! A pretty bow will be the perfect touch to the hat, which is also the perfect accompaniment for the outfit! This slightly reminds me of Caroline’s Travel Outfit and Spencer jacket, which I have. The hat is felt, but is the same shape as the one you are making.
Can’t wait to see this outfit at the finish line!
Hi Linda,
You have Caroline’s Travel outfit, spencer , and bonnet? Well, that one does look lovely. I do like the sleeve detail on the spencer. I said I didn’t regret getting any of Caroline’s stuff (beyond the travel basket) and that’s true. I think that outfit is very pretty, but I will live without it. LOL there are actually some doll things you can live without, who knew? *smiles*
Just out of curiosity, knowing you don’t have Caroline, who wears it? My guess is Ruthie, although your #21 probably would look sweet as well. Ruthie seems to make a great time traveler. I think the coral might clash with Felicity. For my collection Felicity and Samatnha are two I just can’t pull out of their assigned eras. I think because I saw them for too long first. Same is true for Kirsten, even though I don’t have her.
Well, Laura, please sit down! Felicity wears that outfit!! It actually looks very nice on her, and I sent Jeanne a picture of her in the jacket and hat, but with Josefina’s dress underneath.
Ruthie, Susan, who is my #21, and of course, Molly only wear clothes from the 40″, maybe 30″s or even 50″s! LOL! For some reason, they just don’t wear anything else, since I have enough dolls to wear other timelines. Cecile might be able to wear it too, of course, Regency is not her time, but she wears things of that era also. Cecile can never be a modern or even 40’s girl, because of her hair. Who wears hair like that? She is a beautiful doll, and everyone who sees her comments on her.
Thank you Linda,
I really enjoyed making this one…and I’m like you, I think the back is very pretty! I love this style jacket, even today! :o)
Oh yes, that space will be filled in by one of Becca’s necklaces, I hope. I mentioned it to her and she looked at it.
Thanks for the pictures of Caroline’s spencer and bonnet. It IS almost like mine…
Blessings, Jeanne
Beautiful spencer!
I’m waiting to see you decorate the bonnet! 🙂
HI Oksana,
Well, the bonnet is decorated and you’ll see it tomorrow! I hope you approve! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
You’re the best, Jeanne….love to see your work. Your details always make your outfits so very special.
Blessings.
Thank you Becky,
I’m enjoying making things in my new sewing room. It just feels different in here. I clean up every night when I close down shop… and empty my trash can… :o)
Thanks for your kind compliments!
Blessings, Jeanne
Hope everything is okay with Charlotte. Haven’t heard from her in a couple of days.
Love how the Spencer turned out. I like the modern take on it which is perfect for the summer season. The straw hat, redone, looks lovely and will be even sweeter with some decorations.
Somehow, the dollies hit the buy button and now we have an order of new shoes on the way. Remind me to keep a watchful eye on all of them. 🙂
HI Joy,
I guess I need to send an email to Charlotte to make sure she is okay… it is odd that she’s been gone for a few days.
The bonnet is all finished and you’ll see it tomorrow. Rebecca has been notified of needing a necklace and she’s looked at the dress. :o)
Yep, gotta keep those little fingers away from the computer… Just be glad it was shoes! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
That is a lovely spencer jacket. I love the Keepers patterns, and I think your version with the peplum is even better. I am anxious to see how the bonnet turns out. I’m glad you could shorten the brim successfully.
I just walked the dogs. It’s another hot, humid day here.
Thank you Carolyn,
I’m glad you like the spencer in the shorter version! Me too! I do like Keepers patterns too. I need to figure out how to do patterns. I don’t have the slightest idea of how to get started!
The bonnet is sweetly decorated and I hope everyone likes it.
It was hot and humid here too… then we finally got some rain this afternoon. I had just finished all the push mowing around all our trees and bushes and bricks and fences! I thought I was going to pass out before I got finished!
Thanks again,
Blessings, Jeanne
Charlotte’s absence is a worry. I hope we hear from her soon and they are both all right.
Your hat is prettier than the one that was part of Caroline’s meet outfit but the large coal scuttle brims appear to have been fashionable then. There seems, however, to have been a quite remarkable variety, including some interesting cloth hats and bonnets, according to my Google search, a lot more than I expected. If you are on Pinterest, look at this https://www.pinterest.com/accessoryqueen1/regency-bonnets-hats/ You always do a great job on hat trimming, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Just don”t copy this one https://teainateacup.wordpress.com/2011/08/01/how-to-make-a-regency-poke-bonnet-in-ten-steps/ though the site looks interesting.
The spencer, especially the back, is as cute and pretty as they come. I look forward to seeing it on Pinterest pages.
Took me a minute to figure out the interesting bonnet in the second one. Ha ha. 🙂
HI Marilyn,
I sent Charlotte an email to check on her… I’m hoping she’s just busy…
Oh, thanks for that Pinterest gallery of bonnets. I have LOTS of ideas to inspire me now!
I read through that second link and had to laugh at her sense of humor with it all.
I’ll have to remember to post it on Pinterest… but somehow I lost all my Pinterest pins… boo hoo! I don’t know what happened. I can always do flickr too! Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m wondering about. Charlotte too. I am so used to her being the first one to comment, so I really notice when I am the first.
Marilyn, that second site is hilarious with the illustrations!
HI again Linda,
I did send an email to Charlotte to make sure she was okay…
The spencer is just lovely with the ruffled peplum. It gives it a very refined and elegant look. Your own creative spin is what makes your outfits so beautiful.
The straw bonnets that Cindy brought to you is exactly what I meant by a bonnet. I don’t know if you have a big enough scrap, as I can’t tell from the pile left. Since we are on the same wavelength I’ll add to Marilyn’s comment.
Here are a couple of sites I found:

It’s supposed to rain this afternoon… maybe a Jane Austin movie and a cat cuddle are in order. Yep, with romantic dresses, bonnets(hats), gloves, and parasols like the other eras I love I think I will have to consider Regency for one or two of one my girls in the future. Caroline for sure to have something to set of her gorgeous eyes.
I pray Charlotte and her husband are alright as well. I hope he didn’t have any complications from the fall. I looked back in the posts and she did comment Tuesday.
I really like the bonnets with the fabric. Lovely.
HI Laura,
I didn’t have any scraps big enough for a bonnet like the ones you sent pictures of, but they sure are beautiful… maybe another bonnet… :o)
I think a Jane Austen movie is just what you need! Along with a kitty cuddle, as you suggested! Sounds wonderful!
I see below you commented again… it must have just been delayed for the first one…
Sorry you wrote it all out again…
Blessings, Jeanne
Ugh My entire comment didn’t post. I have to do it again. The spencer is just beautiful and love the ruffle back detail you gave to it. It makes it look so refined and elegant. Yoru own creative touch to patterns make your creation so lovely.
Since Marilyn and I seem to be on the same wavelength about the bonnet, I’ll post a couple of additional sites I found as my first thought on seeing the straw bonnet you modified was this type
https://itsallfrosting.wordpress.com/2016/05/10/regency-bonnet/Â
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0087/7032/articles/BoxHillBonnetsFromSide_CROPforBLOG_large.jpg?v=1587582512Â I don’t know if you have enough in the scrap pile for the cloth with button back, if not fancy flowers will doll it up just as well.
I pray Charlotte and Ron are alright as well and he didn’t have any complication for the fall. i did look back through the posts and she did post on Tuesday. hopefully, she still be on sometime today.
Scoffs What’s the deal? I come back to see if Charlotte’s been onand now my missing comment is here. Amazing!!
The detailing on the back of the Spencer is lovely. I like the shorter version as a complement to the dress. The longer version tends to look like a coat you would wear outdoors. The shorter one not so much.
I too hope everything is okay with Charlotte and Ron. Hopefully they’re doing something fun and she’ll be back soon.
Thank you Barbara,
I’m glad you like the spencer… I always like the shorter jackets myself… I think we called them Eisenhower jackets…
I hope Charlotte answers my email I sent… just to let us all know she is okay!
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Check this out everyone!

I’m so used to wearing surgical gloves now while shopping that when the COVID ever ends I might just were my vintage collection ones more often. Now I just wear them to church on Easter and Mother’s Day. Maybe I’m crazy, but I would love for hats and parasols to be daily staples as well. i was definitely born too late.
HI Laura,
I watched the video of the kitty and his singing! sweet!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, Jeanne, that Spencer jacket is wonderful! I love the peplum ruffle–perfect!
I’ve been helping hubby today–he is in graduate school (after being laid off) to earn his master’s and his principal certificate. As I am IRL an English professor, I am helping with his citations. In return, he is helping with the garden–we had a cucumber and cherry tomato harvest yesterday, and I am hoping for some big tomatoes today or tomorrow!
Thank you Beth!
I’m glad you like the spencer.. .tomorrow you’ll see the bonnet!
I hope you get your big tomato harvest tomorrow. We got ours yesterday… well, actually both sizes… I’ll have to show a picture…
Blessings, Jeanne
Amazing!
Thank you Halyna,
I’m thrilled that you think my spencer is amazing! That makes my night!
Blessings, Jeanne
Very pretty Jeanne, I wondered if you were going to put a twist on the short spencer. I love what you did with the back. Very pretty. The hat is perfect. In my minds eye I can see it tied on the side with a big bow.
Happy almost Friday!
HI Ingrid,
Yes, it’s almost Friday… a few more hours and it’ll be here!
I’m glad you like how I finished the back of the spencer. Elizabeth does too! ‘The bonnet only ties on one side… sorry! You “almost” got it right! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
