  1. How exciting, Jeanne, a Giveaway! Looks like I’m the first to comment today, unless Charlotte is writing now and gets in first!

Aya is adorable, in that darling little sunsuit! I remember my two youngest sisters wearing outfits like that, and wait a minute, even my own daughter ! I actually made a couple for her, but they weren’t reversible! Those ruffles are done to perfection, Joy!

    Now to answer your questions:

    1. I own 9 American Girl Dolls

    2. No Little Darlings for me, sadly.

    3. I have a 14 inch Betsy McCall, plus several 8 inch Madame Alexander Storybook dolls, and two 8 inch Kewpie dolls. The smaller dolls don’t get their clothes changed like Betsy does.

    4. I like to go from dresses to play clothes and costumes about half and half. Variety is the keyword here!

    5. Yes, I have a sweet tooth for chocolate! What else is there?

    6. I have sewn for my dolls, and did enjoy it, but now, not so much. Maybe if I had more space in which to sew, it would be better.

  2. Susan Heishman

    Wow, what a fun game
    1. I own too many AG dolls.
    2. I am blessed to have three Little Darling Dolls. My wonderful husband gave me two for our 25th anniversary, better than diamonds. We will be celebrating our 30th this summer.
3.I have dumpling dolls, Mae and was blessed to be one of the 30 to get Aya. That would be because my husband is really quick on the computer.
    4. I love dressing my dolls in dresses like little girls.
    5. I do have a sweet tooth for chocolate.
    6. I do sew for my dolls. I was so inspired by your hat making that I have started to make a few hats for them as well. Still can’t figure out how to get the straw to ruffle without the strand breaking.
All of your dresses have been an inspiration to me and my sewing, thank you
    Susan

  3. Good day, Jeanne:)

  5. 1) I can’t remember how many AGs I have without counting them…there are at least 11. Possibly more. Is that bad?!?
    2) No Little Darlings–yet! But someday…
    3) I’ve been a doll collector my entire life so I have hundreds of dolls, antique to modern, many of which fall in the “small category”. Of the newer ones, I love my reproduction Bleuettes, Bitty Bethany Kish, and Natterer Minouche dolls. I could list a whole lot more, but I won’t!
    4) Most of my dolls wear dresses, and I love matching bonnets and little coats!
    5) Dark chocolate, all the way!
    6) I sew for dolls a lot, but lately I’ve also been sewing for my two, sweet granddaughters. So fun to see them twirling around in my creations! I also have an etsy store for my doll clothing.

      1. dotsydoodledollies It’s a little sparse right now, but I’m working on getting more stuff listed!

  6. Doreen Crabtree

    Good Morning Jeanne,
    Such fun reading each comment.
I have AG Julie and two Our Generation Retro dolls.
I do not have any Little Darlings.
My other dolls are Tiny Tears, Mattel My Child, and 8 inch Ginnette baby doll.
All the dolls have both dresses and play clothes. I guess I prefer dresses but love to set them up in scenes for fun and holidays.
I sewed clothes for myself and two daughters. Now the love of sewing is being lavished upon the dolls. Your blog has shown me the power of the details and accessories that make all the difference in each outfit. So you have given me the confidence to add onto each creation until complete, from head to toe.
Blessings back to you Jeanne, love your posts, Doreen

  7. Good Morning Jeanne and all!

I love that outfit Joy made for Aya, so cute. Is there a pattern available online? I would love to make something like that for one of my BJD dolls.

1.) Do you own any American Girl dolls? No, but my daughter’s collection of Life of Faith dolls is in our home. She is college-age now.

2.) Do you own any Dianna Effner Little Darlings dolls? Not anymore, sadly.

3.) Do you own any smaller dolls, and if so who? The smaller dolls I own are Iplehouse BID Byuri and Maskcat’s Gladys (has a Blythe size body).

4.) Do your dolls usually wear dresses or play clothes? Dresses probably a little bit more, but a little bit of both.

5.) Do you have a sweet tooth? for what? Yes, sweetbreads and muffins, cakes. I like Reese’s combination of chocolate and peanut butter.

6.) Do you like to sew for your dolls? Yes, very much.

  8. Well, good morning. A giveaway? I’m game. 🙂
    1. I have lots of AG dolls. Over 10 at last count.
    2. Definitely have the Effner crowd. Little Darlings, Boneka, and three Fashion Friends.
    3. As to smaller dolls, I have a group of Mary Engelbreit Ann Estelle kids, Kish kids, Ginny and Muffie dolls and Betsy McCall from the 50’s as well as Ginnette and her older sister Jill.
A little larger in size dolls are my Natterer dolls, the Maru and Friends kids, A Girl For All Time dolls , and of course the Meadow dolls. Sorry to those not off the top of my head.
    4. The dolls around here wear just about anything that fits. We’re not into fussy much, but love the styles from the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. I do like to have outfits for different holidays and outdoor outfits like swimsuits, camping, hiking, etc. again from the above eras.
    5. I can be easily pleased with a chocolate Hershey bar. (No nuts) I don’t like them in anything. And Mint Milano cookies are always welcome here. 🙂
    6. I love to sew and make props for the dolls around here. Always have something in a pile on the couch to work on.
Thanks for the questions Jeanne. So fun to read everyone’s answers. 🙂

  9. I have followed you for years.
    1. I have 18 plus AG doll, but it is now time to downsize.
    2. Have none of those dolls.
    3. Mostly just AG dolls
4.We just moved to another state so I took all clothes off and they are all naked now on my new shelf .
    5. A good donut covered in DARK chocolate.
6.Before we moved I sewed for them almost everyday, but too many dolls to keep them all Happy. lol

  10. Aya’s dress is perfect. Joy, thanks for sharing.
Doreen, I have a Ginnette too. I got her when I was in 6th grade and always wanted a wardrobe for her. When I found her again when we cleaned out my parents’ house, I collected a wardrobe for her.
    1. I have 14 AGs.
    2. 3LDs
    3. 1 Riley, 2 Ginnys
    4. The AGs have a large and eclectic wardrobe.
    5. Almost everything — chocolate, mint, maple, caramel.
    6. If my hands ever recover, thatypart of the plan.

  11. How fun is this! Hearing from other doll lovers about their collections!
And being able to share, with NO eye rolls! This is a great community you have created, Jeanne! Thank you! Love the little sunsuit, Joy!
    1. Yes, I have Kirsten, who’s story is almost identical to my husband’s family that settled in the same area of Minnesota. And Kit, who was given to me as a retirement present to “play dolls with” the new granddaughter… which we did! Currently, my niece’s Samantha is visiting. The AG dolls joined my special, 21 inch, Sweet Sue doll from 1952, with her complete, now vintage, wardrobe.
    2. Don’t own any of the delightful special order dolls.
    3. Just gave my 1950’s Ginny dolls to the neighbor girl who found a 4 foot tall doll house for free! and needed someone to live in it. I have a few of the 6 ½ AG mini dolls. Thinking ahead to the need to downsize, but they are very small to sew for.
    4. The “big” dolls are usually all dressed in the same time period as they all share clothes. Mostly they are in dresses, but I seem to follow “themes”….. season, holiday, event in my life. They do skip between Pioneer, Sweden, 1930’s and 1950’s.
    5. Dark Chocolate! As Linda D said, “What else is there?” (We really do need to meet!)
    6. Sewing dolls clothes has brought me great joy…. for my young daughters, for my vintage doll who came out of hiding when we were empty nesters, for the granddaughters’ AG dolls (and two wardrobes for the grandsons’ baby dolls). It’s been everything from practical night gowns to Disney Princess dresses! Most recently I made 5 outfits of Swedish national dresses that Jeanne graciously posted. Found some fabric to duplicate a favorite 50’s Christmas dress…. will be looking at your pictures of Molly! with all the very full skirts!
Thanks for the question prompts. Waiting to read about everyone else and their dolls!
    Blessings, Linda G

  12. Joy, your Aya is so cute in her darling outfit. I’m always amazed at how well everyone sews. I never cared for sewing but I respect that talent in other people.

Fun! A contest! I’ll answer your questions, Jeanne:

    1. I have many many American Girl Dolls. I love them and especially love their accessories.

    2. I have no Effner dolls.

    3. I have a small Betsy McCall, maybe 8” tall. My first collection of dolls was the 8” Madam Alexander dolls but I’ve gotten rid of about all of them except 3.

    4. Most of my dolls wear dresses.

    5. I have a weakness for the holiday Reeses’s peanut butter eggs, pumpkins and Christmas trees. I love taffy and Cinnamon bears.

    6. I don’t sew at all, unless a button needs sewn back
    on. Sad, I know. 🥴

Thanks for the game. It’s interesting to hear what others have commented on.

  13. Okay, here are my answers:

    1. No AG dolls

    2. I have 14 Effner Little Darlings, including one bjd

    3. I have lots of other dolls of all sizes… some of those I have that are smaller than LDs are Boneka Tuesday’s child and Thursday’s child, Iplehouse Elin and Bordy, a couple of Kish bjd Bethanies, Ruby Red Galleria Ten Ping, Yu Ping, and GiGi, Kaye Wiggs Tiny Talyssa and Tillie… there must be more, but that’s all I’m seeing at the moment. 🙂

    4. My girls (and all I have are girls, for some reason…) all like pretty dresses

    5. Like most everyone else, I love chocolate, and chocolate chip cookies!

    6. Until recently I didn’t do any sewing except hemming my pants. I took home ec in jr high school, but didn’t really enjoy it. I have done all kinds of other needlework – cross stitch, needlepoint, embroidery, etc. My sister-in-law got a new sewing machine several months ago, and it piqued an interest in me to learn to sew. I bought a pattern designed for my Kaye Wiggs msd dolls, and have since made two cute little outfits that came out pretty good, if I do say so myself! I’ve been looking for a good, fairly easy, pattern for a dress for Little Darlings, but haven’t found one I’d like to attempt yet…

    1. Theresa, I just used a pattern for my LDs named “Princess Anya”. I either got it on Etsy or Pixie Faire. The dress in the picture is a long dress with a shawl-like collar, but I made the simple dress for my 14″ Betsy McCall and my Jane Tonner doll. The dresses are made with the same fabrics but in different colors. They turned out cuter than cute and the pattern was quite simple. It allows for a lot of creativity while remaining simple.

  14. Simple questions but so fun to read the answers. Yes I have AG, mostly for the granddaughters, no real LD’s, but I do have a couple 12” bjd LD’s from Ashton Drake, Ruby Red Ishara (same as Ten Ping), a Girl for All Time, Shoenhut, no Barbie’s but several Monster High’s, for the grands and of course they needed clothes!! Evangeline, Ellowyne. I have all sizes of composition, bisqueheads most naked and in need of repair. I need to seriously figure out how to downsize, (collecting is easy LOL). They wear dresses. Never met a doll I didn’t love.My HTF treat is Planter’s Peanut Bar!
Love Joy’s outfit, the back shows lots of ruffles, are there ruffles on the shorts? A great day to all.

  15. Holy cow! Announce a give away and we all come out of the woodwork! 😂
Aya is the cutest doll. What size is she?
I have 6 AG. I down sized to 3 and then oops!
    No little darlings.
I have 10 inch Anne Estelle and Patsy, a hearts for hearts doll, a couple Corolles, an adorable little just like me Gotz and some berrenger babies.
My dolls wear a variety of clothes that I sew and crochet for them.
Chocolate is my all time fave!

    1. Aya is 15″ and a Meadow doll. She’s about the same size as the Disney Animator dolls.

  16. I agree with Julia, You state a giveaway and suddenly the party huge!
1.) Do you own any American Girl dolls?
Yes, I have 5. There are a PC Samantha, a PC Felicity, Nellie re-wiggted with 33’s wig,
    Caroline, and Marie-Grace

2.) Do you own any Dianna Effner Little Darlings dolls?
    No, but how I wish!

3.) Do you own any smaller dolls, and if so who?
Just my childhood special MA doll, but I don’t typically do anything with her.

4.) Do your dolls usually wear dresses or play clothes?
Dresses, only dresses and I choose the ones with frills, lace and ruffles. The plainest
ones I have are Kit’s birthday dress and her first reporter dress and even those have
some little detail. Of course, Civil war ones are my favorite!

5.) Do you have a sweet tooth? for what?
Organic dark chocolate. My favorite candy bar is Amy’s Crispy Organic candy bar (rice
crisps, almonds, caramel and chocolate. It taste like a $100,000, but organic. YUM!!

6.) Do you like to sew for your dolls?
I love the idea of sewing for my dolls, but I’m not very good at the small scale. I think
it’s because I never find enough time to even practice and I didn’t attempt it until a few
years ago.The other main problem is my
favorite looking patterns are always for intermediate and advanced sewers and they
would probably become an epic fail. I like crafting such as decorating hats and other
    little items for them
    though.

Oh my goodness, Joy, that playsuit is adorable!!! The ruffles, oh the ruffles. Aya looks absolutely darling is that outfit .

  17. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, thanks for this contest. As you can see, we are bubbling with excitement. It is fun to see what dolls we all have.

    Joy’s dress is adorable.

    Here are my answers:

1.) Do you own any American Girl dolls?
I have one American Girl doll, Addy. I have 13 other 18-inch dolls (including two Gotz Happy Kidz and one Kidz and Cats)

2.) Do you own any Dianna Effner Little Darlings dolls?
I have three Little Darlings and four Bonekas.

3.) Do you own any smaller dolls, and if so who?
I have a huge collection of 8-inch Madame Alexander dolls, at least 50.

4.) Do your dolls usually wear dresses or play clothes?
I love to put dresses on my dolls.

5.) Do you have a sweet tooth? for what?
I stay away from candy. My favorite cake is traditional wedding cake: white cake with white icing but no coconut.

6.) Do you like to sew for your dolls?
Alas, I can’t sew. My dolls all get “store bought” (well, etsy really) clothing.

  18. Marti Wulfow Garner

1.) Do you own any American Girl dolls?
    Yes, three.

2.) Do you own any Dianna Effner Little Darlings dolls?
Yes, three, plus other similar 18″ dolls.

3.) Do you own any smaller dolls, and if so who?
I have the 10″ Boneka, Wellie Wishers, Nikki Britt 6″-14″, Meadow Dolls 6″-18, Other BJDS from one inch to 31″

4.) Do your dolls usually wear dresses or play clothes?
It depends on what their plans are for the day. If they are staying in for the day they will wear play clothes, if they are going out to dinner with me, they will normally wear dresses.

5.) Do you have a sweet tooth? for what?
Nestle’s Milky Bar, White Chocolate, Red Velvet Cake, German Chocolate Cake

6.) Do you like to sew for your dolls?
No, I don’t sew, but I do knit and crochet for them. I mostly buy clothes for them from friends or from Etsy.

  19. First I want to say that your post yesterday was a beautiful memorial to your mother. I checked in too late to comment. I loved the pictures of your mom through the years. I have two pictures of my mother with my children in my living room so I can check in with her often.

Joy!!! I love, love, love, the adorable little outfit. Aya Kitty would probably look adorable in anything you make her, but this outfit really shows your skill.

    A giveaway. I’m in.

    1. The only true doll from AG that I have is my Wellie Camille. My 18″ doll is a MA.

    2. I have two Dianna Effner Little Darlings and one on the way from Magalie sometime toward the end of the year. I also recently had a Boneka Tuesday’s Child, Charlotte, join the family.

    3. Smaller dolls. I guess you mean smaller than an 18″ and excluding the Effner dolls. I have a Betsy McCall, Jane Tonner, three 7 1/2″ Heartstring dolls, a 1950s era Ginny and an 8″ Shirley Temple. I also have two of the mini AG dolls, Molly and Samantha. I also have an 8″ Tiny Betsy, a Meadow Dumpling Lolla, a Corolle Les Cheries, a Paola Reina and a MA Lissy.

    4. My dolly children wear anything I make – with no complaints. I love making them pretty dresses, but also love doing more contemporary, fun clothes using all kinds of fabrics and prints. They all have their different tastes (really they do), so some prefer dresses and skirts while others like pants an shorts. They all like cool tops.

    5. Definitely a sweet tooth. Mostly for cake and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups.

    6. I used to sew a lot for myself until my body started changing shape regularly and what fit one month didn’t seem to fit the next. I wanted to sew for my granddaughters but there wasn’t a whole lot of desire from their mothers that I do, so I started collecting dolls to sew for them. Since I love to sew, I have a lot of dolls, and they all want new wearing attire constantly, my sewing needs are well satisfied.

  20. Hi Jeanne.

My mom had dementia for five years before she passed away. I remember her last Valentine’s Day. I was making fruit salad. Mom was very clear when she told me that you add the diced banana just before you’re ready to serve it! She passed away a short 5 weeks later.
I miss my Mom’s hugs, they were the best!

    A questionnaire, how fun!

    1. I have 4 American Girl dolls. Two are Dolls of the Year: Lanie & Grace. I have a Just Like Me – her name is Gwen. And a WellieWisher – Camille.

    2. I have 3 Little Darling dolls: a #1 face mold – Dakota Rose; a #2 face mold – Autumn Sage; and a #3 face mold – Emily Darling.

    3. I do have two Ruby Red Fashion Friends: Sara & a blue-eyed Hannah.

    4. My “girls” prefer dresses. However, the American Girl dolls do have short sets.

    5. I am a dark chocolate chocoholic! Some days, I can’t get enough. That’s when I think a dark chocolate slow drip would be handy!! Dove Dark Promises are my favorite! Russell Stover dark chocolate covered coconuts are a close second!!

    6. I haven’t yet, but would very much like to! Finding just the right pattern(s) is what’s holding me up.

Thank you for this wonderful giveaway!

  21. Oh, my goodness, what a cutie Aya is! And how talented Joy is–I love that playsuit!
    1) I own 4 American Girls, and one is on her way in the mail. Oops!
2.) Do you own any Dianna Effner Little Darlings dolls?
No. (Surprisingly, since I seem to have at least one of everything else!)
3.) Do you own any smaller dolls, and if so who?
Integrity, Vintage Barbie, Hearts for Hearts girls, and more I probably am forgetting.
4.) Do your dolls usually wear dresses or play clothes?
I like realistic looking clothing–play clothes and sundresses.
5.) Do you have a sweet tooth? for what?
    Oh, goodness, yes! Chocolate anything!
6.) Do you like to sew for your dolls?
I used to sew for my “real” dolls–my daughters when they were little. I haven’t sewn for dolls for a while–the most recent thing I sewed was an everyday quilt for my grandson.

  22. First, Joy, that’s the cutest ruffled top I’ve ever seen. Good job. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Nine AG dolls and quite a bit of furniture and accessories.
    2. One Little Darling who looks like my granddaughter
    3. Ten Ping and BJD with red curly hair, Nyssa? My childhood Mary Hoyer doll which was my only doll until my granddaughter was born and she’s now outgrown dolls but apparently I haven’t! Marilyn gave me a small doll I get out for Christmas. The Indian doll from Hearts to Hearts.
    4. They sure have a better wardrobe than I do at this stage of my life!
    5. Chocolate and pralines. Costco has some really good boxes of Belgian chocolates.
    6. Sometimes but I’m into masks right now. I’ve made many different styles including evening gowns for AG girls inspired by a fabric giveaway from Jeanne that just about finished me off, and a kimono for Ten Ping. You may have seen some in Jeanne’s posts. Most unusual were an African outfit for Addy and a sari from the same pattern collection that’s like my Indian daughter-in-law and granddaughter wear on occasion.

  23. Hope I jam not too late to be in included. I have 4 AG Dolls, no smaller dolls. On second thought I have Madam Alexander’s Pinkie and Blue Boy. My dolls wear pretty dresses. I love anything chocolate. I do not sew.
