We celebrated my hubby’s birthday on Sunday so my Saturday was spent cleaning and cooking…but…I did find time to get a few more pieces finished for my girls dresses.
Each girl now has her very own pair of lacy looking thigh highs.
A pair for the blue…
…and a pair for the pink!
Their shoes won’t be included when I list these dresses, but I had to show you how they looked with “Eastery” colors.
Their half slips are made from white dotted tulle and have a dropped yoke so the gathers won’t make the waistline bulky.
Before I left to go to the store yesterday, Nellie and Samantha asked me to look at the store for pink and blue Peeps. I told them, “No promises,” but I’d see if they had any…
There wasn’t a single carton of eggs…
…or toilet paper…
But… Peeps didn’t seem to be a “necessity” right now so I picked some up…
The girls said they wanted to send a package to the winner! Now wasn’t that nice of them?
I’m hoping to get “something” made for their hair and get these up for sale as soon as I can…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love the slips and thigh-highs for the girls! And….Peeps!! Oh, how I LOVE Peeps! I think the girls made a good choice!! I not only buy them for our Easter baskets (yes, after almost 46 years of marriage, I still fix Easter baskets for us!), but I also get the Valentine (hearts), Halloween (ghosts, pumpkins) and Christmas ones (trees, snowmen) for us!!
I already have our Easter candy for this year, including four boxes of Peeps! Two of rabbits, and two of chicks. All different colors, too (yellow, pink, blue and green).
I remember when Peeps first appeared in our Easter baskets. I think I was about 7 or 8 (they started in 1953, when I was 7, but not sure if mom got them that first year or not), and it was instant love!!
I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjbQ7YT2yfg and I have to say–I remembered the vintage box they showed! Yes, I’m old!! LOL
Hi Charlotte,
Oh my goodness, you are brave for buying your Easter candy so early. It would probably be half gone if I did that…
I’m not a big fan of Peeps myself, but that’s what my girl’s wanted me to get.
Thanks for the link…
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, no! You’re telling me I was 12 years old when Peeps first appeared! But I have something serious to share today.
My mother was five years old in 1918 when her family placed her in a convent where she stayed in isolation for at least a year. Parishioners brought food and supplies to the gate. Her grandmother was a nurse and traveled from Cleveland down to St. Louis, working in areas most affected by the flu. My mother didn’t mention this until she was well over 70, the memories being too sad to talk about. Please take this epidemic seriously.
Hi Susette,
I bet it was terrifying to your mom AND grandma too. No wonder your mom took such a long time to share the details with you. Thank you for sharing this bit of your history…to give us pause to be grateful for wha we have today.
Thank you Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
Good morning, Jeanne! How sweet the girls look in their thigh highs and slips! I have one of those Slips for Molly, that I either won or bought from you, and it has held out many a dress for Molly and others.
Those store shelves look like most I have seen too. Such sad times for all of us.
Oh, peeps! Well, they are a bit too sweet for my liking, but I do love the looks of them! I am not doing Easter candy this year, since every time I decide to send Easter candy to my grandchildren, I tend to “sample” it to see if it tastes alright! You don’t want to give bad tasting candy!!
I remember getting peeps in my Easter basket, but I must have been 10 at the time, and back then, they dried up very quickly once they were out of their package, so we’re too hard to eat. They must have improved on the recipe or something, but they still are too sweet for me! I did use them several years ago sitting the bunny peeps in a Twinkie car. Remember those? You had them in the blog that I copied from.
Hi Linda,
I’m like you with the Easter candy being bought so early…it would be all eaten, if I bought it this soon.
I do remember when I showed those peeps in little Twinkie race cars…they were so cute.
Thanks for the sweet compliments on the slips and thigh highs.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I made the Peeps in Twinkie cars last year and sent them in the mail to my grandchildren. Thanks again for posting it. I like Peeps slightly stale, ha, ha.
I guess I have a great deal of self-control around candy! However, put an open bag of Cheetohs within reach….LOL
We all have our weaknesses!!
I really like the slips and especially thigh highs instead of tights. So much easier to get on and off for me. 🙂
Hate to say it, but not a peep lover here. Just give me a Hershey Bar and I’m all set. 🙂
Many of us in CA if over 65, are being asked to isolate at home. Of neighbors, many are in that age bracket. Other person has a dental appointment today for a chipped tooth, and I’m going to pick up a few things, but mainly, we’ll be home. We’ve being careful to sanitize and haven’t encountered any coughing people yet, but there are carriers that aren’t even aware. Not sure how we’ll handle getting necessities if it gets worse. Like Jeanne, TP hoarders have cleaned up around here. Thank you Susette for the 1918, story. So scary right now.
Dear Joy, I am so delighted that you like Hershey Bars. Come to PA and tour the factory and visit the park (after this crazy stuff is over, of course).
Thank you Joy,
I like putting on thigh highs instead of tights too…
I’m a Hershey girl too…or any other kind of chocolate for that matter. :o)
We are doing some home things here…electrical and wood stuff… in Rebecca’s room.
Stay inside and stay safe Joy!
Blessings, Jeanne
Little by little all tHe details are coming together for the twins. Love the thigh highs. Just the right fabric for them. The slips are a necessity of course😄
Peeps are not my fav but a friend of ours LOVES them…but only after they get hard! Too funny…everyone likes something different!
Belated Happy Birthday George!
Hi Kathie,
You birthday wishes for my hubby are spot on! Today is actually his birthday…we had to celebrate yesterday because of the kids work schedules.
Thanks for your compliments on the dresses so far…
Blessings, Jeanne
I love “”peeps” (whatever shape they take) but they are awfully sweet so I can’t eat many. Hubby loves them put in the freezer, but then he forgets he put them there and after awhile they just taste stale so they get thrown out.
Love the thigh highs and am looking forward to seeing the completed outfits.
I went to the store yesterday for the first time in over a week. I had bought toilet paper and other essentials before all this started so I really didn’t need anything and I’m not given to panic. I know what the news media and people on the blog said so I wasn’t surprised at seeing no paper products. But the canned goods aisle was decimated and really weird, so was the laundry soap aisle. And I needed some distilled water because my disease-fighting measure involves sinus rinse and spraying my throat regularly. I do this for my voice, but I also heard a doctor once say that if people couldn’t take a flu shot they should use sinus rinse regularly during flu season. So I do this normally. There was absolutely no water of any kind. I think people are comparing this to preparing for a hurricane. And even then you can still buy toilet paper.
The biggest problem I have with all this right now is the negativity. All doom and gloom and no light at the end of the tunnel even though the end of flu season is upon us and a doctor said the other day that this virus does not like heat and humidity. And I was just wondering why the Coronavirus is being compared to the 1918 Spanish flu which was an extremely virulent form of the flu as well as we didn’t have antibiotics or antivirals back then and people were more ignorant as to cause and effect. They often died of side-effects. My grandmother spoke often of the Spanish flu and how serious it was. But no one is comparing the Coronavirus to the Swine flu of just a few years ago and that was way worse than this but the news media left it alone. And that one affected our young children while this one is not. When kids got sick they just disinfected the classrooms and a few days later the kids went back. I guess I’m just one of those people who only believes half of what I hear and the other half is common sense and what I know to be true, especially when the government and news media are leading the dialog. But that’s just my nature in all things.
I got an e-mail from the Virtual Doll Convention the other day saying how enjoying our dolls can get us through this. I know my dolls are loving it. They think this will give me more time to add to their wardrobes. I haven’t told them yet that some of my time will be taken up minding the grandkids. Which is kind of funny to me because being a senior citizen I’m supposed to be more vulnerable to this virus and here I am having to take care of my grandkids as will other grandparents I’m sure. Solve one problem possibly create another. Definitely a time to put our trust in the Lord. He sees the big picture and will get us through yet another trial. As they say, “This too shall pass.” I for one plan to stay happy and uplifted. It’s good for the immune system. When I feel down I just walk into my sewing room and see all my dolly children and they make me smile.
Hi Barbara,
It seems everyone has a different Peep preference. :o)
I am with you about enjoying time with family, getting things done that seem to be neglected, spending time sewing, AND definitely trusting in the Lord. Fear and worry does you no good…put on some uplifting music, sing outloud, make a list of what you are grateful for and enjoy the ones you are with.
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Whenever I feel a bit down about worldly things, this is my go to verse to restore my spirits. Thought I’d share.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
And lest you need something more to lift your spirits. The candy aisle was in fine fettle yesterday. Many choices. No empty shelves. Okay, I know candy is not the best source of nourishment but it’s good just knowing something has been left behind for others.
Thank you, Barbara , for the Bible verse and general worlds of encouragement.
I , also, tend to believe half of what I hear. I lot of things are just common sense. Before Y2K , I had already figured out how we would cook, keep warm etc. should the electricity go down. Must be my pioneer mindset. Laura means “girl from the country” in some name meanings. I tend to be quite inventive and self- sufficient. Finding ways to stay positive and upbeat. My girl dollies ( vinyl and kitty)and boy dollies (kitty only) make me smile as well. My daughter, on the other hand with her anxiety issues is in a tailspin. 🙁
Thanks Barbara,
That’s a great verse for us ANYTIME!!
And I guess the candy isle is less of a necessity than we think…I’m glad I have no candy in the house…just Peeps…but those are spoken for!
Blessings, Jeanne
The girls look very sweet in the slips and lacy stockings. These outfitsare going to be lovely when finished. Love the look of Peeps, but they are too sweet for me and I don’t care for the taste. I do love chocolate covered marshmallow eggs though Never got Peeps in my Easter basket, I always received jelly beans, mini chocolate eggs, chocolate covered filled eggs with coconut etc. , a few dyed hard boiled eggs and often a wooden German made Easter toy. I have a set of three rabbits somewhere still I hope. I also had a couple of those sugar diorama eggs. Unfortunately, I know those were thrown out. I do have a lovely antique German paper egg that was my great aunt’s.
The only grocery store we have in town is Kroger and they were out of milk, eggs, bread, pet food, and TP on Friday. The Easter candy aisle was pretty full. Chocolate is one food that keeps my spirits up. I tend to stock up when things I buy go on sale, so we have plenty for several weeks at all points in time. I don’t know what food Walmart had left as it’s on the far edge of town and I haven’t been there in a couple of weeks.
One more note on the Peeps. I bought my kitties three Peep bunny toys ( green, yellow, and a bigger pink one with embroidered flowered between the ears. that they are enjoying. I plan to stay cheerful as well- snuggling with my kitties and finding funny movies to watch.
Hi Laura,
Good for you on snuggling with your kitties…
That will certainly keep your spirits lifted…along with plenty of chocolate too! :o)
Thanks so much.
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, I love the “under things.” The girls will definitely be leading the Easter Parade. I love that the Peeps match the outfits. The winning dolls are going to be so happy.
I am still counting down the days until May but it sure feels like Summer is here already. The temperatures have been very warm.
Hi Dorothy,
It’s been chilly here today…no Spring like weather here. It’s only 43 right now and the windchill is in the 30’s.
May is just around the corner and I’m right behind you counting the days!
Thank you,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
I agree with Dorothy, very pretty underthings indeed! Sorry you found the shelves empty at the store. Such nutty things going on right now. People are acting as if it’s the end of the world. Hubby found most of Sams Club empty this morning. Sadly nothing had been restocked as they claimed it would. He did get me diapers and peanut butter! yeah!
I talked to my Mom today, she’s in a panic. All day long she sits and watches events happening concerning the corvid 19. I told her to turn off the news and watch a nice movie. She won’t listen though she’s a wee bit stubborn.
Hoping this finds everyone well.
Hugs
Ingrid
thank you for the verse Barbara
Philippians 4:6-7
It’s pretty crazy out there. We’re a rural community west of Houston. I figured we were good to go with the store stocking thing because the people here do tend to think of others. Problem is when the Houston area ran out of paper products, etc., the populace came out here drained our supplies. I need some distilled water. We have a small grocery store in town here. Maybe that one hasn’t been discovered. Need to check it out.
I really needed to read and re-read that verse today. The fearmongering is off the charts.
Hope you find your water. Barbara!
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Ingrid,
I was talking to a friend s church yesterday and her mother in law is in a panic, wanting to seclude herself inside…all she wanted was 3 canisters of disinfectant wipes and 2 gallons of clrox…didn’t quite understand her thinking if she was going to be at home alone… she didn’t want any of her grandkids to come over…
Hope you get her to watch that move one of these days!
Blessings, Jeanne
