Linda is saving me today… I didn’t spend any time in my sewing room yesterday as I was too busy with phone calls, bills, thank you cards, and more. There wasn’t any time to get Emmie dressed in her dress. She’s still laying on my cutting table in her slip, looking up at the ceiling and dreaming of modeling this set! :o(
BUT… a while back, Linda sent me some pictures of the Botanical Gardens in St. Louis, where she lives. This was her sweet email to me when she sent the pictures. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.
“Greetings, Ladies! Yesterday, Michael and I went to the annual orchid Show at the Missouri Botanical Gardens, and as usual, it was beautiful, and a wonderful way to spend out of the cold, dreary weather we have been having. Just the thing to lift our spirits!
It was a bit hard to get the lighting right, because it was in a glass ceiling building, and the sun was shining, but still was very cold out. I enjoyed the new mannequins that were added and decorated by various individuals and florists, something different this year.
Enjoy!”
We WILL, Linda…thank you!
If you are on a laptop or desktop, you really should click on her pictures… they will enlarge and you can see all the details.
Okay, who is going to guess what’s on those mannequins? Grass, hay, Spanish moss? Looks like a messy craft project… :o)
Thank you again Linda! They are just beautiful and I can see why you and Michael love to go there.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, what wonderful photos! Thanks so much, Linda, for sharing! My favorites were, of course, the close-ups of the orchids, particularly the third-to-last picture, white with purple throats and a touch of lemon inside. SO gorgeous!!
My orchid plant just opened its first blossom for this year, with at least 7 more buds coming! Not as big and spectacular as some of these, but still nice.
Also, did you know the post office now has stamps of wild orchids? They do…and you know I bought some!!
Thank you Jeanne, for showing the pictures, and so glad to help out! And thank you Charlotte, for the kind words. It is just like walking through the rainforest, when you go to the show, and you really learn things about the orchids too, with all the informational videos and signs along the pathways. I guess we spent an hour or so oohing and ahhing , and taking pictures. Luckily we were the first ones in the door, so that provided more opportunities for better pictures.
You should see the gift shop! Rows and rows of orchids for sale, and they looked like they could almost be a show in themselves! Of course, they are very expensive, and do not take to Missouri weather well, so I don’t buy any, just admire them. I am amazed that people can grow them outside!
The weather has been great this past couple of days, so I’m getting “itchy” for spring! Hope springs eternal! I’ll have to check out those stamps, Charlotte!
Oh, gosh, I’d be in trouble in that gift shop, for sure, Linda! Do they have a web site?! (I could be in trouble here! LOL)
I was just going to comment about how great the photos were and how were they taken without someone stepping into them and ruining the view when Linda answered my question. They were the first ones to view the show. The photos are well done and the mannequins covered in moss are a striking addition. What a fantastic orchid show. Thanks Linda and Jeanne.
And I had no idea there were orchid stamps, Charlotte. All we have around here are those Forever ones from Costco. Guess I should brave the post office sometime and pick some up.
I’m still playing with felt and making things for the dollies. Made peeps, a shamrock, and onto some kitties. I’m certainly no expert, but it is fun. Going to try another dress for my big girl but make it a big larger this time. Hope I can finish it by St. Patrick’s Day. š
Gorgeous orchid pictures, Linda! I have an orchid plant I got from my son for Motherās Day. It hasnāt bloomed again since the first spike died off. Iām not sure but maybe some plant food is called for.
Thank you notes are a major task. I hope you have or had some help, Jeanne.
Oh what a beautiful display of orchids in the Botanical Gardens. Clever idea of the wrapping the mannequins with what looks like moss? That wrapping and costumes/hats must have been a lot of work. I canāt imagine putting it all together! The displays certainly must have lots of people coming to enjoy them.
Thank you Jeanne and Linda for sharing the pictures.
I always love Linda’s pictures of the Botanical Gardens. I would really like to experience the one second from the bottom. Thanks Linda for sending them to Jeanne and thanks, Jeanne, for sharing with all of us. Love seeing what others are up to.
Wonderful pictures, Linda! Yes, thatās Spanish moss on the mannequins. What a great idea for displaying orchids. Mine are blooming on the patio along with the Japanese maple trees and jasmine, earlier every year. Even Spanish moss will bloom, much to my surprise when fertilized. My sonās wife, Suemae, does Chinese brush paintings of orchids and California wildflowers. They live in Santa Barbara, the capital of orchid farms in America, where she teaches painting. Thanks again for sharing the wonderful pictures.
Thank you Linda for the wonderful pictures! The Orchids are beautiful and the way they decorated the mannequins was so clever and artistic The building itself is impressive. We were at the Naples Botanical Gardens a few weeks ago and they had a blooming area of Orchids that were growing and had added some potted ones too along with what I guess was a very rare Jade Plant blooming bright Turquoise…that is a color I’ve never seen in a flower. Since you all love Orchids too I’ll send Jeanne some pics in case she need a breather some day. Susette can you show us your DIL’s orchid paintings?
I would love to see that turquoise blooming jade plant. Mine are blooming now, but only in white. š
Iāve sent them to Jeannešš¤
Beautiful pictures, Linda. I agree that going there would be a “breath of spring air”.
The orchids are lovely. The last photo with all the colors is gorgeous. The mannequins are fun and I’ll assume are covered in Spanish moss. I love seeing that dripping from tress in the south, wish we could have it here in Ohio as well. I need to look for the Phalaenopsis or moth orchids that I know are safe for cats. We used to go each year to the Franklin Park Coservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus for the blooms and butterfly show.
Please share you DIL’s orchid paintings, Susette.
I should correct an impression I left. The feathery gray “stuff” hanging down from the trees and decorating the mannequins IS Spanish moss. The mannequins are made of some other kind of dried moss. The hanging moss is the same as that in the trees in the American South. I’ll send some pictures along of Suemae’s painting and Jeanne can use them if she thinks they are appropriate. She also has some beautiful orchid which were given to her by the orchid farm owners when she does Chinese brush painting demonstrations at the open houses. She teaches at Santa Barbara City College.
Dear Jeanne, thanks for sharing these wonderful photos.
Dear Linda, I love that you have “taken” us on your adventure. The photos are lovely.
Thank you all so much for the very kind compliments of the orchid show. Iām so glad you could all ācome along!ā The Missouri Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to visit if you are ever in St.Louis, anytime of the year!
HI Linda,
Before I head off to bed, I wanted to thank you again for the lovely pictures of your day at the gardens. I just knew everyone would love them….and they did!
