For those of you who hadn’t seen the coat and dress I mentioned before, here are a few pictures of it…some in the “works” and some finished…
The dress isn’t finished yet…it still needs to be hemmed and have all those snaps sewn down the back. But I thought I’d show you what I decided to do about the skirt. I added box pleats all the way around and attached them to a slightly shortened bodice.
I hope I can get the lighting right for this set. It’s appearing quite drab to me… It’s the most glorious color of coral corduroy you can imagine…and the lime green in the grosgrain ribbon is very unappealing to me…
Then I attached a pretty grosgrain ribbon in bright pink with the edges finished with dashes of lime green. It’s hard to see very well, but the corduroy coat has little flecks of the same color green.
I also saw a few comments about how tight fitting the ready made, American Girl coats seemed to be when trying to wear a dress underneath….well, this coat has plenty of room in the armhole area. I took a few pictures so you could see how this unlined coat looks on the inside.
Now here’s a good picture of the color of the lime green stitching…
I’ll do my best to get this finished over the weekend…I still haven’t decided which girl might wear it…any suggestions?
Have a wonderful weekend!
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne
Now that I see the first dress you made to go with the coat, I remember it–and remember thinking the coat looked too modern to go with that sweet Victorian dress.
But the new dress you’ve just made is, I think, perfectly suited to go with the coat! The style is simpler, the print fabric is less fussy, and the colors work very well together! Win-win, I would say!!
Hi Charlotte,
When I look back on that dress that I 1st made, it does look kind of Victorian for the style of the coat. I think I’m liking the new pink pleated dress much better.
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
The pink with green accents say SPRING to me. It’s also my favorite color combination. The dress looks like one Melody would wear to church with a hat and gloves. And a hand bag.
Have a great weekend all!
Hi Julia,
I like pink and green color combinations too. I think this would look wonderful on Melody too.
I’m trying to figure out the hat style …I guess I should ask Melody…or look up some hats online…
Thanks Julia,
Blessings, Jeanne
Humm, I do love pink and green together, but for the life of me I don’t see any green in the pink coat, only a dark beige light brown color. Not my monitor, must be my eyes. I love the dress with the ribbon belt and pleats, but the belt doesn’t seem to go with the coat because of the green in the trim. I know several mentioned the coat would be a great bathrobe with a nightie. I like that idea too. My idea is to shorten the coat making it a jacket to wear with the dress and also with jeans. Would be very stylish and show the lovely pleats on the dress. I do like the coat style. Reminds me so much of a white one I had for a long ago Easter. So, that’s my take this morning in crazed isolation.
Sorry to hear that Linda had a very crowded situation during the seniors only shopping time. I haven’t tried it yet, but if this is any indication, maybe the regular times might be better. All of the senior times are first thing in the morning, like 6-8 or 7-9. Pretty early, but then they do want to accommodate everyone. I wish Trader Joe’s would have senior hours, but they have not, yet. Hardware stores are open, so maybe it is time to redecorate. 🙂
You’ll get a laugh out of this, Joy, but I get the impression that I would not have seen the green before I had cataract surgery last year. Seeing colors without the beige cloud of the cataracts was a big surprise. Granted, the little specks of green are really small. Lovely outfit for sure now.
The closest Trader Joe’s here offers seniors priority but allows others in also. Works very well. Lines are separate and they let in five at a time so only 50 people total are in the store at one time.
They are not doing anything for seniors at Trader Joe’s here yet. They are limiting the amount inside so everyone waits in a line outside pretty close together. Nothing like the six feet required.
And I didn’t think about cataracts. I can see the bright green on the pink ribbon perfectly, just not that in the coat. And I do have cataracts, but haven’t bothered me yet. Maybe after all of the mess rights itself, I’ll look into it. Thanks Susette. More worried about bone loss right now though.
Hi Joy,
Well, after I read your comments, I got the coat fabric in the light and scrutinized it. To be totally honest I’m deciding it’s not exactly LIME green, like in the ribbon, but I’d still call it pale lime green. The pink and the coral color of the corduroy makes it appear lime-y to me. I’ve always called it lime green…maybe it’s pale apple green…
The coat pattern does have a shorter version bt I don’t think I’ve ever made it… I think I’ll leave this one long for now and see what happens.
Rebecca got home from the hospital today and wanted to start organizing and weeding ot in the attic. It was a cool morning so that’s what we did…
Thanks Joy

Wow! Is no one here yet. Strange for me to be one of the first. I haven’t been available for a couple days so I’ve got some catching up to do. I spent Thursday and Friday with my grandson, Skyy, and my granddaughter, Jaiden. Those kids are amazing. They’re taking all this in stride and seemed to like the extra time with their Nanna. Thursday we watched “Frozen 2” and “The Greatest Showman”. Both wonderful movies. Yesterday we watched “Jumanji 2”, “Happy Feet” and ” The Mummy”. “The Mummy” was just finishing up around 4 p.mm. when their mother came home. I left shortly after because Hobby Lobby was open and I wanted to go by there. I really didn’t need anything but I bought a few things anyway so they wouldn’t feel they were staying open for nothing.
It was pouring rain on the way to my son’s house yesterday. Sometimes I couldn’t even see the road – which is bad because I-10 for a long way is being widened and the lanes aren’t predictable. It was a bit scary. I got behind a flatbed truck and stayed with him because I could see his lights better than I could see the road. All I kept thinking was what a wonderful day for staying in and sewing it would have been.
With all that is going on with the Coronavirus, I think the thing that bothers me most is how some have a problem with sharing. They’ve been saying from the beginning that some stores would remain open, so why the panic. I have a problem with my Wal-Mart not being stocked property normally, and there is a distribution center in Sealy, but this is all ridiculous. Rows of shelves stripped of goods and it’s taking days to fill them back up again. Then the scavengers come and we’re back to square one. I’m one of those people who get down to my last roll of toilet paper and decide it’s time to replenish. Now I have to think of having another large package available. But only one. I figure by the time I get to that one maybe this whole thing will be over. My daughter-in-law brought me my backup the other day when I was sitting. I told her I’m good for awhile now. Can’t believe people are selling TP on e-bay, especially squares of it.
Before I forget, Joy Ardyn’s dress is absolutely precious. I have that pattern for Dumplings. I made it for my MA Lissy for Valentine’s Day. The way you cut out the pinafore requires a little thinking about placement on the fabric and I totally missed that. The hearts on Lissy’s pinafore go east and west instead of north and south. Will probably remake it at some time. Seeing it drives me crazy, but if I turned the pattern piece the other way, the back looks strange – but I don’t normally look at the back.
I still need to check out the listings for the sweet little dresses. Not being home for two days and doing have-tos in the evenings, I’m behind in a lot of things.
Saw yesterday where tax day is now July 15. Thank Heaven for that. I do ours and still have a lot of prep work to do. I usually do them around this time but unexpected grandkid sitting has thrown me off schedule. I’m hoping all this will end soon and I get some time back. I saw where no new cases are showing up in China and the epicenter in Italy is showing no new cases. Hope that’s the truth and maybe we’re next.
Joy’s reporting of people out in California was really good to hear. Even if people are shouting across the street to each other, it shows we’re a resilient bunch and we’re going to do the best we can to interact with each other. I do find humor in some situations for sure. For example, we keep telling our young people to get off their devices and go out and see people face-to-face. Now we’re emphatically telling them not to. I think they’ll catch onto the latter quicker than the former. I love it.
I love the coat, and the dress is coming along great. I have that pink fabric but haven’t made anything from it yet. Nice to see it made up. Yesterday at Hobby Lobby I found a remnant of that fabric in beige with brown swirls. I bought it. When I got home and saw the pink dress I smiled. I have the ribbon too. The pretty little flowered dress is adorable, but I can’t believe the coat didn’t sell. It’s lovely.
Did my census the other day. I think it was Joy who mentioned how valuable this was to people doing genealogy. I’ve been fortunate to be in contact with a cousin I’ve never met or it was so long ago we don’t remember each other, and her uncle is really into doing the ancestry of my grandmother’s family. She is exactly my age. I have things she needs and she has things I need. My grandmother was her great-aunt and it’s so interesting to see my grandmother from a different perspective. Everyone loved her. I told her I’d be back with her after tax season. Now that I have some of the pressure off, I think I’ll get back with her now so we can get this rolling.
Loved Laura’s idea of the “Survived the TP Crisis” tee shirt.
Yesterday my husband and son’s had an unwelcome experience. I never heard about this but saw on the news when I got home that it was a hoax. Evidently a rumor was spreading that the governor of Texas had declared a total shutdown of the state, including, of course, Houston. They quickly had a press conference that said this was a hoax. The other day one of the A/C people they know said the mayor of Houston had closed down all the A/C supply houses so A/C contractors would not be able to get air conditioners and parts. We thought they were speaking from experience but it was something they heard. We couldn’t imagine why anyone would do this because it’s been really warm here and will be again next week and people, especially if they’re ill, need their A/Cs to work. David and boys get their parts in Katy and both those supply houses were still open. Turns out all that was a hoax too. Things aren’t bad enough, but there’s always someone who needs to make them worse. My menfolk just got word the builder they do work for will have several new houses ready for them this year. That is really good news among so much bad. But we need to get the economy revving again so people can buy the houses.
I think I’m caught up. I was going to mow today but Mother Nature had other ideas so hopefully Monday. The lawn is really bad and definitely overdue for a trim. My poor dog does not like getting her belly wet so she is having a stressful time trying to find a suitable rest room. She always let’s me know how happy she is with me after I tidy things up for her. In the meantime, in desperation, I’ll sew. Oh darn!
Thanks for the dress compliment. Next time I make that pattern, I’m going to make the top two pieces with a shoulder seam. Nothing like the back being sideways. Fortunately, the pinafore is two pieces. 🙂
Hi Barbara,
It sounds like you are enjoying the time with your grandkids and them with you!
I love to go to Hobby Lobby whether I need to OR NOT!! It’s always fun to see what they have all over the store. I loved your idea of buying something just so they’d be happy they were open for you!!!
It’s not quite ime for mowing the grass just yet, but it will be soon. Reuben doesn’t like to get his belly wet either.
I hope you find some time for sewing soon. I was weeding out in my attic with Rebecca this morning and all day until 6:30 tonight. I’m pooped but hope I can muster up enough energy to do something on the dress.
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Lover of all shades of pink I really like this coat and dress. The patterns in the fabric are cheery and bright and full of Spring. The pleated skirt on the dress is just right.
Trying to accomplish something today…I found out I can pitter away a whole day without much trouble.
Stay well everyone🥰
Hi Kathie,
I can while away the hours in my day without much trouble too! I might get something done on the dress tonight… I was working in my attic with Rebecca today. We were trying to get some things done before it gets super hot up there.
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, this is definitely a “pretty in pink” outfit. The special doll who receives it will be very happy.
Thank you Dorothy
I’m glad you like the dress set…and I hope you’re right about someone’s doll loving it!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my goodness, It’s Sunday, Jeanne, and I have yet to comment! I am just fine, just wanted to get going early yesterday, since I have my Easter decorating to do, and finished up my dolls. So many things out and need to be put away. No church today for anybody, so we have live streaming Mass to watch at our regular church time. No need to get all dressed up for that!
Oh, I love the simplicity of the new pink dress! it works so much better with the coat, and the pleats are perfect! Yes, it looks like Melody would love that outfit, but maybe a bit shorter. You can’t go wrong with pink and green for spring!
