HI everyone,
I’m not sure what happened but my blog didn’t appear this morning. The publish button was pushed and it was supposed to have gone on at 1:00a.m. but it didn’t. I hit the scheduled button and it now says it was published 8 hours ago….oh well, I’m not sure what happened but it’s up now…
It’s always the things that don’t show that take the longest to get finished… sewing on snaps, sewing down all the seams under the arms and at the cuffs, and fixing the back of the neck. They are necessary but don’t add any creative element to the dress. However, you can’t sell a dress without doing them…
I did find a pretty vintage hankie with some threadwork that made a wonderful apron for her. It was so dainty I had to use spray starch to give it some body. It was gathered up and sewn to a narrow waistband that ties in the back.
The dress is still unhemmed. I’ll get to that tomorrow.
I tied some blue ribbons at the bottom of her braids. Yep, she definitely needed braids… they make a world of difference.
She found some boots she wanted to wear with this dress.
I may make a slip for this dress… as much as I like pantalettes, I’d really like to see the skirt stand out a little more to show the blue at the sides of the apron.
I’ve been trying to figure out a cap… and maybe a shawl…and maybe a basket of… (mushrooms? apples?) We’ll see…
I was busy, but you just can’t see it… :o)
Check back tomorrow and hopefully you’ll see some more…
Blessings, Jeanne
Interesting, must be because of the non post, but here I am writing first.
Love the braids and crisp apron. Now, the buttons without crisscross ribbons look fine. Kristen’s boot selection is perfect and the wool look socks so authentic. Fun.
I can’t believe it, but with a red flag warning, those controlling the power plan to turn it off to 30 counties in CA early tomorrow morning. So many mixed messages, but it could perhaps be off for up to five days. No phones, no internet, no hair dryer. Boohoo. We’ll see if they change their minds by then. Guess we will need to stock up on propane for the bbq and fill up the car with gas. Gas stations won’t be open either if the power is out.
Might be able to read this tomorrow, but time will tell. 🙂
Oh my goodness Joy!!
I can’t imagine living somewhere where that happens…I hope you aren’t w/o power for 5 days, if it happens…
Thanks for the compliments on Kirsten’s dress…
I hope things work out for everyone there..
Blessings, Jeanne
Now the power is going out at midnight. And the town is going nuts. Gas lines for blocks everywhere and not a bag of ice anywhere.
Fortunately, we gassed up early today and have two tanks of propane for the bbq. But, we will probably lose a lot of food if the power gods can’t turn it back on quickly. And even though they predict wind, right now it is calm. No wind. Low temp in 70’s and humid so they can’t say there are dry conditions. Think they need a new weather director.
So, I won’t be able to read or respond for a few days. Can’t wait to see that dress.
If I texted you, could you use the link to the blog and see it then? Or will you not have phone power?
If you can still do your phone I can email you my phone number…
That’s crummy… so sorry…
Blessings, Jeanne
I don’t know. I don’t use my phone much. But, it is fully charged and we can charge it on the car if needed. And I’ve never texted. Just seems like too hard. I’ve always typed everything and the keys are too small for my fingers. I’ll have to catch up when the power gods turn us back on.
Thanks for the good wishes. Not looking forward to this.
Joy, this would be a wonderful time to visit Pennsylvania (chuckle).
Dear Jeanne, she looks adorable. I love the ribbons on her braids.
I really like the boots. Do you remember when you got them? I would love to get some for my Gotz Happy Kidz dolls. Those girls have really big feet! Their feet are bigger than those of the American Girl dolls.
In answer to your question: I kind of won something at our doll club raffle. Well, I won a set of the mini American Girl dolls. A little while later, an elderly lady came up to me and said that she was hoping that she would win that prize as she really wanted the set. Sooooo, I gave it to her.
I will send you a photo from the tea last Saturday if they are alright. I haven’t looked at the photos yet so I don’t know how they turned out.
Thanks Dorothy,
I’m glad you like the dress.
The boots came from Hobby Lobby a few years ago. They were actually Christmas ornaments. I found them in with all the other ornaments and thought they looked like they would fit the AG dolls. They did and I’ve used them ever since. I love them. I’ve looked for years since then but HL never had them again.
What a sweetie you were to give your Mini dolls to someone else… I hope the Lord blesses you with a big surprise because of your kindness.
I hope some of your pictures turn out so you can share them…
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, here we are! I missed you this morning early, when I usually pop in, and found that you weren’t there. I was wondering for a minute, was it Sunday? Well, no it isn’t and you are finally here!
The dress turned out just darling, and I agree that a petticoat would make the skirt show more on the sides. The hanky is just beautiful, they certainly don’t make them like that anymore!
Her braids look perfect and the little blue bows show them off so well. I am thinking a smallish half hat would look so cute with this outfit, I’ll be checking in tomorrow to see what comes next, and yes, I feel your pain about the little things you have to do that don’t really show. Those are the kind of things that always slow me down.
Hi Linda,
I guess I was too tired last night and missed some little step that gets my blog published…
A slip has been made and now the dress has just the right amount of pouf!!
I had to sew some name labels in some new pajamas and pants for my mom, so I think I’ll just have to show what I finished so far.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m writing late, I know but I have to say, Kirsten just so pretty in it. I love the lace going up the sides of the bodice. And the apron is just beautiful and delicate. I agree that they don’t make hankies like this anymore.
The blue and tan is so smart together. I like it on Kirsten because of her blond braids with the blue ribbons on her braids. A very beautiful outfit, Jeanne.
Joy, I’m thinking of you and hope things don’t get worse. Take care.
Thank you Paula,
I only have a few half pieces of these fancy vintage hankies. I have several small pieces but they would only work for smaller dolls like Bailey, Navi or possibly the Little Darlings.
I’ve made a few dresses for Kirsten using blues and tans/creams and I’m never disappointed.
Thanks for your sweet compliments.
Blessings, Jeanne
You can still buy new embroidered hankies. Amazon has quite a few vendors.
I bought some about 10 years ago from an actual Hanky store, but I can’t remember the name of it and Google couldn’t find it. They were also online, which is how I bought them. Anyway, there seem to be a few on Amazon.
These are pretty

Here’s the search I put in on Amazon.com:

The hanky really “made” her dress Jeanne! Beautiful!! I agree it needs a nice fluffy slip. Can’t wait to see what else sweet Kirstin gets to model!
Love and hugs, Ali
Hi Ali,
I personally like “the hunt” for hankies at antique stores and yard sales/thrift stores.
I guess you can find just about anything on Amazon these days!
Thanks for the links!!
Blessings, Jeanne
I am just seeing this blog now, for the first time; of course, I don’t usually get on the computer during the day at all; since I’m up late, and 2 or 3 hours behind you in time zones, I usually see your blog before I go to bed at night, and am often one of the first to post! I imagine I’ll see your next one shortly!
I vote for the puffy slip, too, but would suggest either muslin or flannel for it, to be more authentic (if that’s the look you’re going for). And probably no lace on it, or else very narrow lace, as those old Swedes were very practical people and didn’t go for a lot of frills! (smile) Not sure if you’ll see this before you get the slip made, though….
I have a couple of hankies similar to what you used for Kirsten’s apron, although mine just have plain rolled hems. I suppose I could use one for an apron for my Kirsten, but I actually do use them as hankies!!
