An update on Kirsten AND Madleine…

I needed to get some name labels sewn in some new pajamas and pants for my mom…and then take them to her, so my day of sewing for Kirsten was limited. I did, however, get her slip made and it holds out her dress wonderfully. If you separate the layers of tulle it will even stand out more.

Since I had very little to share today, I thought I’d show you part of that time consuming part… the snaps down the back of her dirndl…

AND we have an extra special treat from Madleine’s new mom…she sent me a picture of Madleine in her Halloween costume. She’s Little Red Riding Hood, if you couldn’t guess. The dress set was made for Stella Bettie, her Connie Lowe doll, and doesn’t quite fit Madleine, but she said it was close enough.

This is Stella Bettie in the costume…

She said Stella Bettie is the princess at her house! Anyone else have Stella?

Susette sent me a way to see the Great Pacific Airshow at Huntington Beach Pier without being there…type in “Greatpacificairshow.com” and then scroll down to the videos. She said it is the largest airshow in the United States. She also said most of the videos were short, except for the French one… I hope you’ll take a peek…I watched several of them… being an Air Force kid myself… :o)

Thanks Everyone,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

    Hi Jeanne,
I finally saw your yesterday’s blog tonight, and did leave a comment, if you wish to read it.

Glad to see Kirsten has a slip now. And, yes, the snaps do take a lot of time to hand sew. I know, back in 1974, when I got my FIRST Viking machine, they taught us how to sew snaps and buttons on by machine, but I’m a purist, and I really never particularly cared for how they turned out! I would rather take a few extra minutes and sew them on by hand. Much nicer looking, IMO!!

Madeleine looks so cute as Little Red Riding Hood!! I’m glad she’s adjusting well to her new home!!

Which reminds me, I need to get busy and make a Halloween costume for April Eleanor, the AG doll I got a few years ago. She was watching me work on my tote bag tonight, and reminded me that she’s never yet had her OWN Halloween costume! She’s always borrowed from her sisters. So I guess we will have to get some patterns out and see what she wants to be for Halloween!! 😉 (And then hope I can get it done in time!)

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I did catch up on your comments from yesterday…sorry but I’ve already made a tulle slip. A muslin one would have been more authentic but the tulle works better at holding out the dresses…
I’ve tried sewing on buttons with my machine before too…never liked it either…most of the time, they just pulled out if you caught the thread…
You better get something fun made for April Eleanor.. she’ll be holding you to it this year!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Good morning, Jeanne! So nice to see your blog to start my day!
Oh yes, snaps are no fun, at least to me! Somehow, my thread always gets tangled or knotted up when I do them, and it frustrates me no end! You did a wonderful job on Kirsten’s dress, and the slip is the sure thing to hold it out.

Madleine looks just like she stepped out of a storybook picture! She seems to be fitting in well in her new home!

I just wanted to mention that I bought American Girl Melody’s piano and it is one of the nicer things that AG has put out in the past few years. It is just like the upright ones everyone remembers from their childhood. It even plays when you press the keys!
Of course, Molly gets it in her room, since I also took piano lessons, so now she will get the opportunity. If anyone is on the fence about it, it is really a nice piece to have, and so realistic looking.

    1. Hi Linda,
I don’t mind sewing on the snaps, but they do take up time… time I’d rather be sewing!! :o)

You’ll have to send a picture of the piano… I can’t recall what it looks like…I’m sure we’ll see it in your next batch of pictures!! Hope so!
Thanks for letting everyone know how nice it is.
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, Kirsten’s slip is so pretty. I like how the dress is coming together.

Madleine looks very cute as Little Red. She seems to be right at home in her new house. It’s always fun to have new dollies come and stay with us.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I’m glad you like Kirsten’s dress and slip. She feels like a princess in it…

Madleine is happy you like her costume! I hear she’s trying hard to be the “new” princess at her new home! :o)
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. madleine looks wonderfully cute as little red riding hood and kirsten’s new slip is just what her skirt needs. this outfit will be charming with her boots showing, i love these colors for this season/

    1. Thank you Marilyn,
Sometime I’d like to do a series of dresses from storybooks…I actually have a book that shows lots of different ideas…maybe sometime…

I’m glad you are liking Kirstens dirndl…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. So good to see Madeleine again and she looks so cute in her Little Red Riding Hood Halloween costume. She seems very happy in her new home. I love Halloween, but, with the exception of my Build-a-Bear bunny and her small bunny sister, none of my dolly children have Halloween costumes. I have patterns so maybe next year. I’m already scheduled for fall and Christmas this year.

I do not like sewing on snaps at all. Never have and now that I’m older and it’s more difficult to hang onto them, I like it less. My doll clothes are closed with Velcro. If I make something to sell, and if I do it will be something really special, I will then grit my teeth and sew on snaps, but for my girls it’s Velcro all the way – and they prefer it that way. I asked.

Kirsten’s outfit is so sweet. Her slip really adds to the look of the outfit, and her braided hair is perfect. And I love the boots. How funny that they weren’t meant to be worn.

I have to tell you about something I found at our church Fall Festival this past Saturday. It was a miserably hot day outside where I had my booth. Usually I go into the parish hall periodically to get out of the heat, but it was quite warm inside also because the part to fix the parish hall A/C won’t be in for another week. They had huge fans but it was still hot, but I went in anyway to see what booths were in there. I found something most intriguing. There was a woman that had a booth selling doll clothes for 18″ dolls. She makes her outfits totally by hand – and she sells them for $15 an outfit. I only found two for a little more. I wish I had taken pictures. The stitching was impeccable. The clothes were lovely. I bought an outfit for my Gracie since I wanted to support anyone who goes to that much effort to sew. The outfit is multi pieces and totally adorable. I’ll include a picture sometime when I’m sending others.

I mentioned it being unseasonably hot when we were in Colorado. Well if we had stayed another week, we would have seen some snow where we were. Also, last weekend was very hot for our Fall Festival but if it were this weekend (I wish), the temps would be in the 60s to low 70s. At this time of year it’s definitely hard to get the timing right on the weather.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Have you seen my snap tutorial before. There’s no holding onto them when you only buy snaps with center holes in them. They can slide over a straight pin and you don’t have to hold onto them… but if your girls love velcro, go for it…
Good for you buying from a fellow seamstress.
On behalf of someone who used to sell at my doll outfits for $20 each at my Farmers Market for 10 years, I thank you!
We are enjoying a wonderful day here!!
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. No, Jeanne, I have not seen your snap tutorial. Point me too it, and I’ll be forever grateful!!!

        1. HI Barbara,
I’ll add a link to it in tomorrow’s post… you can see it ahead of time if you want by going to my search box just below my “previous Ebay pictures” at the right side bar and typing in snap tutorial. Any post where I’ve mentioned snap tutorial, will bring it up… or you can wait till tomorrow and just click on the link…
          Hope it helps…
          Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Kirsten’s hankie apron is unique with that shaped hem. I have never seen one like that. I’ll have to look through my collection carefully in case I overlooked that detail. It makes her apron extra special.

We are having one more beautiful fall day. Yesterday we 24 mph winds! That wasn’t for gusts! Tomorrow the temps are taking a major dive. By Friday most of the state (Minnesota) to the north could have snow. Tooooooo sooooooon!
I am making cloth pumpkins for fall decorations and they are turning out so cute! 🍁🎃🍂

I am dropping my pseudonym. It’s a hold over from when I first joined some message boards and no one seemed to use real names. I be the real me!

    1. Hi Julia,
I hope you find a fancy hankie in your stash… they are fun to use.
You’ll have to send me pictures of your pumpkins…cloth ones are really popular right now!
Congratulations on just being Julia now!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Just whipping right along on Kirsten’s dress. Trying to figure out how to find the punctuation on my phone. So slow! Power went out at 3:00 this morning. Have no idea as to when it will return. No problem reading the blog though. 🙂

    1. Oh good! I was missing you this morning!!!
I’m just heading to my sewing room to see what else I can get done on Kirstens set! It’s such a pretty day here, I’d LOVE to take her pictures outside…
      Take care Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I just looked at my e-mail and guess what???!!!!! I received my invoice for the final payment for Lolla! I am so excited!!!!!!!

  9. I remember seeing your snap tutorial and I must watch it again. Yours look so tidy. Mine are like Linda’s I always get the thread knotted too. That dress is going to be a favorite…I can tell already.
    At a
Doll Event in Sioux Falls last Saturday we were each given a Hankie Doll. Members of the Doll Club donated 50 hankies that were all laundered and whitened and one member made us each a Doll. She said they were made years ago for little girls to take to Church. They could play with them quietly and if dropped were silent . How cute is that?

    1. HI Kathie,
I’ll add a link in tomorrow’s post for that snap tutorial… hope it helps you too.
I’ve heard of those sweet little “church dolls” that were made to be silent if they fell to the floor… You’ll have to send me a picture of the one you received… how sweet was that!
Thanks Kathie…. for your compliments on Kirsten’s dress. I thought I was all finished, but I have to figure out her accessory… hmmm…what will it be???
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Thank you for sharing my two girls on your blog! 🙂 Sweet Madleine is a bit quiet so far, but fitting in well. Both went to the fashion doll club meet this past Sat. She and Stella Bettie had a great time. 🙂

    1. HI Melody,
Thank YOU for the pictures you shared with me. I know everyone enjoyed seeing your girls dressed up. I’m glad Madleine is doing well with her new sister… and mommy! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne
