Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes yesterday. Cataract surgery is SO common and everyone says, “Oh, it’s a piece of cake, easy peasy, and you’ll be fine” but when it’s your turn to get up on that table, and they do all those measurements and mark on your forehead which eye they are going to do, and ask you for the fourteenth time what is your name and what are you having done, it can get your heart beating just a little bit faster.
Well, one eye is behind me now and the other eye will be done on November 8th.
Everything seems to be fine so far. They punched the lens out of my glasses on the eye that I had surgery on, but when I put my glasses on, my other eye isn’t focusing right because my corrected eye is throwing things off. I can see to write my blog post on my phone because I can hold my phone close, but writing at my desktop isn’t clear right now. They told me my eyes are very dilated and will get better as the week goes by. I hope so, Noel hopes so and I know you hope so…
I thought I could come home today and do some sewing, but instead, I came home and slept for 5 hours.
Rebecca just came in from work and Reuben was there to greet her at the door. She saw me sitting in the chair Reuben likes to jump up in…and said, “Aye, Reuben, there’s a pirate in your chair!” :o)
Here’s a scary picture to leave with you…
Maybe I’ll be able to sew tomorrow…I certainly won’t be driving anywhere!
Blessings, Jeanne
Gee, *I* didn’t get one of those fancy patches to wear!!! I think I had a patch that I had to wear when I slept, for the first few nights. If I remember right, it was a lightweight,
pierced metal one with a blue silicone (I think) flange around it.
I’m glad to hear it all went well. I looked back in my writings, and the first couple of days post cataract surgery my eyelids were kind of swollen, and my operated eye felt scratchy (best way I can describe it), but….I Did sew a little tiny bit that first day! I think I also took two or three naps, totaling about your 5 hours–no surprise, really, because, easy or not, any surgery is a stress on the body, and you need that rest to heal.
So….don’t worry if you aren’t seeing very well at the moment; eventually your vision will stabilize, then it’ll be time for the second one, and after that, things will improve a great deal! I think it took about a month after the second one for my eyes to be stable enough to get a new lens prescription. Until then, I made do with an older pair of glasses (tried contacts for a while years ago, didn’t like them) and readers.
Just rest and mend!!
Hi Charlotte,
I guess they’ve changed up their patches…I thought it was going to be a black patch …until I woke up with this see through one.
It’s not too bad…I can still navigate around my house fairly well… my eye is slowly becoming less dilated but there is still no way I can see to drive.
Rebecca just said if I get a black patch she’ll take me out on Thursday! My hubby said he’s going to be Frankenstein and I can be the bride of Frankenstein…oh lovely!!
I am taking it easy…
thank you Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
At first I was wondering, “where is the patch’? Then I see it is a clear piece of plastic with holes! Mostly I just saw the tape! I was thinking it would be a solid, black patch like a pirate would wear, but I see that times have changed!!
You came through with flying colors, Jeanne, and after going through the first one, the second one WILL be a piece of cake! Since I haven’t yet had to have cataract surgery, I will be watching how you recuperate in the event I will have it eventually! Just rest, and heal, sewing can wait!
Hi Linda,
Things are SO bright now, I’d have the left eye done tomorrow if I could! I guess I’ve been taking it easy…I did some dishes today
.. but something happened as I was looking out the window and then looking down at my sink…about halfway through, I got kind of nauseous and had to go lay down…I don’t know exactly what happened, but after I laid there for a bit, I felt okay. Maybe it was too much movement for my eyes… I’m okay now…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Good for you, dear Jeanne. Yes, surgery can be unsettling, but you are going to be so awfully glad you did this. Now, just be a model patient. Sending a hug.
Hello Miss Sally,
I AM being a model patient…and I’m SO happy the day finally came to have it done. I am very pleased so far..
No floaters and everything is so much brighter…I love it!!
Thank you Sally,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh lucky you. Everyone I know that has had the surgery has been happy with the result.
My eyes are driving me crazy, but I guess I will have to keep waiting
Just rest your eyes and play with your girls. Calm happy things today
Hi Rosemary,
When and if you ever have surgery on YOUR eyes, come back and read this post and know everything will be alright! Plus you’ll get a good laugh too!
Thanks Rosemary
Blessings, Jeanne
So glad you had the surgery. It’s the conscious sedation wearing off that makes you sleepy. Give in to it as part of your recovery and don’t worry about sewing for a day! Still waiting for you to see colors differently. Surely it wasn’t just me who had this experience. My glasses were totally useless, too. I can have the lenses replaced to accommodate for some distance blurring but reading is perfect for all print sizes, even very tiny.
I wonder if Joy could post the city she lives in or near so we could follow the weather there and the fire reports. Maybe you could give us a clue, Jeanne. We’re missing her Comments.
Susette, I’m answering you first… because YES I’M SEEING things so brightly, it’s incredible…my first thing I noticed was the toilet paper this morning…with the eye just fixed, it looked like neon white almost and with my left eye it looked off white…I kept putting my hand over each eye…it was wonderful..then I noticed no floaters when I looked up at the ceiling.
I’m ready for the other eye to be done!
Thanks Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi again Susette,
Joy lives in Santa Rosa, CA…just wanted to let you know…

Too hilarious! Do you give lessons on pirate speak?
Hi Julua,
I LOVED your comments today!! You are too funny and I never expected anything like that! It was so funny, I shared it with Rebecca when she got home tonight.
Thanks for the laughs…
Blessings ,Jeanne
…
Oh, oh. Pirate talk puts one in moderation!
I had a busy day yesterday and didn’t check the blog until late. I loved all the pictures of Linda’s girls in their Halloween attire. My girls are really bummed. They have no Halloween costumes. I told them we’ll try for next year. This year we’re concentrating on Christmas. I really love the dining set.
What a clever cap Susette did! And the attention to detail… Amazing!
I was praying for you, Jeanne. I’ve never had cataract surgery but I have had two eye surgeries. One when I was about 7 to correct a weak muscle (my right eye turned out), and then again when I was about 22 to redo the earlier surgery with more modern techniques. I barely remember the one when I was young, but I do remember the one when I was older. My eyeball looked like someone had taken it out and bounced it around on the floor a few times and then put it back. I had a patch over my eye and had one of the women I worked with who lived nearby drive me back and forth to work. Mostly I remember having the patch removed and having trouble walking for a few days until my eyes adjusted to working together again. I tore up a few pair of hose walking into things.
Take care and rest as much as possible. One thing I’ve discovered is that sewing can and will wait. Gives you something to look forward to. I’ve finally decided on the dress fabric for Lolla Rose’s Christmas dress. It will be green, but a deep forest green with tiny gold shiny dots, and a gold organza pinafore with some kind of embellishment. It will be perfect for any occasion.
Hi Barbara,
Tell your girls my girls are getting no costumes this year either… it probably won’t help, but you can try…
I’ve bumped into a few things today myself
..it’s hard to get your bearings when you can’t see things clearly.
Maybe I could look through my fabrics and figure out which ones I plan on using this Christmas…just a thought.
Thanks Barbara
Blessings, Jeanne
I’ll try my hand at pirate speak as well. Ahoy, matey!
So glad th’ surgery went well Ye needs t’ rest ‘n loot it east. Th’ doll sewin’for the lusty vinyl lassies can certainly wait. Be a good lass ‘n watch TV instead. let yer ol’ mate ‘n daughter wait on ye hand ‘n foot No swabbin the deck for yo.
Not as good as Julia’s, but worth the try.
I’m concerned about Joy as well. The CA fires are just terrible. I wonder if she needed to evacuate.
Laura, did your pirate speak get put in moderation? I think “the lusty vinyl lassies” wins, hands down! 😂😆😄
Hi Laura,
Wow…two pirate comments today. I loved yours too… I think the Lustu Vinyl Lassies was so funny! I see Julia even thought so too! You BOTH win hands down from me!!
I am trying to be good and watch TV but it’s kind of blurry. I can make out some of the faces but I’m mostly just listening.
Joy lives in Santa Rosa if you were wondering…
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love learning languages but you and Julia have got me on this one. I wouldn’t know where to begin.
HI Barbara,
I’m glad to know I wasn’t the only who really enjoyed their comments! :o)
blessings, Jeanne
Not scary at all Jeanne! I’m just happy to hear things went well and you could home and take a nap. I would also like to know where in California Joy lives. I think of her when I see the news reports on the national news. I hope all is well!
Hi Carolyn,
Joy lives in Santa Rosa…since you asked. I haven’t heard from her for a few days.
I’m doing very well… can’t see clearly with both my eyes, but I’m doing very well…
Thanks Carolyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
