This morning when I got up, my hubby somehow sweet-talked me into helping him on one of his jobs. He’s been working on this widow’s house trying to help her get it ready to sell. He said it wouldn’t take too long (he didn’t think) as it was just a pantry that needed a new floor…a peel and stick floor. I thought “surely” I’ll be home in about an hour or so. He said it was small… about 4 x 6 feet.
Well, 3 hours later, I was on my way home…soaking wet…and sore from scooting around on the floor. AND… I didn’t even get a picture of it, so you can’t even see it… boo hoo! It had all these edges right at the facing area where the door closes that had to be “fussy cut” I guess you’d call it. The inside wall wasn’t perpendicular with where the door closed. Needless to say, it took longer. It was easier for me to scoot around on the floor than it was for my hubby. (I did mention to him that I thought we had discussed “Dr. A’s” house being the last “project” we were going to do!) He said, with his head down, “I know, I know” but somehow he ended up saying yes to this lady. (oh, did I tell you Dr. A’s house sold?…about 2 months ago… I think I forgot to tell you.)
Anyway, moving right along… Somehow I hurt my right thumb… and it’s very hard to sew without using my thumb…so I don’t have much to show you… sewing wise.
I had made these pants to go with Lian’s top and when I asked Rebecca about them she said they looked “fine, for Aladdin!” Well, I stewed over that and every time I looked at them I just kept hearing her words. I really didn’t want them to be Aladdin pants, so I started to take them apart…
Here they are back on Lian, with the applique already taken off, but just stuck on the pants…
See what Rebecca means? Aladdin pants!
So I thought I would shorten them… when I did that they looked really goofy…I didn’t even take a picture of them.
So I started over…and this is what I ended up with…
I think they are better…
I have a few other pieces I wanted to add to this, but my thumb was hurting too much so I had to call it quits with only this to show you…
I hope a good night’s sleep will help my thumb!
Thanks for all your sweet comments yesterday!
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne
This is exactly what I was thinking you should do, Jeanne, and it is just perfect! So what do you call them, bloomers? I can see what Rebecca meant by Aladdin pants, yes, I guess they were much too full and long. I love the black and white check, such a cute contrast for the cherry fabric top!
I don’t know what else you have up your sleeve, and certainly hope that your thumb is better today! I am envisioning a little cap, with a ruffle around the end of it, and maybe the ruffle could be of one of the contrasting fabrics. I’m not very good at explaining it, but you are the sewer, so you get to decide!
Oh gosh, working inside a small pantry, and I bet no air conditioning! Not a fun project, I can tell! I can see how you came home soaking wet!! Take care, and restthis weekend, Jeanne!
HI Linda,
I’m glad you like the new britches… I’ll have to see what I should call them… I’m guessing bloomers?
My thumb was better today and I did some more sewing on this set… I’ll keep it a secret what I was working on, but I think you’ll like it!
Well, I tried to sleep in today, but I got a call early this morning from the place where momma lives now. They were taking her to the ER, thinking she might have a blood clot in her leg. Sure enough she did… so she’s now on a blood thinner… and has to be careful of not falling or cutting herself…ugh! But they’ll keep a close eye on her…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings to you, Jeanne
Not to be cruel, but I’ll bet Lian is thanking the stars that Rebecca called the pants Aladdin! The new version is much more flattering although, I was still hoping for white rolled cuff short shorts. Bad me. 🙂 And I could see that style of balloon pants with a crop top for another summer outfit. Maybe to wear to a barbecue or summer get together.
Another project completed and an injury to boot. Hope your thumb heals quickly because you are right, we’re pretty hopeless without it’s use.
Another earthquake in southern CA last evening. They are still trying to accurately measure, but sounds like 6.9 or 7.0 which is a biggie. It was a follow up to the first and was predicted by the seismologists. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly yet when one will arrive, like Tuesday at 5:00, but they can give a few minutes warning which is progress. Rockin and rollin here.
Hi Joy,
I’m glad I asked Rebecca and she gave me an honest opinion. I think I knew something was wrong before I even asked her. I’m still not done yet with the pieces for this set, but have a couple new pieces made… :o)
My thumb is better… not perfect yet, but at least I can manage some sewing… :o) :o)
I hope you guys are safe out there in CA. I heard some people were afraid to go back in their houses so they were sleeping in the yards…
Please be careful and stay as safe as you can…
I don’t see Susette in the comments…hope she is okay…
Blessings, Jeanne
Version two is waaaayyy cuter than the long full ones. I think Lian even has a bigger smile!
Joy’s idea of shorts with a white band is cute too.
Did you get any damage Joy? The videos on the news were so frightening. It has to keep you on edge.
Good ole Epson salts soak will help your thumb…do it several times today. Now you have an excuse to grab a book you have been wanting to read🤗 Hope it heals quickly!(Hugs)
Didn’t even feel it up here. We’re way north Ridgecrest, above SF. But, you never know when we too may get a biggie.
HI Kathie,
I’m glad you like the new and improved version of the pants/capris/whatever. Maybe I’ll call them Mini Aladdin’s!
I’ve made a few more pieces and just might make those white shorts as another piece.
No time for a book today… taking advantage of some sewing time…. my thumb was better… but the Epson soak sounds wonderful…
Thanks Kathie,
Blessing, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, I hope your thumb is better today. If it isn’t, you will have to ask your hubby to help you in the sewing room (chuckle).
I echo Joy and send prayers for our family and friends in CA.
Have you heard from Sarah and her family? Are they home yet? My prayers continue for them also.
HI Dorothy in PA and the World!
My thumb is better today… enough to so some sewing… :o)
I have heard from Alba and her family… She’s having kind of a hard time adjusting to life back in Columbia. They had SO many friends here and I think that is what she’s missing so much! She said it’s harder than what she thought it would be…
Sara starts school in about 2 weeks, I think.
Thanks for thinking of them… I’ll be sure and tell her you asked about them…
Blessings, Jeanne
I am so sorry about your thumb. I cut mine on a can I was cleaning for recycling a few days ago and I had a constant reminder for days every time I tried to do anything. Hope yours is better soon.
You’re obviously way younger than me. These days I yell for my son every time there is any crawling around to do. Our under sink filtration system arrived today so I imagine I will be having him out here some day soon, for obvious reasons.
I’ve been keeping an eye on the happenings in California and praying for the best. I took Geology courses in college and seismology was my favorite part. Life intervened and I didn’t get to finish or I might have gone that route.
I am definitely the odd bodkin on this blog. While I love Lian’s “new” pants, I thought the “old” ones were cute too. I guess I’m okay with Aladdin pants. Maybe part of a future “party pants” outfit.
Hi Barbara,
It’s going to take more than a hurt thumb to keep me from sewing… It is better today…still noticeable, but manageable.
I’m not sure I’m “that” much younger than you… I’ll be 63 next month… yikes! I was really feeling it in my hips today… kind of like a bruised behind… oh brother!
Maybe she just needed some shoes on with the Aladdin pants…but they are no more… I cut them up and made the shorter version out of them… plus I did get some more sewing done today… took me a while, but I got some new pieces added to it.
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m so glad to see Barbara’s comment because I like the Aladdin pants too. I love the way they go with the blouse. I’d still like to see the white skirt that someone suggested the other day, and a cute purse and a red bow for Lian’s dark hair.
My dad was a little like George — he could fix nearly anything, but if he needed help, the only person he really trusted to do it right was my mother.
What a rain we had last night, complete with some hail. I imagine it’s the sort that Linda in St. Louis sees more often — we do get them 2 or 3 times a summer — very impressive but not nice to be out in. Speaking of Linda, when she started describing a cap, I thought it was for your thumb, to keep it out of trouble. I must be more tired than I think.
HI Marilyn,
I’ll have to try another time on the Aladdin pants…but these were cut up to make the shorter version… sorry!
I was playing around with what other pieces to make for this set. I got a few made but want to make a few more… make it a REAL mix and match set!
George and I make a pretty good team… I do have to admit to that! :o)
I hope you are in bed and read this in the morning… :o) You MIGHT need sleep more than I do. Your comment made me laugh!
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne
Maybe if you do Aladdin pants again, Jeanne, you could use a drapier fabric; then they wouldn’t seem so “balloon-y”! Think “I dream of Jeannie!”–harem pants! Only more cute, less sexy. for younger “girls”…..
