I intentionally cut the head off this doll (by cropping my photo) :o) to keep her a mystery one more day…maybe you have an idea who this is that’s modeling for us today.
I made a little bit of headway on this next patriotic dress and have the basic bodice finished and the skirt has neen gathered up but just pinned around her waist.
I used one of my favorite embroidered eyelet fabrics. It is very pretty and goes with just about anything.
The back has no snaps on it, so it’s not pulled up correctly and looks a little bit crooked right now…
There will be a belt made from the blue fabric to tie around the waist. It won’t be that wide… just so you know!
Here’s a close up of the fabric, which, on my monitor looks exactly like it does in person.
Does this dress look familiar to anyone?
I “may” have made one or two like this once before. I always liked it and decided to make it again.
Well, this is short but sweet…Have a wonderful Friday!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings,Jeanne
I definitely remember those fabrics, Jeanne, although I can’t, offhand, recall for whom you made the dress(es). I’m thinking you did a sort of “twin” look, with one dress using the red fabric, and the other, the blue?
At a guess, I’d say it’s for Molly, since she represents 1944 and has a lot of patriotic themes in her stories. (I know, they don’t make Molly any more, but….) Or, it might be Kit, I suppose, but I don’t know that you have her at this time.
It’ll be fun to see if I’m right!
My first guess is,…. right off the bat,…. Molly! The sleeves have a distinct 40’s look to them, and I should know something about that! I do remember the fabric, not really the dress, but I can pretty much say it’s for Molly. You could put this dress on any doll it fits, but this dress is one that fits Molly the best!
Molly has the most patriotic stories considering her time, 1944, and wasn’t it something to see all the ceremonies yesterday celebrating the D-Day invasion? Seeing all the old films about the day itself, gives me a new appreciation for the men who participated, since I was too young to know much at that time, like most of us were, if we were here sat al!. It certainly was a turbulent time in the history of our country, but it ended well.
Charlotte is right — of course you know that. You made sister dresses that work for July 4 or for Bastille Day. My goddaughter owns them, complete with flags and bracelets, all beautifully packed to make a great impression when opened. She has Isabelle and Josefina, who sort of match the blonde and brunette dolls that modeled them. Bella has Grace’s pastry cart and two Vespas so her dolls can deliver pastries in Paris after they celebrate with fireworks here.
Nice memories. Many thanks.
The Fourth of July dresses will be fine for Bastille Day in France where fireworks are a part of their celebrations on July 14th! So they are multinational dresses. One of my great-grandmothers was so proud that my mother was born on Bastille Day, although she was Swiss and lived in Paris at one time.
It looks like something for Molly, so I will go with her. Looks very pretty so far. 😀
I’ve never seen eyelet fabric like that. Lovely. I definitely recognize the fabric. Sweet. But, without the help of your readers would not even have a guess as to which AG may be wearing the dress.
On to the fourth week of the sew along. This week it’s a 40’s cape. Had to take yet another trip to Joann’s. Big sales which are always fun. Fat quarters were 75 cents. 🙂 Have to stay away from there.
We’re going to get very hot this weekend. May have to drive out to the coast to cool off. Hope your weekend is stress free.
For anyone interested, the weather I mentioned above is for northern CA, 60 miles north of SF, inland from the coast 20 miles. We’re inland coastal and can get hot weather in the summer, but only for a few days at a time, and then the marine influence sends in the fog which cools us down. We don’t have air conditioning just a fan or two that we only need occasionally. 🙂
I’ve seen the weather reports by your readers for a long time now. Here’s the situation in one small part of Southern California. I live about ten miles back from the Ocean in Orange County. We have had May Gray and now June Gloom almost all day every day for months instead of it clearing up by noon. There are all ten climatic zones between the ocean and the mountains which are 80 miles inland. Where I live the climate is like the orchid-growing, mountainous regions of Thailand, this from the head of the Orchid Society of Orange County. I had a flat tire one time years ago and came to a stop in front of his house, the backyard of which was full of orchid plants grown outdoors. The temperature has been hard put to get above 70 for months, which saves on air-conditioning bills but makes it very gloomy here.
This has been a very unusual year but we don’t have the floods that are plaguing so many regions of the country, so this is not a complaint. I may ask readers to say where they live when posting comments about the weather so old and new readers will be clued in.
I vote for Molly, too. She’s from the WWII Era when the amazing war effort was undertaken and her father was a doctor, serving in England.
I would have said Molly too because of the history of that era. D-Day was 2 1/2 years before I was born but we learned a lot of history (both U.S. and World) when I was going to school so I’m very familiar with the era. My mother was an Army nurse, but she didn’t talk much about the era. My neighbors when I was growing up all served, but they didn’t talk much about it either. Thankfully the schools did. I bought the “Learn our History” series for my grandchildren so they will know too, since it seems that it is not being taught in schools anymore, and precious little when my kids were growing up. I wish this series would have existed then.
As for weather in southeast Texas (Houston area), after days of promising we finally got rain, and, as usual, when it rains it pours. We were supposed to get 4″ to 6″ from early morning until noon a couple days ago. When David checked the rain gauge, which only goes to 6″, it was overflowing. Then yesterday we had another big storm go through that dumped a bunch of rain in about three hours. Thankfully we didn’t get the wind and hail that some areas south of Houston got. This all came from the weather in Mexico. Today and through the weekend it will be hot and humid with Sunday being 98 degrees. But then a big change. We are actually getting a winter-time front through next week that will lower our humidity a bunch and our highs will be 90 or below with nighttime temps in the 60s or low 70s. Those temps are lovely when there is little humidity. Highly unusual for this time of year. This will last most of the week. We appreciate whatever we can get.
How did the sewing room clean-up go, Jeanne? Mine looks like a cyclone hit it again, but it’s mostly because there is a lot of stuff in there. But I think I’m finally getting some things around here under control, so I can devote more hours to sewing and reduce some of the raw materials. Last summer I had the grandkids two or more days a week and didn’t get much sewing done. They wore me out on the days I had them and the days I didn’t I rested up for the next day I’d have them. Oh to have their energy! This summer their school district is doing a summer day camp. Their mom drops them off before she goes to work and picks them up after. They can’t afford daycare and the cost of doing this is pretty amazing. I am helping out on the days there is no camp, July 4, 5, and during August after the camp ends until school starts. This is their first week so I’m looking forward to seeing them Sunday and see how it went.
I need to send a picture of the small blanket I brought back from the dead for my granddaughter. My first thought when she handed it to me was for her to kiss it good-bye and put it in the trash, but it means something to her, so I fixed it and prettied it up. Her eyes lit up when she saw it so it was definitely worth my time.
Well, what do you know… you all got it right. The new dress is for Molly. She was thrilled and looks very pretty in her new Patriotic dress. I called her set, “Patriotic Pride.” We tried some outside pics again, but it was too cloudy and it made my white fabric look like it was glowing. It was hard to pick up an definition in the embroidery.
Oh well, it’s listed on Ebay now and you can see if if you go back to my post for today and click on her picture at the top right.
I hope you like her dress… and slip set.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your weather, wherever you are and whatever it’s doing in your area.
Bye, and many blessings to my faithful readers,
~ Jeanne
