I can hardly believe it myself. It’s almost a miracle! I finished Ten Ping’s new Easter dress in record time and it’s as cute as a button on her. Charlotte was right in picking pink for her. Now if my camera had totally cooperated it would have been better but I did take quite a few pictures (72 to be exact) and the ones I have to show you are the better of the lot. When a doll is close to the table, and my lights are up higher, it’s hard to get her face to brighten up. I did manage to get some of her face that are pretty good by setting my lights pretty close to her. I wondered about my light tent, but I had so much junk laying around, I didn’t have room to set it up. One of these days… I’m going to get this sewing studio of mine straightened up and use it all the time! :o)
Okay, so let’s see some pictures, what do you say?
I finished her sleeves with the tiniest cuff and even added a tiny French knot and some leaves. All of my zoomed in pictures of them didn’t turn out but you can see them if you look at some of the other pictures.
I also added a bit of handwork on the front applique. That is the tiniest little thing and looks so sweet but not overpowering.
Her skirt is full and has batiste lace at the hem and a bit of heirloom lace just above the hem.
The back closes with tiny pink buttons covering snaps.
She wanted a pair of pantalettes so I decorated them with a bit of lace as well.
I thought she might want a hat, but she wanted a hair bow and it’s sewn to a piece of 1/8″ black elastic that slips over her head and you can position it however you like. I left her hair down but brushed the mohair wig so it’s a bit less poufy!
Included in the listing will be 2 little bunny figurines I found. They are adorable and fit well in Ten Ping’s hands. She’s trying to think of a name for them.
Well, I hope you love it! Ten Ping does! Charlotte? Do you?
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, yes, Jeanne, it’s wonderful! I love the laces you added to her dress, and the pantalettes are nice for modesty (sometimes little girls play, forgetting they have dresses on!! LOL). The touches of embroidery are just right.
I think her rabbits might be Flopsy and Mopsy (Flopsy being the one with the floppy ear, of course), from The Tale of Peter Rabbit (they are two of his triplet sisters, the third being Cottontail) by Beatrix Potter. You can see them here: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/14838/14838-h/14838-h.htm (Not sure if that link will show up in my message or not, or if you want it included.)
You’re right about modesty and little girls. My granddaughter is seven and she still wears bike shorts under her dresses. I bought her ones in every color I could find so she could match her dresses. Everyone wondered why that mattered. For me it just does. I was thinking of Flopsy and Mopsy too. How funny.
Hi Charlotte,
I thought you’d like it!! I also decided to name the bunnies Flopsy and Mopsy as you suggested!!
Thanks so much!!!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh yes, I like it too, Jeanne! Such a sweet little dress that makes Ten Ping look like a pretty little Easter princess! I hardly recognized her with her hair brushed out, having no idea she had such long hair!
The pretty applique on the bodice is just perfectly sized and gives the dress an extra bit of fanciness without being too busy looking. I have to remember Ten Ping is so tiny, it is hard to figure out how in the world you do those tiny little details!.
I like the lighter background and the little Easter tower! It certainly does make her dress show up well, and the two darling rabbits are just the thing to show off a perfect little Easter dress!
Thanks Linda,
I just love it when things come together so quickly like this one did!!
I used the name “Easter Princess” for the title of my Ebay auction. As soon as I read your words I knew that was going to be the title.
I took Ten Ping outside and managed to get a few pictures before it got super windy. We’re really getting pelted by the wind tonight and tomorrow its supposed to be worse.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Very sweet! Little Ten Ping looks like she is enjoying the attention too.
Should be an interesting day. Dug out the snow boots so we can snowshoe into the cabin if the snow is soft and there is no crust. Won’t know until we arrive. Think they had some more snow yesterday. And hopefully, we can locate the wayward sheep somewhere under a bed so grand can sleep again. 🙂 Looking forward to Ikea. Been awhile since we were there.
I totally understand the need for little ones having their special things to sleep with, and it’s wonderful you did what was necessary to reunite the two. When my grandkids come to spend the night I believe they bring all the contents of their bedrooms because of all the things they can’t sleep without.
Hi Joy,
Ten Ping certainly is enjoying all the attention!
I hope you have fun in the snow…and hopefully that little sheep will turn up!
Hope you had fun at IKEA too! I’ve never been to one of their stores.
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a perfect little dress! The fabric is a gorgeous color and the print just the right size, such wonderful little touches. This may be one of my favorite outfits. She could double as little bo peep. It can be so hard to find little prints for small dolls, and tiny lace can be a needle in a haystack. Love the appliqué too. Kudos for sure. I am positive Ten Ping is going to be heartbroken when you break the news that she can’t keep it. Since it went together so quickly maybe you could make another similar one so she’s distracted when mommy takes this one? (I can only hope.) Love it. Have a great day to all. Dorothy
Thank you Dorothy,
I’m glad you think it’s sweet! I actually would like to make another dress like it, but making a few changes. I’d like the sleeves to be slightly shorter…more like baby doll sleeves.
Thank you for the sweet compliments Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a beautiful little dress. The pink goes with her coloring so well. Ten Ping is 8″ right? Hmmm, the size doll I don’t like to sew for. I did the bottom of Jane’s dress like you did Ten Ping’s with the peek-a-boo lace. It was not called for on the pattern and there was a bit of netting that sticks out of the bottom so I pinned on some lace, liked it and decided to go for it. After all, it is an Easter dress. The woman that designed real Betsy McCall dresses thought that little girls should have slips attached to their dresses to save mommies time and trouble locating them. I love the beautiful lace applique and your nice embellishments.
Thank you Barbara,
I dont mind the small size dresses anymore…8″ seems big compared to when I sew for Navi, who is only 6″ tall.
I can remember having dresses with those slips attached to the underside of the dresses. I bet they did save moms lots of headaches!
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my! Ten Ping looks absolutely adorable. The bodice is so pretty and perfect for her pink dress. Looking at Ten Ping in her pink fusion makes her look soft and feminine. I like her hair down too. She is just so sweet looking in her lovely pink dress.
Also, the little bunnies she’s holding are perfect for Ten Ping. She’s not going to be very happy to see this outfit go and the bunnies go.
*Joy, many years ago, as we were headed out for a far away vacation, my son couldn’t find his beloved “ Sugar Cookie.” ( a blonde Le Mutt stuffed doggie). We searched everywhere including under bushes and asking neighbors if my son had left Sugar Cookie at their home.
It was with sad hearts we had to get on our way to our destination and leave Sugsr Cookie “ where-ever.”
After we returned home from our vacation, that evening as we headed to bed, that is where we found Sugar Cookie. He had fallen between our bed and the night stand and there he remained for over a week. Both Sugar Cookie and my son were elated to be reunited.
Thanks for your kind comments about Ten Ping’s dress set. I like those little bunnies too and might have to get another package of them…I’ve never seen them before and I could use my 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon…they’d be perfect for Ten Ping, Patsy and Navi…
What a cute story about Suar Cookie. I’m glad it had a happy ending.
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, thank you Paula for sharing the Sugar Cookie story. Such a happy ending. Ours too, but I will have to wait until tomorrow to tell it. Wasn’t easy.
Dear Jeanne, she is a vision in pink. I don’t know how you can sew such an elegant outfit for a such teeny tiny doll.
I washed my Gotz doll’s hair yesterday. I got her used and one of the previous owners had tried to “style” her hair. It was oddly cut and kind of gummy. Well, we both got through the hair washing ordeal. No one fainted; no one lost any hair; no one screamed (I was afraid I might). I think we were both holding our breath (laugh). Thus are the perils (and joys) of being a doll Mama.
Hi Dorothy,
Oh, I like that too…a vision in pink…that’d make a great title for a pink dress.
I’m glad the hair washing saga had a happy ending like Paula’s story did!
Yes, it’s fun being a dolly mama…
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Ten Ping’s dress is wonderful. You’ll have to give us a Ten Ping slideshow, maybe when the dress goes off to its new doll, so that we can see if this really is the prettiest Ten Ping outfit ever. Her long hair gives her a sort of early Mid-Century look that suits her nicely. I’m glad everything came together so smoothly.
We are on the west edge of the cyclone bomb. The rain has stopped. The snow thinks White Christmas has returned, and we are getting blasts of wind. Schools are closed, and when I emailed to cancel my doctor’s appointment, I think they were glad. They were going to close as soon as I left anyway. I hope they gave up and closed earlier.
Hi Marilyn,
Yes. I think a slideshow of Ten Pings dresses might be fun! She is such a pretty little girl!
It would be kind of fun to see which dress everyone thinks is the prettiest…humm
I heard about the cyclone bomb on the news tonight…poor Marilyn! I hope things go around you!
Stay safe and stay HOME if you can!!
Blessings, Jeanne
What an adorable little dress and finished so quickly. You are certainly on a roll cranking out those Easter frocks. . The applique is the perfect touch and the pantalettes are lovely. I think that the finishing touch under dresses. My daughter wore dresses much of the time as a child because I loved them on little girls. She wore bike shorts or leggings under them as well. Easy to play in and still be modest. The little bunnies are adorable and so tiny. When I was a child there were little ceramic animals that came attached to small cards. I’ve since learned they were made by Hagen Renaker. Always neat to find out wear vintage/ antiques were made. I even found out the maker of all of my old wooden German Christmas ornaments and other decor that were my grandparents. I unfortunately don’t have all of mine tiny ceramic figurines anymore, but I do have some including little chicks that are maybe 1/4 inch tall. I really love miniatures.
Hi Laura,
I can’t believe I got this dress done so quickly either. I’m glad though. I love pantalettes under dainty little dresses and think they add such a cuteness like nothing else can…
I like tiny little animals too…and love to use them as props. The tiny bunnies stole both mine and Ten Pings heart.
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
