The Missouri Botanical Gardens Orchid Show…

The Cardinals, Jaybirds and Snow Birds were going crazy at our feeder this morning… I’m sure they must have known snowy and “sleety” weather was headed our way this afternoon. I think they were stocking up on seeds in case they got snowed in their nests! :o) At one time I counted 12 Cardinals at the feeder…eating, waiting on the big tree branch above the feeder, on the ground, or on the curved part of the hook. I grabbed my camera but they disappeared as I’m sure they were camera shy! :o)

We have lots more snow than this next picture shows, as it snowed many hours after I took this picture but then it got too dark to take another one. Maybe I’ll get up in the morning and take a picture of just how much more we received.

As I mentioned, here are a few pictures of what we actually got from the snow last night…about 4-5″ my hubby said.

Back in December, we were listening to an audio book written and narrated by Fannie Flagg. It was called “A Redbird Christmas” and was SO good. If you have a library that carries audio books, you should check it out. Fannie does a fabulous job narrating. I highly recommend it. It starts out slightly slow… but it picks up and you all would enjoy it. I won’t give too much away, but as we were watching the redbirds at the feeder this morning, we saw “Jack” and just for the fun of it, we started thinking of names we could call OUR redbirds… Jack Spratt, Jack Nicholson, Jack Lemmon, Jack Palance, Jack Benny, Jack Nicklaus, Jack the Ripper, (sorry) Jack Klugman, Jack London, Jack Lord, Jack LaLanne, Jack Paar, Jack Hanna… You’ll have to listen to the book to see why all the Jack’s! That’s all I’m saying!

If you are covered up with snow or being flooded with the rain, stick around and take a look at some beautiful pictures Linda sent me. She and her hubby went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens Orchid show Thursday and it was just what I needed to remind me that Spring will be here as soon as it can!
It looks like this show is outside but I’m guessing it HAS to be inside with a domed roof? Maybe Linda can elaborate on how they are housed. I don’t know how the orchids could stay so beautiful when the weather is as crazy as it has been. Please enjoy them…

I also have some Valentine dresses from Susette, so let’s take a look at them. Who cares if Valentine’s day was Thursday. Dolly dresses are welcome around here any time of the year! She made them the last couple of years for herself and her granddaughter, Riya. Aren’t they adorable?

My day was busy with my hubby so I never made it into my sewing room. Maybe I’ll find some free time over the weekend.

See you Monday,
Have a great weekend!
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, you did catch three cardinals, anyway, two male and one female. They are so beautiful, and remind me of our late friend John, originally from Iowa, who loved cardinals. We don’t have cardinals in the Pacific Northwest, and he missed them, so had them on lots of things in their house!

Much as I love snow, I’m happy to say that, after almost two weeks, ours is melting fast, and our street is almost passable again! The main roads are fine, of course, but getting off/on our street and back up our driveway have been severe challenges at times!

Oh, what lovely flowers! Next to lilacs, orchids are my favorits flowers. The beautiful catteleya orchids in the last picture are almost exactly the color of our bridesmaids’ dressess! So pretty. Thank you, Linda, for sharing.

Susette, I love the dresses you made for Molly. The music one is my favorite, of course!

I meant to add, Susette, it looks like your Molly’s favorite color is red, too! I tried to put my Molly in a lavender dress one time, and she tried it on, and then reminded my that lavender was MY favorite color, not hers–hers was red! LOL

      1. Hi Charlotte,
I thought the beautiful orchid pictures would take away all the snow blahs everyone is having. I like snow…
for about 2 hours… then I’m ready for it to be gone.
I think you’ve had your fill of it too.
        Thanks Charlotte,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Well, we have awakened to a winter wonderland this morning, as I am sure you did too, Jeanne! I would guess we have about 2 inches of snow, not too much, but just enough to have everything white and pretty! Your back yard makes such a lovely scene, no matter what the weather.
We too, have birds flocking to our porch, no feeders here, because, you know, you have to get out there and fill them up! I just open the patio door and throw out the seed to whatever birds are brave enough to come close! We get enough birds though, many little finches, cardinals, of course, and even doves. Well, then too, a couple of squirrels!!. I also see that you have a lovely collection of sweet gum balls!! They are not fun to walk on, are they?

Susette’s dresses are just darling! Why don’t you start your own Etsy shop, Susette? I too, especially love that music dress! Where did you find that material? Molly looks wonderful in red! And that table setting, just perfect for a Valentine tea!

Oh heavens, Jeanne, the orchid show was inside!!! It is in a big room, with a high ceiling, with windows all around the top, almost like a separate building, but connected to the main entrance to the Garden. That room is actually the same room where they have the annual Flower and Train show, which I shared with you this past winter. However, it is arranged like you are walking through a tropical jungle, with the orchids shown like they are growing in the wild. Several nights during the show, they host Orchid Nights, where it is lit up, they have string music, wine, and food. Romantic! Thank you for showing the pictures!

    1. Hi Linda,
I think we got a little more than you did this time. Fortunately its melting…still lots on the ground but the roads are clearing off with all the traffic on them.
We should have raked those gum balls earlier but I think they fell when we were working on Dr. A’s house. They’ll have to wait a little longer…ugh!!
Thank YOU for sending me the lovely pictures of the orchids. I can’t wait till there are colorful flowers like that in everyone’s yards.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Loved seeing your Cardinals, we don’t have them here in CA either. Also great for Charlotte to identify them for us. I had to take a closer too.
Your snow is so peaceful looking. Hope you were able to get more photos this morning.
Linda’s botanic garden photos are so tropical and lush looking. Makes me want to hop a plane to Maui. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful dresses Susette. And the Valentine tea looks so welcoming. I’ll be buzzing south to partake. Well, in my dreams. 🙂
Grands are coming up to visit tomorrow while daughter attends a childhood friends baby shower. Our yard is a muddy mess so not sure what we can do for entertainment. Probably go on a long walk and visit their great grandparents house. That is if the weather cooperates. Can’t fit three car seats in our car or the truck. Happy to say that this morning, we have a sunrise and clear sky that we haven’t seen in days. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I did add a few pictures to today’s post. The sun is warming things up but we still have plenty of snow left on the ground.
You can play games with your grands… course I’m the game queen…so that was my first thought…or you could have the make mud pies! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. We too have a lovely clear sky and sunshine. Snow is expected tomorrow and Monday. That makes all the flower pictures welcome. We don’t have cardinals, and they make Jeanne’s pictures look unreal. Cardinals are on greeting cards and china, not on lawns. Everyone knows that. Or maybe just us Westerners.
Isn’t Susette’s Molly cute? And lucky. I’m glad I know that the treats on the table only look delicious so I won’t come share them. But thinking of doll-sized luxury, my friend Nikki sent this link https://custombuiltdollhouses.com/ If you’ve won the lottery recently and wanted to share your good fortune with your dolls, that’s the link you want.

    1. Wow, Marilyn,
The first thing I had to check out was the doll houses. Oh, my goodness… wouldn’t that be fun for a young girl….or an old girl. I loved looking at those pictures!

I guess we’re having snow helter skelter all over the place at all the different times. I guess that keeps everyone guessing…when will it be my turn for snow?
      Thanks Marilyn
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. All of the pictures are lovely, both of the snow and the orchid show. The pictures of the cardinals could go in any nature magazine or book, both interesting and beautiful. Aren’t you glad you painted the barn red? Thanks for the pictures of the orchid show, Linda, very well photographed. Glad you got there early.

    1. Hi Susette,
I wish I could have gotten a picture of the 12 Cardinals…it was so beautiful. I’m glad you enjoyed the snow and the orchids. I’ll take the flowers over the snow!!!
Thanks for sharing your dresses with us.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Suzette…your Valentine dresses are just adorable and so cute on your AG’s!
Linda…THANK YOU for the Orchid pictures…I have one plant that has 4 buds…but ANY flower is fun this time of year. That had to be a fun trip to the indoor gardens.
I am a fan of 4 seasons but this seems like it is half of the year already!
Thanks for showing us the fun pics Jeanne!
