Hi everyone,
My son… my favorite son… fixed my computer so I was able to get back online. YAY! It’s wonderful to be back with you again.
I had a post ready last night to use, but when I couldn’t get online, I decided to save it for tonight…then show Caroline’s hairdo in the next post. Well… something happened and I lost the pictures I was planning to use. They were of how I had decorated her dress with the silk ribbons on the side and a close up of her pantalettes and about how I decided to use the lace for her fichu. I also decided to use Elizabeth’s cream shoes to make things a little less matchy matchy.
BUT… since I somehow lost those pictures, I can’t go backwards and undress her just to show you those things when I have her all set for our photo shoot for the listing on Ebay, so I’ll do things a little differently. I’ll go ahead and show you a few shots of the beginnings of what’s been going on and then TOMORROW you can come back for the big reveal.
When I get my pictures for Ebay taken, I’ll go back and show you the closeups of her silk ribbons on the side and the details on her pantalettes and her fichu and maybe more! :o)
Okay…so for today, let’s start here…
I had to tame Caroline’s hair again. I think all the wrestling to get her dress off and on and messing with the fichu got her curls out of place. I separated each curl again and twirled it around my finger to calm down the frizzies.
Then I saw this picture when I googled “Regency Hair Styles” and thought I could “maybe” come up with something like it.
I gave it a try and then asked Rebecca to come and look at it and see what she thought…
She said it looked like a “hot mess!” Well, that’ll never do… so I started taking it apart in the back…
I tried again and you’ll have to come back tomorrow to see if the “hairdresser” was successful. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne
Too funny, Jeanne–a “hot mess”, huh?! Well, I’m afraid that’s what *I* would have ended up with, as I have absolutely zero talent with hair. I figure there’s a reason why God gave us a boy instead of a girl!! (giggle….) So much easier!!
I remember, with my Molly (AG), I absolutely dreaded when I might have to redo her braids, but at the time, I would take her to the doll shop where I worked, and she would “model”. I’d write a little story on a card and put it up next to her. Pajamas and slippers meant she was going to a sleepover; a fancy dress meant she was going to be in a piano recital; a heavy coat over an outfit meant she was going to grandma’s for Christmas; and so on. It was fun, and I think our customers really looked forward to seeing what she was doing next. Sometimes they would buy the outfit right off her, and I’d have to change her and write a new story! (And at least one customer tried to buy her on my day off–my boss said “Molly’s mother would be most unhappy if she came and found her gone!”
Anyway, eventually all that changing of clothes, and taking her back and forth to work, took a toll on her braids, and I had to bite the bullet and redo them. For a couple of days, I let her hair stay combed out, as it formed nice waves, but I finally sat down with her. I think it took four tries before I got her two braids anywhere close to the same!!
Yup, it’s a good thing I had a boy!
I had both a boy and a girl. My daughter was in competitive dancing and had to always have her hair in French braids for competition. Not only am I hopeless with hair, but she had the thickest hair I’ve ever seen on a blonde. If my stepdaughter was here, she would do her hair for me. She was really good at it. If she wasn’t here it was off to have it professionally done. As for the braids on dolls, my daughter had a Kid Sister doll. She took out the braids and I never could get them in the same again. I really think doll braids are done by machine.
HI Charlotte,
Yes, a hot mess! It really was when I looked at those pictures again…
Your idea a boy being less work than a girl might be true… no hair to fuss with, no bows to tie, no ruffled or frilly dresses to iron, etc.
Braids CAN be tricky getting them to look like they first did… but it’s possible.
I hope you’ll like the “new and improved” Regency hair style you’ll see tomorrow.
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Jeanne, even though Rebecca says it is a “hot mess”, I see a glimmer of hope in the half updo! I think with some fine tuning, it can turn out to be very regal! I guess now you are seeing why Caroline wasn’t the best for little girls! Maybe you could make clothes for her on some sort of dress form they have for dolls, to save her hair from getting all mussed up!
I, on the other hand have no problem with styling my doll’s hair. I too, have a Molly, as you know, and bought her brand new from AG. I took her braids out almost the first week I got her, because that’s what you do to a doll to make her “yours”! At least that’s the way I always was, and I do remember spending entire afternoons when I was small, just playing with my dolls hair, learning how to style it, braid it, etc. I was always hair oriented, since I was the oldest of 4 girls, and lots of times I fixed my younger sisters hair. I’m not sure how they liked it though! 😉 AG made some nice hairpieces for the dolls, but I’m not sure if they still have those.
Nowadays, I just go with the flow as far as doll hair goes. The simplest is usually the best for everyday wear. My Kaya has never had her braids taken out, because that’s how she wears her hair, not because I’m afraid to do it. Molly has braids most of the time. but she does get her hair taken down ever once in awhile.
I’m excited to see how Caroline’s outfit will look when we see it full length! I see ribbons on the side and the fichu! It’s coming together!
I’m so glad you are back!!
Hi Linda,
Well, maybe just a “small” glimmer of hope for that first try of Caroline’s hair. It’s suitable now, at least to me! I think it will be okay! You’ll see soon!
I think you just have to jump in there when working on your dolls hair…don’t be too afraid, take it slow and gently and most things will work out. I only use the doll wig brush and never use a comb.
I am hoping to get my post written and have lots of pictures to show. I think I had 118 pictures and was trying to narrow them down last night. I still have 60 some to work from. She’s pretty photogenic!
I am GLAD to be back too. Thank you!
Blessings, Jeanne
Please thank Kristoffer for us! Glad everything is now copacetic.
Love Rebecca’s comment! 🙂 Can’t wait to see the show photos. Fun.
I’ve just had trouble with now a second Ebay purchase, because of Ebay’s underestimating of the shipping costs. Their estimate was 20.00 or less and it really was 60.00. Way too much for me. Guess there has been another increase? or I’m just picking the wrong things.
Hoping that the sun warms it up around here. Frost everywhere this morning.
HI Joy,
Well, I’m not sure if my pictures should be called “show” photos, but they are better than the “hot mess” ones!
I don’t like how Ebay sets the shipping charges… sometimes it’s totally unfair the prices they charge. I hope you get it resolved.
We are pretty cold here today too… We have rain the next few days!
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
I missed the past two days so I definitely want to say that the pictures of the Orchids were absolutely beautiful. What a wondrous place to hang out!
I am so sorry about your computer problems. They can be the ultimate in stressful. You’re blessed to have someone so close to help you out. We have the Geek Squad if things get really bad. I get those things all the time that tell you to click on something to fix this or that, usually to update my Paypal account. I even get false notices from banks I don’t even use. When I was having trouble sending e-mail, I found out it was because when I went to comment on something I read it said “sign in to post”. I couldn’t understand why I had to do that because I never had before, but I did it and I think it was a way to get my password because it would never let me comment. It caused a real mess. I found out it was caused by an illicit file on my computer. It took forever to track it down because it was well hidden. I got a notice from Norton the other day that my computer had been attacked but they stopped it, then I got that sign in to post notice again. I cancelled out of it right away.
Someone mentioned that they had a notice from Paypal to complete a purchase. I get them a lot. They come after I have completed a purchase, so I just check my notifications and see they are complete and in some cases on their way. I’ve gotten to where I just cancel them when I see them. I did nearly have a problem one day when I questioned something myself and then got a notice from Paypal to log onto my account and update my information. I nearly did it but, as someone said, they asked for too much information so I cancelled it – quickly. Yesterday I got a really weird one from Paypal saying someone had credited my account for a purchase I made in October. From a company I never in my life bought anything from. I’m sure this was a way to get me to sign onto the scam to say it wasn’t my charge. They have so many ways to try to get you. My hubby gets that one a lot about “don’t shutdown your computer and call Microsoft right away”. We’re both protected in several ways, and all that stuff still gets through.
We had another scary one a couple months ago. Someone got my hubby’s business bank account number and was charging things to Comcast. One month it was $80. When they got away with it, the next month it was $252. By this time the bank was made aware of it and we had to get a new account number.
I can’t wait to see Caroline’s hair. She would be beautiful with an updo. Can’t wait to see if that’s what she ends up with. Looking forward to seeing her full ensemble. So glad you have your computer back and in good health.
HI Barbara,
Yes, weren’t those orchids just the prettiest things you’ve ever seen?
It’s pretty scary to get those scams not knowing if they are good or bad… I am just not going to click on anything anymore and if I have to, I’ll just shut down my computer and call Kristoffer! That’s the safest thing for me to do. I don’t know what I’ll ever do if he moves out of state. EEP!
I hope you’ll enjoy seeing the pictures of Caroline’s hair. I’m pretty satisfied with how it looks and Caroline said she loved it! I guess that’s all that matters. I’m not trying to see my doll, just the dress…
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
So glad your “favorite” son was able to fix your computer and you’re up and running again.
I am looking forward to seeing your post tomorrow. I love Caroline’s dress and can’t wait to see how the “hot mess” evolves. Isn’t it nice to have a daughter who will give her honest opinion? Well, it is after all why we ask. But I did have to chuckle over Rebecca’s reply. I am not long on patience so dolly hair designs are definitely not my forte, can’t wait to see. Hope you have a great night.
HI Leigh,
Just as soon as I got my post written for Wednesday, I got up from the computer and Amy texted me. So… I didn’t get my Ebay listing done, but I’m home now, so I might get a head start on it and list it tomorrow evening.
I like messing with dolly hair, but Caroline’s was definitely a challenge, I’m not sure what I’ll have when I take hers all down. I might be a disaster to have to deal with. I need to take out those 2 little braids I put across the top first thing!
I hope you like what you see tomorrow! It’s the best I could get it.
Thanks Leigh,
Blessings, Jeanne
So glad your computer is up and running again. I do agree that when you dress Caroline her curls can get messy. My solution for the couple of times I’ve redressed her is to put her original hairnet around her hair, dress her, and then take it off.
That Regency hairstyle in the picture looks great. You could also check out any of the Jane Austin movies- I like Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Emma with Gwneth Paltrow or Northanger Abbey with Felicity Hones to name but a few.
Can’t wait to see all the special little touches to Caroline’s dress and the hairstyle you come up with. My daughter used to have hair almost to her waist from around seven to twelve. I had two wonderful hair books and used to make french braids, ropes, inside out french braids, buns, etc. It was fun while it lasted. Now I play with doll hair.
HI Laura,
I like the idea of a hair net and might give that a try next time I have to dress her. It’s going to seem weird when I take her hair down from the style I have it in now… Since Caroline’s hair was all one length, that was what presented the problems… no little tendrils to work with so I have to just make them long ones.
Rebecca used to have really long hair and the beautician we went to used to love to mess around with her hair, fixing it in all these fun creations! I think I have a couple of pictures of them I could show.
Thanks Laura, I hope you like what I ended up doing with it.
Blessings, Jeanne
Along with the others I am happy to hear that you are back in your computer and that the scammer didn’t get his scam to work according to their plan. I love Caroline’s hair style inspiration. If I remember correctly her collection has a braid on a headband that fits right in with this.
PS I hope you are through changing all your passwords. When my phone was stolen it took a lot longer than I imagined to do that (and add extra security layers).
