I’ve told you before how much I love to make Civil War dresses so it probably won’t come as a surprise that Addy will be modeling the first dress of 2019!
My day was a bit full so I just have a few ideas that I was playing with. These are a couple pictures I hope you can get an idea of what the dress might look like.
Yes, that’s one of the pieces of fabric I bought the other day, with a quick drawing of what I’m hoping to turn this fabric into! A couple ladies mentioned this particular piece of fabric and that made me pretty happy as I really liked it. I like the sleeves on this pattern by Keepers Dolly Duds…
This is where I got my inspiration from. It might change a little as I stich it together, but hopefully it will be something Civil War worthy.
Hopefully I’ll be able to get the dress cut out tomorrow! Sorry this is so short, but I just didn’t have enough time to do more.
See you tomorrow
Blessings, Jeanne
You know, Jeanne, I probably wouldn’t have chosen that fabric myself, just seeing it on the bolt, I mean, and I don’t even remember seeing it in the pile you showed us the other day! But, seeing it with the solid yellow, and the lace, and the tiny buttons, and that sketch…yes I can definitely see it as a Civil War dress! Can’t wait to see the final product!!
This is really going to be a beautiful dress, Jeanne! I love the colors, and those tiny buttons! I too, love the balloon sleeves, especially on Addy! How do you finish the sleeve band? Early AG sleeves had a tiny piece of Velcro to make them fit tighter, but now they just fit over the hand, with nothing to make them fit better. Since I have never bought a dress like that from you, I was wondering about how you do it.
That last dress must be a bridal gown, how beautiful!! It must have taken several extra hands to get into that, but it certainly is a gorgeous dress!
Oh lucky Addy! And in the fabric I liked too. The matching buttons and lovely lace look perfect. Your sketch is professional like your sewing of course. Unlike my graphically challenged tries. 🙂 And that Harper’s wedding dress, wow! Makes me wonder how many yards of fabric were in the skirt?
Today’s the big seal the heating ducts day test. Hope it passes. Can’t imagine if it doesn’t. Then paint for the new attic access, a city inspector visit, and finally put stuff back in the closet. I’ll be dancing on that day. 🙂
Have you ever made outfits for Natterer dolls? Love those.
Will you be making anything for the Valentine’s Day set? 🙂
I love the Sylvia Natterer dolls, too! I have 2 or 3 of them, I think (well, maybe 4…).

There are several other sites too.
Love your sketch.. combines details of both lovely dresses! That fabric is beautiful:) can’t wait to see it made up!
Happy New Year ??
The fabrics are wonderful with the tiny buttons and lace. I love the soft yellow material with the navy print. Pale yellow has always been a favorite color of mine.
The pattern is going to look great with the pattern you’d like to do. It’ll be perfect for all the girls from that era.
I like the new American Girl of the year’s hair color and eye color. Her story sounds like a nice one. It just seems like the new AMG dolls are made as nice as the older ones. The red haired dolls always interest me and I have a year to consider this one.
P.s. somehow I missed your clever and wonderful ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas poem! Jeanne, you are so talented!!
That was such a treat. I go into your blog to get the latest posting and somehow missed your poem. So glad I saw it. It really made me smile envisioning the story!!
Dear Jeanne, I am sure Addy will be happy with the dress however you choose to design it. I have a mini Addy but not a larger one. I have been meaning to get her storybooks. Maybe I will look for them on Amazon.
It’s January 2, already.
A new year, promising new doll fun! Yeaaaa!
I’m so looking forward to seeing Addy’s new dress. I love the fabric. Do you use bought patterns or draft the patterns yourself. I love designing clothes, but I’ve never tried drafting my own. The American Girl of the year is wonderful. I love her hair color. She looks Irish. I think my grandkids and I are going to the American Girl store tomorrow so I will get to see her in person – and buy my Wellie Wisher. We were supposed to go today but it has been raining something fierce so we decided to try for tomorrow.
I think the dress will be lovely. Those little buttons are a perfect match, and they will be the ideal finishing touch.
I’ve tried twice to post some Sylvia Natterer links. I suppose eventually they’ll show up several times.

I’m someone else who was hoping to see that fabric again soon, and I do love those sleeves. I think that pattern is one of the most reproduced on Etsy because everyone loves it — but yours will be different. Did you have the buttons already?
