Today I won’t give away too many clues
My hope is that you’ll come back for the news…
The news of what Isabelle’s story will be
Return here tomorrow and then you can see…
Here are a few random hints in no particular order…
Oh, remember I said I thought we might miss all the snow and ice… we were WRONG! The weatherman was WRONG! Look what we got on Saturday! Surprise, surprise… 4-5″ of snow with ice underneath!
Sunday morning when I woke up the wind chill was 3 degrees. Sunday’s high was 24 so nothing melted!
Snowy weather is good for sewing!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Looks like Isabelle is going to be all ready for the school Valentine’s Day party! I remember decorating a shoebox in school, a few days before Valentine’s Day, where friends could put their Valentines. We each had a “mailbox”, of course, and back then you got what you got from whomever wished to give you one–no list of classmates’ names sent home with the expectation that Everybody would give a card to Everybody else! (I think most of us did that anyway; I know my brother and I did.)
Oh, I’m kind of envious of your snow, Jeanne! We haven’t had more than a few wet flakes thus far this winter. Of course, we don’t usually get much snow in the Seattle area anyway, and some years are completely snow free, so when we do have a “good” snow, it’s a real treat for me! Not so much for people who have to drive in it, though–there are lots of long, steep hills to contend with, as well as Many drivers who have no idea what they are doing!
HI Charlotte,
Remember when little girls dressed up like this for special parties.. I miss that! :o(
We always decorated boxes in school too…and it was ALWAYS one of my favorite things to do… I might have to show that post again where Molly decorated her box… :o)
Our snow hasn’t budged a bit today… still there and probably will be for a few more days. It’s almost easier to get around on it if you don’t do any shoveling… because the ice is underneath! Yikes!
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Getting exciting, Jeanne! I see some pantalettes, a lacy slip,a pretty bow, a box of candy, a Valentine, and a million dollar bill?? Can’t wait until tomorrow! Maybe Isabelle won the lottery!
Oh yes, Charlotte, I also remember having Valentine’s Day parties at school, decorating a shoebox to take to school with crepe paper, hearts and flowers, the whole nine yards. We did get a list of everyone in our class, although not everyone got the same amount of valentines. Heartbreaking, wasn’t it? We surely took our knocks early in life compared to kids today! Memories!
Yes, Jeanne, the weathermen were WRONG! You got the snow we were expecting! You yard looks beautiful, and I’m sure it is still looking beautiful, since it has been so cold. Well, yesterday afternoon and evening we did get snow, a whole 2 inches, so it’s all white again, but this time the shoveling won’t be so treacherous! It never got out of the teens yesterday, so we were inside too. I hope your chickens are OK. Do you have heaters for them?
HI Linda,
Well, Isabelle didn’t quite win the lottery, but she sure looks awfully sweet in her new dress set. You saw correctly and tomorrow you’ll get to see it all together… or maybe tonight if it goes on Ebay without a hitch.
We still have snow but it’s not as pretty as it was in my first picture. It’s been tracked through and Reuben’s “yellowed” it up on places… ugh! I am house bound and it’s okay with me… plenty to do here… plenty of groceries, and plenty to sew! Yay!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Winter Wonderland! It looks like a Hollywood set but if there’s ice underneath, it wasn’t made for dancing. Next time try for Linda’s powder snow. That’s the kind that’s fun to shovel.
Isabelle’s outfit looks wonderful — the nice thing is that it looks like you had fun with the accessories, as if you had more time than you needed and all kinds of cute ideas. I’m looking forward to the finished product tomorrow. This set looks very well lighted — it doesn’t sound like it was a day with a lot of natural light, but you have beautiful warm light in all your Isabelle pictures.
Hi Marilyn,
George went over to “the house” and tried to clear off the walkway for the guys coming tomorrow to put down the flooring and carpeting. He said it was hard as a rock once he got the top layer off. He can’t do what he used to, so he just had to uncover it and sort of pick at it, hoping it might melt somewhat by tomorrow… but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Thanks for the compliments on Isabelle’s dress. I certainly tried lots of different places for finding the right lighting for her pictures. I’m not sure I ever succeeded but I tried hard!
I hope it goes on Ebay okay tonight.. no problems… if you stay up, you might see it before tomorrow.
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
I always keep rock salt on hand; that seems to help with melting the ice that’s under the snow (or even the ice we sometimes get without snow!). Did George have any rock salt to put down
Love the snow photos, especially the one of the lonely bird feeder. I had to zoom in to see, but looks to me like there are some visitors? Hope you keep it stocked during the cold spell. If it wasn’t only 24 degrees, I’d be out there with my snowshoes making tracks. Such a beautiful scene.
Appears that Isabelle is fully prepared for Valentine’s Day. Looking forward to seeing the full photos tomorrow.
Keep warm, those in the freezing parts. Here in northern CA, the sun is just peeking over the trees so hopefully everything will dry off today.
HI Joy,
Yes, the birds have been going crazy at that feeder. We used to have it in the back yard, but Reuben gets up on the back of the couch and if he sees them, he barks at them, so we up it out the kitchen window…
We are still pretty much snowed in… my hubby did venture out, but not me… I’m always fine with staying home… especially during snowy weather…
Yes, Isabelle is fully set for Valentine’s day… she’s excited for everyone to see her…
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Well I’m a day late (or two) and a dollar short once again so I will comment briefly on the Saturday post. Isabelle looks beautiful in her new frock. I love the buttons. I’m a button connoisseur and love to do creative things with them. And what a clever idea for the use of embroidery floss. It made a lovely bodice lovelier. I never thought of doing that when I couldn’t use ribbon in a trim because it wouldn’t lie flat. I resorted to some type of decoration, but never thought of floss and I have a ton of it. I will be borrowing that idea sometime down the road. On today’s post, I love the pantalettes and always love the slips. Can’t wait for the finished product – and the story!
I too remember Valentine’s Day at school. We usually had one big box at the front of the room and the teacher distributed the Valentine cards. Do they even celebrate this holiday at school anymore? They have done away with so many of the fun things we used to do. Like May Day. I loved May Day. The sixth grade girls always did the Maypole dance. But I do remember my mother saying she’d scream if she heard the “Mexican Hat Dance” one more time because she had to sit through years of hearing it at May Day festivals. She had four kids spread out over eleven years. But it was a huge fundraiser for the schools and a lot of fun for us kids.
I missed the Saturday blog for a good reason. It was my 39th wedding anniversary. I was surprised by my hubby with something I have been wanting for ages. The money to buy an Accuquilt Go Big. I liked the idea of the hand cranked ones, but waited long enough that they put out the electric Go Big. I don’t quilt, although I’d like to try my hand at least doing table runners or wall hangings, but I love doing applique and the Go Big will make this really easy. I love doing children’s clothes using applique and did many of those for my kids when they were little. Ideas are running rampant in my head and as soon as it and the dies I ordered arrive, I will put some of those to use. With that and my embroidery/sewing machine, the sky will be the limit. Maybe I’ll finally get some inventory in my Etsy shop.
HI Barbara,
I’m quite the button collector too! I have zillions of them in zillions of containers… (slight exaggeration, but not by much!)
I’m going to redo my floss on the top row… I didn’t do a mirror image of it and I can easily fix it… I started in 2 different holes.
I’m pretty sure Valentine’s Day is still celebrated at school, but at the one Sara goes to, they won’t let the kids bring in “homemade” cupcakes any more…against health and food regulations.. silly if you ask me…
Well Happy Anniversary Barbara… 39 years is something to celebrate these days!
I’ll have to check out what you hubby bought you… I’m not familiar with that name, but I might know it if I see it… I have an idea of what it is… all for a good cause… Etsy! :o)
Thanks Barbara…
Blessings, Jeanne
Just so you are aware, the reason home baked goods aren’t allowed in a lot of schools is because of hepatitis and other diseases brought in through those home baked goods by well meaning folks. At my former school, any store bought things were ok. They just discouraged the homemade stuff. 🙂
Dear Jeanne, I love the little poem. I can’t wait to see what you have come up with.
Happy Martin Luther King Day!
Loved all the detailed pictures…that’s fun. Can’t wait to see the whole thing. Your pictures always look clear and well lit. You must have a more trained eye.
The little paper accessories look so sweet.
The weatherman hasn’t gotten the forecast close lately…but we had the dreaded ice and that called school off on Friday…them MLK day and more ice/snow today so another snow day.My daughter the 3 rd grade teacher said the 5 day stretch is good cause the kids came back after Christmas and spread colds and coughs so this break is good. She went in and scrubbed and sprayed Lysol on everything.
Big ole fluffy snowflakes coming down hard now.❄️
