Finally, Finally, Finally… Addy’s dress can be seen on Ebay! It’s taken me a long time to get all the pieces of this listing together, but it’s on Ebay now! I had the most awful time getting my pictures to cooperate and I’m still not 100% satisfied with them, but I didn’t want to wait another day, so I used what I had and took a few more just so I could get my story line worked in.
I liked the pictures I took with my gray background, but I was hoping to make Addy’s dress pop off the page a little more, but even with using a white background, my light tent, editing, changing the lighting, and using some special features with Picasa, I just couldn’t make it happen. I thought maybe it was because there wasn’t ANY natural light coming into my sewing room… It’s a pretty gloomy day outside… gloomy, misty, and mostly just gray!
So I did the best I could in trying to make her dress “cheerful!” You can read my story line in the listing, which you can see HERE… or you can click on the picture at the right side bar.
Here are a few of the pictures I had to use, but wasn’t thrilled with them…
I won’t give the story line away, but I liked it… Here’s an “ok” picture…
Well, I’ve got to get started on a padded microphone case for my brother. I have all the things I need to make it, just missing one necessary ingredient… TIME!!… so I have to put it first now!
This is short but you have Addy’s dress to look at…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I thought your entire presentation on ebay was very nice, Jeanne. Some colors/fabrics just don’t photograph as well as others, but even considering that, I don’t think the photos would be a problem. I also like that you use the fabric print as the background (sides, etc.) for the whole thing, so folks can get a close look at the print. I know you’ve done this for some time, but I thought I’d mention it.
I liked the storyline, too; very appropriate for a little girl of Addy’s era!
Thanks so much Charlotte,
I’m glad you liked my storyline. I think I could have written a book once I got started… Thanks for your kind compliments on the pictures…
Blessings, Jeanne
Your storyline is just a perfect one to highlight Addy’s new outfit, Jeanne! I especially liked the lighting in the pictures with her and the soldiers leg. Actually , I like it best of all and when you have the lighter background it shows off her outfit better, instead of blending too much in the background. I’m glad you had as many pictures as you did, since it shows off the dress in different lighting. All in all, it’s a wonderful presentation!
Oh boy, we are still stuck in snow, 10 or more inches of it! I can’t believe you don’t have any left, ours is just the same, but now it has a hard crust on top of what had fallen, so it took us two days to shovel our driveway and sidewalk, only to have the snowplows push a “wall” of snow, about 3 feet deep right where our driveway and the street meet! Today only goes up to 34 degrees, and that in the late afternoon, so I doubt there will be any melting, but tomorrow will be better, I hope!!
Thanks Linda,
I kind of liked the story line too! :o) I searched my sewing fabrics like crazy trying to find something different and lighter and just didn’t have anything big enough.. but I’m on the hunt for something new…
I can’t believe you got so much snow…ours is just about all gone… a few patches of it in places, but nothing to speak of. I think it’s supposed to warm up in the next few days… hopefully all your mess will be a thing of the past.
Thanks and stay warm…
Blessings, Jeanne
Linda’s snow sounds challenging, to say the least. Ours is nearly gone, but I know what she means about snowplows making a wall. That’s happened to me too, though the worst was when I live in New Jersey. Men and boys came by with shovels, offering to help, for money, of course. They were looking for a way to make money on a pretty, post snow day. I lived in Ocean Grove, which didn’t allow driving in town on Sunday, so my car was snowed in on the highway. The shovelers gave me a price and I said, “Maybe you should see the car before you commit yourselves.” We walked to the town gate and I pointed, “See that red spot over there? That’s the roof of the car.” They said, “Yes, ma’am. That will be twice the original price.” I thought it was more than fair.
The white background works well for a hospital story, and lots of the pictures show the dress in what I think are its true colors. Addy looks beautiful and so does the dress. I agree with Charlotte, I’ve always thought it was nice of you to use the fabric as a frame for your pictures so that we can see what we are bidding on. That’s very helpful as well as extremely attractive. I’m still sorry that Addy didn’t have chocolate chips. I was looking forward to seeing you embroider chocolate chips on each cookie.
Have you noticed that already the days are getting longer?
HI Marilyn,
I LOVED the story of your snow shoveling job being “twice” the price! That made me laugh!
Ebay changed things again and I can’t add a counter at the bottom of my listings the way I used to. I wish I could add it back in… I have 90 hits so far and 15 watchers! :o)
I almost put chocolate chips on her cookies.. they looked too plain to me, but I guess not… :o(
I could certainly use some longer days… I seem to be very far behind on things…
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, I’m glad you used the hospital story. The poor wounded soldier with the leg injury is so realistic. The lighting appears to be from the glow of candles and the background one of the tents where the wounded were housed. I think the variety of photos showcases the dress well. And I see a “bid” already. 🙂
I’m sure others have Civil War ancestors, but I will tell you about one of mine. He was from Wisconsin and fought in the war with his unit. He and another soldier from his unit were both wounded and hospitalized in Baton Rouge. While recovering, he met and married his nurse. His friend married her sister, and they all returned to home to Wisconsin. Must have been difficult because the sisters had two brothers who fought for the south. One died in the war. Not a pretty time for our country.
What’s next on the line up? Or are you going to be back to painting those cabinets? 🙂
HI Joy,
Yes, and I’m sorry, I meant to say I used YOUR idea for the story line.. I loved expanding on it… Thanks so much!!! Perfect observation of the candles burning in the tents! :o)
YES… I do have a bid!!! :o)
I loved reading about your ancestors… and loved their story.. the love story part!
I have to get my brother’s microphone case made and then I would like to start on my cabinets again… really I would… then some Valentine and Easter dresses! Hats for the Little Darlings, Shoes for dolls, etc… lots to accomplish!
Thanks again Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a sweet story – Addy taking cookies to a hospital. I love how you show the wounded leg of the person in the hospital bed. So genius.
Addy’s dress is just adorable and the yellow accents are perfect for the printed material. Addy or any of the AMG dolls will look so sweet in this outfit.
Joy, that was an interesting story about your Civil War ancestor. Thanks for sharing.
And for those in areas of a lot of snowfall, hope it melts soon without flooding and hope all of you are warm and safe. Hope no one has their critters stuck outside.
HI Paula,
I’m glad you liked my storyline… Guess who’s in the bed with their leg wrapped up? Nellie volunteered! I would love to have seen a Caroline in this dress. I bet she would look gorgeous in it with her platinum blonde hair.
Our “critter” is inside and sleeping upside down in George’s chair!
Thanks Paula,
Have a wonderful day!
Blessings, Jeanne
What an interesting story about your ancestor, Joy. Alway neat to have relatives connected to important times of history.
Perfect storyline for Addy. I really enjoyed seeing pictures of your hospital set up. Reminds me of the series “Mercy Street”. That is such a lovely print and rather springlike. The days are getting a bit longer already which is good. Spring can’t come fast enough this year to suit me. Too bad we don’t live close enough, Jeanne, I would have been happy to loan you my Caroline for photos.
My fuzzballs are sleeping curled up in various warm spots, although in between naps they do enjoy watching the squirrels and birds munching seeds on the porch.
Thank you Laura,
I’m glad you like my storyline…once I got started with it the thoughts just kept coming.
I needed a better setup, really…my bed posts were too short so I had to put the bed up on a box. Then I had to cut holes in the blue fabric to put them over the posts. I couldn’t keep Nellie from falling out of the bed… anyway… it worked…
I was watching a very pretty Caroline late night but missed the end of the auction…she went for $93.00… :o(
I’ll keep watching…
Have fun with your furbabies.
Blessings, Jeanne
The final pictures of Addy show off the pretty detail on her dress for us to admire. Your detail is so awesome. The fabric worked so well in that design . Love her little basket and cookies and that bandaged leg is just the detail it needed. Best of luck on the auction ?
Thank you Kathie,
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing this one come together…I really like it too…my hubby is pretty proud of it since he picked out the fabric… :o)
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
