The doll that waited a year in the closet…

I was lamenting a few days ago about the mailman losing the little gold dress set I had made for Navi. It was supposed to be delivered to the buyer on the 13th of November, but somehow the package got lost. It’s been over 3 weeks so I remade the set and according to the tracking it’s supposed to be delivered tomorrow. The buyer is probably going to be sitting in a lawn chair out by the mailbox this time.

Well, when Paula read my story about my lost dress, she shared a story about a doll in the comments… actually a LOST doll that I think you’ll enjoy. You may have already read it, but I hope you enjoy it a second time! AND guess what? She sent me pictures!!!!

I LOVE a good story and this one certainly is! ENJOY!

From Paula…(who lives in Ohio but also has a place in California where they stay part of the year.)

I have a story about a doll I bought on EBay and lost after it was delivered!! She was a beautiful redhead with green eyes. In March of 2017, we were in California and I told my son to look out for several packages that would be arriving at our house back home (back in Ohio.) A few days later, he said they had arrived.

Shortly after that, I had my niece open all the packages on Face Time to assure me they had arrived in good condition. She opened them all and even though the tracking number said my redheaded doll arrived, she was not one of the packages!!

I called the post office and their records showed the box was delivered. My niece checked with our neighbors in case it ended up there by mistake, but that hadn’t happened- I hated to think of it but could it had been stolen? We didn’t think so because the other packages arrived with the doll. I thought it must be in some black hole in outer space then. It will always be a mystery.

Roll ahead to November 2018, we’re driving out to California again. I get a text from my niece. She was going to mop our kitchen floor for us and got the Swiffer box out of the closet where we keep our supplies. She opened the box to find a redheaded doll with green eyes hiding in the Swiffer box!!

We found out, my dear son, thinking he was being helpful, put the packages on the counter and the Swiffer box in the closet where supplies went!!! He never noticed the post address label.

What’s worse, I cleaned that closet out later on that year and never noticed the post address label either on that postal box.
My niece sent me a picture of the postal label – sure enough, my name and the seller’s name was plainly on the box!!
So the doll had been sitting in that Swiffer box for over a year in our closet all this time !!
So now I’ll have to wait till I get home next spring to see “my lost doll!”

Here are some pictures to go along with the story. If this doesn’t make your Saturday a little brighter… you might need more coffee! :o)
I have laughed so hard and will never be able to look at a Swiffer box again without thinking of this story and Paula! :o)

Isn’t she beautiful? I’m a bit partial to red heads, but she’s really pretty! Congrats on your long lost girl, Paula! :o)

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. love those redheaded dolls with green eyes. Even though it took a year at least she was found. What a funny story

    1. HI Lynn,
I just knew this story was worth sharing! I see it was!!
      Thanks Lynn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Charlotte Trayer

That was a terrific story with which to start the weekend! I, too, am partial to redheads, and this is really a beautiful doll!

I’m so glad that, indeed, “all’s well that ends well”!!

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
I’m glad, you too, enjoyed Paula’s story.
We’ll all be waiting for Paula to get home in the Spring to check out her redhead!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What an unbelievable story, Jeanne! If the pictures weren’t there, I just might NOT believe it! Such a pretty doll, is she a custom? And too, the beautiful dress! Did the seller know about this happening? I’m sure she was relieved to hear the doll was found, and if she did, might consider NOT mailing things in a Swifter box again! So, the unbelievable story turned out to be a heartwarming story, after all!

    1. HI Linda,
I don’t think I have ever mailed anything in a box used for something else for this very reason…I was concerned that it might get mistaken for trash and thrown out…
I just love this story!!! I’m glad you did too.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. That’s a beautiful doll in a beautiful dress. I’m sure she needs a JeanneMarie special after that adventure. You could have her mailed to you for Christmas, but I really don’t think I’d take the chance. One adventure was enough.

One year I ordered a single Waterford wine glass, using my credit card on a no payment until shipped basis. It didn’t come but I wasn’t charged, so while I would have preferred to have the Waterford, I at least hadn’t lost anything. A year later, on a cold winter’s day, there was a box waiting for me. I had long since abandoned all hope, but there it was. I guess I had to wait until that pattern was manufactured again.

What a nice surprise for Paula when she gets back to Ohio. But what a long wait.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I bet Paula thinks about that doll every day she’s away from her. She should have a homecoming party for her new doll when she gets back to Ohio.
I can’t believe all the “lost” or “delayed” stories all of you have shared…
Just an update…Navi”s Glimmer of Gold” set was supposed to arrive by 8:00 last night…it didn’t. …so I thought it would come today… so far…it hasn’t! I’m not sure what’s going on with the mail…. it says on the tracking, it’s stillin transit!
Your story gives me hope that it WILL arrive sometime!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Definitely add this one to the “Doll Tales” section of your forthcoming book. I’m so happy that Paula sent a photo of the elusive little redhead. Poor thing is lovely. Enjoyed reading the story with the matching photo this round.
Busy weekend for all I’m sure. How’s your shopping coming along? We still need something exciting for a three year old boy. Any ideas anyone?

    1. HI Joy,
Yes, she really is a very pretty girl…the story was even better since she was SO pretty.
Shopping? Me? I did some shopping for candy and party things but that’s all I’ve done…

I’m not up on what 3 year olds are into these days… sorry I’m no help!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Joy, based on our 3 year old great-grandson’s last visit look for PJs, a blanket or shoes with his favorite cartoon character (light up Spiderman shoes/boots, a hoodie, gloves/hat, and pjs were his favorite), Flingsot Monkeys, woodland habitat connectagons, snow sleds (if you’re in snow country), art/chalkboard easel, puppet theater, birdwings or dragon hood/wings, bat, bee, or birdhouses, from Hearthsong.com. Cars and trucks of all sizes…. and your favorite books, music CDs, and DVDs for littles. You could also record yourself reading the books, so he can “read” along with you. The great grand also liked medium puzzles (not the baby ones, not the big kid ones — Melissa and Doug wooden ones are good).

      1. Thanks for all the great ideas for us Christal…
I’m sure Joy isn’t the only one looking for ideas for 3 year old, little boys!!
        Great list!!!
        Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I thought this story was hilarious the first time I read it. It was just as funny the second time. But I can’t even imagine the frustration Paula must have felt. I would have been in tears. I’m amazed at the patience of the doll. My girls would have been screaming their lungs out and banging on the box to be let out. They can be a noisy lot. Or maybe they just do that when they lose patience over the fact that it takes me a week to get around to making a dress I can make in an afternoon when I finally find my “round tuit”. Thanks for the pictures Paula and I’m so glad your green eyed, redhead doll was found in good condition. She’s a cutie.

    1. HI Barbara,
I’m glad you enjoyed Paula’s story too. Maybe everyone enjoying it makes it,easier to be away from her new doll.
Isn’t her doll just the prettiest thing? I’m wondering if Paula already has a name picked out for her?
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Thank you Jeanne for sharing my story of the lost doll. It is still so incredible how this story happened. My son very sheepishly text me to say, “Did you hear the good news?” I reassured him, who would have known because I literally picked the box up to vkean the floor underneath it and re-arrange my closet!!
I did inform the seller I bought the doll from. She felt so bad that I had lost the doll that she sent me another aqua knitted dress to make me feel better. When I wrote her and explained everything, I also offered to pay for the second dress she sent me but she wanted that to be my gift. I did, however, find a way to compensate her for her kindness.
Another silly thing- none of us asked one another, “why do we have another unopened Swifter sitting in the closet?”

I thought the doll was a Felicity but with her bangs, I’m not sure who she is. When I get home, I’ll have to investigate that. She is so beautiful though. Love that red hair.
    Thank you Jeanne.

    1. HI Paula,
Thank YOU for letting me share the pictures to go along with the story. We all loved it!!! Really we did!!
Just think…even the seller of that doll has “her” side of the story to tell too!
What a kind thing to do for that seller to send you another knitted dress.
Thanks for making our Saturday a very “smiley” one!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Paula, I was trying to figure out what doll you have there, but I will say, I have never seen and AG doll with that shade of red, if that is the way it is in real life. There are two dolls that could possibly be your doll, but then again, she just may be a Felicity with a different wig. Did the seller say anything about her, if she was a custom or not?

She could possibly be AG #36, who has short red hair w/ bangs and hazel eyes. Hazel eyes can also look green. I can’t tell how long her hair is, but then again, I have never seen an AG doll with that shade of red hair. She could also be #8, who has red/auburn hair with green eyes. But the hair for that doll is a much darker red, nothing like you show in your pictures. The mystery deepens!

    1. HI Linda,
Yes, this is the mystery doll…maybe we can all solve the mystery doll”s identity.
Thanks for “working” on it Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Paula,
With all my ladies working on it, your doll might be figured out before you get home!!!
      Thanks again Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. My latest doll quickly moved from Ohio to Denver. Then it was moved to another distribution center outside of Denver where it sat for days while I tracked it. After 3 days it moved back to the Denver center, and was finally sent to Boulder and that afternoon, late, it arrived here. Sometimes the hard part seems easy, and then when the package is nearly within walking distance, it senselessly gets held up. Keep us up on this cute outfit. We’ll all want to celebrate, and when Paula returns to Ohio, may the doll will be ready to give her a homecoming party. By then, I’ll bet Paula will have chosen a name for her, though naming a doll sight-unseen is often risky.
You can see in the mirror that her hair is at least waist length. I don’t recall hair that color or style either, but the color seems to go beautifully with her complexion. She needs a very pretty name. We should start a list.
