My 4 Anniversary winners and a bit more…

Yesterday I was celebrating my 4th Anniversary of writing this blog. I still can’t believe I’ve passed that milestone…now I’m looking at my 5th year Anniversary! I had a Giveaway and asked everyone who wanted to enter to let me know which doll they would most like to have a half slip made for. I received quite a few different requests for dolls but I think the American Girls won out in the end.

So…who won… let’s see… I said I’d draw out 4 names in honor of my 4 year Anniversary… I put everyone’s name on a piece of paper and shuffled them all around…

…then I let my hubby draw out 4 names… He turned over these 4 names…

Here’s a close up of those winners!

Joy wanted a slip for her new little My Meadow Twinkle doll, she named her Romey. (Yikes…she’s only 6 1/2″ tall!)

Sandra wanted a slip for her American Girl doll.

Shara wants a slip for her new My Meadow Saffi doll, who is 18″ of beautifulness! :o)

Leigh was hoping to win so she could get a slip for her American Girl Elizabeth doll.

If you happen to be a winner, I’ll send you a dolly slip for the doll you mentioned. Give me a day or two as I wasn’t able to get any made up ahead of time. Congratulations to the winners!!! I hope you’ll enjoy your new slips!

While many of you are reading this, I will be with my hubby and my mom at the closing of her house. It was listed on July 11th and we had someone who wanted to buy it on the 3rd day. They went on vacation, but when they got back things really began to happen. We were working on a few things like the septic tank and some other minor repairs, but all in all, from listing to closing it was 22 days! Incredible huh?

The listing was taken off the market after that 3rd day and I didn’t think I had the pictures of it, but I found them and thought I’d share a few with you since I didn’t have a chance to do anything else today…Well, I did PLENTY, but nothing you’d be interested in… :o)

Here are a few pictures… for your viewing pleasure…as always. We left a few pieces of furniture and things on the wall until the final cleaning…just to make it look more homey… :o)

If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.

I made those kitchen curtains… :o)

It was a wonderful home and my brother and sisters and I have lots of great memories to remember. I hope the new owners will start making memories of their own when they move in.

Thanks everyone,
See you soon,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, congratulations to the winners!!

Thanks for showing the pictures of your mom’s home; it looks like it was a nice place to grow up! (That is an incredibly short time for the sale to go thru!! Wonderful!)

Update on the water heater crisis: we will have our new water heater tomorrow (Thurs.) “between 9 and 2”. Hate the huge window, but they are covering their tushies, I suppose. They did tell me they had Just started on the next day’s schedule so I hope that means we’re first on the list! I need to do laundry! and dishes! and take a shower!!!

This morning I was able (finally) to get Ron’s appointments changed–his echocardiogram is next Tues., and his appt. with the cardiologist the following Tues. So, I got to go to our prayer service at church this afternoon, after all.

We’ve both been tired today, especially Ron, and he has done a lot of napping. We went out for supper because, with no hot water, it’s kind of hard to do dishes! Maybe tomorrow will be My turn to nap!! 😉

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
The house closing is over and the new owners are moving in today. They were very excited!

The best thing a out your water heater troubles is that you got of cooking and doing dishes for a few days!!!

I hope you get your nap in today!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Congratulations to Joy, Shara, Sandra and Leigh! You will love your slips!

What nice pictures of the house, Jeanne! I certainly can see were this would be getting to be too much for your mother to take care of on her own. The yard is wonderful, and that back yard is so pleasant to look out at and just relax on the deck! Her kitchen was really nice too! it has almost the same layout as mine, minus the island. You certainly were lucky in selling so soon and getting everything wrapped up today is almost miraculous!
    Did you grow up there?

I can’t believe how fast this week is going! School starts here in less than two weeks, so I guess I need to get my dolls ready soon! They are still playing around the ice cream cart eating popsicles! Little do they know what’s around the corner!

    1. HI Linda,
Thanks for your sweet compliments on Momma’s house. It really was a nice little house and the new owners are just thrilled that they got to buy it.
Momma had 3 acres next to this house. When my dad died, she sold the Cape Cod house that I mostly grew up in and kept an acre to build this house on. So I grew up in both of these side by side houses. The house she just sold used to be the pasture for our pony, Flicka.

I better get some school dresses made…Yikes!!!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Congrats to Joy, Shara and Leigh on winning!
I just came online before headed out the door to the doctors and saw my name on the cards. How lucky am I this week and so excited to own something created and made with love by you. I tell my daughter about your creations all the time.

Your family home is lovely and that was a quick sell. You and your siblings have wonderful memories to share over the next decades. Some will be laughs and some will be sad for sure.

Blessings and thank you for the super giveaway.
    Sandra L.

*Tell your husband thank you for picking out my name*

    1. HI Sandra,
CONGRATULATIONS on winning one of my doll slips! I hope you’ll be pleased with my work.
We were getting the keys to momma’s house collected last night and my hubby was up so I thought it would be fun for him to draw out the names!
We do have a lot of memories in that house…especially Christmas ones!
      Thanks Sandra,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Bonnie Sullivan

Glad it sold so fast. but sad also. And end to a era in Kathryn life. Love you all.

    1. HI Bonnie,
As sad as it was to sell momma”s house, it was time. She was okay with it and was pretty excited that it sold so quickly.
You should come and see her sometime!
      Love you too,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Good Morning Jeanne
I’m so excited – I had to read your post twice just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming! I don’t think I have ever won anything and to win a beautiful slip made by you for Elizabeth is just fantastic. Thank you so much and a big thank you to George for picking my name.

The pics of your mom’s home are great. It looks like such a nice home with good size rooms and I really like the kitchen. The setting is so pretty with the view from the deck looking like a park. I love the giant trees. It must have been difficult for her to maintain and I imagine much of the work fell to you and George. So glad your transaction went so fast and I hope all goes well at your closing today.

    Many thanks and God Bless
PS: This is my 2nd post don’t know where the 1st one went so hope it doesn’t show up twice :0)

    1. HI Leigh,
Yes, it’s true… you REALLY won a slip from me! Elizabeth will be SO happy too!

Sometimes, I’m not sure why, a comment will come in from someone and my computer won’t recognize it and will wait for me to approve it… That’s what happened to yours. But it’s here now!

Momma’s yard was getting to be too much for her to take care of. We had to hire the yard to be mowed after my hubby had his surgery. That was just one thing we gave up… there was the gumballs that had to be raked and her gutters cleaned out and her deck stained… It was too much for us AND us!
It’s sad that she had to leave her home, but she had to and we all realized it… She was the only one who fought to stay.
      Thanks Leigh and congratulations again!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Wonderful news for the winners of those pretty I Dream of Jeanne Marie slips. I’m sure the recipients will love them. Congrats to all.

And, what a beautiful home your mom had. I’m so glad for you all that it sold so quickly. What a relief. We had one on the market for 30 months (after the 2008 crash. I was so relieved when it sold so I’m so glad for you all that that is taken care of. I’m sure you’ll have cherished memories of that spot but it seems like time moves us into new eras and experiences.

    Blessings to you.

    1. HI Becky,
Thanks for your congrats to the winners!
I can’t imagine having a house on the market for 30 months! It must have felt like an eternity! I bet there never so much excitement over a closing as there was at yours! I bet you held your breath till they signed on the dotted line!
      Thanks for your kind comments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What? I won? Oh boy!! And a big thank you to George! Jeanne too! 🙂
I absolutely can’t believe the size of the yard at your mom’s old place. Huge. All that mowing too. It’s beautiful. And a deck to maintain as well. I can feel the relief that will now sweep over you without that second home to manage.
And after reading Becky’s post that it took 30 months to sell one of her houses, I’m not feeling so bad that we still have husband’s parents place on the market. Hoping for an offer from a family, but we may not have that choice. Rental investors and flippers are flapping their wings. 🙁
And hoping Charlotte’s new water heater arrives promptly. Going without is glorified camping. Not my favorite.
As an update, the big fires next county northeast from us have gotten a lot of air power and are no longer threatening homes or towns. But, late yesterday, another fire started right past the county line that they have been really hitting. I haven’t checked yet on the aerial map this morning to see it. Not pointing fingers, but it appears we have a fire bug about. Just too many fires in the right places. Further investigation will tell.
Thank you again for the slip and so happy for the blog anniversary.

    1. HI Joy…yes you won! Well Romey did!!! For sure, her little slip will be the smallest one I’ve ever made for a doll!
Momma”s yard really was (and is) pretty, especially before it got to be too much for her. She’s 83 and it’s hard to imagine her still taking care of it…mowing the grass, raking the gumballs, trimming her bushes…it was just too much for her.
I hope you get a taker on your in-laws house soon…things always sell better with leaves on the trees!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Jeannie .. such a lovely surprise that wake up to! Congratulations to Sandra, Joy, and Leigh as well!
My Saffi, who fancies herself to be the resin version of Princess Charlotte, will be absolutely delighted that learn that she will be receiving a beautiful slip from Miss Jeannie ! I’ll send you a photo to share when it arrives:)
    Thank you so very much!

Your mother’s home looks wonderful! I’m sure the new family will enjoy it for many years as well!
Location is always the primary consideration with real estate. Here in Southern California, homes are at such a low inventory, that most are sold within a few days, if the listing makes it the the MLS. Its just crazy expensive to live here now!
Hope your MIL’s house sells soon, Joy! ..it’s always such a stressful time:)!

    1. HI Shara,
Yes, now Saffi, your new diva will have a slip to twirl around in! I hope you both like it!

It feels kind of strange to know that that house isn’t ours anymore…my mm even asked the new owners if she could stop by and see what they’ve done to it. They said absolutely!

      Thanks again Shara…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Congratulations to the winners! I was cheering for Romey because I want to see a slip in her size next to one sized for an AG. This is going to be fun.
Congratulations on the closing. It took us months to sell our parents’ house, but the new owner seemed to appreciate the individual aspects of it as well as the fact that, like yours, it was ready for him to move in, no work required.
I love all your numbers yesterday. What a lot of comments. What a lot of blog entries, and what a lot of deserved appreciation. I have Linda’s pickles in my refrigerator right now.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Even before you said it, I was going to take a picture of the smallest and largest slips on the dolls…it will be quite a difference! :o)

The new owners were telling us they planned to remove the popcorn ceiling ….I sat there thinking about mine and Cindys aching neck after we painted it. I guess we painted it “to look good for the buyers…that’s all!” Oh well.

I need to make a batch of pickles too! It’s a good back to school recipe….”Hey mom…what’s in my lunch?” “Pickles!”
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Jeanne Brandon

Jeanne, Congratulations all around. To the recipients of the doll crinolines – YEA
AND a big congratulations to your Mom and family on the successful sale and closing of the house. Moving on is a big accomplishment. A re-inventing of one’s self. Blessings sent.
    Jeannie B. in TX

    1. HI Jeannie,
Thanks for your congrats to the slip winners and the house buyers and sellers! This has been an all around good day for all!!!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Congratulations to the winners. I’m sure you and your dolls will enjoy the lovely slips. How wonderful that you can put the house sale behind you and have time for other things.
The house has a great backyard. Plenty of room.

    1. HI Laura,
Yes, it’s a good feeling to have that chapter finished! I’m ready to turn the page!

Momma used to have a big picnic table out back that we ate at. I have some great pictures when my kids were little and playing out there.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Hi Jeanne,
What a lovely home to grow up in. The yard is huge and a perfect place for a big veggie garden. Did your mom keep a garden? I wished you a quick sale on your moms home and I can’t think of anyone I know that has closed quicker on a home … Congrats!
Speaking of congratulations… Congrats to the winners of those sweet little slips. I have a few they are so pretty, you will love them.
    Continued prayers
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
No, my mom never had a garden…she did grow some patio tomatoes but I think that was all.
She liked her flowers…her butterfly bush, her dwarf cherry tree, her hostas, her peonies, etc. She just mentioned to me this morning that she wished she could have a birdhouse…she lives on the 2nd floor and just has windows but no balcony.
My mom asked the realtor if this was the fastest house sale he had ever sold…I didn’t hear his answer to her…
      Thank you Ingrid,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. If your mom’s windows open, you might check to see if you can find a bird house with suction cups or a clamp you can put on the window for her to see. I think I’ve seen a long tray like feeder too that might work. My in-laws were bird watchers, so one holiday I made stained glass cardinal for them and another I did a pileated woodpecker.

        1. Thanks Christal,
I’ll have to check and see what the policy is for “window” stuff at momma’s new apartment. I think the windows do open but I’m not sure you are allowed to put stuff on the outside of them.
          Thanks for the suggestion though.
          Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Dear Jeanne, I am happy that the closing is moving along. The house looks very nice and the grounds are lovely. Your are taking your memories with you and new memories are waiting to be formed.
Congratulations to the winners. Actually we are all winners because she have the delightful place to come and share our stories and our lives. How wonderful is that!

    1. HI Dorothy,
It is nice to have good memories…no one can ever take those away from you…
I’m the biggest winner of all…I HAVE YOU ALL FOR FRIENDS!
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. What a lovely home and yard. I’m envious of all the lovely trees in front. We have a huge evergreen and some elms in back by our shop building (but they’re aging and some have died or have dead branches). And right now our yard is a disaster. I can’t wait for the next step of “finishing the house”. We’ve been sidetracked by family issues, health issues, and my classes. However, my hubby got out his whiteboard from when we built the house and started setting up a list, so I’m very encouraged. He’s had cataract removal and lens replacement on both eyes recently, and emerged more energetic about everything. It’s nice.

    1. HI Christal,
Thanks so much for the compliments on momma’s house and yard. I would love to be a little mouse and see what is going on over at her house today. I’m sure they started moving in, but I’d love to see it in action! :o)
It sounds like you might be getting some things done soon…that’s exciting! Keep us posted on what happens!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  15. PS I got sidetracked myself… Congratulations to all the winners and I hope you and your family enjoy the extra time you’ll have without a second home to care for.

    1. HI Christal,
Oh, let me tell you, we are most definitely going to enjoy the extra time… :o) :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne
