Continuing with the questions until I get home… this one might prove to be really fun with lots of great answers! We might end up with our very own “talent show” contestants! :o)
Let’s see what kind of answers we can get to….”What weird or useless talent do you have?”
Today is my hubby’s surgery day, so I might check in later, but he is my first priority. I will try to at least give an update or two in the comments below…the posts to follow were all scheduled ahead of time, as I knew I’d be at the hospital.
Thank you in advance for your prayers!
See you when I can,
Blessings, Jeanne
Well, this has been odd….I got this entry and the one about the grocery store in one email, and the two before that didn’t come at all. I have put one answer in each of them, and I think replied to one of Marilyn’s comments, too, in yesterday’s post, for anyone who wants to go back and look.
Weird or useless talent….hm…..the only thing I can think of offhand is that I can talk with my tongue tucked between my lower teeth and the inside of my mouth (below the lower lip). Back in the 1960s there was a silly story going around about “Herman the Worm”, only you talked that way when you told it, and it came out sounding like “hehman the verm”! (I still remember the story, too!) The silly things we do as kids….
I meant to add, Jeanne, thank you for letting us know when George’s surgery was, and how long it would take, and how extensive it would be. It enables me to pray more specifically for him, for you, and for the doctors.
And you know, I will be praying….
Here is my weird and useless talent, I can tie a knot in a maraschino cherry inside my mouth with my tongue. One time I even tied one in a square knot! Tah Dah! LOL!
Prayers keep going up!
I thought this was going to be the weirdest thing, but Susette says (below) that she can too. Was this a fad at some point? I mean, why would anyone think of trying this? I imagine I’ll find out before the end of the day.
Oh, I can do that too. Thanks for the reminder. Otherwise I guess a talent for shopping wouldn’t qualify as useless because one can get into too much trouble with that.
No weird talent for me, but just wanted to say I will keep you and George in my prayers.
Who would guess that you’d have blog entries ready for the long hospital stay. I’ll keep thinking about this one, but my first thought was, “If you teach, anything you know or can do is likely to be useful.” A friend who does magic has found it enormously useful in his substitute teaching career — there’s nothing like magic to make a class quiet down.
Memorial weekend is nearly here. When my grandfather died, someone sent a bouquet of huge light yellow mums in a metal florists’ basket. They came late, and for at least a day, we had them in the house — I suppose they made my dad feel better. He was a lot like George — he could fix anything and he built our house with his own hands and the help of my grandfather. He also liked flowers — they both did. Every year after that, he and Mom filled the basket and took it to the cemetery. About 10 years later, he decided to repaint the basket. On the bottom he found a sticker that said, “Please return to ….” By then my parents decided they were probably no longer expecting it — I think the store had closed or was in another town because the florist was unfamiliar.
When I returned to Colorado in May of 1980, they turned the arranging over to me. This is my 38th year for that basket, and the basket’s 59th year decorating my grandfather’s (and now my grandmother’s) grave. When my parents died, I found a duplicate on Ebay to use for them.
Marilyn, what a sweet story. Thank your for sharing it.
Wonder of wonders! I got TODAY’S blog TODAY, and in my email, where I normally get it! Hooray! Maybe things will get better!
I’m not sure if this is a talent, that is, something that I worked on to do, but I do have a sense of ESP! Not a talent, but sometimes very useful! It’s not like you can ask a question about something, and I will have an answer for you, but rather it is something that just pops in my mind that will happen, and it usually does! I think more of us have that than we think, but lots of times, I even get surprised about it.
Prayers for you as you go through this pre-surgery and the actual surgery. I know well enough, having had 2 surgeries this year. All the waiting around, I know, I know!
I’m looking forward to hearing from you in the blog as to how things are going, and how YOU are doing! Hang in there, sweet Jeanne!
I don’t know about talemts but I wanted to say I was thimking of you and George.
Take care. —
Talents not talmts and thinking not thimking. I never should post from my phone!
I wouldn’t call this a talent but rather a feeling of responsibility. Behind our house is a very busy road now that more neighborhoods are being built all around us. Unfortunately, many little critters get hit by cars. I ask my son to help me with this because it’s , well…gross. I don’t like to see these critters lay on the road forever, so my son and I remove them from the road and place them under roadside bushes or wherever we can find a remote hidden place. Then nature can continue and there’s respect for the animal.
It may be weird but I feel compelled to respect these unfortunate animals.
God bless you for your kindness, Paula. I knew someone else who did this. I love animals dearly, but I get too emotional over things. I do always bury animals and birds that sadly die in our yard and I pick up worms from the sidewalk and move them after it rains and they get flooded out.
Keeping you and George I my prayers.
Like Linda, today’s post arrived in my email like it always has in the past. Go figure. Must be a day of miracles which I’m sure will travel all the way to St. Louis. I know the surgery will be successful. We will be anxiously waiting to hear the good news that George is in recovery.
I can’t believe that Sissy and Susette can actually do that cherry stem knot. I’m lucky that I can even talk without spitting.
I guess I do have some talent in researching things from the past. In particular, those deceased many years ago. I love family history and often find things on the families of friends too. Nothing like searching a vague ships list to find the often misspelled name of a distant relative to get me going. It is so interesting to discover where someone lived so long ago, and perhaps even an address. Like that of my fourth great grandfather whose old home from the early 1800’s in Cheddar, England, is still there. Thank you Google.
Take care of yourself Jeanne, we’re all rooting for you and George.
Hi everyone,
I thought I’d let you know my hubby is in surgery now and will be for quite a while. We had a nice night at the hotel we stayed at …me and my microwaved dinner and he with his jello and ensure shake…
I have some friends sitting with me and my sister Deb, and her husband are coming soon.
When I hear more I’ll let you know….
Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne
Thanks for keeping us in mind, as you are in our thoughts.
Dear Jeanne, prayers continue.
Hi Sweet Jeanne,
Dominic is taking a nap so I thought I’d pop on to say I’m praying for George and feeling sure all will go according to Gods plan.
I’m so happy to hear you have family around you while George is in surgery. It would be such a long wait without company. Thanks for keeping us posted.
As for my weird and useless talent my hubby would say it’s always picking the slowest line… at the store… crossing over into Canada… drive thur banking… you name it I’ll pick the wrong line! LOL I have to laugh about it what else are you gonna do?!
I forgot about that talent, Ingrid. I have it too for the line that will take the longest. I sometimes even warn the person behind me so they won’t get stuck, too. I’m sure they think I’m crazy.
Thinking good thoughts and prayers for everyone in St. Louis today.
At first thought and all morning, I came up totally blank. I was leaning toward my useless talent is my memory.
By this afternoon, I remembered I DO have a completely useless talent! I can point the index finger on my right hand at the index finger on my left hand and then, using my wrists I make the right hand turn clockwise circles and the left hand turn counter-clockwise circles!
I’m not at all ambidextrous. T.V. wasn’t invented yet when I was a young child, so we had to have our own entertainment, and this kept me busy learning it for weeks upon weeks. 50 some years later here I sit, doing it again, LOL.
I’m praying, along with so many others, that the Lord blesses us with the very best outcome for George (and you) today, Jeanne.
May God Bless us all.
Love and big hugs, Ali
Hi again everyone,
I just got a call from the anesthesiologist saying the bladder, prostrate and lymph nodes are out…the dr is working on making the Ileal Conduit from a piece of his intestines and attaching it to his abdomen on his side and his urine will flow into a bag. I can’t wait to see him…
That’s all I know for now…
Blessings, Jeanne
So happy to get the update, Jeanne! I have been thinking about you all day. Best of all, the cancer is gone!
Prayers….
God bless you for your kindness, Paula. I knew someone else who did this. I love animals dearly, but I get too emotional over things. I do always bury animals and birds that sadly die in our yard and I pick up worms from the sidewalk and move them after it rains and they get flooded out.
Thank you for the update, Jeanne. Yesterday was my birthday so i didn’t see your post until quite late last night, but in time to say prayers for George.

Hmm, something really strange . It just posted my reply to Paula F. under her post as I intended and then also by itself as a separate comment. I also received an email asking me to confirm my subscription or whatever to your blog posts, Jeanne even though I’ve been chatting here for I think three years now or slightly more?
I was so glad to see an update on your hubby. Yesterday was my 50th birthday so I didn’t see your post until very late, but I was praying for George.
As for a weird or useless talent, I guess I will go with the fact that I can flip my tongue completely over upside down one way and then the other and also curl it up like a straw. I know it is a genetic trait to be able to do that.
Laura, Happy Birthday! I hope you had a great celebration!
Happy birthday Laura!!
I read one time you either Can curl your tongue or you can Not…it’s not something you learn, it’s inborn in you! Our son can, we can’t.
We are definitely getting some weird talents.
I know you’ll let us know when you have time and know more. I’m sure we are all thinking of you.
The clerk at the post office was well decorated with tattoos — I’m guessing she’s between 50 and 60. I thought of you because she had the word “blessed” on one wrist. The word “worthy” was tattooed on the other.
So glad to see your updates Jeanne and praying for God’s blessing on all.
Thank you for the updates, Jeanne–as it happens, I was praying for you both just about the times of your updates (and was not on the computer until about an hour ago, so had no idea….).
Prayers continue.
My useless talent but it still amazed by grand children.
I can use and write with both hands.
But what makes it more useless is I can write with both hands at the same time. Or with my prominent hand, I am left handed, at the same time. So I can sign my name using both hands at the same time. Not sure how this one was came about but I was young, maybe 8, I can write with the paper upside down and when it turn it around it is perfect.
