How to Navigate my Website…

If you’ve been a follower of my blog, you may have already read this “archived” post, but a few people have emailed about things they were wondering and then just today, Ingrid asked how to go back and read some previous posts… or how to start at the beginning of my blog. I started blogging on August 1st, 2014 and didn’t miss a single day for the first 2 years. Then I decided to take Sunday’s off… and try to post most every day but then.

I’ve picked up some “newbie” followers and thought I’d put a condensed version of that earlier post with “just the information for navigating” without all the rest of the post…trying not to make it TOO wordy!

Let’s just start at the beginning…
If you are reading this page, I can assume you’ve already found me, but now what do you do? There is a place at the right side bar that will ask you if you’d like to subscribe to my daily blog posts and be notified when I list new things for sale. It looks like this…It’s a 2 step process. You fill out the information and then I believe you have to confirm it in your email…

I generally try to stick with dolly and sewing posts, but sometimes when my life gets busy I throw in a post about family, something going on in my life, a decorating project, a recipe, etc. If you hang on, it always gets back to dolls and sewing.

You can read the daily blog posts 2 different ways…one, where it looks like this, which is my actual website page:

CIMG0952

or two, where it comes in your email and looks like this, with the title of the post in blue letters:

CIMG0947

If you choose to read it from your email, you can read it just like any other email, but some things on this page aren’t the same as they are on my actual website page. Here are some tips if you read it this way…

Down at the very bottom of the email version, there are the last 5 posts and any of them may be opened by clicking on them.

CIMG0950

Sometimes I refer to things on the “right side bar” but it’s at the bottom of the “email” version with the blue letters.

As I mentioned above, if you’d like to go to the actual website/blog post, click on the blue title… like this…

CIMG0948

and the page will change to this:

CIMG0952

Most people like the website version best. Plus you can see all the comments at the bottom or leave one yourself! :o)

HOW TO READ OTHER POSTS…or START AT THE BEGINNING…
If you’d like to see all of my posts or start at the beginning, you can click on the BLOG Tab just under my header.

CIMG0936

This will bring up ALL my posts, one stacked on top of the other. Yesterday’s post is below today’s post and day before yesterday’s post is below that one. See, here is the bottom of a post with the top of the previous day before it.

CIMG0953

If you want to start at the beginning of my blog posts, click on that BLOG tab and you’ll find there are 4 posts to a page so if you scroll down and down and down, you’ll eventually come to the bottom of that page where you’ll find some little numbers… and if you click on them you can go backwards to the beginning of my blog…(if you like!) I think I’m at 449 pages now…

CIMG0957

If you want to leave a comment about today’s post (or any other posts), you’ll find that at the bottom of each post. If you are the first person to leave a comment, it will say, “Leave a comment” but if others have already left some, it will look like this:

CIMG0955

Just click where it says (10 comments or whatever) and leave your comments, then click “Post comment.”

As I was putting this post together, I saw this next picture and realized my little icons for Pinterest, Etsy, flickr and Ebay were missing. They were normally below the pictures on the right side bar. I must have edited them at one time and took them off. I will work at getting them added back in. They allow you to straight to those areas of mine.

CIMG0988

Reading either way, occasionally you might see the word “HERE” highlighted in blue… and if you click on that, it will take you to another
post I have written. If you do click on it, just hit the back button and it will return you to the blog.

CIMG0949

If you’ve ever seen this list of all these words at the right, those are called “tags.” You can click on those and it will bring up all the posts where the word you picked is mentioned. (ie) If you click on Ten Ping, any post where I’ve mentioned her, will come up.

CIMG0990

If you ever want to “search” for something on my blog…(Ten Ping, Civil War Dress, Addy, Pink dresses), just type your words in the green SEARCH box at the right side bar.

I have also added the last 10 recent posts at the right side bar. You can click on any of them and that post will open up.

Now, back up to the header…if you want to “check me out” click on ABOUT ME…

CIMG0937

If you want to see pictures of all my dolls in one outfit that they chose… click GALLERY:

CIMG0938

If you want to see the dolls I have, click MY DOLLS…

CIMG0939

My daughter, Rebecca, makes necklaces for the American Girl dolls so I gave her a little area called “BECCA’S CORNER.” Click on it to see a sample of her work, and then there is a link to our Etsy shop as well…(but don’t get your hopes up…I’ve been very negligent in getting our shop filled back up with necklaces, fingerless gloves, pantalettes and an occasional doll dress. I’m hoping to do better soon.)

CIMG0940

If you need to get a hold of me to ask a question that you don’t necessarily want everyone to see in the “comments” section, use the “CONTACT ME” and send it to me.

CIMG0941

Okay, as I look back over this I think it looks like too much information, but I hope it helps. If you have any questions or think of something I have left out, please let me know…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Yes dear Jeanne you can say Emmie’s dress is cute! You create the sweetest wee dresses with unbelievable puffed sleeves. No mean feat.
I meant to write yesterday about a little girl I met in a downpour. She was in the library foyer with a friend. I have an umbrella which springs into action (or inaction) when you tap it onto the ground, very useful. This little girl, about 10, ginger plaits, was captivated and I let her play with my umbrella for a while. As I moved off she said that when she grew up and got a job the first thing she was going to buy was a magic umbrella. I think of her every time it rains heavily. I’m sure she will do well in life.
Thank you for your navigation tips.
Many good wishes and prayers for both you and George, hope he is more comfortable today.

Good for you, Jeanne–I’m glad you are getting at least a Little sewing in!! I’ll look forward to seeing Emmie’s dress.

Good idea, to remind us how to navigate your blog! I know you’ve gotten a lot of new readers since you first posted this.

    Prayers continue!

  3. Well, goodness, I didn’t know you had a post yesterday! Since I receive your posts in my email, there was nothing there, but today both yesterday’s and today’s are in my inbox!

Oh the weather!!! Since we live so close, we had the same weather as you did, rain, rain, rain! We had rivers and streams all over the neighborhood, and puddles everywhere! However, it’s Spring today, so the trees and flowers will soon be coming! In fact, we have some daffodils and magnolias blooming already, but really it seems too soon, because we always get a cold snap, but it sure makes things look promising!

Since I get your blog in my email, I get onto the website by clicking onto “Read in browser” at the bottom of the page, in blue letters. I had no idea there was another way, and have no idea how I came across that, because you didn’t mention that. Whatever it takes to get to your blog, will get me there!

You and George are in my prayers, and I hope things get more comfortable in the coming days. I hope you enjoyed the pictures I sent and it gave you a “picker upper”!
    Much love, and hugs!

  4. What a useful post — I think I had figured out how to navigate most things but this serves as a good reference.
Of course you can say your own dress is adorable. It tell us that it is probably really adorable since you don’t usually say so. I’m glad you have found a little time to sew. Not so that you can write about it to share with us (although that is wonderful) but so that you have that time for yourself. It is important for you to take care of yourself. It is easy to forget that during this difficult time but you have to remember to take care of yourself too.
Hope you have a great day!
    Take care –

  5. I do a search for I Dream of Jeanne Marie to get to the blog, but because so few sites start with an I, usually that’s all I have to type in. Sometimes the blog appears, and sometimes it only flashes, leaving me with a nice empty brocade screen. Then I scroll to the end and slowly move back up, and information begins to appear. At the top is the day’s blog. If that doesn’t work, sometimes I can get to the list of most recent blog titles and click on the top one, and that gets me to the day’s entry.
The things in the “right column” appear at the bottom of my screen, but that’s great because all of your pictures are full screen (no need to click) or nearly, so I get to see everything close up and detailed.
I’m going to enjoy having you check in now and then during the week. George is the most important thing — I was going to say “right now” but of course he’s at the top of the list always, which is where he belongs. It’s so nice that you’ve shared his work and interests with us.
I do look forward to hearing from you when you have time to post. Keep taking care of both of you.

  6. Yes, do take care, Jeanne…your health is important too. Thanks for thinking of all of us despite the fact you have many cares of your own at this point.

It was really thoughtful of you to re-post this posting about navigating your site. You are so thorough in all you do.

    Prayers for both of you.

  7. I missed the blog yesterday too. That was a great idea to post how to navigate your site. The blue line might add a note at the end to click for Comments. It took a little while for me to find that did the trick when I first started reading the Blog. I read all of them after a while.

Here’s the weather in South of Los Angeles Southern California for today: Low clouds in the morning and up to a high of 70 and sunny the rest of the day. In North of Los Angeles Southern California where my son lives in Santa Barbara, a deluge is expected. He lives on flat land pretty far from the mountains but the flood control ditches fill up with that much rain. Hoping for the best but glad some people are being evacuated.

Thanks for the informative post. We’re all thinking of you.

  8. Weather post never showed yesterday. Oh well, yesterday’s news. Today we’re supposed to get some sprinkles here in northern CA. Has warmed up a bit so the heater is working. It hasn’t been on those very cold days.
Hope George is feeling better today. No working on that ceiling for awhile please.
Can’t wait to see Emmie’s dress. I need motivation to sew something myself for the dollies. They are all sitting here staring and imploring me to please get to work.
And it’s on to Easter. Coming up so fast. Don’t overdo please.

  9. Dear Jeanne, thanks for this easy to read information. I am tech-challenged and I always appreciate clear instructions.
I am happy that you are sewing, doing something that will give you (and Emmie) joy. It’s important for caregivers to take care of themselves.
    Prayers continue.

  10. Oh gee, yesterday’s post never showed for me, either! Sorry to have missed it, but happy to receive today’s informative one about navigating your website, and happier still that you’ve discovered some time for sewing, Jeanne. I few minutes “found” each day for something you enjoy will boost your well-being. We’ll look forward to the reveal of Emmie’s adorable new creation!

The weather here yesterday was quite nice, with sunshine and mild temperatures. Today is gray and rainy with chilly winds, and there is snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Surprise, that’s Ohio weather! But today is the first day of Spring, filled with all the promise of the season. The daffodils and hyacinths are in bloom, and the trees, shrubs, and grass are putting out new shoots. I think we’re all ready for the blessing of new life and new beginnings.

Happy Spring, Jeanne! Wishing you and George continued strength as you take the next steps of your journey.

  11. Dear, Jeanne,
I get your posts by email, but I always access you site by typing idreamofjeannemarie.com into Google. Since I got a laptop instead of my PC I now have your site bookmarked under the Google icon and just click on that. I missed the post as well, didn’t assume you would have time to post. I actually did go back at one point and read all the post, but now I can search for Civil War dresses and ogle them to my heart’s content.
It’s nice that you find a little time to work on Emmie’s dress. Even in the midst of things you still need something cheerful to focus on. I know we’ll enjoy seeing whatever sewing you can manage.
The weather was lovely yesterday, low 50’s and lots of sun. Unfortunately, family obligations kept me indoors all day. Today was cloudy and much colder and I ended up outside a fair bit. Wish I would have been able to reverse things.
Take care and many prayers for George.
