Usually inspiration comes from someplace other than yourself, but not in this case. The more I worked on Elizabeth’s new blue Regency dress, the more I remembered a bonnet, or cap, that I had made once before for a Regency gown. I found it in my archives, all the way back in 2013. It was another pretty gown that used the same lace around the hem of it too…you’ll see. The bonnet is the part I was mostly inspired by. It was one of my very favorite Regency gowns and isn’t necessarily a replica, but you’ll see the similarities… Here’s the one from 2013…I don’t know why, but I think of this as a little Juliet cap…
If you click on the pictures they will enlarge.
Now, here’s the bonnet I sort of replicated. I only have her gloves to do and I think I’ll be finished…
I hope you enjoyed the comparison…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
That was fun! I remember that dress. What did you call it? Maybe that will help inspire the new name too. Your pictures are beautiful. Did you curl Elizabeth’s hair just for this outfit?
Hi Marilyn,
That Regency dress was called “Details Matter” and it did have plenty of them. Elizabeth has the thickest hair of any doll I’ve ever owned so all I have to do is take a doll wig brush and curl it around my fingers and it does whatever I like… I’m very happy to have her as my Regency model.
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, Jeanne, you can even inspire yourself! Yes, that little cap is the perfect accompaniment for this outfit, and looks just darling! Unlike Marilyn, I don’t remember the original dress, but I probably was only collecting for Molly at that time. I didn’t even look at other dolls until I got everything I wanted for a particular doll.
Hope you had a good weekend, I did, but it was a bit too humid to do much outside.
Hi Linda,
I’m glad you saw a dress today that you don’t remember. I’m also glad you’ve branched out from just looking at Molly things!
Yes, it’s been too humid to suit me!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Your work is enchanting, Jeanne. These two bonnets (archived and new) are really lovely with their respective dresses.
Blessings.
Thank you Becky,
I’m glad you liked both bonnets. Now I’ll to see what else I did that I can copy…
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
I think it is a perfect little bonnet for the dress. Your inspiration bonnet is beautiful as well. I might know why you think of it as a Juliet cap. They are very similar to the little caps that Olivia Hussey wore in the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet. Perhaps that is why you think of it as Juliet? In any case, your little cap is just precious.
Hope you have a good day.
Take care.
Thank you for your kind compliments, Charlotte,
I can’t even remember what Juliet’s cap looked like in Romeo and Juliet, but it must have been stuck somewhere in my brain.
I’m glad you liked it.
Blessings, Jeanne
Charlotte’s memory of 1968 Romeo & Juliet brings back such memories. Loved that!
Dress is looking remarkable and just perfect.
No humidity here. Beautiful day ahead.
HI Joy,
Thanks for the “non humid” comments! I wish I could send you some of our humidity! It’s like a sauna out there!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
I remember your featuring that dress and/or bonnet in another post. I think the cap is darling and the blue farming Elizabeth’s face really sets off her eyes to perfection. It’s good that you keep photos of all your creations so that you can look back and even inspire yourself.
Your comment the other day about not needing Caroline. You are probably right. Elizabeth makes a lovely Regency girl and Caroline’s eyes would limit you to the seafoam/ aqua green colors. She could never wear this. I think her birthday dress that AG made was the wrong color choice as well as her coat. The only dress that complemented her eyes was that holiday gown and IMO it was too shiny/modern. It all depends on which doll you prefer and the context in which you place her. Can’t wait to see this one all finished and hear where Elizabeth is off to.
HI Laura,
Anything blue really does work well for Elizabeth.
I have to admit I check the “Caroline” listings almost daily, and I’m not sure why… I really don’t need her with Elizabeth as pretty as she is and her hair is probably much easier to do things with than what I’ve heard about Caroline’s.
Well, it’s all finished now! Time to think of who’s next, I guess.
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
