Nyssa’s “Christmas Cheer” dress revealed…

Nyssa is one very happy young lady! I finished her Christmas dress and she’s not the least bit interested in getting down from my cutting table. I’m sure she’ll keep this set on till someone buys it….then I’ll have to break the news to her that she’ll have to give it up and get back in her box…that’s not going to be a fun conversation…anyone else want to tell her???

Okay, so let’s see what she’s so excited about…
You all last saw the dress partially constructed but the “embellishing” part was missing. I added the buttons in double breasted style down the front for a little different look rather than just a single row down the center.

A band of bias cut micro check in black and white was added as a belt. It’s attached so it’s not going anywhere. I made a fun little bow in the back, but there’s no tying it…it just “snaps and looks pretty!” Black buttons run down the back and are covering hidden snaps.

After I got the dress finished, Nyssa said she wanted a slip, so I made her one from black tulle with a little red bow.

Then she asked me if I could make her a bonnet from some red wool felt. I obliged her on that too and decorated it very sweetly with the last of my favorite looped trim. It ties under her chin with a black sheer ribbon.

As if that wasn’t enough, she asked me for one more thing… could she have a jacket since she had a bonnet? I wanted originally to make her a black velvet jacket, but I used a crinkled velvet and it turned out too stretched out. I decided to revamp my pattern and made a trial jacket in the green felt.

It was better, but still not quite right to go over the puffed sleeves on her dress. I revised my pattern to add a little more fullness in the under arm area and cut it out of a gray wool felt.

It fit wonderfully this time and then it was just the decorating part I had to do after I got the edges all taken care of. I think it looks sweet on Nyssa and she said it was just what she was hoping for. That’s good, because it’s after midnight again and I’m ready to call it quits.

We got her wig on, her socks and black boots and had a nice photo shoot… I hope everyone likes her new dress. I’m sorry she’s been neglected in her box for such a long time. She really is a stunning doll and very fun to sew for. Thanks for voting her the Number 2 doll you wanted to see in a Christmas dress from me. Your votes for her forced me to make this pretty outfit for her.
