Janie and I need your help….

I ran out of Satellite data again…( I get 10 gigs a month) and have to wait until Thursday for it to reload again. UGH! It still works but it’s slower than molasses and I keep getting these weirdo symbols on my website… when it does this, I just have to wait a while and come back later. A lot of my data is used up when I upload all my pictures… and needless, to say, the fewer pictures I load, the faster it goes… so this post will be sort of short… but I hope you’ll still enjoy it and participate…

I decided that one of my Dianna Effner Little Darling girls would be the next up to model a new dress… Guess who yelled the loudest, “PICK ME!?” You guessed it…Janie! This sweet, usually shy little thing started hollering and raising her hands..both of them…and so I HAD to pick her. I asked her to find the wig she’d like to wear as she modeled her new dress and and she picked this long red one that already had some braids in it. (I’m not sure if we’ll leave the braids in, but we settled on the wig…)

Next she jumped in ONE of my Dolly Toy Boxes (Yes, it has expanded to three!) and wanted to pick her toy right away… I told her we had to pick out the fabric first and then she could see what “went” with it…

“Okay” she said reluctantly.

CIMG9978

So we began the arduous task of deciding on a fabric… we looked at LOTS…and I do mean LOTS… the problem was, she picked this one, and I said, “nah” and then I picked one and she said, “nah.” So we need your help… We have narrowed it down to 2…a dark blue print and a bright apple green print. I won’t tell you now who picked which one, so as not to “influence” your decision, but we need some help deciding.

I’m not sure what style dress I’ll make out of them… again, it depends on what fabric is chosen. It will most likely be just a pretty little summery dress… my favorite kind to make…

Okay so here are your choices…

or…

Let us know which fabric you like best by leaving a comment or shooting me an email with your choice. We’ll be watching all day to see what you all like best… then I’ll tell you which fabric Janie picked and which one I picked…

Thanks for your help…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

The green would make a cute summer play outfit, but I like the blue better. Maybe it would make something sort of Anne of Green Gables, always a favorite. Or….
It’s 12:14 my time, and already you have a challenge. I guess we’ll see what everyone else likes by this time tomorrow.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Thanks for playing along and helping guess what color fabric should be used for Janie’s next dress. So far it’s about 50/50 so this could get interesting… I may have to ask my very own redhead, Rebecca, what she likes best!
      Thanks so much,
      blessings, Jeanne

  2. Definitely the blue print. The green print is just to busy and Janie jus gets los in it. Needs a little larger girl to wear that green print.

    1. Thank you Lynne,
I’ve got you down for the blue print… we’ll have to see how things go from here…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Oh gee, so many “if’s” about your fabric choice!! Both colors certainly accent her red hair, and I was wondering what pattern you are using, is it a play outfit or a dressy one? I am hemming and hawing over what to pick, but I do think the blue would be best for a dress. The green would work as an accent material, like making patchwork pockets on a solid colored piece, collar accent, cuffs, etc., .

By the way, the sun came out yesterday right on cue, so we had the opening ceremonies in the sunshine—-and the Cards WON!!

    1. HI Linda,
I know it really wasn’t fair picking a fabric, without knowing what’s going to be made out of it… but it will just be one of my sweet little girl dresses. We’ll have to see what happens when everyone voices their opinion…

I did see that the weather cleared up just in time! Did you GO to the game or watch it on TV?
      Thanks so much Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. oh, I really like the green! it goes SO nicely with her coloring!

I have to admit – I adopted a new dolly – she arrived yesterday…. the ‘fun’ you’ve had with your Ten Ping was contagious…but – I wanted a little *happy* girl… so, I adopted Gigi – her friend… we’ve been examining fabrics together, too…. what a joy! (aka – ”chore”! LOL!!)

    1. Hi Mary,
OH BIG congrats on getting Gigi! You will spoil her rotten like I have Ten Ping… Did you pick out your first fabric for her first dress yet? It’s hard isn’t it?
Thanks for playing along with my fabric “game” and casting your vote for the green!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Charlotte Trayer

I had to get Gigi, too, Mary C., for the same reasons!! I do like her sweet little face. I haven’t had a chance to sew for her yet, though. Soon, I keep promising her–soon!!

  5. Good morning, Jeanne! My vote is for the blue, because blue is my favorite color, the color of the sky on a clear summer day. Blue contrasts nicely with Janie’s red braids and already coordinates with her blue hair ribbons! I was happy to see the listing for Addy’s outfit. Her flowered dress is just lovely, another fine testament to your design skills! As always, it’s the details that set your creations apart, Jeanne. I think that is true of design and of style. My son used to work for Nordstrom in men’s suits where he often was asked to serve as stylist, and it was always the details that had customers returning again and again — interesting ties, cutting edge lapel pins, fun socks, the fold of a pocket square. The trick was to showcase one element as “the star,” and let the other elements be the supporting cast. Balance and editing are so important. Coco Chanel once said before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and remove one accessory. If you ever watch Project Runway, it often seems the designers have plenty of ideas, but often fail to edit them. You have achieved the perfect balance with Addy’s charming outfit, Jeanne. BTW, if you or any of your readers are looking for an AG Felicity Doll to add to their collection, the Dolls of Our Childhood website has a nice used one for for sale for $50. She is clean, no marks, her hair is not frizzy, though it will need styled, and she can hold a pose w/o support. Happy Tuesday to everyone!

    1. HI Anne,
Thanks so much for your compliments on Addy’s dress and your vote for the blue fabric. I see you put a lot of thought into your choice… and I bet your son was a very good stylist in that men’s clothing store! I bet his mama taught him a thing or two!
      Thank you Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh oh oh! I forgot to mention the blue of Janie’s eyes! The blue fabric intensifies them. Definitely the blue fabric!

  7. Hi Jeanne,

The blue fabric is beautiful against Janie and her wig, but I prefer the green fabric…summer romping, light spirits, playful…perhaps toned down with some solids. But, both are lovely choices.

    Have fun and take care.

    1. HI Becky,
This might get interesting to see which color wins out! Thanks for playing along!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Becky,
You never know what combination I might put together!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I say definitely the green polka dot! The red in the dots matches her hair, and the blue matches her eyes. It’s such a fun print for summer, and with all the colors, you can calm it down with some solid accents. I think it will make into a very cute and modern outfit. Love those red braids!!!

    1. HI Karen,
Thanks for your vote on the green fabric. Janie is really wondering which one is going to win out and she wants me to get started right away… I need to figure out what to do with each print if it wins! I love her in those braids too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I think it depends on what style you are going for…. the green dot looks more playful and casual. the blue looks dressier and elegant. What style does Janie want to wear?

    1. HI Beth,
I haven’t exactly asked Janie if she wants dressy or casual…I guess I need to find out!
      Thanks for playing along!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. I’m usually a blue person, but for a light bright Spring/Summer outfit, I think the green dots will be the best choice. If you add another fabric in the blue tone, Janie’s eyes will pop. I think a fun play outfit is in order. There are so many cute little things out right now in the kids department for examples. Although know you probably have something already in mind. This one should be fun.

    1. Thank you Joy,
So you decided on the green, huh? It’s still about 50/50 now… so this might be really close!
I actually don’t have anything in mind just yet, but better decide on something pretty quick!
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. The blue, definitely the blue. It matches Janie’s eyes. The green looks spring/summer, but it just doesn’t seem to complement Janie’s coloring, maybe it just the shade. I like the idea of a Anne of G.G look.
Oh, wow, THREE dolly toy boxes?! How do your dolls ever decide? *smiles*

    1. Thank you Laura,
You are the second person to mention an Ann of Green Gables look… I’ve never done that for the Little Darlings… so that might be fun…
Yes, 3 dolly toy boxes… well, one box is only teddy bears, so that makes it easier…if they don’t want a bear, we move on to the other boxes… :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Hi Jeanne,
Hard to decide on which fabric. The blue looks more formal and the green print, more playful. Since I don’t have a Little Darling (yet), I won’t vote. It’ll probably depend on your pattern. “I’m no help!” Love Janie’s red wig though.
    Have a wonderful day!

    1. HI Paula,
You say the same thing quite a few others have said… blue is dressier, the green is more casual or playful… so we’ll have to see what happens…
I did have a wonderful day… hope you did too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Oh my goodness, you didn’t make it easy did you :0)
The blue makes her eyes pop but the green polka dot looks like summer so I guess my vote is for the green one.

Will be fun to see how the voting comes out!

    1. HI Kathie,
Well, did didn’t mean for this to be hard… blue or green, I thought one of the colors would be picked more frequently, but so far it’s pretty even… I better get my patterns thought of so I can get cookin’ on whichever one gets picked…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. I was hoping to get through all of the comments and not have someone suggest my idea: Use both with one of them for the trim. I trust your imagination as I’ve seen what you’ve done in the past with fabrics that I never thought would compliment each other. There really is blue in the polka dot fabric. Maybe a cute, playful sun suit outfit.

The Addy dress ensemble is a testament to your artistry and ability to carry out your design. Go Jeanne!

    1. HI Susette,
I think if you could see the fabrics in person, you’d see that they really can’t be used together… they are slightly different color tones… but that’s a good suggestion and I’m surprised no one else said it too… Thanks for the suggestion though… the next time I give a choice I might make sure they compliment each other so maybe they could be used together if it’s a tie vote.
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on Addy’s dress. I really like how it turned out in the end…not so much at the beginning of the week. I was a little worried that it might never be finished!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Patricia,
I appreciate that you took time to vote for the green.. you just cancelled out Theresa’s vote for blue…so it’s still a tie!
      Isn’t that interesting?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  15. I like the green fabric! In fact, I like it so well I have some in my stash. It will look good with the red wig also. I’m sure you’ll make something nice with whichever one you use.

    1. HI Carolyn,
So we think alike in our fabric choices, huh? Your vote for the green puts this at a tie! Oh dear… I need some more votes!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  16. Okay, here’s my 5 cents worth (adjusted for inflation)… I agree with several others that the blue looks more formal and the green more playful, so it depends on the dress. But if my arm is being twisted, I’ll go with the blue, because even though it looks plain as is, I’ve seen what you can do with design and trim and coordinating fabrics and embellishments and such, so I think you can be more flexible with the blue. Whew!! That was tough! 🙂

I’ve been waiting for a new LD dress, so I’m excited to see what you come up with!

    1. Thank you Theresa,
I love everyone’s 5 cents worth of wisdom when helping me choose fabric for the next doll dress. So thank you very much for giving your opinions… I’ve got you down for blue and thank you so much for your very kind compliments on my doll dresses. I truly appreciate them.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  17. Charlotte Trayer

Even though I’m not normally fond of that shade of green, I really prefer it to the blue for a summer dress. I am seeing something like a sundress, trimmed with either white rickrack or white eyelet trim. Perhaps matching bloomers underneath, so she can play without revealing her underwear! 😉 And finish the look with white sandals.

And then….you could save the blue and make her a back-to-school dress in the fall!!

    Charlotte

    1. HI Charlotte,
Well, the voting is over and the blue won… sorry… but Janie will still look pretty in the blue… now if I can just pull off the perfect little dress for her…
I’ll have to do a play dress out of the green sometime… it seems everyone who picked the green saw it as a play dress or a play set of some kind…
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  18. P.Z. Mimi James

I’m always one to choose blue. It reminds me of the ocean. The green polka dot reminds me of a 1930s fabric. However….if you really want Civil War Fabric, find the real stuff.

    1. HI P.Z. Mimi,
You are just like my hubby… blue..through and through…
Thanks for your comments… Blue won and so now I must get started on her dress…
      Blessings, Jeanne
