Well, Molly has made a great impression on her “sisters” and my girls were very gracious to let her get dibs on the sewing table and model a new dress. But first we put a few curls in her hair…nothing drastic, but just calmed down the ones that were a little out of control. I just dampened her hair and did some finger rolls and used a bobbie pin to secure them.
This is how her hair looked when she arrived here yesterday…not bad but just a bit unruly…
So here’s a few pictures of the process…
So now we wait for it to dry…and then remove the finger curls.
It’s not a big difference and I’d like to try it again with some rollers and see if I could get more distinct curls.
Okay, so now we’re going to move onto Molly’s new debut dress…I let her pick out the pattern and this is what she chose…
We got the pieces cut out and the lining in white…
So now it’s time to play with a few ideas about how to make the dress…
We definitely decided on a black featherwale corduroy collar and cuffs.
Molly’s first fitting…
Sleeves in …
The dress was pretty short and I didn’t want to have any more of the fabric used up so I added a fun red and white polka dot sheer cotton to the hem to use as little as I could. It was then hemmed by hand.
The snaps were added and we’re seeing the finish line just ahead!!
Oh and I’m going to be “terribly mean” and make you wait till tomorrow for the final reveal… but here’s a teaser shot…
I’m sure you see that Molly has found my “Dolly Toybox…” Her sister’s told her all about it. If you missed that post, click HERE to see it.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Molly looks like she is fitting in perfectly with your crew of American Girl dolls and is taking her new modeling job seriously. Your dress is looking so cute. I love how she picked out a girls’ dress pattern and it just happened to be in her size. Can’t wait to see the finished dress tomorrow!
HI Cindy,
Yes, Molly IS fitting in very well, and most of all, I just adore her looks. She has so much more color to her face and it just looks differently to me than my old Molly. Maybe it’s the glasses being gone, but whatever, I’m having fun just looking at her.
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Molly is just so cute, makes me want an AG doll. The dress is adorable so far, can’t wait to see the final showing tomorrow…I just love little girl dresses.
HI Regina,
What??? You don’t have an AG doll yet? You need to save your nickles and get one ASAP!!! You won’t be sorry… just find one on Ebay that is lower priced, but still nice… that’s where my Molly came from…
I love “Little Girl Dresses” too!!
Thanks Regina,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I think I will save my nickels and keep my eye out for a Molly on Ebay. I have a vintage Chatty Cathy that I sew for, but Molly is just too cute.
I wish I could sew like you…sigh. Molly’s dress is wonderful! I can’t wait to see the reveal!
Thank you Jane,
Do you sew at all? If so, just keep practicing… I’ve been doing it a long time… you can only get better with experience…
Thanks for the compliment…
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh dear! I just wrote a nice long message, and pffft! it’s gone! Here we go again!
I too can’t wait to see the reveal of that darling dress for Molly! What a bright, cheerful color for the holiday seasons ahead!
What I mentioned previously, about Molly’s hair, well, my Molly’s hair looks just like that when I brush it and have it down. Most all of the time, it is in braids, and now when she does have her hair down, for special occasions, I gently take out the braids, and just fluff it out a bit without brushing or combing, and that keeps her fine, wispy hair in place pretty well. Someone on Playthings actually pin curled her hair with bobby pins, like Molly did in her story about the Miss Victory play, now, I mean a LOT of bobby pins, and it turned out so well. Her hair was just beautifully curled!
Whatever you do, I’m sure Molly will look just darling in that dress!
HI Linda,
I’ve got the dress finished and the big reveal should be tomorrow… if all goes right!! I was pleased with her dress too… and think she looks very pretty in red. I guess she’ll be my “kick off” girl for the Holiday dresses to come…
I wanted to do little pin curls on her head, but didn’t have enough bobby pins. I think I’ll put some bobby pins on my shopping list and try again…
I like her hair down, even though it is a little wavy, I think it frames her face better.
I did it just like you…no brush or comb, just used my fingers…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I too, can’t wait for the reveal. The color is so nice and will be so pretty on your new Molly.
Your new Molly is very beautiful. and I’m glad her sisters welcomed her.
Judi
Thank you Judi,
I hope everyone likes how it turned out… Molly sure likes it! I do too!
