What? The Tea Cup did what?
The Tea Cup I “USED” to make Ten Ping a hat worked perfectly… Let me show you!
Here is the tea cup I bought at Goodwill “thinking” it might fit Ten Ping’s head and then I could make her a hat mold and eventually a hat!
I used some air-dry clay and pushed it into the cup that was lined with saran wrap…
Then I let it dry… and took it out. I sanded the impressions from the heart openings on the cup.
Today I painted it with Mod Podge and let it dry…
Then I was anxious to try and see if the hat I planned to make would fit Ten Ping’s head…
IT DID!!!!
Whenever I make a hat I measure out 5 yards of my hat straw and put a safety pin at the 5 yard mark. Then I make the hat and see how much I am short of the 5 yards… then I write the yardage down on the inside of my hat so I’ll know next time how much it takes to make that hat… This one took 4 yards including the ruching along the edge.
Then I decided to see what I could come up with for a dress to match those pink shoes… I didn’t get very far because my hubby needed me today for a few things… one was a haircut…
I decided to make a pink and white checked dress with the skirt having the pink tulle on top… it’s not together yet, but I’ve taken a few pictures of what I’ve done so far… I was going to make puffed sleeves for the dress, but the hearts are kind of hard to gather up and look nicely, so I may end up with just a ruffle on the dress armhole…
I grabbed a few of my pink parchment flowers to see how this tan hat would look with pink flowers…they are just sitting on the hat…
Then I found another pink flower to see how it looked…
Well, that’s all I have for today… gotta get to bed…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne Marie, milliner extraordinaire!! That hat is perfect for TenPing. And I love what’s going on with the dress fabrics. I know a certain little girl here who will love it, too! Every time Jeanne makes something pink, Gigi thinks it’s just for her! I have tried to explain that other people get to bid, too, and that mommy can’t buy Everything she wants!! ππ€£π
I replied to a couple of comments yesterday, people asking about my coming trip. But will also add something here.
I grew up in the Upper Peninsula (“the U.P.”) of Michigan, and it’s my favorite place in the whole world. So many beautiful sites–lots of waterfalls, a fabulous fresh-water spring, two of the Great Lakes, etc. If you’re interested, there’s a Facebook page called “Michigan’s Upper Peninsula” and there are LOTS of pictures there!
However, this trip I’ll only be in the lower peninsula, specifically Flint (my best friend of 70+ years lives there), Jackson (my uncle’s celebration of life, and I’ll see his kids and their families), and a suburb of Detroit (a couple of cousins from my mom’s side of the family). I would have liked to have been there long enough to rent a car and drive to the UP (where I have 4 cousins, three in the greater Marquette area and one in the Escanaba area), but I didn’t want to be gone more than one Sunday. I am it for music at our little church, and one of the gals is going to try to do the hymns the Sunday I’m gone. I didn’t want to throw two Sundays in a row at her right off the bat. Maybe I can get to the UP either later this summer or next year.
Candy: someone mentioned Necco wafers, a staple of my childhood! Daddy would buy a roll before a trip, and when we got a little restless, he’d pull them out (esp. if mom was taking a turn at driving) and the announcement would come, “Okay, purple is next, who wants a purple one? Next up is green. Who would like that one?” and so on. Paul and I fought over who got the brown (chocolate) ones as we both loved them! I was really happy, a number of years ago, when they came out with rolls of nothing but brown Neccos!! I have them on hand all the time, even now. Just finished eating one, in fact!
Charlotte! You are a Yooper! How very wonderful.
I love UP very much. My sister in law, hubbs sister, lives in Marquette.
In fact, back in the day… we used to have on Rex’s side of the family, Family Reunions every three years.. I love Michigan.
Hi Rosemary, Marquette rang a bell- when I was a youngster, our family camped all along Lake Michigan- many times at what was once called TerreAndre State Park. However, we did camp near Marquette on the coast and we drive to Marquette for supplies. Iβm not sure how far itches yo the state park enjoyed staying at.
Upper Michigan and Wisconsin had many wonderful places to see doing our camping days.
Yes, indeed, Rosemary, I am most definitely a Yooper! I have a bumper sticker–and a key fob–that both say “yooper girl” on them! The bumper sticker is getting awfully faded now, so I will have to call Sayklly’s in Escanaba (where I think I bought it 10 years ago) and see if they still have that, or something similar. I need a new one!
Believe it or not, I once saw another car right here in Mountlake Terrace with the same bumper sticker on it! They were turning onto the freeway, though. And I had one guy yell out his window to me that his in-laws were yoopers, and where they were from! AND…I had a note on my car at Walmart one time that said “Yooper girl rules!! Grand Marais!” (another town in the UP)
My four years living in Ann Arbor were interesting for a person who lived on the GA Coast. When we got there in 1963 we lived with his parents for 7 weeks while we worked on the little house his mother bought us. (We sold it for double what she paid when we left and paid her back.) It was fun working on it together, one of our best times of our marriage. I loved going to the arboretum and seeing all the birds that do not come to south GA. We had a bird feeder too. There was a park behind the house that had outdoor concerts in the summer and made an ice rink in the winter. Driving to work at my school was really interesting in the winter! I could tell you a lot of stories about living there, Charlotte. I wish we could get together for lunch again.
Oh, I wish so, too, Sissy! We did have such a nice time that day!
I’ve been to Ann Arbor many times, when we would go to the UM hospital for tests, etc.–my brother’s asthma and my growth problems–and stayed with friends who lived in Ypsilanti. We usually stopped at mom’s brother’s family’s home on those trips, too–they lived in Flint and also in the Detroit area at different times.
I was the one that said Necco Wafers, Charlotte. I will have to check out that FB page on Michigan’s UP. I consider that and Nova Scotia/PEI to be two of the best places!! Miss our many trips to St. Ignace and Mackinac Island as well as elsewhere.
St. Ignace is a lovely little town. Ron and I spent some time there the day before we went to Mackinac Island, that was over 20 years ago now. Time flies….
That little hat turned out just darling, Jeanne, and when you add the flowers it will be perfect for Ten Ping! Several of us did mention that pink tulle with hearts as being a favorite, so you I were wise to use it for this outfit. I love the ruffles instead of puffed sleeves for this!
Are you keeping the teacup or including it as the inspiration for the outfit? Since you already used it for the mold and have that, I thought it would be nice to somehow add that to the listing, perhaps with some kind of tea included. Of course the shipping might negate that idea! But, just a thought, if you donβt have any use for it.
Charlotte, your trip sounds fun, and we will be looking forward to hearing all about it, and with pictures too! Michigan isnβt all that far from Missouri, especially southern Michigan!
Oh dear, temperatures going up into the 90βs today, then storms tomorrow! Will this pattern never end?
That’s right, Linda, it’s not. And two of my grandkids live in Joplin, MO. Unfortunately I won’t have time for additional side trips this year. Maybe next time?!
Dear Jeanne,
Wow, I love the hat. It looks so cute on TenPing.
I love the dress idea, yes, certainly with the frilly top of arm holes, I made two blouses for myself π this year making sleeves like that.
I am glad you gave hubbs a haircut, he needed it haha
Today is the day, the big day, yikes. We leave in a half hour for the final walk through
and then, a 35 minute drive east to Vienna Virginia (quite an annoying drive actually)
and settlement is at noon. We should be out of there quickly and then we can come home and continue watching this new show on Britbox called “I, Jack Wright”. Not too much swearing.
I hope all of you have a superb day. It is becoming very warm and humid here in Northern Virginia. Love to all of you <3
Your comment about “not too much swearing” caught my attention. We’re looking for shows like that. We have started a couple shows only to stop after a few episodes because either the language was terrible or there was a lot of nudity. Seems there are no limits these days to what is considered decent. We’ve been watching a great show lately called “Tracker”. It’s about a man who finds lost people for the reward. Sounds a bit mercenary but it’s not. He’s good at what he does and he only accepts the reward if he finds them, which he does because that’s the reason for the show. It’s a great show and proves you can have a good show without all the extras that seem to be included these days.
That is exciting, Rosemary! I’ll never forget moving in to our new house in 2000. I took photos of all the rooms ( I wish they looked this nice now!!) and we had a house blessing with friend sand our priest blessing all the rooms. It is hard to believe that it was 25 years ago. I am looking forward for some photos from you!
Another amazing hat Jeanne! You have such a good eye for the size of a doll’s head!
I love all the pink and can’t wait to see the finish. I am sure it will be another wonderful outfit1
Absolutely love the dress on Ten. So sweet. And the hat is adorable. Perfect size for little Ten. However I’m not a fan of the huge flowers. They seem way too big and busy for little Ten. Maybe some in a smaller scale? Or, since this hat has a brim, perhaps a nice ribbon hatband that snaps on with just a few flowers sewed on on in one spot. Then, the hat could be used all summer with different dress outfits or even when Ten heads to the beach and needs a sun hat. π I think Ten needs an itty bitty swim suit. π
Seeing Jeanne’s lovely creation makes me want to start in sewing again for the tiny ones. Maybe a new pattern might get me inspired. Anyone find something cute?
Can’t believe that it is Thursday, already. Week has flown by. Hope I can get caught up on yardwork soon, but not so sure about that.
How little are you considering? Kathy Anne Designs on Etsy has some wonderful patterns for the RRFF Minis so they also fit Ten Ping. Most of what I’ve made for the twins and my other RRFF Minis are using Kathy’s patterns.
You know, I was thinking about her. Maybe I can shrink one of the mini patterns to fit little 5 1/2″ Dazzle. Great idea. π
Ten Pingβs hat and especially her little dress is adorable. Amazing what a small tea cup can do in your fingers, Jeanne! The hat size is perfect for her.
Itβs always fun to see how you will finish an outfit.
The hat shape and size are perfection! I hope you make more , please. The color of the larger pink flower looks so nice, but the size of the darker roses look good and especially carry the rose theme on the teacup as well as the hearts to me. I would like the arm ruffles a little smaller and think the overlay will look amazing and inspire so much twirling! And . . . she has perfect pink shoes!
I hope you keep the teacup as a prop. Have you tried it with any other dolls for a tea party accessory?
Have a great day all.
Dear Jeanne, Ten Ping looks “Perfect in Pink!” That is definitely a pretty color for her.
I missed commenting on the conversation about candy but I saw several references to PA made candies: York Peppermint Patties and Hershey’s Kisses/Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. Wilbur’s Chocolates were also made here but I think the factory was relocated.
I am making a BIG sigh right now. We are half way through May. I am holding on to every moment left of the month and wishing everyone May cheer!
What a cute hat!! It looks adorable on Ten Ping. Can’t wait to see the finished dress. I know it will be sweet. I haven’t tried my hand at hat making as yet but plan to soon.
Ten Ping, again? LOL My that girl is spoiled! I think it’s because she’s the smallest. The hat does look very sweet and so does the beginnings of the dress. I’m sure a lot of dolls in the cabinet think they’ve been forgotten completely. Of course, you might not even have some I’m thinking of anymore.
The Ten Ping hat with the pink checked dress and overlay are so sweet! And the sleeve ruffles are perfect….they add to the sweet look. I have used patterns for the Ruby Red dolls that have a sleeve ruffle and they look so feminine in place of regular sleeves.
I can’t wait to get back to sewing for the 14 inch RR dolls after sewing bridal dresses for the Barbie doll! I finally finished three different Barbie wedding dresses with veils and corsages to send for my daughter’s Birthday. She is an adult now but played with Barbie’s with her sisters years ago, and I never had the time to sew lots of Barbie outfits for them between working, running a household, and taking classes. I made several Barbie shops for her daughter while she was growing up and one of the shops was a Barbie Bridal Boutique, which my daughter has saved for a Granddaughter she might have someday. And I was made a Barbie doll sized “roomette” from a decorative paper-covered storage box. The Bridal roomette has a built in storage bench, window, shelves for displaying brides purses and shoes, along with tiny shoeboxes. And the Bride dresses are displayed on mannequins. My daughter plans to save the dresses and the “roomette” to go along with the Bridal Boutique store for a Granddaughter she might have someday! One of the detailed Bride dresses was made from a McCall’s craft pattern from 2004, which I never had used due to the time it would take to complete. But retirement offers time to pursue those interests and projects we never had time to do before!
Jeanne….I will send photos to you of the 3 wedding dresses and the Bridal “roomette”, if you wanted to share with the sofa sisters. Those photos are on my phone and I hope they go thru to your email address I have on my phone. If I could locate photos of the Bridal Boutique, I would send that too, but it was taken years ago and not on my cell phone. I could try to send it by email.
Back to my previous projects….still finishing the family Birthday cards I will need for the remainder of 2025, and I have been working on sewing three cloth dolls for gifts to my Granddaughters (one just had a baby girl a week ago, one is expecting a baby in the fall, and one doll will go to my great Granddaughter who is ten and big sister to the recently born baby girl!) The doll pattern is for “Baby’s first baby doll”. So thankful for retirement days, nimble fingers, love of sewing and crafting, and days with no health issues, aches or pains!
Elizabeth, I would love to see your pictures!!
With all the flowers, this hat reminded me of a photo of my great aunt Hulda. Her brother was born in 76, so the picture was taken in about 1900. It was just head and shoulders, to show off her face, hair, and wide brimmed hat, decorated with a dozen large roses and a life-size bird. Of course the hat was balanced by a blouse with leg o’mutton sleeves and a sweeping skirt not shown in the picture.
The hat is ADORABLE! And the pink fabric is just lovely. I already know Iβm going to be voting this my favorite outfit at the end of the year.
