A Picnic for Molly?

Hi everyone,
Well, I saw the doctor this morning and she told me she thought last week she would have probably diagnosed me with a respiratory virus but a few days ago she believed it changed to a bacterial strain so she fixed me up with an antibiotic! There were lots of other things she told us to do… hot tea with homey and lemon, pineapple juice with lots of Bromelain pulp in it, even to eat saltines to get some (healing) salt down my throat to help with the irritation and inflammation from all the coughing. The lymph nodes under my chin and along my jawline were quite enlarged. So MY hope is to take my antibiotics, rest and get well as soon as I can!

Now…
Dorothy, I’ve read your poem over several times today, thinking about each stanza and just loving it!! You REALLY DO love May more than most and it shows!! Thank you for sharing it. :o)

Sissy, I’ve been thinking of you and Peyton and hope you will soon be over all these “episodes” your lives have been hurling at you! (I’m actually praying for us like this too!!)

Okay, I’ll show you what I picked up at Hobby Lobby yesterday. I’m not 100% sure it is the right size… but we’ll see.

I was looking for a picnic basket so Molly could be going to a picnic. This was the only thing they had… I wish it had been just a bit smaller, and maybe had a lid on it, but my hubby was trying to reassure me it would work. He said for your storyline, tell everyone Molly was in charge of the tablecloths and she needs a basket that size to carry them…

I have quite a stash of baskets in a drawer, but no picnic baskets. I took a few pictures of a few I picked out… see what you think of these.

So what do you think? Any favorites? Maybe I don’t need that picnic basket from Hobby Lobby after all…

…and I forgot about something I had in a drawer that would be perfect in the smaller baskets… here’s a hint… it’s red, green and white! :o)

I’m off to bed… carry on ladies!!

Love you all,
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m so glad to hear you got an antibiotic ordered, and some other ways to help ease your symptoms, all from that visit to the doctor. The one factor she can’t give you is sleep; that is something you will have to do on your own, and I hope you will. Any time you feel a little tired, lie down. Put a throw over you so you are warm and cozy, and let yourself drift off to sleep. Don’t even worry about sleeping thru a meal! I’m sure George can fend for himself in the kitchen. At the very least, he can make himself a sandwich so he doesn’t starve! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Actually that basket for Molly is a pretty good size, and could even be Larger if you want to go that route. The basket my folks used for years and years as their picnic basket was about that shape and had no cover, and was proportionally, compared to a human figure, a little larger than Molly’s basket as it compares to her size.

I think all the other baskets are just too small to be picnic baskets, unless it’s a picnic for one. And the last two are just too shallow to hold much at all.

I replied to some of the comments on yesterday’s blog, if anyone wants to take a look.

We had a lovely day today, and it got up to 75ยฐ today! Tomorrow we go back to reality, with highs in the 60s, but today was a perfect May Day!

Dear Jeanne, I am glad that you have some suggestions from the doctor that you can use to feel better.

Thanks for liking my poem. I guess I am “May obsessed” (smile).

I think the last basket is the best fit. If you put a cloth inside and drape it down some, the basket will look a bit bigger.

Jeanne, Iโ€™m glad you are fining relief for whatever you have. Now today and tomorrow, just rest as much as you can!Thatโ€™s the only thing the doctor canโ€™t do for and only you can do that!

Oh, I think the first basket looks m the most like a picnic basket and is the right size. The others look more like flower baskets to me, and you couldnโ€™t pack much in them. A picnic basket shouldhold food, plates, cups and drinks and silverware. You need a big basket for all that!

Perhaps a colorful cloth to cover it all would look cute, maybe a red and white checked one! Molly is sure going to be happy with everything when it gets finished!

Jeanne, I find if I have a doll hold anything that is a bit too heavy, her arm just goes down, and everything spills ou., lt is hard to have them hold a large basket, especially loaded up with things, very well at all. I would just have it set down in front or on the side of her instead of having her hold it. I have used a rubber band and attached baskets underneath their hand, but this one will be too heavy for that sort of thing, unfortunately.

  4. Yay, goodie, Jeanne, you are well on your way to getting all better! and right at the start of a happy hopefully not to rainy week-end. The forecast changes so quickly, so I hope all of you have nice calm weather this week-end.
I think I should be doing some serious packing…
Molly’s dress is so adorable, I love every inch on it.
The large basket is great for picnics, fill it up to look full of picnic stuff.
The other baskets look too small.
This dress is a winner. It will sell quickly.
    I hope everyone has a lovely week-end.
At present it is 7:30 am, I got up really early for the HVAC guy and I feel like my head is still on my pillow.
I certainly hope I ‘wake up” eventually

Well, I’m so happy that Jeanne finally caved and went to see a doctor. Hopefully, the antibiotics will be working very soon. The other suggestions sound good too, especially, the saltines. I mean, those were a staple in the 50’s at our house when I was sick. I’ve always had a box in the pantry here just in case. I believe that I can see Jeanne perking up already. ๐Ÿ™‚ If Jeanne still isn’t well after taking the prescription, or close to the end, please call the doctor and see if a second round might be needed. Sometimes, it takes two to knock out these things.
Now, as to the picnic basket. The first one reeks of picnic, but it doesn’t look right balanced on Molly’s wrist. I would use that one as the others remind me of flower or Easter baskets. If the basket is simply set on the ground or a bench next to Molly, it will be perfect filled with a blanket, treats, bottle of water, and maybe a little pet. ๐Ÿ™‚ Everything is swimming along for Molly. Now, let’s hope that Jeanne is already feeling better too. ๐Ÿ™‚
Here, I finally have a movement on my tracking for Evelyn. No idea when exactly she is supposed to arrive, but at least she is now traveling. ๐Ÿ™‚ No idea why she sat at Staples until late yesterday though.
Finally, got other person to help a bit with the weeds. Involved tools though. He dug out a huge mess of ivy/blackberry. Well, he loosened it up and I pulled it out. The lone artichoke will be much happier no longer fighting for space and nutrients. Now, I have to decide what section I want to work on next. Probably should do the area by the raised beds as I have some flowers coming up there between ivy and blackberry. Then, I’ll get back to the upper beds and the concord grapevine. It’s being smothered too. Ugh
Hope everyone has a great healthy weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you, Jeanne and the other Sofa friends for caring about my Peyton. His had looks better every day, not much change in the eye yet. Will take him back to the walk-end tomorrow if there is no improvement. We are going back to the Y and I am in the water while he works out on a treadmill.

Jeanne, I am so glad you under an doctor’s care. I hope and pray there will be a great change for the better when you send Monday’s blog. Here is a help for a bad throat that I have used many times. You put an aspirin in some hot water in a cup and gargle the water after the aspirin dissolves. It really helps.

I LOVE the first basket and think filling it up will be just perfect. Have a lot of rest this weekend, we are praying for you!

Hope you are feeling better soon. I lost a few crafting/sewing days in April due to not feeling up to myself, but not sure what caused the feelings of being under the weather. Found myself taking lots of little naps which really can improve a persons disposition! Naps are so refreshing….always seem ready to work on a project when I wake up.

Love the Molly dress and the basket you purchased would work fine…one would need that size to load dishes, food, and a tablecloth! I also smiled when I saw the white basket with the dress…..it “goes” with the dress print, I think. Some of the baskets were rather small for the 18 in. doll.

I am working on a Barbie Doll project to send to Indiana for my daughter’s upcoming Birthday! The details are taking some time and I need to finish it this week if possible…I can send some photos of this project when it is done in case others might want to view it. I hope I have your correct gmail.com address….I sent you a few photos of the Ruby Red outfit I had completed, on March 25. Not sure if they went thru though because I never saw the outfit mentioned. It is an Anne of Green Gables dress/pinafore/bloomers/boots/ and a carpet bag. I had commented on the straw hat I had used for the outfit, wishing I knew how to make a straw hat that would fit the RR doll better! I would have liked to have the straw hat rather tattered looking and frayed at the edges like the hat worn by the girl playing Anne in the series…but I was afraid if I tried to fray the edges of the purchased hat, it would come undone or fall apart! I don’t get out to Hobby Lobby often since I no longer drive, but go with one of my daughters occasionally. Could try to order online, but am on a tight budget and avoiding extra expenses currently. “Fun” money seems to go towards groceries these days!

I would love to see the Barbie project for your daughter and the Anne of Green Gables too. Maybe the pics were lost somewhere? I too sent a few pictures to Jeanne, recently, but know she has been feeling so hot.

Jeanne, so glad you have a resolution to your problem. I never thought of the saltines as anything other than something you ate with soup when you were sick. I’ll keep them in mind as a remedy on their own. I have always known to gargle with salt water when I had a sore throat and that helped a lot. The other things mentioned sounded helpful too. Never heard of Bromelain pulp or Sissy’s aspirin remedy. Keeping all these things in mind just in case. I usually do okay through the summer and fall months but not so much in winter and spring.

I think the first basket is perfect. Picnic baskets always seemed pretty large to me because they have to hold a lot of stuff. My grandmother had one because living in PA we got to go on a lot of picnics. Here perish the thought of a picnic. If the heat doesn’t get you the bugs will. I was a teenager before I could even carry the picnic basket. And as for the lid, I’ve seen lots of picnic baskets that had no lids but used the tablecloth as a cover. I think the other baskets are too small for a picnic basket. When I was cleaning my pantry the other day I found a plastic chicken leg. Must have been from one of the grandkids playsets. I need to put it with my dolly picture props. It would be great to add to a picnic basket.

I got curious about the Dazzle doll and looked her up yesterday. She is totally adorable and the things that come with her are amazing. And I can see the dress pattern being made several different ways both casual and dressy. Hard to believe she’s tinier than my AG Mini dolls. I have patterns for them but they would be too big for such a little one.

No spring storms as yet but we are still threatened with them. A front is due to push in today and they are supposed to be in front of it. We’ve been told we will have storms all week and north of us they’ve been getting storms every day, but they haven’t made it this far south. But all these weather predictions that don’t happen are driving David crazy. He’s got a lot of outdoor projects that need doing and next week he is supposed to go to where Jason and Stephanie have their mobile home and put in a septic system for them, but they are predicting rain most of next week – that might or might not happen. No problem for me one way or the other. As long as the power stays on and I can sew, I’m good. Hope to work on the twins dresses this afternoon. They are cute little dresses with pinafores, and I got them the cutest little white shoes to wear with their new spring outfits. Can’t wait to seem all dressed up for the May festival.

I wrote my comment before reading anyone else’s because I wanted to make sure I got my comment in before something else interfered. I laughed when I went back to read the others because it looks like we we’re pretty much all on the same page.

      Hi Barbara,
I wanted to make a comment the other day but time got away from me and then I never was able to return. You mentioned a doll clothes pattern that had a 1/8 inch seam allowance which ended up being a headache. I had the same problem and solved it by making a photocopy on cardstock, tracing the pattern on the fabric using cardstock worked great. Sewing on the tracing line gave me that 1/4 inch seam. Hope you are well and enjoying your sewing time!
      Hugs

The first is definitely the best for a picnic. I have a vintage/almost antique wicker one I found at the antique store decades ago.. It is over two feet long. I have quite a few other vintage/antique wicker baskets as well. I seem to have been drawn to collecting them in the past. I guess because they are all handmade as all baskets are because there is no basket making machine just as their is no crochet machine, although there is a knitting machine.
The last natural colored basket would be perfect for Felicity. It looks similar to her gathering basket I have with her Rescue kit set.

Ah ha, another thing we both like. Baskets. I have my grandparents picnic basket. It’s way up on top of an armoire so, I haven’t gotten it down in ages. My dad told me once that the basket went on all of their picnics when he was little. He was born in 1918, so it’s fairly old. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also have my grandmother’s metal cake box with which she transported cakes to various places. I’d love to see a pic of your wicker basket.

    Hi Jeanne,
I’m glad you saw your doctor. You’ll feel better in no time. My PA writes me a script for Tessalon Perles, they work great at controlling coughs. It’s non-narcotic med. I hope you catch up on sleep tonight.
The dotted sash looks great. I really like the basket you picked up at hobby lobby. I think the size is just fine, but you could say something about Molly’s mama letting her carry the “Big picnic basket” all by herself. I agree with Linda. The other baskets are cute but look like flower collecting baskets.

Laura, thank you for your well wishes for my son and his family, it was very sweet of you to take the time to reply. Reading about your friend and her family brought a tear to my eye. Such a sad story. I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine such a loss… absolutely heart breaking. I’m happy to read they were able to move on and were able to give a better life to children that needed a mama and daddy.

Sissy, thank you for your well wishes for my son and his family it was very kind of you. I pray your hubby and his eye are on the mend. He is lucky to have you and your mothering/nursing skills.

Dorothy, your poem is lovely. You certainly have skill when it comes to poetry!

Spent an hour on the phone trying to straighten out a bill issue for my parents. My father shreds every piece of mail he receives than has me burn it in our firepit. I’m pretty sure most of it goes unread. Oh well ! lol

    Happy Friday everyone
    Hugs
    Ingrid

  11. The Hobby Lobby basket looks to be the best size to hold everything for a picnic. The only problem for me is the size/shape of the handle. But Iโ€™m sure changing it somehow would be a whole other can of worms. The smaller baskets would be okay for picking berries, cherries, or flowers.
