Easter Dresses Extraordinaire!

Hi everyone,
I’m lonely without Cindy and Tom here, but we knew they had to go home. I didn’t know what to do with myself after they left. They leave a big hole when they go home! I did hear them talking about “maybe” coming back in July… so I’m jumping to May in honor of Dorothy and then there’s just one month between it and July… so maybe I can make it!

I received a fun email today from Debbie P and wanted to share it with you… It involves Sissy too!

Hi Jeanne,
I hope you are having a great time with Cindy this week. Bailey’s outfit is just perfect for Easter.

I am sending some photos of the two dresses that Sissy made for my Little Darlings. Please feel free to include them on the blog for everyone to enjoy.
I asked Sissy to design two seasonal dresses with green as the primary color so I could create a display that will work for St. Patrick’s Day through Easter and beyond. Sissy put together a group of fabrics with coordinating delicate hankies for pinafores. The dress outfits shown below are the two I chose but all were just beautiful combinations.
During the creation of my outfits you were decorating the hats that fit the 8″ dolls. I was so excited about your hats that Sissy offered a hat to go with each of my outfits. I was over the moon! Aren’t they cute! For a different look a bow was also created for each dress.
When I opened the package there was a bag of goodies for my dolls to enjoy their new spring dresses. The little chicks and bunnies were in the bag, I added the eggs and borrowed the basket from my Madame Alexander Lissy doll.

Thank you Sissy for the dresses and Jeanne for sharing.
Debbie

Thank YOU Debbie, for sending you pictures my way. I especially NEEDED them today… :o) They are just adorable and what little girls used to look like when dressed for Easter. Not so much anymore, but I’m going to keep my eyes open and see if I spot any little cuties running around!

The dresses are just beautiful, Sissy! I don’t know which one I like best! You did an excellent job on the dresses and pinafores and the hats really do add the finishing touch! Very well done!

Well, I’ll see everyone Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

I am glad you had such a great time while Cindy and Tom were there, Jeanne. I don’t have a sister, just a brother, and really, it’s not quite the same! But I do have my best friend, June–we have been best friends since first grade (when our family first moved to Stephenson, MI, in Nov. 1952), so I guess that’s pretty close to having a sister!

Debbie, thanks for sharing the pictures of your two girls in Sissy’s beautiful creations. What a treat to see those!! I’m not sure which one I like best–it’s hard to pick a favorite!

I will try to get my pictures of my LDs in Easter outfits sent to Jeanne–probably tomorrow night, as it’s getting quite late and I need to get to bed now.

Charlotte, I am so pleased that you like my outfits and I can’t wait to see yours! So nice that you have such a good friend. My two besties live in NC so I don’t get to see them much.

Jeanne, it sounds like your visit with Cindy and her husband was just the ticket to welcome spring. It is always fun to rummage around in the shops when the seasons change. And rehabilitate Santaā€™s beard! šŸŽ…šŸ˜Š

As for seasons changing, the dresses that Sissy made and the dogwood blooming outside my kitchen window provide just the right amount of proof that spring is finally here. Thank you for sharing them!

Debbie, thank you so much for wanting my outfits. I love sewing them and the hats were so much fun for me. I love hand sewing on the vintage hankies and sewing for you.
      Your photos are lovely!

This week sure went quickly, didnā€™t it Jeanne? Well, you certainly did have fun, and now onto Spring! At the rate things are going, September will be here before you know it! Maybe you and George could take a small break and go visit Cindy and Tom, with a side trip to Rebeccaā€™s for a change!

Debbie, oh my, how sweet those two dresses and hats are! Are those Jeanneā€™s hats she made, or did Sissy make those? I certainly canā€™t tell the difference! I simply LOVE little girl dresses with pinafores, and made several for my daughter when she was little. I also have several for my dolls, but not as sweet as these are! I love those perfect little puffed sleeves! I think my favorite one is the pink and green one, so feminine and delicate, but the other is just as pretty! Sissy, you did a wonderful job!

While our dogwoods are just starting to bud out, the pink redbuds are spectacular around here! Yes, spring has sprung!

Thank you for your kind words about my outfits for Debbie, Linda. Yes, I made the hats. I am not as good as Jeanne, mine are made on a mold that I bought. I had fun decorating them. I just love hand sewing, too, with vintage hankies.

I agree! The dresses and hats take me back to the time when dressing up meant a pretty dress and a hat. My mother made all of my dresses before I was school age and one of them looked a lot like the green with the sweet roses. Sissy sews beautifully and made those wonderful hats to match. šŸŒøšŸŒŗ

Jeanne, thank you for sharing the outfits I made for Debbie. She is great fun to sew for. I made some hats several years ago on a mold I bought and your hats made me dig them out and decorate a couple for Debbie.
I know you miss your company but you always seem to fill your time, so have a great weekend.

Debbie’s LD’s wearing lovely outfits by Sissy, are perfectly delightful. Such cute photos with the Easter goodies too. Made my morning.

Well, I finally have those shorts pockets sewn on to the best of my ability. Yay! So glad they are done. But, the shirts are missing something. Snaps of course. I looked in all of the usual places for snaps here yesterday to no avail. So, I guess I’ll have to try and buy some this morning. But where? With Joann’s pretty much done, the only alternative here is driving an hour round trip to a Walmart I guess. Kind of crazy just for snaps.

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful clear day and about 71. My perfect temperature for gardening. However, I may not get to that because of those crazy snaps and then another trip to the post office. Yikes, I had better get going. Have a delightful weekend everyone.

Joy, I guess you don’t have Hobby Lobby? That is where I get mind usually, because they are cheaper that Joann’s.
Thank you for liking my outfits for Debbie. I love it when I get orders from her. She loves it when I do hand sewing and I love to do it.

So glad you worked out the pockets. Looking forward to seeing your boys.
Have a great weekend and don’t work so hard!

  6. Yeah, it does seem really quiet and sad when fun guests have occupied your days for almost a week! What fun memories. I am sure some of this sadness is enhanced by the stormy weather we are getting across the country. It is very cloudy here.
Debbie, your dolls are beautiful. I love their shoes too, this is a very lovely scene.
I think these dresses Sissy made are really pretty. Sissy, there dresses are so perfectly lovely.
    Wow, those hats!!!
It is Friday today, I think I have finally recovered from my grand girls visit! I will venture in the basement and organize the things that need to go and that sort of fun stuff.
I also got 4 heavy duty “small boxes” which I think I will pack all of my tea cups and other things in my china cabinet.. I hope all of you have some bright days, Here it looks like cloudy all week-end.

    1. Debbie in North Carolina

Thank you Rosemary. The white shoes are hand made in East Europe and take quite a long time to arrive. They are worth the wait. šŸ„°
Good luck with your tea cups. I always left the delicate stuff to the movers. Nothing they packed broke. Everything I packed broke. Packing paper seems to be the best method. I used bubble wrap.

    2. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you, Rosemary! I do love to sew for Debbie’s dolls. Debbie likes my hand sewing on the hankies and that is what I love best to do. Jeanne inspired the hats, which had been on a shelf for a long time since I made them. I had fun decorating them.
Have a great weekend, and “have fun” packing.

  7. Susette from Southern California

What beautiful little dresses and pinafores Sissy hand sews! They are certainly little works of art, as are the little hats. Iā€™m still amazed that you do all that by hand. The hats are perfect. Thanks to Debbie for underwriting these wonderful creations!

Glad you had such a great time, Jeanne. Itā€™s another member of your family who raises the Amaryllis. Please thank him. Even if it doesnā€™t end up blooming again next year, itā€™s great fun watching the leaves grow at least an inch every day! Crazy plant!

    1. Debbie in North Carolina

ā€œUnderwritingā€! That is what I will tell hubby when all those little boxes appear on the porch. I do feel like a squirrel hoarding doll dresses for the future when the talented seamstresses hang up their needle and thread.

    2. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you, Susette, Debbie is great to sew for anytime. It is hard to find buyers for my hand work, there are so many sewers out there who just whip things together for less money.
I love seeing all the lovely outfits our Sofa Group sends to Jeanne for us to see, as well as other lovely pictures.I keeps bringing us together.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

Sissy does such beautiful work and I love what she comes up with when someone gives her an idea of what they want. It always turns out perfect. Debbie’s dolls are lovely and the dresses are perfect for them. The hats are very pretty. I haven’t received my kit yet but I’m anxious to try my hand at making some hats. I bought a mold for the small bonnets but it seems now I’m looking at every vessel in my house as a possible hat mold. Thanks Debbie and Jeanne for sharing.

    1. Hi Barbara, did you find a bonnet style hat mold to fit the RRFF girls? That’s what I would love to find. I’ve been looking around the house also for something that might work.

      1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Barbara and Laura, I am doing the same, looking for things to use to make hats different sizes. What fun when we all start showing hats and how we made them!

    2. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you so much for your kind words. I do love it when I get a commission and we work together. Much more fun than making some thing and try to sell it.

  9. Karen from Kentucky

Thanks so much for sharing, Debbie, Sissy, and Jeanne! The dolls are beautiful šŸ˜

I am glad you had a great time with your sister and her husband, Jeanne. Lilly got a kick out of seeing Santa Claus šŸ˜Š

  10. My goodness, what absolutely gorgeous dresses, Sissy! They are both beautiful, but I will have to say the the blue, yellow, and white with the natural hat is my favorite. I love the combination of blue and white with a touch of yellow for spring. The pinafore hankie on that one is so sweet. Good thing you don’t sew for the RRFF or PC/AG girls because I would just have to look and feel sad I couldn’t buy.

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Laura, that is so sweet of you. I love that you noticed the tiny yellow, blue and green on that hankie pinafore. The embroidery is so small. thank you for your kind words.

  11. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I know you feel sad but Cindy will be back soon. Now you have time to think of a wonderful, amazing, awesome adventure that the two of you can share! That will help the time pass.

Thanks for sharing photos of Sissy’s dresses. The Little Darlings look adorable. Debbie P is surely a proud Mama as her sweet dolly children twirl about in their outfits.

  12. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Sissy, your outfits are lovely you are so talented. Thank you for sharing, Debbie.
I am counting down the days before I see my brother and sister. I know it is hard Jeanne when you have to say goodbye. Harder still when you think it might be the last time and I think it will be for me unless I can travel with someone. Two 13-hour flights with waiting time in between is pretty hard.
Well, who knows what the weather is going to do? Wednesday and Thursday it rained all day and only got to 16C (about 62F) Yesterday was sunny and 27C (about 84F) Today it is cloudy, possible rain and 16C!
Someone, a couple of days ago, asked if our winters were ‘brutal’. If you are measuring that by your northern states and Canada the answer is no, especially these days. 50 years ago, Winter wouldn’t start till June, we would have severe frost around -8 to -10C (14 – 17F) and a glorious day after, these days frosts are not as regular and anything over -4C (25F) is pretty severe. However, Christchurch is on the coast, as you go further south and more inland the weather is different. And of course, the nearer to the mountains the more extreme the weather. We haven’t had snow in Christchurch since 2013. I just don’t like being cold so if I can miss the winter I am very happy to. Not enough to move north to Auckland though! They rarely have frost and the one time it ‘snowed’ they had to get the weather service to confirm it was snow! They got quite excited about it.
I need to go and get moving, a lot to do today. Have a good day everyone
