A new hat, a new bodice and 24 cups of water!!!

Hi everyone,
First, a reminder… Mae’s dress set ends tonight… Yes, “Easter Charm” is going to be traveling to some new little Moppet soon.
If you haven’t seen it yet, you can, by clicking the picture at the right side bar, or you can click HERE.

I had some errands to do this morning and got home about 1:00 and was thrilled to find my NEW hat mold had come in the mail. I bought it off Ebay and was hoping it would come today! I needed a diversion…

Here’s the new mold….

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it’s a tiny little thing…for a head with a circumference of 5 1/2″ – 6″, so guess who it’s for? Bailey and Navi again. The hat I just made for Bailey’s blue outfit was similar, but it had a flat crown… This one has a rounded crown and a short brim. From the pictures in the Ebay listing, I couldn’t tell how the crown looked, but I was hoping it sort of flared out a bit like Mae’s does, but it doesn’t… it just goes almost straight up. Sort of like a Derby hat.

Here’s the blue hat that sold last week.

Of course, you’ve probably guessed by now that I had to try it out… Yes, I did!

Now for the diversion… I needed to keep my mind busy so the hat did the trick. Tuesday is Colonoscopy Day for me! Whoopie! NOT! I had to be on a liquid diet today and then at 6:00 tonight I had to start drinking this jug of “junk”. It was 8 cups of the liquid stuff AND then I had to follow that with 4 more cups of just water! It was terrible, but I made it… Then I have to get up at 6:00 in the morning and do it again with the other 8 cups of jug “junk” and then 4 more cups of water. My appointment is at 10:45 in the morning… Then I’ll be good for I think 3 more years or so… YAY! REALLY, I shouldn’t joke about it… I’m grateful I can have this procedure and know for certain things are okay! If you haven’t had one, you REALLY should! Enough said! :o)

Okay, You can see the difference in the depth of the crown with this one…

It looks pretty cute on Bailey… and does fit on her head nicely. I just wish it wasn’t QUITE so tall, but maybe when it’s decorated, it won’t look that tall to me. Here it is when I first finished it…

I thought I’d show you how it looks when you pull that thread to make it ruched looking and then I glued that to the edge of the hat.

I wondered if it would fit Ten Ping and it does…

About the time I got the hat done, it was time to start my chugging of the jug contents… That took a couple hours!! :o(

Then I got “okay” and decided to go ahead and see what I could do toward Rozen’s dress or whatever I decided to make. I debated about making a skirt out of the tiny blue and green fabric and then another one out of the striped fabric. However I realized if I made skirts, I’d have to make a tee shirt to wear with them and that was the whole problem of why I couldn’t use the jacket the last time because there’s not enough room in the armhole area for a tee… SO I decided to cut out the bodice from the blue and white fabric, because it was the thinner of the fabrics. It’s very soft and I just thought it might do better under that jacket.

I managed to get the bodice lined and sewn together…

It’s a perfect fit around the armholes and I hope I NEVER lose my pattern. It took me quite a few attempts to get it just right.

Here are a few pictures of the dress bodice with the jacket over it… not much to tell but here they are anyway.

I’m not sure my post flowed very well today, trying to interject the Jug Talk in the middle of my story, but I hope you understand it.

Well, I have to get to bed…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, congratulations on the successful auction of Easter Charm. Looks like you had a little bidding war on that one!!

Secondly, I hope your colonoscopy goes well. I have to confess, I have never had one, partly an emotional thing (my mom’s dementia advanced by leaps and bounds after her second one) and partly I’m quite sure I could never get down even half of what you have to drink in that amount of time! I’m a small person, and don’t have a very large capacity for anything. I remember having to drink just two pints (I think it was) of some liquid contrast for a test; I couldn’t even get all that down. I thought if I’d had one more swallow, they would have gotten it all back!

Well, that is a cute hat, and I think it’ll decorate very nicely. Gigi is bouncing around tonight, hoping against hope that Auntie Jeanne will make a hat and outfit just for her!! LOL

The armscyes of that dress bodice do fit so very nicely! And the more I look at that fabric, the better I like it, too.

    1. I agree Charlotte, on the colonoscopy. I can not drink so much.
In stead I have a CT scan done, and also do that “home kit” you mail off. Kind of the same procedure with liquids the day before.

First, Jeanne, I love that you went with that first material choice! It is the perfect, most spring-like material of the bunch, I think. I can’t figure out why some said it was too pale for Rozen!

I love that your new mold has a rounded top too! It turned out just darling, and will look so pretty once it is decorated. Even with just a ribbon around it and a cute daisy being the only decorations, it will work!

A colonoscopy isn’t the most fun thing to do, but it will soon be over, and well worth it if it keeps you in the know and catches problems early.

Can’t wait to see what additions you make on Rozen’s outfit!

Well, Jeanne, I think I will be in a fight tonight when Mae’s outfit is closed, we shall see.
I am so glad you picked the first fabric. It is so cute with the jacket.

I love the hat! I have only one hat mold that I bought from Nelly Valentino years ago, it fits Little Darlings. I made a bunch of hats then but quit. I may have to start again.

God bless you on the liquids, they are worse than the actual colonoscopy. I was 74 when I had mine. He told me to come back in 10 years. I told him I would be 84 then and I doubted I would bother. Now, at 85, I still have not bothered.

Hoping that George is doing well today, and that you will be over all that soon.

  4. Jeannie, having gone through a colonoscopy recently I agree that drinking that nasty stuff is not pleasant. The procedure itself is so simple and my results were good, one small polyp that was benign.
For those who aren’t aware, March is colon cancer awareness month, and here are some facts:

Colon cancer awareness month is observed annually in March. The aim this month is to raise awareness about colorectal cancer, promote early detection, and encourage regular screenings.

    Key Facts:
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.
Early detection through screenings can significantly improve survival rates.
The recommended age for colorectal cancer screening is 45 for average-risk individuals due to rising cases in younger adults.
While the colonoscopy is the gold standard for screening, other screening methods include sigmoidoscopy and fecal occult blood tests.

  5. Well, by the time you read this, you will have endured the procedure and home again home again jiggedy jig! You certainly got a lot done on a liquid diet all day. I hope you feel good now.
the hat is adorable, the top of the dress is superb and lovely!
This is going to be cutie outfit.
I packed two boxes of books (we are keeping very few) mostly piano music.
and puttered around — but I did bake some cookies and made a home made pizza.
I wish I could give you some pizza and cookies for a reward for bravery

  6. Hoping your colonoscopy went well….. I agree, the preparation is much worse than the actual procedure.
I am struggling trying to make a straw hat….do you wet the straw first and glue the rows or sew them? If you glue them, what kind of glue do you use?
I hope you don’t mind me asking these questions 😊😊
    God Bless 🤗

    1. HI Patti,
You asked about the straw you use for the hats. The only straw I’ve ever used is Paglina straw… or sometimes called braid. It has a thread along the edges that can be pulled to make the braid curl and go around the crown of the hats. Going around the brim and partly up the crown you just use the braid flat… I use tacky glue on my hats. I put it in a tiny zip lock bag… like a 3 x 2 or smaller and cut just a tiny snip of a corner off and use that to squeeze your glue out. I hope this helps…
      Blessings, Jeanne

Love the new hat. I think I like it on Ten Ping the best. I’d like to see it on Bailey with a different wig. Not sure which one though.
Glad that Jeanne, will soon be done with drinking that stuff for a long time. Ick
I’m still not fond of the dress color on Rozen, as she looks washed out. Maybe outside photos or different lighting? Can’t wait to see what might come next. The bodice with a short skirt, long skirt for a flirty summer look, or maybe shorts? Guess we’ll find out.
I have a feeling that many will be watching the auction later. That Mae outfit is delightful.
Now, if you’re really bored, I’ll tell you about what we did yesterday.
We went for a walk in the morning. Then, decided to head up to the other house and see if we could get the rest of the apple tree cut back. Supposed to rain tomorrow. Other person sawed with the pole saw up in the tree branches somewhere and I cut up the branches after they fell, into about six inch pieces. We can fit more in the cans that way. Anyway, we already had the yard can filled there and ours at home, but thought that our neighbor might have room in hers. I filled up two regular garbage can size yard cans with cut branches and then other person cut up the big branches left with the reciprocating saw after I had pretty much stripped them. So, now, we only have a small pile of wood to put in the can there next week. Then, we loaded two cans onto the truck to take back home. Really heavy. Loaded all of the pole pruners and tools back into the truck. Cleaned up and put the ladders away. Locked the gate, garage, and house and headed home. Did not spot Coco, the kitty. Other person and I were both pooped. Drove home. Unloaded all the tools but left the full cans in the back of the truck. Charlotte, the kitty from next door, was waiting on the porch for us. Fed Charlotte. Already fed Callie. from below, at 6:30AM. Early riser I guess. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was 3:00. We’d been up there working almost 4 hours. No wonder we were fried. We picked up some late lunch and watched some news. Ugh. Then, other person laid down on the bed because his sciatica problem is back. He was just about healed from the last pruning round. Anyway, I walked up to neighbor Becky’s. and asked if she had any room in one of her cans. She has two. She gave the okay. and after a few pets on Winnie. the dog next door, and a half dog biscuit, I rolled the big can downhill to the truck. A couple were walking their dog across the street, and I guess they were watching me roll the can down, must have been comical, so he asked if he could help. I said thanks, but I could do it. Well, I thought I could. Thought about climbing up onto the truck bed to retrieve the cans, but ditched that idea and managed to slide them along to the tailgate and tip one at a time over and pour the old apple tree into the big can. Kind of sad, but so much was dead wood. Anyway, managed to dump both cans in the truck into the big can without a problem. Never could have lifted them from the ground. Took the now empty cans out of the truck and put them by the side of the house. We’ll take one back to the other house tomorrow. Closed the tailgate, not so easy. And then the trek back up the hill began. So much easier coming down the hill with an empty can. The thing was a beast. So heavy. But, I shoved and pushed and kept the can rolling back uphill. Now, I really could have used that guy to help. After taking a few breaks and some deep breath’s, I made it. I left the can at the curb at Becky’s, ready for pick up Wednesday. Walked home. Sat down finally, to check mail etc. Other person was up and walking around because he had a foot cramp. Probably. from climbing the ladder. Gads we’re getting old. While writing above, other person stated that he couldn’t find his glasses. This always causes a problem. Sometimes they have fallen from his pocked in the yard or just about anywhere. It’s happened so many times, that I know the routine. Where did you have them last? What were you doing? Check your pockets. Etc. etc. While this was going on, I had visions of having to go back up to Becky’s, next door, and dump out the big can to search for the mysterious glasses and then have to load everything back into the can. Luckily, he had them at lunch, so they couldn’t have gotten into the cans. I grabbed my trusty flashlight to shed more light on the situation and checked the usual places. Under the table, couch, etc. Nope. No glasses. I had asked about the bed as he was laying on it, but nope. he had checked it. But, knowing better, I went to the already checked bedroom and searched the bedspread. Very hard to see things on the blue/white floral print. Did not spot them. Then, I went to his side on the floor and shined my light and didn’t see them. But, I did check along the under edge of the bed and and BINGO, found the glasses. Good thing I didn’t step on them. So much for our exhausting day. Hope you had more fun. 🙂

In spite of some of the extra effort (breathing pauses) needed to do what you did I’m totally amazed that you could do it at all. I also have a problem with sciatica like other person which even trips to the chiropractor have not totally eliminated – but I probably would do well getting a massage every now and then. Right now I am dreading the effort it will take to redo my sewing room. I have boxes of crochet magazines and a few others I don’t want to get rid of because they contain patterns and ideas I love and have used or want to use many of them. These days I only get one crochet magazine and my “Dolls” magazine but I want to keep the others at least for a while. I moved them from where they were under my current table to about five feet away and headed for the heating pad for the rest of the afternoon. They need to be moved to some shelves in the garage until the new storage room is built but I will have Sean do that for me. Oh to be young again when I used to move furniture around with no problem.

Oh, so sorry about the sciatica. About ten years ago, I had a bad episode with mine. Took nine months to get completely better. I’m really careful now. 🙂 That lifting is what gets me. Glad you’re keeping your crochet magazines. Take care with that back.

    2. I always enjoy your stories! You’re a hard worker and busy … like me. However, hurt my shoulder lifting things I shouldn’t but still, I push, shove, lift to get things fine regardless.

Well by now the deed is done and you are probably home glad it is over so you can eat again. I don’t do well on a liquid diet. I have never had a colonoscopy but have had other things over the years. But thinking of drinking horrible things, I once had an intestinal obstruction and they did a barium enema. Problem is no one thought to give me the laxative to get the stuff out of my body and after a while I was cramping something awful. I didn’t know about the laxative so I didn’t know to ask for it. It was not a fun time.

I like the way Rozen’s outfit is coming along and looking forward to seeing what the “bottom” will be – short dress, long dress, skirt or maybe the bottom of a jumpsuit.

Those straw hats always turn out looking so cute. As soon as I get my sewing room reorg finished, I’m going to look into the molds and straw to do these. Right now I’m trying to get things out of the room. My new table is here but I can’t get the services of Sean and Skyy until Monday so I have some time to do some moving and cleaning.

  9. Karen from Kentucky

Good luck with the colonoscopy, Jeanne! That does not sound fun.
I think Rozen is looking nice so far 🙂

  10. Once you’re through the colonoscopy, like you said, it’ll be a few years before the next. I think I have a year yet before next one.
Hope George is on the mend too.

Jeanne, between shoes and hats, you are more than a seamstress! Such wonderful shoes and hats! Always something to go with your beautiful outfits!

Now that I think about it, I would probably agree that the prep for a colonscopy is the worst!! I DID drink all of the goop, and subsequently, most of it “came back up” – not fun, but knock-on-wood, I won’t have to do it again, for quite a few (I hope) years.
    Love the hat!
