My Meadow, Mae, is sitting pretty in her dress!

Hi Everyone,
Mae’s dress isn’t quite finished, but getting close. I had some time today and worked on it a little more.

The other sleeve was added to the bodice and since I don’t like poofy sleeves where one can be poofed UP and the other poofed down, I decided to add some tulle sleeve headers. They were pretty small but just puffy enough to make the sleeves the same…

Now both sleeves will be the same…

I managed to get the sets of snaps sewn in the back… and my new name tags ironed in place.

The dress hasn’t been hemmed yet, but here’s a back view with the snaps all fastened.

Now how about a few shots of Mae in the dress so far…

Here’s a close up of the bodice and the collar…

Well, moving right along on this one… the hard parts are all done… now for some fun things…

Thanks everyone,
I’ll see you tomorrow with more from this set!
Blessings, Jeanne

Hi all! Linda, you were right–I forgot to check out the blog before I went to bed last night. My usual Sunday thing, I guess! But I’ve read it now and all the comments, too. Nice to see Jeanne replying to each post again!

Joy, Karina looks lovely in her new pink dress. I like the added touches of lace and ribbon; they really add a lot to it!

Jeanne, thanks for the hat tutorial. It was interesting to see how you did her hat. I think you said something about the hat sort of turning inside out as you take it off the form, so I have to ask, is the right side the side you are looking at when you are making it, or the other side?

Mae’s dress is coming along nicely. I really like the green gingham collar and trim on it; it matches her shoes. Now to embellish the hat; to me that sounds like the really fun part!

Only a couple more days and I leave for Puyallup (pew-AL-up)! I head down there Wed. after lunch, and Sew Expo starts on Thursday. I will be there Thursday and Friday (it runs thru Sunday), and will leave Saturday morning for home. Even though it’s only a little over an hour from my house, to drive down and walk around all day and then drive back home again all in one day is just too much for me any more, so I get a hotel room. My friend Tonya and her group from Utah (this year there are 3 others coming) will all stay in the same hotel as I am, and probably have our dinners together at night. Show and tell is usually in my room, or has been in the past! Hopefully our rain will clear up before Expo starts–tonight we’ve really had a rainstorm, with wind and even a little thunder at times!

This weekend I shortened two pairs of slacks for myself, and my “twinsie challenge” is ready to go!

I am really looking forward to your photos, Charlotte! I would love to go with you! Have a great time!

    2. I hope you have a beautiful travel trip to the Expo. I am sure it will be a great time.. I will be thinking of you

Thanks so much for your nice comment on Karina’s outfit. 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful time at the Expo. And drive safe.

    4. I really envy your upcoming trip, I don’t know anyone who shares any interest in doll things or even sewing so enjoy and take some pic’s for us. Happy Travels.

So that’s how you pronounce Puyallup. I’ve always pronounced it PIE-a-loop when I’ve read it and never actually heard it said. Sounds like you’re preparing to have a wonderful time at Sew Expo. Once you make the drive is it pretty easy to access the event? Here everything is in downtown Houston, 50 miles from here. The drive is on I-10 with tons of traffic so can take a while and once you get to downtown Houston you often have to park a ways from an event so I usually don’t go. I would love to go to the Quilt Convention but not sure I can do the amount of walking and standing required.

I’ve got two pairs of slacks and a skirt that need shortening. I just need the motivation to do it. Not my favorite thing to do but usually necessary.

Jeanne, those last two pictures show completely different color green of the hat to me! I know you mentioned the dark green one was the reall color, so I am thinking some light green leaves with pink berries and flowers would look sweet on the hat! That’s the part I would love to do too, since I think decorating is my “thing”!

The sleeves look perfect now, and I also like the collar, I am noticing it is one piece, instead of two. I think Mae needs to go to a hairdresser to fix her up for a good hairstyle underneath her hat!! I sure wish she had curls!

Aha, Charlotte, I just knew it! Well, you are back and I see that you will be having fun later on this week! Be sure to take pictures and tell us all about it!

Yes, Jeanne, the Fairview Heights Ill., JoAnn’s will still be open but that is way too far from me. My JoAnn’s is about only 2 or 3 miles away on South Lindbergh. I do get there every so often, so am glad it will still be open for a good while, at least! I believe another one is also staying open in North County, but I am in South County, (Mehlville).

I just checked to see about JoAnn’s, and yes, all locations are now going to close!🥲. I hadn’t seen that latest update, and still my Joann’s has nothing about it closing, so I thought it would stay open. So sad!

Linda, I went to our nearest JoAnn’s yesterday. everything was marked 25% off. The check out girl told me it would be open 3 more months and the marked downs will continue to go down. The store was still full of everything. s

        1. What wait, whaaat? I think the one in Sterling is still going to remain open. If not, I think I am going to take the travel trip to go there today (it is nice today, oh my goodness 59º) It says it will take me 29 minutes to get there, I will pack some snacks in the car haha https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Clover+Meadow+Ct,+Broadlands,+VA+20148/47100+Community+Plaza,+Sterling,+VA+20164/@39.0450657,-77.5409857,26638m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x89b63e51689c09c7:0xd17b17ba3f9f6ef!2m2!1d-77.5234021!2d39.0274397!1m5!1m1!1s0x89b639c1b39656e7:0xeb1132eecc9b83bd!2m2!1d-77.3747741!2d39.0141519?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDIxOS4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D I just need some heavy duty felt for my design wall. It is a nice day I guess better now than …. Walmart has the same felt for 5$ MORE a yard, so I think the drive will be good

Ok, Jeanne, I hope you don’t put too high a price on this, I know I will want to bid! I love all the colors, the hat and shoes, and I know you will add more to make me want it more!!

  4. Jeanne, the back of this dress looks perfect. I noticed immediately how the leaves match together so nicely.
I love this dress on Mae. She looks so sweet.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable day,.
I am going to try to be peppy and get more pre moving tasks done.

I so love that hat. I’ve been thinking that it would be wonderful if Jeanne could put some decorations on a hatband that snaps on so that the hat could be left plain or have removable flowers etc. Because, I love it plain so that Mae can wear it with many different outfits. It is such a work of art left alone, but could then be dressed up if wanted. It’s too bad that Jeanne couldn’t have a table at the Modern Doll Convention. If she had those hats, she would probably be sold out in minutes. This style is timeless. Love it.

I believe that the Joann stores will be open until April, at which time they will all close according to news articles. The one here has out all inventory and it was selling fast. I haven’t been down to the other store, next town, but I might decide to make the trip. I probably should pick up some cute summer prints. Everything was at 40 percent off and will be heading up if there is anything left. So sad.

  6. The mix of fabrics and placement for this outfit is wonderful, and of course those shoes! When you showed the back of the dress it struck me that it could be the front! Would make a cute sorta vee neck, or sailor outfit. I love Joy’s idea of changeable hatbands, especially with a hat this cute. You know a fashionista can’t have too many choices.
    Have a good afternoon all.

I really love this little ensemble and it look so good on Mae. I can’t wait to see the embellishment on the hat. I like Joy’s idea of changeable hatbands too.

Now I’m really bummed. I hoped at least one JoAnn’s in the Houston area would remain open. Years ago I used to shop at Cloth World. When they did layaway I would put patterns and fabric on layaway when the seasonal fabrics came in. I would have the fabric paid for in time to make clothes for the upcoming season since I like to wear things right away. Then Cloth World closed. There was Hancock’s but I never liked them as well. Then Cloth World turned into JoAnn’s and I was over the moon even though layaway was no longer an option. I’ve shopped there for years but lately have done more online, but it was still good to know they were there when I needed them. The one I went to was next to a Home Depot so David would drop me off at JoAnn’s and he would go to Home Depot and I would call him when I was ready to be picked up. I will need to try to get there after church one Sunday since I will already be in the area. I’m sure with the prices decreasing I will find something I can’t live without.

Wow, Jeanne! That little dress paired with the green hat and shoes is positively adorable! That tiny green and white “check” fabric for collar and sleeve bands is the perfect compliment. It is not easy to find really small check fabric, I’ve discovered, and when I do see it, I try to purchase some for future use. One of the things I like about shopping at the online “Fabric Shack” is they will cut as small as 1/4. 1/3. or 1/2 yard if that is all one needs. Plus they show a ruler by each fabric print so you can see just how small the design is, when it comes to sewing doll outfits! I’ve tried looking at other sites that don’t show a ruler with fabrics and even emailed some, asking if they would consider showing a ruler online, but they still do not. There is a Hobby Lobby and a Walmart fairly close to us, so there is that option for quick needs like thread, notions, stuffing, and such. Our closest JoAnn’s in Round Rock is closing too, I think. But since I don’t have a car or drive in Texas traffic, the online option works for me.

I will say though, that a person like myself needs to curtail too many visits to Fabric Shack online, because of the temptation to purchase more darling prints for future use. And when that wonderful package of several 1/2 yard pieces arrives… I need to find places in my stash to organize it! Don’t think I could ever work in a fabric store…I’d be in the back room sewing new doll outfits!

I checked out Fabric Shack and totally agree that it is temptation on steroids. Another one that’s just as bad that was suggested by one of our sofa sisters is Farmhouse Fabrics. Neither of these sites will curtail my fabric and notions addiction.
