We finally got mail today… and I was happy!

Hi everyone,
I missed a comment to Joy and wanted to let her know, yes, we do have carbon monoxide detectors… and smoke alarms in just about every room and in the attic and basement. Again, that hubby of mine is keeping us safe.

Tomorrow one of our neighbors who has a tractor is going to help my hubby pull the limbs down on the birch tree that was destroyed by the ice. This is what it looks like now…

Barbara asked if I had any pictures of the tree before… This is what it used to look like. It was beautiful!

There is my fountain in the picture too and I can’t believe the falling tree limbs made a direct hit on it. I ventured out there very carefully and tried to investigate, but it’s too icy and snow covered to tell. I’m hoping it isn’t shattered. The sun came out today and melted some, but it was still very cold!

My hubby went on a “slow and steady” trip to the mailbox today when I saw the mail truck go by! It was the highlight of our day!!

Guess why? Because I had a box I was waiting for… Guess that’s not a big enough clue, is it?

How about this clue?

Or maybe this clue?

Okay, okay… enough of the hints… let’s see who I got!

She looks like she’s had a face lift, or maybe a very severe tooth ache or maybe brain surgery…

No more waiting… I just happened to be on a doll forum and someone posted they had a brand new, in the box, never played with, 13″ Ten Ping! I didn’t open her clothes and shoes yet, but I will show you what she came with when I sell her stuff pretty soon. I only wanted the nude doll. She came with little plastic pieces in her ears as they are pierced. I’ll be selling the earrings too.

I put her braided wig on and she transformed into this very sweet young lady right before my eyes.

She is made by Ruby Red Galleria and has the same body as the 14.5″ dolls I have, but Ten Ping is only 13″ tall… just a bit shorter.

I was curious about her size compared to my other dolls… Here she is next to the RRFF doll, Lavender…

Here she is next to Lian, my 13″ Dianna Effner, Little Darling. I think they look pretty close to the same size, so I’m excited about that!

This is Ten Ping standing next to Sydney, the only RRFF Siblie (12″) I have… Her eyes have turned red and so I don’t use her very often. In fact, I think I’ve only made her one, or maybe 2 dresses.

I “think” they may be able to share dresses, as their bodies seem pretty close to the same size. I did notice they have the same size feet, so that will help with shoes. I see LOTS of ladies asking for shoes for the 12″ Siblies.

What I was hoping for was a big sister for my 8″ Ten Ping. I think she works!!! :o)

Here is a picture with all the dolls so you can see the differences in them.

Yep, I think these two are going to get along just fine! :o)

Ten Ping is sold out but if you want to see what all she came with, you can click this link below and see the pictures… click on the arrows to see more pictures… then scroll down and read Ten Ping’s story. She was a limited edition of only 150 dolls. My doll is #138.

Okay, it’s January, and I’m going out on a limb and saying I’m done with dolls for this year!

Well, I hope you like her!
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, I’m so glad you finally got your mail, Jeanne! As soon as I saw that blue bag, I knew what/who you had, because I have her, too! She’s wonderful, and I love her. I thought it was clever that they put the little plastic things in the holes in her ears, rather than sending her with earrings already in place. As those of us who had the older Barbies years ago know, sometimes metal earring and vinyl do not mix for the long term. My 1960 Barbie has green ears from her earrings (even though I took them out and put them in a little plastic bag many years ago).

It’s good to see her beside some of the other dolls, to get a look at size comparison. I actually have all the sizes you show, but I know a lot of people don’t, so this should help those who are wondering.

I was on the computer at 9 a.m. sharp this morning; they have a “queue” type of thing, and I must have been right on the dot, as I only had to wait about 1 minute before I could start ordering my tickets. I got all the classes I wanted, and I found out that my friend Tonya will be in one of my classes–the watercolor painting on fabric one. Ironically, we met in a shibori dyeing class at Expo some years ago. We have become very good friends in the years since. She’s the one I do a “twinsie challenge” with every year! I believe I sent pictures of those last year, which Jeanne shared.

What a pretty doll, Jeanne! While she doesn’t look particularly Chinese to me, she certainly can be a big sister to little Ten Ping! Her hairdo is darling! What a time for there to be a mail holdup for you! While we have had mail since this past Monday, I am still waiting for some AG heart hangers I got off EBay on January 6th. They got here from Washington state in two days, but have been stuck somewhere in St. Louis since Friday. The mail has really been a mess lately with this weather. It was bad enough before it too!

So glad you have something fun to look forward to, Charlotte!

Your new girl is lovely, and what a difference her wig makes. I think you should keep the earrings and try making more to sell with her new outfits. You’ll use the clothes to make patterns before you sell them? The shoes are great — now you can try making Chinese fabric shoes. This will give you something new to plan while you are waiting for surgery.

When I had cancer surgery, we arrived when it was still dark. Then I was led off to a changing room. Eventually one of my sisters joined me. We waited and waited. A nurse offered her coffee. My sister checked her watch and suggested wine. The nurse began dancing while singing “Bottle of Wine.” Much better to take a sketch pad and a couple of photos. She may need a new name too. A capsule wardrobe might be fun to design.

  4. What a wonderful surprise in the mail. She must have been freezing but her ears were quite warm!!!
Speaking of rust from earrings, what if you used solid gold earrings?
Yes, it would increase the price but just wondering if that would work? Probably not the holes are probably much tinier.
well, I did not comment yesterday, I have a tiny cold and just taking it easy here. I do not want to get full blown sick. I have had a mild headache and stuffy for two days and starting day three.

The shoes are wonderful Jeanne. One day you will be famous and remembered for your shoes.
I love your new doll. She is a beauty.
How come the other dolls eyes turned red? Is that something unexpected! It does look quite disturbing to me. It kind of looks like a Subconjunctival hemorrhage 😱. I am happy you are getting mail, and especially your dear dolly. Goodness, I know that is like expecting a baby — seriously.
Happy Wednesday everyone. It is very cold here in Northern Virginia. 22 degrees today will be the high,. I do need to venture down to Lidl (one mile away) and I think I will wear my snow pants to keep warm.
I am supposed to be down sizing here…. but not making much headway. I need to clone myself and then I will have a chatty helper.
I hope all of you have sunshine today. It certainly does help

Can’t thank Jeanne, enough for the doll comparison photos. I agree about her size ideas. I’m so visual, that seeing them to compare the bodies is great.
The Gigi living here is also not sporting earrings, but I too removed the plastic tabs. And my Gigi, also, is not wearing any clothes at this moment except for her undies. I guess she is anxiously awaiting what Jeanne might make for her. Ha ha. So, it looks like a Siblie pattern with maybe a slightly longer bodice and a slightly longer skirt? Not sure about the LD patterns because of their sloping shoulders and larger waist, but probably could be adjusted.
As to the Ruby Red doll pink eye, as I call it, problem, RRFF’s company has a doll hospital and will repair the discolored eyes for a price. You have to mail the doll to them in China, and pay a fee. No idea how much. However, there are many who actually replace the eyes themselves. A warm hair dryer softens the area around the eyes and then the eyes can be popped out and new ones put back in. Some actually cut open the back of the head and replace the eyes that way, but it is not necessary. There are lots of videos on how to do this. I believe that the eye lashes also need to come off and be reglued after the procedure. The dolls I’ve seen after replacement eyes are installed look great. The RRFF’s company has changed eye manufacturers and says that this will no longer happen. I’m kind of afraid to look to see which of mine might have pink eye. 🙁
So glad to hear that Jeanne/George have carbon monoxide detectors. I can relax now. 🙂
Sure hope the tractor pull works to get down the downed branches on that River Birch. Hoping for a video. Yesterday, other person, and I were at the other house working on a pin oak there. We’re sawing off branches as high as we can get to before having it cut down. Unless we decide to do it ourselves. “Timber” The tree is one of the variety that the leaves never fall off completely, but stick on the tree all winter and turn brown so that the tree appears dead. Branches also die off and sit there until they fall off in a wind storm. It’s got to go along with a huge silver maple that is rotting from the inside. Other person was up on a ladder sawing a branch which was almost ready to come down. He got down and started yanking on it when it finally gave away. I think it must have twisted a bit, but some of the prickly branches caught him on the back of the head. Fortunately, no damage to him. Branch is now cut up and in the yard can for pick up. 🙂
Whoops, time is slipping by. We’re going to head out today to pick up more cat food for our kitty friends. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy, I had two great bird and squirrel videos to send from my phone, but apparently they exceed the file limit. I had no idea there was a file attachment limit. Guess I’ll have to do a shorter one.

  6. The teenage Teng Ping is lovely. Even without her wig on. Her shipping gear looked like the old time nuns habit!! I know you always sell the original clothes but I’d think twice about including the shoes. Having them as inspiration for making more of these cloth shoes to me is such an opportunity! Making her a more traditional outfit to go with them would for exciting to me. Maybe a heritage day outfit! Not a formal fancy one, more like an everyday like grandma used to wear. When I’m redressing old dolls the hardest things to find are always the shoes!

  7. Our neighbors lost their River Birch when we lost our Flowering Plum and Redbud. They got another River Birch and we got another Redbud and chose a Pussy Willow to replace the plum. They all grew quickly.
Congratulations on your new doll, Jeanne. The minute I saw the blue bag I knew who you had as I saw the pre-order etc. on FB. nice to see all the various sizes together.

  8. Susette from Southern California

The dolls are darling together for comparison. Quite a family you’ve got there. There is certainly a market for shoes for the smaller dolls.

I live 35 miles south of the fires in Southern California and my son and his family live an equal distance straight north in Santa Barbara. The area has had its share of fires in the past but fortunately none as widespread as these. It’s truly tragic! Prayers for the many families who have lost not only their homes but their communities.

I wonder whether it’s widely known that the most dangerous occupation in this country is logger? Anyone doing serious tree trimming is taking their life in their hands. Southern California has eucalyptus trees that finish people off and damage cars in the wind every year. Even walking under damaged trees is dangerous. Please hire it done or allow volunteers who are experienced in the field.

  9. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, congratulations on your new dolly daughter. I am looking forward to seeing what you create for her.

I am sorry that your tree has been destroyed. It was so pretty in the photo you shared.

Blessings to you, Jeanne, and the Sofa Sisters for safety and warmth wherever you are.
