Hi everyone,
It started snowing again this morning and if it had continued, we would have gotten a few inches, but *alas* the sun came out, the snow stopped, and it was just cold! I don’t think it made it out of the teens today. Right now it’s 5 degrees and feels like -4. BRRRR! I’m wearing a wool sweater in the house and still a bit chilly!
Here are 2 short videos of the birds at our feeders. They were eating like it was their last meal! This is what I see just outside my kitchen window. I like to wash the dishes and watch the birds. I didn’t realize when I was taking this video that my hubby was talking in the background. There were more red birds (Cardinals) out today than we’ve seen in a long time.
Now I’ll show you Sissy’s girls all “dolled” up!
Jeanne, Here are some hankie dresses I made and sold for my Kish dolls.
These are made from small hankies for small dolls like 7″ Riley size and the baby Ellery. The 11″ dolls, like Bitty Bethany and the 14″ ones like Grace.
They are all completely hand sewn, and I have given classes on making them over the years, for IDEX, UFDC, and MDCC. (Doll conventions!)
I really love to do handwork and it was fun to give the classes!
Hugs,
Sissy
OH wait… we’re just getting started!
I think Sissy gets the prize for the pretties hankie dresses around! Thank you SO much Sissy!
They are just lovely and each one is prettier than the last!
Please come back tomorrow to see some girls in pretty red and pink Valentine dresses from Debbie in North Carolina!
Thanks again,
See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
So much fun to see the cardinals, Jeanne–we don’t get those out here in the Seattle area at all.
Sissy, your hankie dresses are lovely! I would be hard-pressed to choose a favorite, although that little kimono is something very special, I think. Thank you for sharing!
I have started on my “twinsie challenge” for the upcoming Expo. The fabric isn’t nearly as difficult to sew on as I was expecting, so it’s going together pretty well. I’ll send pictures when it’s done.
Thank you, Charlotte, so glad you enjoyed them. I am looking forward to your work soon!
Jeanne, I love to watch the birds in times like this, and we also get a lot of Cardinals! They really stand out in the snow! You certainly are a lifesaver for them!
Oh my Sissy, what delightful hankie dresses you have made! And all by hand?? Each one is a work of art, and so delicate looking! I love the fact that you have several kinds of dresses, not the same pattern over and over.
I am the proud owner of just one hankie dress that happens to be for my Betsy McCall, and it is very much like the one you made on the doll the fourth picture down. Your dresses jogged my memory of that dress, and it just might be what Betsy will be wearing for Easter!
That red and white dress with polka dots and modeled by a doll with short blonde hair reminds me of American Girl doll Kit from the’30’s!
The lilac dress near the bottom is another favorite of mine, just beautiful! Well, I could go on all day complimenting you on these dresses, so I will have to get going here this morning. Where do you find all these beautiful hankie’s?
Thank you, Linda, I will look forward to seeing Betsy in her dress! I am so glad you like my dresses. I have collected vintage hankies for years. They are available on ebay and if you have a good thrift shop near by….
Good morning. I hope everyone is feeling good this morning. It is 9º here this morning but the sun is out!! Jeanne, I hope you are feeling more improvement and healing.
Sissy, oh my goodness, i have never seen anything like this!! stunning and adorable.
I can not pick a favorite. I adore all of the designs too. The lilac dress and the kimono are gorgeous. These photos are well done too. I am impressed!
Yippee, I am getting a local Walmart delivery today. It is so nice to not have to go out in this cold, find a parking spot, find a non-bumpy jiggly shopping cart and shop inside with coughing sniffling people. 😂
I hope all of you have a delightful day
Charlotte, I am looking forward to seeing your results (no pressure)
You have described a Walmart visit to a T. We had to visit ours on Monday to get packaging material for the dolls I am selling. In addition to all that you described, the place was full of children because it was a school holiday. We did not linger.
Thank you so much for your kind words about my hankie dresses. I will be sending a lot more photos as Jeanne needs them, I probably sewed and sold 200 of them.
Wow, the Cardinal video is spectacular. We don’t have them in the west, so it is a treat to view. Sounds like George, likes them too. Do you guys have any chickens left? Pretty cold for them. We love sitting outside on the deck when the weather is conducive. There are a pair of titmice nesting in our old Catalpa tree. They are fun to watch as they come out for bugs and then back into the knothole in the tree.
I’m wondering if Sissy used a regular camera for her pictures or a phone, but I love how the background frames the portrait. The outfits are lovely. I especially like the pleated 20’s look style. However, they all are so cute. Thanks for sharing Sissy and Jeanne.
It’s only 31 this morning and my jade plants are not happy at all even covered. Hope the damage isn’t too bad. I think it’s 28 in the San Joaquin Valley where our lettuce comes from. Not good for crops at all.
Got to get a move on as today is my six week eye appointment
Keep warm everyone.
Thank you, Joy. I use my phone for photos now, but when I made these I had a flip phone LOL! I used my Canon Camera.
I hope your plants serviced. I will be getting home on Friday and will be looking at my camellias to see if they survived.
Sissy’s dresses are works of art, so beautiful and detailed. I love the dresses with the dropped waists. Every ensemble is so unique in style using appropriate prints in the delicate fabric that’s and so difficult to sew together. The footwear is also remarkable from the little clogs with the dress just above the lovely kimono to all the ones that match the dresses in color and style. It’s difficult to find shoes for small dolls, let alone all the variety Sissy has found. Great use of the edging of the handkerchiefs in all the creations. Thanks for sharing your wonderful collection with us.
You’ve got quite a collection of birds there, Jeanne and George. What fun to watch!
So, hopefully, the SD fires aren’t close. The weather people are saying maybe some rain? Hope so, but not too much. Don’t want sides.
Wow, Susette, thank you for all the kind remarks about my sewing. I do love to do hand work. I have more to send to Jeanne when she needs them.
We’ll be looking for more of your beautiful creations, all hand sewn!
I agree! The prettiest hankie dresses. They are perfect for the vintage look of your Kish dolls. So much better than hankies tucked away in a drawer where they are never seen. Guilty.
We are having a snow day too. Just over an inch but the coast of North Carolina has 7+ inches. The big winner is Louisiana, just magical to see the snow in the French Quarter.
What a treat to see your cardinals and to hear George counting them in the video. Our cardinals have recently returned too. I wonder what that is about. We had them all year in the mountains of Tennessee. The peanuts we left out for the squirrels were snatched up by the blue jays early this morning. What do they say about the early bird…
Enjoy the snow day southerners!
I am so glad you like the dresses, Debbie, thank you!
Lots of birds and squirrels at our feeders this morning as well. I can’t take a clear photo or video from inside though. The ones I took recently from outside were to long to upload to my email to send. Who knew? The winter feeders are in the front yard for ease of getting to to fill from the garage and the front porch has the special vinyl curtains that people use up at the lake to protect their homes from snow. Ours are to keep snow off of the porch for the kitties and to keep the heated pads, houses, and food/ water dry and unfrozen. We dipped to 4 below last night.
Nice to hear George’s commentary on the number of birds.
What a treat your gorgeous dresses are, Sissy, on this very cold and snowy day. Vintage hankies are so beautiful and doll dresses made from them are extra lovely. I must try to pick favorites. I LOVE the blue daisy one with the turned up sleeves and the violets one. You are extremely talented!
should be too long
Just saw the news and apparently we hit 8 below last night. I saw 4 below when I got up to get a drink of water.
Thank you so much, Laura. It is fun to see who likes different ones. I love making them.
What stunning dresses Sissy I just love them especially the 20’s style.
The cardinals are lovely Jeanne what a treat to see them.
Thank you so much, Anne. I love the vintage look, too.
Love the bird videos! So many hungry little birds out there! I have one feeder in front of my art room windows, on a shepherds hook-holder, set in the front yard mulched-bush and plants area. Two days ago we had a HAWK sitting on the little redwood edging surrounding the mulched area….about 3 ft. from the windows! I called for my daughter to come look and she tried to take a photo while I tried to keep my cat from leaping up to her window seat area….but we think he spotted us parting the sheer curtains slightly and he flew away! My daughter said he was probably looking for one of the neighborhood bunnies to snatch….we have several in this subdivision, and I toss out apple wedges and fresh carrot chunks for them everyday. The food is always gone the next day. My goodness….I’ve never seen a Hawk that close to the house….we mostly have doves, sparrows and little birds with beautiful red feathered heads….not sure what those are called….we are in the middle of Texas.
And Sissy…..those hankie dresses are truly eye-catching use of hankie designs! Love the way the flexible dolls are posed in their one of a kind outfits…so realistic.
Thank you so much, Elizabeth! I had a love of fun with them.
Thank you all for enjoying my dresses. These are from years ago and I though Jeanne would only use a few and save some as she needed them! I have more to send her as needed. I started making them years ago, and most of them were sold. I thought it would be fun to show different kinds to give Y’all ideas if any of you wanted to make some.
The outfit Grace is wearing with the yellow slippers I made from the fingers of a leather glove I had.
Jeanne, your birds were so fun to see. Mine aren’t as active as their food is laid out for them on the balcony of our condo. They do get busy trying to push others away, though. We will miss the crowds we get here when we go home and fill our feeders. Let me know when you need more photos.
Love, love, love those dresses! Thank you for sharing!
