I think Twirling Slips and Fridays go together perfectly! :o)

HI everyone,
I have some slips for you to see… and they can be sold if you like them. These are for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends and the Little Darlings. I have plenty of tulle so if one sells I can make another.

Here are the Ruby Red Fashion Friends slips:

They are $14 each but will go down a dollar for each one you order after the first.
(1 slip -$14.00, 2 slips are $14.00 + $13.00) Oh, and FREE shipping!

Here are the Little Darlings slips…

The Little Darlings slips are the same as the Ruby Red Fashion Friends… $14.00 for the first one and a dollar off each slip after that first one.
1 slip is $14.00
2 slips are $14.00 + $13.00
3 slips are $14.00 + $13.00 + $13.00
etc… with FREE shipping on these too!

I will sell them off of my website here, first and then list them on Etsy later if there are still some left.

Yesterday we were talking about ballerina’s because Linda showed her girls dressed up in their tutu’s! Then today Sissy sent this to me…

Jeanne, here is a photo of my oldest granddaughter as she danced as Tinkerbell when she was 12. This was the end of year of her dance class, and the show lasted 3 hours! The first half was showing all the little kids and Emily was in most of that, helping the kids remember
their parts. The second half was all the older kids and a couple of the teachers playing the Peter Pan story. She danced through all 3 hours in the show.
I hope you can show the video of her dancing. She went on to take lessons and dance at the ballet in Seattle and went to other classes in the summers, in New York and other places. When she was in her early 20’s, the pandemic stopped the ballet and she gave it up.

Here is a video of her dancing … If you click on it, it will open in a separate window and say download. When it’s finished loading, click play and it will come on. Make sure to turn your volume up and you can hear the music. I hope you can get it to work.

Well, that’s all for slips and tutu’s!
Have a wonderful and warm wintery weekend. We’re getting snow this time… but hopefully the ice will pass us by!
See you Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

The slips are lovely, as always, Jeanne. My girls certainly like the ones I got from you about 2-3 years ago now?! I’ve lost track of time!

What a treat to watch your granddaughter dance, Sissy! Thank you so much for sharing both the still picture and the video. I remember when you were out here in Seattle visiting them one time, and we had lunch together. I think you introduced me to the Little Darlings!

Elizabeth, if you are interested in learning how to knit, check and see if there is a yarn shop near you, or perhaps someplace like JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby that also carries yarn; they very likely will offer beginner classes, and, especially in the case of a yarn shop, may be willing to sit with you one on one for a bit and help you get started. (Not everyone is like me–at 16 I wanted wool mittens, so I got a book, some needles and yarn, and taught myself how to knit! It wasn’t until several years–and projects!–later that I found out I’d been twisting my knit stitches accidentally!! πŸ˜‚ Oh, well…)

Hi Charlotte…I appreciate the suggestion but have known I couldn’t follow thru on that idea. I no longer drive, my 14 year old Mazda went to my Granddaughter when I moved to Texas, and I was glad to have made that decision….I could not handle the Texas traffic at this point in my life! One of my daughters drives me to doctor appointments or a Hobby Lobby run, or even for groceries. But often I just provide my daughter that I share a home with, my grocery list, and transfer funds to her to pick up things. Or we have groceries delivered. The closest city does not have a Jo-Ann’s and just fairly recently opened a Hobby Lobby (After I had lived here for three years!) New homes and subdivisions are popping up all around Texas it seems without thought to adequate stores or even restaurants. I find that nearly anything a person needs or wants can be ordered online and comes right to the front door! Plus, my budget is tight what with the current cost of living and I am grateful to not have car insurance and gas expenses. So I will continue learning from my British lady online and maybe check out other Youtube instruction videos! Who knows…maybe a new neighbor who knits will someday move into one of the four new-build homes on either side of us!! I’m not giving up yet!

I completely understand, Elizabeth. I am still driving (will be 79 later this month) and hope to for a while yet; I also live in an area (north of Seattle) that is relatively “rich” in resources like Hobby Lobby and such, and even a lovely yarn shop about 15 miles away!

Isn’t YouTube wonderful? You can learn how to do almost anything thru videos these days! If you have a PBS station in your area, you might check and see if they run a series called “Knit and Crochet Now”, which, as the title mentions, covers both forms of needlework, from fairly basic/simple to more advanced. I believe there is a website for that show, too, and you might be able to see their videos online.

Oh, it would be lovely if you got a knitting neighbor who could help you!! That’s how I found out I was twisting my stitches–I had a college roommate who had been knitting a long time, and she saw something I was working on and commented on how pretty my twisted stitches looked!! And that’s when I realizes I was doing them wrong! πŸ˜‚ Actually, years later I found out that the way I was doing them is actually a legitimate stitch variation, I just didn’t know it, and apparently neither did Evelyn!

How pretty the slips are, Jeanne! I was wondering, what is the difference in the two sizes? They look identical to me!

Sissy, your granddaughter is beautiful and so precise in her dancing! I enjoyed seeing it, and although I also took ballet for a short time me, I never got to her level, for sure!
Thaknk you for sending the picture and video to Jeanne!

Jeanne, are you ready for some β€œwhite stuff”? 😊

  3. Sissy, your grand daughter is a doll! What lovely delicate dancing. Her costume is beautiful!
Jeanne, these slips are very nice, I like how you constructed them!
Happy Friday #3 already here we go. I am aiming to pack up my china cabinet this week end. So much stuff. I just do not know how I will get through this but I am not going to panic!
Enjoy this day and the week-end. I hope you have sunshine at least!!

Dear Jeanne, the petticoats are so pretty and perfect for twirling. I am sure that a bunch of dollies are peeking over their Mamas’ shoulders, poking their arms, and pointing to the computer screen. Dollies love to twirl!

Thanks to Sissy for sharing information about her lovely granddaughter.

  5. Debbie in North Carolina

The slips are beautiful. I will look at my limp doll dresses and get back to you.

Linda, thank you for sending Jeanne your ballerina photos. They are lovely and sparked many memories from the sofa sisters.

Sissy, your grand daughter is a beautiful ballerina. I know you have many happy memories of watching her perform. My daughter was on stage for 15 years in theater, singing, and ballet. I am filled with gratitude for the memories of those performances. Safe travels today. I think you will just beat any southern snows

Speaking of winter, we will not get out of the 40’s next week. I know I am not getting any sympathy from those of your farther north and out west.

Like Dorothy, I will be sitting on the sofa next week cheering on the winners of Jeanne’s annual fashion parade. As the 2024 winner I will leave the contest to the rest of you. Thank you again for my prize Jeanne!

Stay warm everyone and have a good weekend!

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Debbie, great, sit next to me! You bring the popcorn, I will bring the lemonade (laugh).

  6. Joy in northern CA

The slips are lovely Jeanne. I’m sure everyone will want one. πŸ™‚

Sissy, I absolutely loved seeing your grand performing. Amazing work for a twelve year old. And she is a redhead. Our oldest is also a red. Sorry though that the pandemic got in the way. Is she teaching any classes for the young set? or is she pursing another career now?

Jeanne’s getting snow and maybe Linda too. Yay, love to see snow pics. Here, it’s raining yet again. But, since we are now at over two feet of seasonal rain right now, mother nature is going to give us a break next week. Looks like it will be clear and sunny all week. Can’t wait. πŸ™‚ Have a great weekend everyone. πŸ™‚

  7. Hi Sissy, A lovely photo of your pretty granddaughter, Emily and such a sweet costume. What a delight to see her dancing and so well en pointe, no less considering that is just begun at 12. She must have been very accomplished by the time she gave it up. Such a shame the pandemic caused that to happen. Maybe she will get back to it soon.

Woke up to a little over an inch of snow. Bitterly cold with wind. I doubt we’ll crack 30 today. I was very happy to see one porch kitty emerge from the insulated house when I came out and another waiting on the heated mat from breakfast.

  8. Forgot to comment on the slips. They are lovely, Jeanne. I’m sure all dolls will feel like ballerinas in them .

  9. Sissy, what a lovely granddaughter and getting to see her ballet program was really neat. She must have been very good to remain in it for years. And to go to all the places she did in ballet!

Jeanne, as always, your netting slips are so pretty. They could be used as ballet skirts even!
Thank you for sharing all the fun pictures.

Jeanne your slips are lovely. I love the tulle, it looks much nicer than the tulle I have seen in the shops here. Not as scratchy.
Sissy your granddaughter is lovely, I haven’t watched the video yet but I have downloaded it. My computer is asking me how I want to play this and I want to ask Sam which way would be best. My computer is so old I don’t want to overload it! It won’t even download Windows 11 because it is too old. I was going to get a new one this year but now want to save for my trip.
Charlotte, my mother was a beautiful knitter, her stitches were always perfectly even. She taught me to knit when I was 6 but I never actually made anything until I was about 15 when I made a jersey for myself but I have never had the skill that my mother had my stitches are nowhere near as beautifully even as hers. Although she was left-handed, fortunately she knitted right-handed but she crocheted left-handed so wasn’t able to teach me to do that. When I was in my twenties I decided I was going to learn. Like you I went out and bought, in my case, a leaflet and spent the whole day trying to make it work. I can’t remember how many times I said ‘I think I’ve got it’ only to realise I hadn’t. My problem was that I was a knitter and was trying to crochet the way I knitted. Anyway, by the end of the day I had managed to get it right.
My ambition, though, was never to make garments I wanted to make beautiful doilies with very fine hooks. I also used even finer hooks and edged handkerchiefs. None of my doilies have survived I had very few of them myself anyway I always gave them away or sold them but they fell out of fashion anyway so no one like them anymore. Unfortunately, I can’t do any crochet now and it is probably what has given me a very arthritic middle finger on my right hand. I struggle with hand sewing too so use the sewing machine as much as I can. Knitting is OK because I don’t really use that finger much but neither is it completely still if you know what I mean. With crochet and hand sewing I use that finger all the time but it stays in the same position. Anyway, enough of my woes.
I think we had our summer early! Since Christmas Day, which was lovely and just right, the weather has been nasty. Cold and rain almost constantly which is very unusual for us here on the east coast. It probably won’t change until Feb when the kids go back to school!
    Have a lovely day everyone.

Interesting about your mother, Anne; my late mother-in-law was also left-handed, and did a Lot of crochet work, mostly handles on towels for the kitchen. She used finer thread (Knit-Cro-Sheen, if you’re familiar with that brand, using a hook about size 2 [US] as I recall), so the handles were smooth cotton rather than fluffy yarn. Her towels were always very popular at her church bazaar every year. I still have one or two that she made for us, that are in occasional use. She taught me how to do them–I already knew how to crochet, so it was just a matter of learning the “formula” for decreasing up to where the handle starts, and so on, and then doing a shell around the edges and sewing a shank button in place. I’ve made so many of them thru the years, I no longer need a pattern. It’s getting hard, though, to find the nicer terry kitchen towels to cut in half and use for this project.

I think my knit stitches are fairly even, as I’ve been knitting for over 60 years now, but not sure about the “perfectly” part!!

This last week has been crazy and for some reason I couldn’t seem to stay on the blog long enough to comment. It’s now noon and I’m just managing to get to it even after the holidays. I’ll try to catch up on some of the things.

First, I love, love, love Elizabeth’s doll house. What a clever piece of creative work that is and what a labor of love. I always wanted to build a doll house but haven’t got around to that yet. My dad built one for me and my sister. It was kind of a colonial style. Then when my two younger sisters came along he built them a stylish ranch house. Sadly the colonial doll house got destroyed in a flood in our basement. I think one reason I love my home design program is it’s kind of like a virtual doll house and one that I can design easily and doesn’t take up much room. Elizabeth has a lovely great-granddaughter, and I know she’s over the moon about having such a wonderful doll house to enjoy with her friends.

As for New Year’s resolutions, I had one last year that I followed and it worked well. I always did a Christmas letter to include with my cards but the past few years I have not done so well with it. I took a lesson from my father-in-law where he kept a diary of happenings during the year that he turned into a letter at Christmas time. I did that last year on the computer and it worked very well. Trying to remember the past twelve month’s happenings just wasn’t working since I often left important things out. It was easy to clean up my draft and print out copies so I actually got both the cards and letter out before Christmas. As for resolutions this year, let me think on that one.

I loved the video of Sissy’s granddaughter. What a lovely dance. She evidently has much talent. So sorry to hear she’s stopped her dancing. Both my daughter and son danced all the way through elementary, middle and high school. Andrea was dancing for a few years when I noticed Sean seemed fascinated by it so I asked him if he’d like to take dancing. He said yes and he was good at it, including doing musical theater after high school. Both my kids were the triple threat (act, dance & sing) so it really surprises me neither of them still do it at all. As they got older Andrea and Sean were in the same dance class. He was the only boy in the class so the year they danced to music from “The Phantom of the Opera” he, of course, was the Phantom. I have a picture of the two of them in their costumes and it’s one of my favorites.

Linda, you are so on top of things. I always love your pictures. My Betsy says Happy New Year to your Betsy.

On New Year’s Eve we go early for dinner and meet Sean and his family at Texas Roadhouse. Then we get off the roads before the crazies take over. We went home and watched some shows until time to switch to a channel celebrating New Years. Sean and Dionne got Azure to bed and then they and Skyy and Jaiden played games until midnight. Then they drank sparkling grape juice. We toasted the New Year with Egg Nog since I don’t like Champagne and couldn’t find the sparkling wine I wanted.

I still need to go back and read the comments for the past few days. I’ve never been so far behind before. But the holidays are not over here by a long shot. We have David’s birthday on 1/6, our anniversary on 1/19, Dionne and Azure’s birthdays on 1/21 and then Jason and Stephanie’s wedding on 1/25. And I promised to take Jaiden shopping for her birthday so need to figure out when to fit that in. Truly a busy time of year for us.
