Hi everyone,
Sissy sent me some pictures and I will use them tomorrow! Thanks So MUCH!
I am doing better, although you’d never know it by the looks of my leg. The one big bruise at the top of my thigh has grown to the size of a softball and is solid dark, dark purple. Then I have various other bruises down my leg. It’s not pretty now, but hopefully it will be one of these days.
Ingrid, you mentioned or maybe asked, why did I have to be awake during the procedure? You don’t have to be wide awake (like I was) but they want you to be somewhat responsive so you can tell them if anything is burning or hurting so they can make sure they aren’t doing any nerve damage or getting too close to your skin when the turn the “heat” on! I know it sounds really scary, but I’m pretty sure they know what they are doing.
Debbie, you mentioned you hubby was going to have this procedure? Well, guess what? So is my hubby. He has had extremely swollen legs and ankles for probably 10 years and since having both his knees replaced, they have gotten worse. When we were up at my doctor’s appointment a while back, and they were telling us what they could do for my legs, I looked at my hubby and said, “Hey, maybe they could fix your legs too!” The doctor chimed in and said, “Sure, we can take a look at yours, do an ultrasound on yours and see if we might be able to help.” He had always been told it was just Lymphedema and to wear compression hose. Well, long story short, they did an ultrasound on his legs and found the “valves” in his groin are not working well either. They told him he needs to have 4 different surgeries though… one in each leg like I just had… cauterizing the Saphenous vein, and then 2 surgeries on the back of his legs, from the back of his knee to his ankle. They call it reflux when the blood can’t get back up the leg to your heart. He will have quite a few months of surgeries and trips back for follow-ups. So this Spring looks like a busy one but I’ll surely be healed up from mine, so it will be my turn to play nurse again. His first surgery is the end of this month. Oh boy, let the fun begin! :o)
My hubby went outside and checked on the fountain, now that all the snow and ice has melted. The fountain did NOT have any cracks or broken pieces, but it came apart and needs to be glued or cemented back together some how…He stacked it together in a pile for now. He also has a LOT of limbs to haul off. I know he’s going to want to get that done before his surgeries start… it’s just been SO cold out. Right now it’s 13 degrees and feels like -3. BUT.. I just checked the temps in Denver Colorado, and the temp is -3 and the windchill is -13! So I’m not complaining!
All the talk about Linda’s girls in their ice skates, made me remember an ice skating story. When I was probably 10 or 12 I wanted a pair of ice skates because we had a pond in our front yard. Our house was out in the country on a small hill and the front yard dipped down where the pond was and then went back up to the road. We used to swim in it and fish too. There was a dock and we’d have kids come over from school and have a “pool, or maybe a pond party!”
Anyway, for Christmas one year, I got a pair of pretty white ice skates but when I put them on, my toes were pretty squished in them. Not wanting to wait for my mom to have to take them back for a bigger size, I decided they’d be fine. :o( I went outside and tried to skate in them but between the ice-cold weather and the fact that they were entirely too small made my feet hurt SO much! I tried faking it but I was miserable! I don’t know how many times I tried skating with them, but I was probably praying hard for Spring to come so the ice on the pond would melt and I wouldn’t have to wear them anymore. I don’t remember if I ever told my mom!
A few people wanted to see the leather flower that I punched out and said was “about the size of a dime.” Well, I was right… it’s a bit smaller than a dime… as you can see here. They will fit nicely on shoes for Mae or on a purse… and maybe on the Ruby Red’s but I’ll have to curl them just a bit… which makes they a little smaller looking. I may write to the Etsy shop and ask if they could do a custom flower in a 10mm size.
Someone, (maybe Marilyn?) mentioned today was a good day for soup. I agreed and made my V-8 Hamburger soup. It was so good, but I forgot to take a picture of it. I’ll have to do that tomorrow as I’ve already put it away. It was the perfect dinner meal! I also made a loaf of Italian bread in my bread maker! YUMMY!
One more thing…someone asked me if the outfit and shoes for my new 13″ Ten Ping doll would fit the Little Darlings… I decided to unwrap the clothes again and slipped them very carefully on Lian to see. The shoes were way too big. I was surprised…
You can see the beginning of Lian’s toes in the opening of the shoes.
Then I tried on the pants… they were too short and couldn’t be fastened at the waist.
I slipped on the gold plaid top and it fit okay, but the cream top with the loops and pearls looked too small and I didn’t undo it and try it on her.
I do think I can make dresses that would fit both dolls, but I’ll probably just work on making them for the Siblies and 13″ Ten Ping… They seem more like they are the same size. I think their feet are relatively the same size. I did take a few measurements from those sweet little cloth Asian shoes and might try to mimic them.
Well, that’s it for me today… don’t forget to come back and check out Sissy’s outfits on her dolls tomorrow. Maybe I’ll be back in my sewing room very soon!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
HI all, sorry I forgot to check out Jeanne’s blog last night. I’ve read thru it now and enjoyed Linda’s pictures so much. I was an ice skater as a child–they would flood the practice football field behind the high school, and that’s where we skated! My very first ice skates (when I was 6 or 7) had four runners, two in front and two in back; the next pair had one long double runner, with the blades about 1/4″ apart. Then, regular figure skates! Since I have a January birthday, my birthday parties were often skating parties.
In 1960 we moved to Seattle, and one day a lady in our church asked if I’d like to go ice skating with her and her family. I said, sure, but it’s not cold enough to go ice skating yet! (In Seattle it almost NEVER gets “cold enough” to go ice skating outside!) I didn’t know that “regular people” could go ice skating at a rink!! I haven’t been ice skating in many years, and of course now, at almost 79, I wouldn’t dare try.
Jeanne, I do hope and pray that your surgery has taken care of the problem, and that your healing continues without a hitch. And for George, when the time comes, the same thing. But wow, FOUR procedures for him?! We’ll definitely be doing some praying–for both of you!
Also, I’m glad your fountain didn’t break; coming apart was bad enough!
Jeanne, I’m happy to hear that you are coming along, and seem so “chipper” and positive! As for George, here’s hoping the same outcome will be his, but oh gee, so many trips to the doctor’s for the two of you! Well, it happens!
Oh, there you are Charlotte! Thank you for liking my pictures, and giving us a picture of your “younger” days! I now remember my first pair of skates, which I forgot about until you mentioned skates with two and four runners! I had some that attached to regular boots that had two runners on each foot, so we really didn’t have to balance ourselves, and we would skate on our frozen sidewalks! Not really ice skating, but we had fun with that! I must have been 5 or 6.
As for as squished toes in ice skates, Jeanne, my mother had kept hers from when she was a teen, and I did try them on, but they were SO uncomfortable, that I never took up skating, and can only remember my feet hurting in them!
Boy, does George have a lot to do in the yard! Better not do anything out there today with this dangerous weather we are having now! Better weather is coming later this week!😊
Good morning, it is cold in the 20’s up here in the mountains, but, strangely enough, the snow is further south from us. The birds are flocking all over the seed right now, we will go back to the Ace hardware for more. We will try to get in a couple more exercises in the indoor pool today and Thursday. We leave on Friday, and as soon as we get home all the going here and there for this and that starts again. It has been so nice to just stay here in our little nest most of the time.
I have to add that I did some ice skating too. When I was in high school we went to a roller skating rink just about every Friday and Saturday and also on Sunday afternoons if we could make it. I got pretty good at that, so when I married and moved to Michigan to put my first hubs through dental school, I found that I could ice skate as well. There was a park behind our house that was turned into ice for skating in the winter and there was a lake where his parents lived froze over, so we had fun there too. I wasn’t great at it but could go backwards as well as forward.
Jeanne, I repeat that I am so glad your surgery is done and am praying every day for a good result. Now I add George to my prayers. What an ordeal for him. I am so sorry Y’all have all this trouble. I know I sent a lot of photos, you can save some for later.
Wishes for all of us to stay warm in this weather!
Jeanne, I am happy to learn you are recovering… slowly, and that bruising sounds painful. Do they encourage ice packs for swelling? or not? I am comforted to know you are sticking strictly to the doctors orders (I have problems with that even as a nurse myself) I hope this is a week of healing.
Your yard looks so discouraging,. What a damaging mess. I hope all the guys working out there are careful. As the branches melt or other things break, one can be severely injured. My husband reminded me this morning that I love winter. Perhaps I should get dressed and get out in it and see if that is still true.
I love ice skating. As a kid I skated at the local pond.
Then as an adult, no time for skating. My oldest sister died at age 48 (2000) from smoking she had a stroke. I was so depressed. I took up skating at the local rink. Became obsessed with it, bought custom fit expensive boots, and expensive blades.
I even had a fun coach, Nick Perna. I skated almost every week day while the girls were in school. I got really good. I skated at two rinks (one in Maryland) for about 8 years. Had loads of skating friends. Then one day, in 2012, I got tired of rink people, bad ice, the washington beltway, — but I was super buff. Wow. I had muscles. Funny how we work out our emotions.
That was long ago, I stopped skating in 2012 shortly before I started taking care of my parents. I still have my skates and dream frequently of those skating days.
Today I should get some chores done. I do not have to shop much anymore because I have Walmart+ so wow, that is a huge difference, right? any of you get delivery groceries? It is expensive, but I just cut other corners.
Here is another long story, I want to get rid of a lot of things I am not feeling attached to, furnishings and stuff. Someone in my new (soon) neighborhood, at one of the group gatherings, stated they sold all of their stuff on Facebook market place.
so I put one item up. some crazy mirror that was left in this house by the previous owner. Hubbs and I always thought it weights a ton, but apparently not.
It looks just like this: https://www.chairish.com/product/14200013/mid-century-art-deco-9-beveled-step-mirror I put it on the FB market for $20. My inbox was flooded.
It was annoying. Well, a very cute young couple in Alexandria Virginia drove over to buy it. I was actually so happy because they were. They carried it out and said it was not that heavy. it was not in perfect condition, a little chip and a loose panel, but just not my style at all. Funny we lived with that mirror for 20 years in the ‘office”
So, I have a list of other things I would sell, but no. I do not like FB market place.
I even thought of selling my figure skates for a jillion dollars hahaha
Now, I think I will just wait until after we move out. Maybe we can have a “garage sale” and have an agent handle it all. I do not care about the money, I just do not want some of these items going in the junk yard. You know, some people need stuff!!
Happy Tuesday everyone. It is bitter cold here today, I am staying in – well, unless I decide to bundle up and tramp around the property.
Rosemary, about selling things when you decide to move out, one of our neighbor’s moved to a retirement home recently, and had an online auction company do the sales for them. It went very smoothly, no one was calling or emailing and they had a certain time when the high bidders could come and take what they bid on. I’m sure it did cost something, and it might not be available where you live, but it might be and is so much easier than a garage sale. Just about everything was sold and what wasn’t, was donated to a local charity. Everything was donated e online, each item had a picture and then you could put in your bid. Since the prices always went up, you always got more than a garage sale.
I agree with Linda, Rosemary – an online auction company is the way to go. A former neighbor of ours turned her stuff over to an auction company when she moved to a retirement home and they took care of everything. Of course they charged a commission, but it saved her a lot of hassle.
The same auction company handled the sale of hundreds of model airplane kits my brother had that he needed to get rid of. We took them to the auction house and they took it from there. We didn’t have to do photographs or descriptions or anything.
Jeanne, I hope you heal quickly and feel better soon. And Lordy, your poor hubby, with all those surgeries coming up – Good Luck to him. Our son lives in the Chicagoland area, so I check the temperature there almost daily. OMG!! it’s been cold there! I’m surprised the snow melted – I guess it happened BEFORE this recent cold snap? I’m originally from (and most of my siblings live there) Wisconsin, and it’s even colder there! -11 degrees currently!!!! Yikes! And I’M freezing here in Arizona!
Well, hello from cold land. It’s 32 this morning and a good thing that I covered the plants last night. I know that is mild compared to many places, but very cold for us here in CA.
I’m so happy to hear that Jeanne’s fountain has survived. Maybe check with a masonry place and find out what mastic to use to stick the fountain back together as not everything works. When you find out, let me know as I have one to put back together too. 🙂
I too used to ice skate. As a child though, my passion was outdoor roller skating on those skates with metal wheels. The sidewalks were my playground. In junior high school, a local ice rink opened up and everyone I knew was there on Friday nights. Ice skating was really not much different from roller skating and skiing so it was lots of fun for me. I never took lessons, but it was fun to do a stop like in skiing and throw up some ice. During summers in the mountains, the rink at Squaw Valley was open so a friend and I usually spent a day there skating on the Olympic Rink. The last time I skated was for an event for my elementary school at our local Charles Schulz skating rink. It was a fund raiser so part of the sales went to our school. It was fun skating with my students and daughter as well. Haven’t tried it since, but it appears that you never forget how to skate. Kind of like riding a bike. 🙂
Glad to hear that George, is up next for repairs. Heal quickly Jeanne, so you can be onboard for George. Be thinking of you both.
Hi Joy, I haven’t forgotten about bird/squirrels photos/ videos. It’s just too cold to be outside and wait to get some. It was 8 degrees this morning. i also have been too busy setting up extra things for the outdoor kitties, both on our porch and my elderly friend’s down the street. I’ll get to it eventually.
Oh, no rush. Kitties first I always say. 🙂
Absolutely!! 😸🥰 We may have 10 below tonight. ☹️ I want spring!!!
The squirrels do their birdfeeder antics year round.
That is unbelievably cold. Hope the kitties snuggle together to keep warm.
Hi Laura! It is so kind of you to care for the outdoor kitties. You are so thoughtful and sweet! Have a great week and stay warm
Hi Jeanne. Great that your recovery is continuing and hope all the bruising disappears quickly!
On 1/16, when you posted Ten Ping’s case and outfit for sale, I sent you an email via the website. I never received a reply so assumed it was sold. Since you referred to it in today’s post, it looks like it’s still available. Please let me know if you’d still like that outfit to go to a new home. My Ten Ping would like very much to have it.
Thanks very much. Cheryl Mahoney
Sounds like you’ll have a lot on your plate soon, Jeanne, so it looks like the sofa sisters will have to fill in some. Whatever you need, we’ll help out. We will all keep the prayers coming as well.
I mentioned that I used to skate on the neighbor’s pond, but when I was in junior high the city built an indoor rink and we went there as often as possible. It cost more than skating on the ponds and lakes, but the cost wasn’t bad at all. My church youth group used to go for skating trips to lakes in the Poconos and that was always a lot of fun. The indoor rink could get crowded but there was plenty of room on the lakes and you didn’t have to keep watching out for other people. My first pair of skates was a pair of hockey skates handed down by my cousin. But my friend got new figure skates and they were so pretty and I wanted some like them. Finally I outgrew the hockey skates and my parents bought me my pretty white figure skates. I know they made me a better skater. Probably an attitude thing.
It was 29 (feels like 19) when I got up this morning and snowing. But it has stopped now and the temps are going up a little at a time. We had some ice but that is gone so the streets are clear but there is still snow on the grass. We are supposed to get more snow through the night but then we will gradually warm up tomorrow so it won’t last long. It was pretty to watch. I opened the door to take some pictures and it is quite chilly out there.
Barbara, I’d love to see your TX snow pics. 🙂
We’re up to 13 degrees here, and the worst of the cold is over. The wind is blowing snow all over — it’s very pretty — and it’s clouding over. Maybe we’ll have more snow. I’ve cancelled a doctor’s appointment – no sense in breaking bones trying to get there.
I’m going to send your email to a friend with lymphedema, but what if this could help her? You may inspire leg surgery all around the country — or world.
I love the fabric shoes. You could start a new doll fashion.
Now it’s my turn to make soup. Ebay just sent me a cream soup bowl. Here it is —

Hi Marilyn, what a pretty soup bowl. My grandmother’s service for 12 cream and gold German china that I now have has those double handled soup bowls as well. I absolutely loved them as a child. Something very elegant about bowls with handles and two of them at that.
Very beautiful soup bowl. I love it.
Oh, Marilyn, I love the china. In fact, I kind of a china collecting freak I guess. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
I hope your healing is continuing to go well, Jeanne. Oh, dear, for George. Four surgeries. I’m glad your fountain wasn’t broken and can be repaired.
Definitely a hot soup day around here as well.
Hi Jeanne
Thanks for answering … they do know what they are doing and thinking about it that makes perfect sense. I’m so glad hubby is going to get fixed up too. By the time it’s his turn you’ll be feeling fine and can be his cheerleader as he heals! Prayers continue for a complete healing.
I really enjoyed reading everyone’s ice skating stories. I think I’ve mentioned before I was born in the Netherlands. I was on skates as soon as I could walk. There skating and biking are second nature but there’s no way you’ll be catching me doing either anymore!
Happy almost hump day!
School canceled here tomorrow little man will want nana to play outside brrrr!
Stay safe and warm
Ingrid
