Hi everyone,
Thanks for your feedback on the sweaters… I didn’t have time to comment today as I was in the kitchen most of the day… Here is one of the things I made… a wonderful Four Layer Chocolate Delight… and it’s YUMMY! I’ve been making this for probably 40 years!
I discovered the silver sweater wasn’t as stretchy as the gold one was, so I didn’t have to coat the edges with the stiffner when I cut out the pieces. But I also discovered that the non-stretchy one wasn’t as forgiving as the gold one either. It was almost like a cluny lace or a crocheted cotton lace.
I still managed to make a decent sweater, but I’m still going to work on my pattern some. I thought putting in raglan sleeves would make it easier than setting in sleeves with “ravely” cut edges. I just have to get it right up around the neck area.
My plan was to make it out of the ribbed part of the sweater, but the design at the bottom of the silver sweater was bigger than the gold ribbing, and that design took up about half of the sweater front… so I opted to just use the lacy part which was the sleeves on the original sweater.
So here are a few pictures of Lavender wearing it with the skirt. The more I look at Lavender, the more I see just how pretty she really is!
I didn’t actually “know” there was a “design” in the “laciness” of the sweater sleeves… so the design on the sweater isn’t symmetrical. Kinda bugs me, but it’s too late to worry about it.
The back isn’t finished yet, but I’ll try and get that done…
I’m going to have to scrutinize my sweaters now whenever I see one… checking on the stretchability of them, how much “trim” can I use on it, and how big the ribbed edging is.
Someone asked if I had silver leather… I actually do… and I have those sparkly tights I found at our thrift shopping time with Rebecca that I can make her some thigh highs out of.
Well, that’s it for today… I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Your dessert looks delicious, Jeanne!!
Oh, now I do like this sweater. Using all the fancy part for the entire sweater just works perfectly. The neckline is a little different than on the beige one, but I like it, too.
You are so right, Jeanne, that different sweater knits stretch different amounts, and that has to be taken into account when you are sewing with them, so you don’t end up with something too baggy or too tight!
Can’t wait to see what’s next!
The new sweater is very pretty, Jeanne, but I can see right through the openings in the sweater design, and think it might be a bit chilly for Lavender! I was thinking maybe some kind of camisole, made of sheer fabric (gray tulle?)might work for that so called problem, and could even have an attached slip to flare out the skirt. That might be asking too much, but I just thought I would mention it.
I am wondering if you will be embellishing the sweater with sequins or pearls? Or maybe a pretty brooch?
Oh good, you do have silver leather! I am the one who asked, and both of those sparkly tights would work, although I am thinking the lighter pair the best. It looks like Lavender will be sparkling all over, come New Year’s Eve!
Barbara, I am so sorry to hear about Jaden’s mother-in-law’s health. Praying for peace and comfort to the family. What a time for news like this!
Correction!!!
Barbara, I mistakenly wrote “Jaden’s” mother-in-law, instead of Andrea’s! My apologies!
No problem. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. I can’t always keep my family straight either. The boys get very annoyed when I refer to them by the wrong name. My mother had Barbara, Beth, Beatrice and Beverly and had so much trouble getting out the one she wanted she jokingly started calling us B1, B2, B3 and B4.
I love the sweater, Jeanne, but agree with Linda, she needs a camisole underneath, brrr! I know the rest of this outfit will be fabulous, seeing all you have to add to it!
We now have a new roof, it was 24 years old and living near water and storms has caused too many shingles to fly off, too many times. Also the guys with the barge are out at our dock putting in larger pilings to stabilize it. We love living here, looking at the water every day, even though we no longer have a boat, but it is hard on the dock and house. Strangely enough, FEMA came by last week to see if we need help with storm damage! Hoping that will help.
It’s amazing how much joy a new roof can bring. When they put on our new roof they took out the sunpipe that had been leaking badly. So with that leaking into my sewing room and never knowing where leaks were going to show up in the rest of the house I was in a panic every time it rained. If I knew rain was coming I would make sure to cover my worktable with a plastic tablecloth but sometimes it would start in the night and I would wake up and run to my sewing room to cover my table. I still think about that sometimes when it rains and breathe a sigh of relief I no longer have to worry about that. Congrats on your new roof and your reinforced dock.
I think you live in my dream location. Hubby not so much. He does not like living anywhere near the water.
-Wow, what a terrible place for a leak! I am glad it is fixed.
As for water living, I grew up right at a beach and it is in my blood, I guess. I do miss swimming in the ocean, but we have the occasional gators in our river. So we go to the Y for water exercise twice a week. I have been doing that for many, many years and finally got my hubs to do it with me several years ago. Now he would drag me out if I didn’t feel like going!
Glad to hear about the finished roof and on to the dock. I’ve never considered that a dock had to be stabilized or replaced. Here, it’s decks. Ha ha. Glad FEMA visited too.
Joy, our dock is on a river and the water flow changes things. The pilings are put way down in the bottom but the river flow eventually wears down the bottom and you need taller pilings. Expensive! Living by water is not cheap, but oh so lovely.
Dear Jeanne, I love the outfit as it is coming together. It definitely speaks “New Years celebration” to me.
Now, this is a perfect sweater with the cute skirt. Love how it looks. If you hadn’t mentioned the pattern, no one would ever know. The overall look is perfect. The accessories to go along with the outfit are wonderful. Lavender will be the perfect hostess in this outfit for sure. Maybe she’s having a few friends over to make Christmas cards, socialize, or maybe even to make cookies. How about a little sparkly bracelet to go with the outfit? Just a thought. And as to making more sweaters, I do hope so. Have you made any from socks? Those would be cute too. 🙂
Have to hurry along today as it’s eye appointment day.
Ha ha, I forgot that it was a New Years outfit. Well, maybe Lavender, and friends can toast in the New Year with some sparkling cider and donuts?
The sweater turned out wonderful. Using the sleeves gave it a whole different look than I thought it would have. Will you be making more sweaters out of the body of the sweater? I agree she needs something underneath the sweater both for chill and modesty. Both the gold and the silver sweater would also look great with a nice pair of blue jeans.
While I was waiting for my iron to heat up this morning, I decided to make use of the time by beginning to dress my dolls for the holidays. I started with Tiny Betsy and I can say the drawer idea was the best. I found her drawer (eventually I will know the location of each dolls drawer without searching) and took it to the ironing board, picked out Tiny Betsy’s Christmas dress, got her changed and replaced the drawer. No unstacking and restacking boxes or trying to find a place to put the ones I’ve done until I get to the bottom of the stack and put them all back. Definitely one of my better ideas.
Sissy’s mentioning her dock reminded me of my fixing a dock. Well it was part of my home design program. There used to be a wonderful site where you could download items people had created into the object library. It got hacked so many times the woman who did it gave up. Have no idea why she didn’t back it up but she didn’t and recreating the site was very labor intensive. Some of the contributors did some pretty clever things and one of the things someone did was a wonderful pontoon boat. I love using it in my designs but I didn’t have a dock for it. Someone finally created one but it was an “old” dock with planks all askew or missing. I opened it in the custom workshop and unlocked the pieces and straightened the crooked planks and copied and pasted the ones missing and now I have a lovely complete dock to moor my boat. It was a lot easier than what Sissy’s workers are doing but probably a whole lot more fun.
Lovely weather today. It hit the 30s for the first time last night, barely. It was 39. Right now it is in the 50s and the sun is shining brightly. My favorite kind of day.
Oops! Forgot to mention the dessert looks yummy. Will you be sharing the recipe? Or have you and I missed it.
So very sorry to hear about Andrea’s mother-in- law, Barbara. Prayers for comfort and peace for her son and family.
My mom is an only child and I am an only grandchild on her side. I sometimes got called by my mom’s name and I just answered and then my grandmother would laugh and say, “Oh sorry sweetie, I meant Laura.” I found it funny actually.
The gray sweater is very nice, but I prefer the gold one. I loved the cowl neckline. We are such a divergent group to make happy!😊 Although I love the pearls on the gold sweater, since they seem to be leading everyone to winter white, if you changed the pearls to amber faceted glass beads maybe then a golden brown cordoroy might work. And a sparkly matching bracelet or hair clip. Any thoughts about that? It’s so much easier from the sofa than actually doing the work, haha
sweaters- they are tricky to sew with, I really should work on that now that the grand girls are into dolls and clothing, most particularly outer layers.
I adore this sweater. I like the way you finished up the top with the neck. That was tricky.
I am reminded of “tiny sewing” as my former employment was an RN in an orthopaedic surgery practice. Lots of unsewing (stitch removal) however often also sewing up a few places that needed continued slower that usual healing. One guy came in– get ready — he had cut himself with a chain saw on his thigh. HUGE cut. I wont go into details but that was bad. I ranks right up there with one of the worst surprises I everrrr endured (my boss was a prankster) as he had asked me to “just remove the dressings” Okay, just push that out of your heads!!!!
Anyway, on to brighter happy things: I like the fabric for the thigh highs
This entire outfit is delightful.
It is pouring rain here in Northern Virginia.
Now, that thigh cut will be floating around in my head for some time. Everytime I see other person with his saw swinging around, I’ll remember it. (
I just read all of the above comments, what a joy to show up later. Ha, so happy for all of you.
I may be in the minority here but I like the gold sweater much better. The cowl neckline is so original, especially with the embroidery. It’ll make a nice start to another outfit with slacks or a skirt.
The dessert looks yummy. Love chocolate!🥰
