Happy Friday everyone,
We made it through the week and hope you are looking forward to the weekend. I sure am… and hope to get caught up on lots of things.
First up… look at my Amaryllis Cindy brought me for Christmas. It’s really taken off and is so pretty. I bet it will be in full bloom when Christmas gets here.
Second… thank you to the winner of Rebecca’s Civil War dress, “Christmas is Coming!” I appreciate the winner buying it and hope you enjoy seeing it on your doll. :o)
Third… Elizabeth sent me pictures of the Santa’s and Snowmen she’s been working on… Come back Monday to see them… they are wonderful!
I was busy today trying to figure out the shoes for Lavenders New Years’s Eve outfit, but first decided I needed to make some thigh highs so I could see if the shoes fit right. I’m SO glad I bought those little girl tights when we were out thrift shopping with Rebecca and Karn. They are exactly what I needed…
Then I decided the shoes had to be just right. I read the comments and saw where lots wanted flats… ballet flats, and a few wanted something strappy… maybe on the Mary Janes… so I tried drafting a new pattern, and got it “almost” right. I need to raise the back of the heel area up just a bit… but I was happy with them.
Let’s see what you think…
The shoes have a silver stretchy cord that goes across the foot, so there is no snap or button… you just slide the dolls foot under the stretchy cord and push them on.
The silver leather wasn’t quite stiff enough and when I tried to glue the bottom sole onto the bottom of the shoe, it was kind of stretchy like and not as even as I like my soles to be, so I used a flat back middy braid to make the sole area look nicer.
I found some sparkly Rondells in my jewelry findings… They are little round spacers that have tiny rhinestones around the edge. I used a silver bead in the center to sew them to the shoe and also look like a button or snap.
After I got the shoes and thigh highs finished, I was thinking about what Linda said, “maybe combine the slip and the camisole” to help hold out the skirt and also make the sweater “non-see through.” This is what I came up with… but it’s NOT finished yet…
I put Lavender’s skirt on… (you have to fiddle with it just a bit to get it over the slip because I didn’t make the skirt open all the way to the hem…) oops!
And now you can see how the cami will work to keep all that skin from showing through the holes in her sweater.
I laid Lavender down when I was finished and she looked so pretty just laying there on my table… so I took this picture…
Well, I’ll see what I can come up with over the weekend to get this finished.
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, gosh, this outfit keeps getting better and better! The shoes and thigh-highs are perfect with the dress, and I love your slip idea–very similar to a slip I had as a little girl, where it was a slip bodice, and then a tiered skirt. Of course, mine was white cotton, nothing sparkly about it at all, but, until I got my first “can-can”, I was quite happy with it!! (Now, the can-cans, I LOVED!! It’s partly what drew me into square dancing years ago, and why I ended up with over a dozen petticoats in every color you can imagine, including silver!)
By the way, Pixie Faire had a Friday Freebie today, for a set called “Girls on the go”, which is luggage for your 18″ dolls (although I’m sure it would work well with the Ruby Reds, too). It’s here: https://tinyurl.com/yptm8whx I won’t print this one off, as I have something very similar from Primrose Lane, which I did make up for Molly, years ago. Turned out very cute!
this is a sweet and superb memory Charlotte. What fun dancing is. I used to be a figure skater and it is just so fun.
I found that travel set too on Pixie Faire, I did down load it but not sure I will make it, maybe the tote bag…. 😂 well, not that does not really need a pattern, and I think I would make a cuter one. with boxed corners
Bonjour.
Jeanne, your Amaryllis is exciting and beautiful, it looks like you are going to have quiet a show.
We can’t have plants because we have kitties that chew things. I have had a few plants and they have to stay on top of the curio.
Your slip is perfect. Have you tried putting on the skirt first then pulling on the slip and easing the bodice through the opening? I am not even sure that would be easier. I love the shoes and the stockings. Lavender looks adorable
Jeanne’s amaryllis is already beating mine in growth. A gift from daughter’s mother in law at Thanksgiving. Mine is sort of sitting there and not growing very quickly. Maybe because it is next to two others that bloomed last year and are still showing signs of life, sort of. It may be seeing it’s future. 🙁 I agree with Georgina, that I really should take off the wax and plant them both in pots. It doesn’t seem to be high priority right now though as it’s raining again. The weather people report that we are to receive three inches over the weekend. Fortunately, not as much as the last big storm.
Lavender is looking great in her new spiffy shoes with sparkle closures. The shoes go well with those pretty thigh highs too. I think I’d like to see straps on that cami, but it serves the purpose well. I’m sure Lavender is excited for the upcoming holiday events.
After seeing Jeanne’s dessert yesterday, I’ve been thinking about cheesecake. I haven’t made one in a long time. We’ll see how it goes next week.
Where has the time gone this morning? I have been trying to catch up on things here that I neglected to do while I had my cold, and I guess this was one thing I forgot to do!
I just took my banana bread out of the oven, and it smells heavenly on this cold, dreary day!
Oh, the camisole and slip combo is just darling and if it had more of an underskirt, it could almost be a ballet outfit! So pretty! Are you putting straps on the top?
Maybe putting the skirt on over her head might be easier than from up around d her feet. I was going to mention about what Rosemary said about putting the skirt on first, but then realized that the camisole top was also sewn onto the slip, marking that impossible.
The shoes are perfect and I love the sparkly clasp on the sides! This outfit is getting prettier every day! How about something sparkly for her hair?
I forgot to mention, maybe a pretty sparkly silver necklace and bracelet would give this outfit just what a New Year’s celebration needs!
A good title for this outfit might be “New Year’s Sparkle”!
Love the silver shoes done with the elastic cord for straps and the black sole edging makes them even dressier. I make doll shoes using cloth, cardboard and craft foam soles, and finish them with some type of narrow braid or trim. This summer I made a pair of brown boots to go with an “Anne of Green Gables” outfit I made for one of my Ruby Red dolls, and used brown fabric with ironed-on interfacing for stability and no fraying, and thin waxed cording for the laces. They turned out okay but I’ll need to tweak the boot pattern even more to fit better since it is a pattern for the 16 inch dolls. Shoes are always a challenge! Especially when there are so few shoe or boot patterns available for the RR dolls.
Your doll’s thigh-high stockings have a nice design in the fabric….especially to go with a dressy outfit. I recently purchased a rolled-up remnant of thin, white stretch knit from Hobby Lobby….perfect for underwear and stockings or anklets….always good to have on hand when you need it! I’ll need to take a look at the little girls tights in the stores!
Sweet sparkly shoes. I love the rondelle treatment on the side. Lavender will be very stylish for her New Year’s Eve fête.
Jeanne, the outfit is getting better all the time, The shoes and thigh hi’s , so great and the camisole …love it all and know it will be a real winner!
I put two Meadow outfits I made on fb, but I think they will have to go on ebay. I love making pinafores or aprons with the lovely Swiss embroidered pieces, but they are expensive and I sew them by hand. I just can’t seem to get what they are worth on fb anymore. I even offered anyone to send me an offer, but no go. Ebay tomorrow.
