Recipe for Four Layer Delight dessert…

HI everyone,
Well, it’s 11:29p.m. and I am just now getting to my post for tomorrow.
Hanna emailed me this morning and asked if I could share the recipe for the Four Layer Delight I showed you yesterday… I told her I would… so here it is.

It was a big hit at the Staff Christmas party and several asked for the recipe. One of the guys even wants it for his birthday in January.
It looks like a long complicated recipe, but it’s not hard at all… just take it layer by layer and it’s a snap.

This recipe has been around for probably 50 years at least. I’ve been making it for about 40 years.. You can find it on Pinterest in all kinds of vaiations.

It doesn’t have to be Chocolate… it can be made with ANY kind of instant pudding… butterscotch, pistachio (that’s very yummy), lemon, banana, anything you like!

I made two 9 x 13 pans of it and this is what we have left… (my hubby really had too much!)
Here is a messy view of what the leftover portion looked like.

Four Layer Chocolate Delight

ALL Ingredients
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 sticks butter, melted (use real butter for the flakiest crust)
1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped
8 oz cream cheese (softened)
1 cup powdered sugar
2 small containers Cool Whip (thawed out)
2 small boxes (3 oz each) instant chocolate pudding mix (or your favorite)
3 cups milk

Directions
Layer 1
1-1/2 cups flour
1-1/2 stick butter (melted)
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
Mix together and press into a buttered 9×13-inch pan.
Bake 325 degrees for 15 minutes until light brown and let cool.

Layer 2
8 oz cream cheese (softened)
1 cup powdered sugar
1 small container of Cool Whip (thawed out)
Using a mixer, combine and spread on top of cooled crust.
Chill this layer while you make the chocolate pudding.

Layer 3
2 small boxes instant chocolate pudding
3 cups milk
Mix together and chill. When it’s thick carefully spread on the 2nd layer.
(I usually put the pudding in globs and spread it out evenly with the back of a spoon.)

Layer 4
Top with second tub of Cool Whip. Garnish with chopped pecans and slivers shaved from a chocolate bar.
Chill before serving.

YUMMY!

Well, there was NO sewing involved in today’s post, but maybe there will be tomorrow!
I need some suggestions for shoes… I do have silver leather, but boots, mary janes, slip-on’s, etc… ideas?

Thanks everyone,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Sounds delicious and decadent, Jeanne! Thanks for sharing the recipe. Might be good to take to a potluck sometime!

Yum, Jeanne, that sounds delicious! It’s easy enough that even I could attempt that, and just might do it for our Christmas dinner! Thank you for the recipe!

As far as shoes go, I am thinking some pretty slip-on ones, decorated with sparkles! Maybe a few jewels hot glue gunned on would be the easiest to do, and for a fancy outfit like this one, ballet flats would be best. I know it is “the thing” now for a fancy dress to be worn with boots, but I am not a “boot” person for fancy outfits! The hobo look is not my thing, although I know I am not everyone! If you do decide to go with ballet flats, make sure they fit over the thigh highs. Sometimes that is almost impossible to get shoes on over tights or socks.

  3. do you have any recommendations as substitutions for “cool whip”?
This recipe looks hideously delicious, I am sure a mere 6 happy people could clean this dish in a spiff.
I hope everyone enjoys a very happy productive day.
The big difference here is sunshine and very blue sky, a result of rain all day and then heavy winds. I have errands to conquer first. Then home and Christmas cards.
Linda, I agree with your points of shoes. Excellent ideas

Rosemary, I believe that you can use regular whipping cream in place of the Cool Whip. Although, I’m too lazy to make it. 🙂

Dear Jeanne, I think the outfit is very festive. I would suggest some kind of strappy shoes. I see her attending some kind of afternoon party. Maybe she is taking a special gift to the hostess.

I cannot believe we are already halfway through December!

I’ve also been making a similar dessert for years. My recipe is direct from the pudding people. However, mine has a graham cracker crust, not the nuts. For the topping, I use chocolate sprinkles rather than the shaved chocolate for ease in making. It kind of has a cheesecake taste. Everyone around here loves it too, but we always had it for Easter, reserving Christmas for my cheesecake with raspberry sauce. Oh, the dessert here has always been called striped delight. 🙂
I would probably go with the ballet flats for the skirt/sweater outfit. Or even Mary Janes. So, if Lavender, decides to makes a quick run outside to toss confetti around at midnight, she will not lose a shoe in the process. 🙂
Eye appointment went well and our plumber arrived on time to remove the back line clog. Yay. Then, we had rain all night. Much warmer this morning.

I like the idea of the ballet flats. I like Mary Jane’s too but I just see this outfit with ballet flats.

Dolly fever hit me again yesterday. I ordered another L’il Dreamer, Jane. She is wearing a Regency-type dress and is very pretty. Not sure when she will arrive but my Mini Maru will not be here until May. Still waiting on RR Mini Bella so I hope there is some space between that and my two recent purchases. Keep thinking I’m finished with the dolly buying and then someone comes out with something I can’t resist or have wanted for awhile.

Thanks for all the prayers for my daughter’s mother-in-law. I had a long talk with Andrea the other day – in the middle of Walmart. She wasn’t available the rest of the day for a callback and we really needed to talk. Evidently her mother-in-law’s health has been failing for a couple years now but I just heard about it. Her mother-in-law lives in Kansas City, Missouri, but plans on going to Maine for her final days which could be soon so Andrea will not be able to come for Jason’s wedding.

So, for your L’il Dreamers/Mini RR’s, do you use patterns by I think it is Kathy Ann? Have you found any other pattern makers? My little group would love to have some new outfits, but not all the same pattern. 🙂

Thanks for the recipe, Jeanne. I already printed it out and am thinking of making it for Christmas to take to Sean’s.
