Have you seen Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll, Lavender?

First of all, I think my “Sunday Surprise” post really did surprise everyone… I made a post sharing I listed Rebecca’s Christmas dress and added the link if you wanted to check it out… If you happened to miss it, you can click on the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE.

I also forgot to show you my new iron on label inside Rebecca’s dress… and (of course) it would have to have a tiny little piece of hair on the label… Just overlook it! Good grief!

I also found the Sweet Treat to go with the dress… Anyone like Russell Stover?

About a month ago… right before Rebecca and Karn came for Thanksgiving, I was at the computer and a doll popped up right when I got on. It was one of the limited edition dolls from Ruby Red Fashion Friends… This was a doll sculpt called the Dianna Effner face… I had seen her when she was offered, but she was too much and I didn’t get her. I convinced myself she probably resembled Freida too much. I still kept thinking about her, but not pining for her… just thinking about her every so often.

I think there must be a security “thing” on her pictures because I could not get a picture of her to show you, but here is a link to when she first came out… She was $180.00 and there were only 400 sold worldwide.

Lavender’s pre-order page

Well, those weeks ago when I was on the computer and she popped up, she was nude, and had no wig included…and the price was dramatically lower… so I caved… Yes, I did! I caved and bought her. I’ve had her all this time and you didn’t even know it… she’s been patiently waiting to show the whole world she was at my house, so I finally decided today was the day…

I first had Freida’s original braided wig on her, but thought I’d try Freida’s new wig I trimmed up… the one with the bangs. I liked it much better.

She has light brown eyes, lighter eyebrows and the softest features. I’ve seen ladies on a few doll forums calling her looks demure! She’s my first Dianna Effner face sculpt.

I was hoping to get a Christmas dress made for her before the end of the year, but decided it’s already December 9th and if I finished something I’d have to list it, let it run a few days and then ship it out… I just ran out of time this year… (My hubby just told me I should start in July next year and make a few and keep them stocked up and then when the holidays get here, I’ll be ready to show off the ones I’ve made.) Nice thought… I hope I can do that.

But I looked at the calendar and realized I could make Lavender a “New Year’s Eve outfit!” So I’ll show you what I have done so far…

I found this child’s charcoal gray lame skirt at the Thrift shop and thought it would make something fun. It’s super lightweight and perfect for smaller dolls. I cut it apart and cut out a skirt for Lavender… and got it finished tonight…

I looked online for some ideas for a top to go with the sparkly skirt, but came up empty handed. (I need Rebecca to come back and help me!)
I have a few things I can show you…

This VERY sparkly silver sweater has some fun details that could make a nice sweater/top… using the edges that are already finished off.

I have this lightweight top to cut up that might be cute, but that might be too much black/gray… It’s very sparkly as well…

I could make a red and silver sparkly blouse out of this light weight cotton fabric…

There is this piece of very lightweight gauzy like fabric with silver threads running through it that would make a very pretty blouse.

Oh, by the way, here are Freida and Lavender in the same wig, but different sculpts…

So I’m open for ideas on what to put with this skirt…

Tomorrow, I’m going to share another red ruffled skirt… and how someone made it their own! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What fun! A new dolly!! I didn’t order Lavender in the first place because I don’t like hair that isn’t a natural color of hair. In other words, you will Never see purple or green streaks in MY hair, nor in my dolls’ hair, either! But she looks lovely in that dark wig, the style and color are well suited to her.

I love her new skirt, and for a top, of the four choices shown, I think my preference would be the last one, which is much more subtle, and allows the skirt fabric to “shine”.

Or….how about a velour or panne velvet top in a rich color, like red? Another possibility would be a lace top in a color that looks nice with the skirt, either a pastel or a bright tone.

Looking forward to what else will be in Lavender’s New Year’s Eve outfit!

I saw your comment to my comment to you. I laughed at the idea of parachute fabric. I actually have it in several colors. I bought it to make flotation vests for my dolls for some reason which I don’t remember. I haven’t got around to doing that yet and the pieces are too small for people clothing, but it definitely would have been waterproof. But there is another funny story about the interlock. It was basically two-way stretch and I cut the shorts out the wrong way once never thinking about it. Jaiden couldn’t begin to get the shorts up her legs. I just made her another pair.

Hahaha!! I love it! Thanks, Barbara! (Yeah, we live and learn about 2-way stretch fabrics….)

So pretty, Jeanne, that sweet face is very charming! I do remember seeing Lavender. Whenshe first came out, and although I was never in the market for her, I thought her dress was lovely, but her hair, not so much. I didn’t realize she had colored streaks in her hair, but did notice she had no bangs, and her wig was too high for me, showing too much of her forehead. I don’t like big, wide foreheads on my dolls! But oh, that wig you put her in is just perfect! Now what is Freida going to do?🙂

I love that idea of a New Year’s Eve outfit! The skirt is perfect, and I am thinking that the first material, the silver sweater would be my pick! It is dressy enough for the skirt material, and would be a good accent to Lavender’s hair and coloring. I certainly would keep it in the silver family, for extra sparkle, but you could also do another top for other occasions. I keep thinking of the AG outfit that I bought years ago, that features a silver skirt, and a pale blue sweater with sparkles on it. That is a lovely combination too. I’m sure others will chime in with ideas, so you will be getting plenty of those today!

I looked up that outfit from American Girl, and it is called Frosty Party Outfit, from 2011. It has the silver skirt, pale blue sweater with sequin embroidery, a silver headband, and silver shoes. Do you have silver leather?

  3. Bonjour.

  4. Lavender is so cute.
Like Charlotte, I also do not like the multi colored wigs, those look like unicorn hair or something. Anyway – Lavender!! she is pretty, I love the fancy skirt
Is that a nice thin fabric that folds easily. I could see a skirt just like this but with a two or three very tiny tiered hem.
I like all of the sweater choices. Jeanne, just make one of each 😂
Happy Monday everyone. stay warm and cozy
This is the time of year (beginning part) where we pile on clothes to get around town and when we are inside start getting really too toasty. Just rain here in Northern Virginia but chilly

I once worked for a division of an oil company that had offices in Alaska. Several of the men had been transferred there and then back and I remember their wives discussing going to the grocery store in the winter. They said by the time they took off their outer clothing and put it in the cart there was barely room for the groceries.

Dear Jeanne, I love the idea of a shorter skirt. I also love the idea of a New Years outfit. And I love your husband’s idea of working on Christmas ideas in July. Finally I love seeing your label in the new outfit. So love, love, love, love!

    Lavender is a cutie.

I bought Lavender when she was on preorder and have her displayed, but I’ve never really bonded with her and I think it’s because of the wig and like Linda said, too much forehead. Now I’m thinking I’ll look for a new wig for her, and I’ll be keeping an eye on this outfit you are making for her. 🙂 I like the silver for the top, maybe some accents in red.

How great you have Lavender. I’ve seen her wearing a darker blond wig that also looked great on her. Just a thought when you’re looking for wigs. 🙂 You’re so lucky to have her.

Lavender is a lovely girl. I, too, passed on her because I was thinking I had enough dolls. Fortunately/Unfortunately, that has passed. ; ) I’ve seen Lavender a couple of times now with different wigs and she’s much more appealing. I’m not as jealous as when you found Violette, but it’s close. Ha!

My first choice is the first top. My second is the last top.

Oh Jeanne, you found the holy grail of dolls. How lucky you were able to find her. I too wish I had sprung for her instead of her partner. I wasn’t fond of her original dress much either, but her new skirt is perfect for the New Year or any upcoming holiday. I really like the light grey sweater fabric with the skirt best. She would be able to wear it with the skirt or even jeans for a different look. I’m hoping for long sleeves, but I’m sure whatever you do will look marvelous with the great skirt. The wig is perfect too. What a lucky duck in Illinois. 🙂

  9. I really like your label, Jeanne. It adds a special touch for all who love your outfits.
Lavender has a very pretty face and she look great in Frieda’s wig. Such pretty eyes.,
My choice of top would be the beautiful grey sweater. It’s very elegant looking. Second choice would be the white with silver threads. Also dressy.
I think a New Year’s outfit is a great idea if you could add that to yearly occasions – especially if you have a few Christmas ones stashed throughout the year or summer.
The whole outfit on Rebecca is beautiful, Jeanne!

  10. Jeanne,
I missed out on Lavender, she is beautiful. You are very lucky to find her… and the new wig is so much better on her…
I think starting Christmas in July is a good idea too. Maybe just an outfit here and there.
I love the skirt with the first sweater, the light grey. So pretty. But anything you make will look fabulous.
The outfit on your Rebecca is very nice!!!

A lovely doll and a New Year’s outfit, great combination, Jeanne! Sometimes I think I should have gotten into the RRFF dolls, but just couldn’t see adding another group of dolls. I will just stick to Meadow and Effner that I have. I still have a lot of Kish dolls and outfits to sell, and lots of fabric. Hope I can get some of it done.

I didn’t consider Lavendar because of the wig. I just couldn’t seem to relate to her on an everyday level. She seemed more like a “collector” doll and my girls are everyday people. But I do think she has a beautiful face and the wig looks great on her.

My choice is the silver sweater fabric for a top for the skirt. I love the bottom and it would look great with the wonderful skirt.

I recently made a couple of the dresses from Tea Time Fabric panels. The fabric design is printed on the outfit pieces. It was definitely a different sewing experience. I hope to be taking some pictures next week and will include these since they are Christmas dresses. It was like sewing on lightweight canvas. But the dresses turned out cute. They are for my two Wellies.

  13. Yes, I saw Lavender when she first came out. She and Camellia were last year’s Christmas dolls. I passed on them because I don’t care for that mold compared to others. It probably puts me in the minority. It does make it easy to pass many of them by quickly though. She has the DE Shannon mold, but RR calls it the Diana since the Diana doll had it first. Actually, your Freida and Sara are DE #3 molds that RR calls the Sara , your Violette is a DE #1 mold that RR calls the Daisy, and your Rose is a DE #2 mold that RR calls the Luca. I can’t recall who else you have. The FB fan club has a mold chart detailing on the dolls by mold.
I don’t think she looks like Freida because Freida is smiling!
I like the light gray sweater fabric best. I love light gray as a color.

  14. Susette from Southern California

I’m voting for the silver first choice for the top, second choice white. Such a wonderful imagination you have to think of uses for items you find in thrift shops, Jeanne! Thrifted fabric is definitely more reasonable than buying yard goods.

I’ve copied Laura’s description of the RRFF face molds in case I ever have occasion to need it. Thanks. I found Freida in Canada after she was sold out elsewhere because I found a fabulous Spanish dancer dress that needed her face, hair style and personality. I’ve finally changed her into a winter outfit. No streaks of colors in my dolls’ hair.

  15. Elizabeth from Texas

The Lavender doll has such a sweet face and her wig style is perfect for her! I am a big fan of the Ruby red dolls…their expressions, size, flexible joints (Wish the wrists and ankles were jointed as well!) and her realistic body proportions.
I really liked the light gray or the red for the sweater top to go with the sparkly skirt fabric. The light gray is chic and sophisticated with the skirt, but the red is bright and fun for a young lady doll! The light gray might look attractive with a red and black, or a red, gray and black small print fabric used for a large hair bow and maybe a purse or small shoulder purse! I could see a loosely woven soft red “pashmina” scarf draped around her neck and the ends hanging down, Maybe a soft red hat with the light gray sweater top. Just thinking out loud here! I don’t know how to knit or crochet but sometimes wish I did!
