What? A Boysenberry Candy Bar for Mae?????

Reminder: Tonight the outfit modeled by Ruby Red Fashion Friends, doll, Sara, will end. It’s called “Fall’s Final Fling” and just as it says, that will be my last Fall outfit for them. It’s time to turn to a few other dolls and see what I can come up before the first of December… when Christmas Sewing starts.

If you’d like to see the auction, you can click the picture at the right side bar, or you can click HERE.

Now back to Mae… I took the braids out of her platinum blonde wig and there were crimp marks and LOTS of electricity… It was a flyaway mess, so I turned to this wig I had bought, re-cut, thinned the bangs and shaped it for Mae. I’m hoping the crimp marks from her other will will come out…

I pulled this new wig into some pig tails and added a (what else?) Boysenberry rayon ribbon. I actually had that in my stash! I think she looks pretty cute in it.

The next thing I worked on were her THIGH HIGHS! I looked through all my stretchy fabrics for something to go with this Boysenberry fabric. There was gray, black, silver, and white. I wrapped some of them around Mae’s legs checking them out and then made an educated guess and went with the black. The softest, stretchiest, sparkliest, black one in my stash. It is super thin and was the one I made these black doll gloves out it.

It bends every which way and gives you a perfect fit. You can see her legs through them but they kind of have the look of fishnet hose just a bit.

You can actually see the sparkle in them and they feel fantastic to the touch! They fit very well into her shoes too!

I was standing in line at Aldi this morning, waiting to put my few items on the conveyor belt, when straight in front of me was a BOYSENBERRY Candy Bar… Well, it’s not exactly a “Boysenberry” chocolate bar, but it DOES have a BOYSENBERRY colored wrapper and I knew I had to get it! It is PERFECTION!

Mae wants to tell you something…

“See, this candy bar here? It can be YOURS if you are the winner of my new outfit! Momma said she’d wrap it in plastic, so it won’t melt on my new outfit! I hope you like Candy bars in Boysenberry wrappers!”

…and one more…

Tomorrow I hope to have the big ticket item for this set! You won’t want to miss it! :o)

I will see you then!
Blessings, Jeanne

Ooh, Mae’s outfit is really coming together nicely! I love her thigh-highs, as well as her bows and of course her blouse and shoes. So pretty!

My toe is feeling considerably better–thanks everyone for your concern. I did reply to some of your comments yesterday, if you wish to go back and read them.

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
I’m so sorry for your hurt toe! They can wreck your whole day… I know from experience…
I’m glad you like Mae’s outfit… you should give yourself a big pat on the back for letting us know that color. I’ve had more fun using that word lately… and see Boysenberry all over the place…
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, this newer wig is just plain adorable on Mae! The braids gave her more of a “tomboyish” vibe, but this new one makes look like a sweet little girl,…..which she is!

The thigh highs are just wonderful and I’m sure Mae is enraptured with the sparkles in them! At first, as I was scrolling down, I saw the pictures of the gloves, and thought y they were for Mae, and could not understand why she would be wearing gloves THAT fancy! So it was just the fabric! Whew!

The candy bar will be a hit, I’m sure, but that outfit is going to steal the show! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

    1. Hi Linda,
I like this wig too. I might have to look for a few more “fixable” wigs to use in the future… I wonder how she’d look in a red or auburn wig?
The thigh highs are really fun to feel… I don’t know what I’m going to do when I run out of this fabric. It really is fabulous!
It’s supposed to be rainy tomorrow, so I’m guessing no outside pictures, but maybe it will clear up in time for a few…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. super cute. I love the hosiery and the gloves. Wow, precious She looks ready to go to a holiday party
    Enjoy the day everyone.

    1. Hi Rosemary,
Thanks for your compliments… but just for clarification, the gloves were only to show the fabric I had used for the gloves… Mae doesn’t get any gloves, at least not with this set…. just wanted to be sure and let you know…
I’m trying to think of a story line for her in this new dress… a holiday party… hmmmm….
      Thanks so much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Theresa, Thank you for wanting my Thanksgiving outfit for Mae. I have reduced the price quite a bit, so maybe you would like to look again? There are so many people sewing for the Meadow dolls now it is hard to compete.

    1. HI Sissy,
I know what you mean about the competition… you only have to look on the My Meadow forum and you can see that everyone seems to be sewing for Mae. Now that all the new “Mae” dolls are arriving, business will pick up!

  5. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I guess seeing boysenberry items is like learning a new word and then hearing it everywhere. Mae truly looks adorable in that color. I am looking forward to seeing the entire outfit.

    1. HI Dorothy,
I guess you are right… when you are pregnant, you see all the pregnant ladies, when you get a new car, you see all the ones just like the model you bought, when you try a new hairdo, you see all the ones just like yours… so I guess it’s only certain, when I chose Boysenberry, I see it everywhere! :o)
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Joy in northern CA

In my sleepy state, when I read what Jeanne might come up with before the first of November, I thought I’d lost some time. I had to look twice to see that my computer says it is already way past November first and actually November 12th. Better get on those Christmas outfits. Ha ha And we just started shopping for the ingredients that will be going into a couple of Thanksgiving dishes. Other person brought home whole chilis in a can yesterday that definitely won’t work for me. We need mild, chopped, and in little cans. No chili chopping around here for me. 🙂
Mae looks great in that wig, but I really liked the little blond braids too. Can’t wait to see the bottom half of her outfit. The thigh highs are very cute with the blouse. Maybe she needs a skirt from the same fabric? I know the corduroy goes with it too though, but all one color would be nice as well. 🙂
Sun’s out. We’ll see what the day brings.

    1. HI Joy,
I corrected my November mistake as soon as I read your comment… OOPS!
I’d have to have the mild chilies too… what are you making?
I’m hoping the crimped areas come out… if not, I’ll wash it and hopefully that will take them out. I was also looking at another platinum blonde wig that looks to be thicker… that might help… it’s really a thin wig… but I like it too!

You’ll see tomorrow what I did for the main piece… I think it’s cute… hope you will too!
      Thanks Joy,
      blessings, Jeanne

  7. Susette from Southern California

There’s a very complete history of the Boysenberry on Wikipedia. It’s the berry that started the Knott’s Berry Farm in Southern California that’s about three miles from where I live, right next to Disneyland. Sadly Mr. Boysen, after whom the berry is named, didn’t profit from its popularity. It’s an interesting read. Just enter Boysenberry and choose the Wikipedia entry.

This outfit is darling already and I’m sure it’s just going to get cuter tomorrow. Make something with that fabric combination for an RRFF or American Girl doll?

    1. HI Susette,
I’m going to read that Boysenberry article when I get in bed tonight…then I’ll really have a handle on this “boysenberry” color! Thanks!

I hope everyone likes the final piece… (well, I think it will be the final piece… )
I have lots of the corduroy so I could easily make something again for another doll…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

I must confess I had to laugh when I saw the pictures this morning. Some of us were saying that the blouse should be the focal point of the outfit but not to this extent. I know the outfit isn’t finished but this was too good to pass up. At the moment the blouse is definitely the focal point.

I love Mae’s hair. What you do with wigs is amazing. I have a few here I wish you could work on. I’m scared I’ll do more harm than good if I try. Her thigh highs are wonderful. I never seem to find the lovely things you do in stretchy fabrics. I am excited to see what you do to complete the outfit. It’s wonderful so far.

And a candy bar in a boysenberry-colored wrapper! Definitely too good to pass up.

    1. Hi Barbara,
I’m glad everyone likes the blouse… and yes, I hope everyone likes the piece I intend to show tomorrow… I love it…
I have a habit of looking for glittery, stretchy things in my thrift stores… I know the check out clerks must think to themselves…”surely she’s not going to wear that, is she?” Sometimes I tell them I plan to cut them up for doll outfits… it’s like I feel the need to explain why I’m buying a short gold sparkly short romper or a silvery halter top…
Thanks for your kind compliments Barbara…
      Blessings, Jeanne
