Hi everyone,
Maybe a few more than Joy and Dorothy, but some of you suggested a hair bow for Sara that would clip to her hair. Joy got a little more specific and said one like you see on some of the Connie Lowe dolls. The ones that seem to be a bit oversized and a bit Victorian.
Well, I can’t say I nailed it, but this is what happened tonight. First of all, there was the hunt for the right color of ribbon and one that could be tied in a bow. I picked out 3 ribbons I thought might work. Now mind you, they aren’t tied in “nice” bows like they would be if I were selling them with the outfit…I was just looking at the colors, so just look and laugh at these…
Dark brown and a bit stiff…
A bit on the coral side, but wired and could be shaped…
Another wired ribbon but a bit of a different color brown…
Okay, so none of those looked right in person… the dark brown one was definitely too stiff and there would be no way to make it have dangling tails… it would be stiff and look like a modern bow for a little girl sold at Walmart.
The Coral ribbon needed to have a little bit more orange in it.. the color looked like the inside of a pink grapefruit…
The other wired brown ribbon was too much of a different color of brown than the brown in her jumper.
So… I kept looking and found another length of the ribbon I showed you tied in her hair yesterday. So this is what it looked like after I made a double bow with a snap clip on the back and dangling tails.
I think it looks the best and doesn’t add any more colors to this outfit. I still have that long length I plan to send along with the jumper set as well. It can be used if someone wants to cut it and use it for braids, or just wrap it around their dolls head and tie a bow. The one I pretied is easy to put in.
Now here are a few pictures of Sara showing her purse in the crossbody style. It’s easy to put on… just raise one of her arms and drop it over the top of her, then put down her arm and position the purse how you want it…
So, I’m going to call it quits on this set… here is a picture of what will be included… the jumper, long sleeve tee, short sleeve tee, tam, thigh highs, leather boots, leather purse, pretied hairbow and length of ribbon to use as you wish. That’s 9 pieces.
I got out another doll last night and was trying on jeans and the short sleeve top and “thought” for about 5 seconds, “maybe I could make a boy doll outfit… I already have the top, the jeans, but then I looked at the short sleeve top again and it didn’t look like a boy’s tee shirt… it was too fitted and feminine looking… so I put that other doll back and decided to call it quits… I’m ready to sew for someone else now…
Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne
I think you have nailed it with the hair bow, Jeanne. I did have to chuckle at your trial bows, though–some looked quite unruly!!
Sarah looks so stylish with her crossbody bag and all! Just a lot going for this outfit. And so nice that you are including both t-shirts; whoever gets it will have fun putting the short-sleeved one with jeans and so on, too. You’re right–a boy’s t-shirt would need to be a little more boxy, or relaxed-fitting. (Nolan’s [Russell] ears perked up and he is wondering if Auntie Jeanne is going to make boy clothes next!)
I am seriously thinking about ordering Angela, one of the new fan club RRFF dolls. I really love the face on Sienna, but then I realized, it’s the same face as Diana, who I already have. When I realized the skin tones of Angela and Sienna are the same, that tipped the balance for me–it looked in some of the pictures like Angela might be a lot paler, and I didn’t want that. But Angela has a different face (Sage) that I don’t have, so….
No bow necessary. She’s going to school or shopping, not to a party, and the bow will come undone and end up stepped on while on the playground. Send it along as an extra. A bow should be very small and tailored in pictures with this very casual outfit if included.
Jeanne, I love the bow and all the rest as well. Now, please make one for Mae next? She has those cute shoes as a starter!
I think the third bow was the prettiest bc it was shiny and stiff.
I have a photo of my adorable mom when she was about 8 with a big white bow in her blond hair. She had the most precious pout. I look at that picture often.
Let’s go with this marvelous outfit. I think it is adorable.
Thursday today and it is going to be a good day. Hubbs and I must do some raking just to clear the leaves so the mowers can mow the rest of the yard, we have not had much rain… so, hmmm
I hope everyone has a very happy day today.
What a cute outfit with the bow you chose, Jeanne! Just the thing for picture day at school, but after the picture is taken, off comes the bow! Like Susette said, not practical for school and playground! But what a cute outfit altogether! The dark bow probably would not show up as well with a dark haired doll, so this one is really the best! My dolls usually always have bows or headbands on their heads, because I just plain like them looking dressed up!
My parents grew up across the street from each other, and when my mother’s family moved in, my father told my grandmother that the “Jello girl” moved across the street! Back in the 20’s, the little girl on the jello box had a huge bow, that I guess he thought was my mother!
Ack, just lost my comment. Couldn’t go back to retrieve it.
Love the bow. I knew Jeanne could make a beautiful one. Maybe she can do a tutorial at some point. 🙂 Sara will look so sweet wearing that bow and her new outfit for Thanksgiving with her family and friends. She will look like a 30’s little girl I think.
Today is Bondo day. I have everything ready to fill that deck depression. Now, after reading several Bondo videos online, and finding the directions there as well, nothing on the can at all, I think I’m ready with my tools. I’ve never mixed two part filler before, so wish me luck as I only have about three minutes before it starts to harden. 🙂
Don’t envy you your Bondo job at all. David is fixing a pick-up for a neighbor and had just mixed some Bondo the other day when just as he walked out the door of his shop it began to rain so he couldn’t use what he just mixed within the time limit. Bummer!
I like the bow, but if Sara is anything like my granddaughter it won’t be on for long. I used to buy her hair ornaments but gave up when I found one on the floor of the back seat of my car not to mention never seeing her wear any of them. But I do like the bow with the outfit and would definitely go with it and leave it up to the new mother when and where her dolly daughter gets to wear it.
Just got news the other day that Sean and Dionne won’t be in town for Thanksgiving this year. They are going to Dionne’s family in Indiana. Her dad was supposed to come here but just got a new job so he can’t leave. For years they have been hosting and I just got to enjoy. Jason and Stephanie will go to her parents but I can’t even think about going there for dinner even though I know we would be welcome to do that. They smoke and my allergy to smoke has gotten worse over the years. I would be content to go to a restaurant. Many have wonderful Thanksgiving Day dinners but hubby will not entertain the thought so we will be doing something simple at home. Very simple.
Love the bow! I always had my daughter wear a hairbow or two regardless of the outfit. Casual outfits called for grosgrain, dressy for satin or velvet. None ever came out or were lost. Of course, bows (or hats) on dolls are an absolute necessity.
