A Menagerie on this Monday…

Happy Monday to everyone!
Thank you to everyone who sent pictures last week to share while I was visiting with Rebecca and Karn. Thanks also to how you all chatted with each other. We had a reallly nice time but they left Sunday morning. Their visits are never long enough to suit me.

She likes going to thrift shops to find things to resell so that’s mostly what we did. She found quite a few things and was pretty happy. She also brought a bag of alterations for me. This time there were knly a few things that were tricky alterations… most of them were needing buttons sewn on and she didn’t have the right color thread.

We had Christmas between the 4 of us and then again between them and Kristoffer when he came over. My hubby and I received some gift cards from them but let me show you what was my favorite.

I had bought a package of business card blanks a long time ago at a thrift shop and always wanted to print some out but I’m not very experienced or confident enough to figure it out, so I never used them.

Enter Rebecca! She is VERY good at this kind of thing so when I showed her yhe packet she said she’d give it a shot. She made business cards for me that turned out beautifully! The first try cut off the bottom of the writing on the card, but Rebecca said they could be partially saved… so we made a few hang tags out of them.

The second try was perfect. I was giddy looking at them!!

Then she said, “Let’s try something else…” so she created a different layout.

I loved these! They looked so dainty and girlie!!

I was so happy by now, I pulled out another packet I had gotten at the thrift shop… this packet was solid sheets of a linen-like fabric you could print on and then iron onto whatever you wanted. We decided to make tiny labels to iron on the inside of my doll dresses.

This is everything she designed and made for me…

Aren’t they wonderful??? I think so too!

Now let me show you a few more things I received this week…

The first one is this pretty brunette wig I got for Mae…I think the darker color really looks pretty on her.

Isn’t the color pretty on her?

Here are a few other things I found at a thrift shop we were at… there were a couple of these kits for making purses. I got 2 of them just for the gold frame to use for American Girl doll purses.

Then at the same place I rescued this Wellie Wishers American Girl doll. Her name is Ashlyn.

Ashlyn was naked except for her boots…

Well, that will have to be it for now… I have another wonderful thing happening this week too. My sister and their hubby’s and my brother are coming! We have a Memorial service for my cousin to attend. I can’t wait for us all to be together!!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

    Dear Jeanne,

Your business cards, hang tags, and labels are lovely. Rebecca did an excellent job!

Mae looks really nice in her wig. It is beautiful.

The purse gold frames are pretty.

Ashlyn is gorgeous and in great condition! She was a great find <3

My mother isn't doing so well. Her pulse has been erratic. In Oct. she went to Urgent Care with a pulse of 35, and ahe has had a lot of appointments since then. She had to wear a ZIO monitor for two weeks, and there were 18 episodes of something not right. She is 69 now. Please pray for her!

    Thank you very much!
    Love,

I’m praying for you mother, Karen, and also for her doctors, that they will be able to figure out what is wrong and make her well again,

Karen, I’m so sorry to hear that your mother is having health problems. You can be assured of my prayers for her!❤️

    3. Dear Karen. Best wishes for a good outcome for your mom. The tests are good to do and the monitoring is the best to find the source. I hope she improves.
All of you are in my prayers
      Love, Rosemary

Karen, I will definitely be praying for your mom and your family and also that the doctors can diagnose the problem and find a solution. There are so many possibilities these days to alleviate problems like this and I’m sure they’ll do their best for her.

Very sorry to hear about your mother. Almost sounds like she needs her meds adjusted. Has she started any new ones lately? Hope that ZIO monitor is helpful too.
Thinking of you and your mom.

That’s good as I too had a lot of problems when my med was switched in the past. They had me on too high a dose. Hope they can get your mom’s adjusted correctly.

Dear Karen, I will add your mother to my prayer list. I will also pray for strength for you.

Oh, Karen, I will certainly pray for your Mom. I really miss mine, she left me in 1997. God bless your mom.

Thank you, Sissy!! I am so sorry for the loss of yours!!! May she rest in peace! I will pray for you, too. <3

    8. Dear Karen,
I’m so sorry your mom isn’t feeling well either… you must be very concerned so I’m praying for peace for you as the Lord does what He does best and touches those who need His loving care….your mom!
Be still and know that He is God!
      Love you, Jeanne

Thank you so much, Jeanne! <3 I told my mother who is praying for her, and this is what she wrote back, "I feel so loved! I can definitely feel the prayers and love. Thank you to each and everyone for praying for me. My thoughts are it's also the blood pressure medicine I was on which I don't even think I should've been on. Hopefully the tests tell.❤️🤗🙏"

Sounds like you had a wonderful time with Rebecca & Karn, Jeanne. I love the little labels you can sew inside your doll clothes – I always like to see them in the doll clothes I buy, so that I always know who made them.

The brown wig is super cute on Mae – now you need to give her brown eyes. I’m partial to brown eyed brunettes. 🙂

I never find much in the way of dolls at our local thrift shop (we only have one…), but I did find a Disney Princess Moana awhile back that I rescued.

Have a great week with more family!

Glad your early Christmas, went well and that thrift shopping was also in order. Those cards are interesting. Years ago, I ordered some woven embroidered fabric iron on labels like you find in purchased clothing, with my name, logo, etc. They came in scads of colors and had room for a logo as well. They came in a roll and you cut them off. I’m sure they still have them available in a Google search. They were very professional looking, just like what comes inside nice outfits which I usually cut off as they are itchy. 🙂 Maybe after your stock runs out, you can order some. They were really cheap and around 10.00 for a ton as I remember.
That is a cute look for Mae in the new wig, but I am very partial to the sweet blond one with tails or braids.
Here, we were able to clean the street out in front and the driveway of the huge leaf mess from the rains we endured last week. I think the total from that storm was over 13 inches. The lawn is still covered, but our can is full until Wednesday. On top of that, it is still a soggy bog so guess leaves will have to stay on the lawn until it dries out more. Unfortunately, it rained again last night. Ugh

Jeanne, I’m glad your family got to have your early Thanksgiving/Christmas together, even if it was early. Isn’t it nice to have a daughter who can “do” things to help you out, especially when it comes to computers and the like? I have one too! Every time I see Jennifer, I have some kind of problem for her to solve!

Your labels are just wonderful! I especially love the labels with the flowered hearts! So pretty!

The new wig for Mae gives her a whole new look! I love dolls with dark hair wearing bright colors and crisp navy and white spring clothes!

The purse parts, are really pretty and will work well with Civil War outfits!

Ash,yen is such a cute little doll, and lucky her to get to live at your house!

What wonderful labels, etc., Rebecca has created for you. I love them all but the second set of business cards she did were my favorite. I used to do business cards for David’s business but now Sean and Dionne have done the creating for his A/C business and the homebuilding business. They do a great job.

Some great finds at the resale shop(s). The purse parts are a great asset to your purse-making endeavors. Looking forward to seeing them on purses in the future. I have two Wellies, Camille and Kendall. Jaiden has Willa and Ashlyn. I’m waiting to see if she decides to give hers away since she will be 13 next month and has “outgrown” dolls, not that she played with them much before. But I will take them off her hands for a few years and “will” them back to her when she comes to her senses.

I like Mae’s wig but it’s hard for me to picture her as anything other than a blonde. Working on it.

Right now I am in the midst of a project that needed to be done but I wasn’t sure how exactly to go about it before. My doll’s clothes are in separate boxes that stack on top of each other. It worked well in the beginning, but I have so many dolls now that every time I buy something for one of them I have to find her box and unstack until I get to it, and it’s usually the one nearest the bottom. Because it’s a hassle I usually leave things on my worktable until it becomes so cluttered I absolutely have to put them away. In addition I can no longer find the boxes I started out with and have ended up using things that don’t “sit” on top of each other well. This week, amid much frustration, I thought about what I did for my BAB Bunny. I bought those drawers from Walmart that come three to a unit and it was like having a dresser for her. She has three sets that stack. I already had six of the units in my sewing/doll room (two sets) so I went to Walmart and bought two more just to make sure it would work for so many dolls. I can stack them up to three units high so that gives me 18 drawers in two stacks and the area looks way less cluttered. I’m having to do some consolidating but some of my dolls are small and using ziplock bags for some I can get several different doll’s clothes in one drawer. I am half done and know it will work well. I’m going after lunch to get two more sets and possibly another one to fix another storage problem I have. Having the drawers will make it easier to access specific clothes by simply finding and opening a drawer. My dream would be to have a wall of doll closet with different levels for different sized clothes and with drawers beneath. But that would definitely be classified as a pipe dream so this is the best I can do for now (forever).

    1. Joy in northern CA

I really like that drawer idea because here, I have the same problem. I have storage boxes from Costco that I stack for fabric and some doll outfits. But, having to unstack to find anything is such a pain. I’m wondering if the drawers can be pulled out all the way so they could be taken to a table or some flat place to peruse? That would work for me. As long as I was able to return them and not leave them somewhere to add to the clutter.
      Thanks for the idea.

  6. Jeanne, what a fun happy week you had with family.
I am so happy everything went so great and a good time by all.
Your gifts are superb!! I love the labels!
I love the Wellie Wisher doll, lucky find
The tiny purses are so adorable.
    Have a lovely week everyone

  7. Oh Jeanne, what nice business cards Rebecca enhanced for you. I’m sure you’ll be using those for all sorts of things. What a talented daughter Rebecca is.
You sure found some nice treasures. You find the neatness thrift stores. Of the ones I’ve been to, seldom do they have dolls or doll items. I guess it would help to go more often.
For some reason I prefer Mae in a blond wig – the dark wig looks too grown up or bold. I can’t find the right word. Either way, between Mae and your great find of the Willie Wisher Ashland.
Glad you had a nice time with the kids. How exciting your siblings are coming!
    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I am so happy that you had a wonderful time with the young people. I knew that you would! I love the items that your daughter created for you. They are so pretty.

And now you will have some sister time. Yeaaa!

  9. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Wishes for Happy Thanksgiving for you all. I have worn myself out getting ready for company, and will be busy with them this week. They arrive tonight for dinner and will leave after Thanksgiving dinner to go to my DIL’s mom’s in FL.
I will peep in here but will be cooking and resting in between. My back is not happy.
    God bless you all.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Sissy, hope you get some help with all of the cooking etc. It’s such a huge job. Take care.

  10. The cards are beautiful! And I’m so excited about Ashlynn, because I have an Ashlyn, only mine is named Linda. If you make something for her, I’m going to bid on it. I can never get any of your clothes, because I don’t have the same dolls you have. I can’t wait!

  11. Charlotte Trayer

I do not see Tuesday’s blog up yet; hope it was just accidentally not posted, rather than it being genuinely missing because of some emergency or other!

So I will comment (late) on today’s blog (which of course, since I’m still awake, it’s still Monday! 😁).

Your business cards, labels, etc. are just wonderful, Jeanne. I can see why it’s your favorite present!

Mae’s new wig is cute, but I’m like some of the others–I see her more as a blonde, or at least a lighter brown. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t have any real clothes on now–in the right colored outfit, this wig could be totally great.

The little purse frames will be great for purses for the AG dolls, and you can always redonate the Aida cloth from the kits for someone to use for some other purpose.

Little Ashlyn is very cute, and she just might need a pink raincoat to go with those boots! Either that, or a pink riding outfit!

Karen, your mom (and you) will be in my prayers. I remember the time Ron took his blood pressure, and said, Hm, that’s odd….and his pulse was only 41! I took him to the ER and he ended up in the hospital over Christmas, and had a pacemaker installed on 12/26 that year. It was How We Spent Our Christmas. But he did very well with it, and lived quite a few years afterwards, too. Of course, if it’s just her BP meds that need to be adjusted, that would be the best thing, as it’s an easier “fix”!

Barbara, I had to chuckle when you talked about taking Jaiden’s dolls off her hands if she thinks she’s too old, and willing them back to her “when she comes to her senses”!! I like your idea for doll clothes storage, too. I have some of those drawers for my paper crafting supplies. Looks like I’ll need “a few” more!!

Sissy, I hope you don’t wear yourself out with your company there. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it, and put your feet up if you have to!! Hope you have a wonderful time with your family.

I’ve been fighting an infection in my big toe–I’ve seen the doctor twice now, and am on antibiotics. It is getting ready. On Wed. she told me to stay off my feet. Ha!! On Thurs. I went grocery shopping and started my Copper Pennies (carrot salad), and Friday went up to the Normanna Hall’s Christmas bazaar so I could get my homemade pickled herring (I offered one tub to my brother but he said he’s “good” so they’re both MINE!!), before coming home and getting the ingredients ready for a large tossed salad, and finished making the Copper Pennies. Saturday was our church’s Thanksgiving dinner at noon, and afterwards Elizabeth (another lady at our church) and I took our turn for cleaning the church. Others cleared the tables, etc., I just vacuumed and she did the bathrooms.

    1. Karen from Kentucky

Thank you so much, Charlotte! I shared what you said with my mother. It is nice to know she could live a while yet. <3. I hope and pray that your big toe will be healed soon! That must be very painful.
